Good morning :-)
Hi, Une - slow chat day. everyone sleeping in?
Could be :-)
I'm already at fW, so signing off. bye
Kudos!
Just curious . . . do most of you grab words as you see them or take one letter at a time?
as I see them
ty
I do them as I see them. I am not organized enough to go letter by letter or row by row.
I've tried both ways and it seems like grab 'em as you see 'em works better
I do both, go through as I see them. Especially as I often dip in and out while working. Then after that first flush I start going through letter by letter.
Grab them as I see them. Love being random!

Thank God it wasn't Gangnam style
Ouch! Nasty. Wish you better.
I just thank god it wasn't one of those australian spiders.
🤣🤣 I worry more about snakes.
Hi all.
Australian fauna is terrifying
Any clues for 8s or the 9? Ty
good morning mkg.
Yes Harry. Though truthfully in the 12 years I’ve lived here, I haven’t seen anything venomous in the wild.
heh - I figured it's not quite as bad as the nature shows make it.
though you could get cuddled to death by a koala?
They’re out there but you don’t go walking in long grass. I love cuddling koalas.
Though there aren’t many places that let you do that but the sanctuary near us allows it.
:)
Goodnight from Downunder. I’ll finish this tomorrow. Enjoy your days everyone.
bye liz
Hi Harry and Liz.
hi scrab
Sleep well, Liz.
Thanks Scrabbler.
Any clues for 8s?
I have none.
en8. compound and plural.
Any further hints harry?? Ty
sorry - have to run to class. hagd!
Thanks
en8 = plural of en7 = the epilogue
Is there a synanym for epilogue?
en* = opposite of the beginning + no4 = write myself a no4
Got it?
note to self: if a word won't go, it doesn't matter whether you're thinking of it as "grammatically incorrect past tense of came out of sleep" or "cooked in a wok", it still won't go
Haha
hi scrabs
Are you teaching still, hurshy?
ugh, yeah, but it's vacation this week. i'm in a long-term sub position for the rest of the year
Ty got the en
Spring break timing is so different among schools.
yeah
and i do NOT see what my last W can be!!
a crazy one for that W
I have 3 4's (2 wa and 1 wo) and a wo5.
add two different vowels to the end of the wa4
there's wa5 scrabs
for two wa 5s
ah, thanks ladycece
yw
I guess I am not fully awake. not seeing 2 diff. vowels at the end of that.
I had to go to the list. wa4/13--the 2 wa5s involve a vowel at the end
oh, I get the clue now
I was trying to add 2 diff vowels to the end to make a 5
1 wa4 with 2 diff ending vowels makes 2 wa5's
(I already had the other)
i knew that was the problem and i was just typing to tell you that when you said you got it
Yes, I was adding 2 vowels to a wa4 without success.
thanks, ladycece. it wasn't you, it was me.
hello
morning, mlfan
Good morning, MLFAN.
*honk*honk*
good morning hokie and scrab
It's burgeoning spring
I have some birds singing outside here, you might be right, bichon
I love early spring with buds and baby leaves. There are so many colors.
I love it but it doesn't love me
Allergy season.
yep
i am worried that the ecosystems in my town are not healthy. went hiking in a nature preserve yesterday and only heard one bird the whole time. saw no squirrels or anything either.
Mom has had the worst time ths year.
'morning, babblers
4th column top o stats pls?
with allergies, bea or in general?
of5 and of6, mlf
Yes, allergies.
do you ask for clues of5, mlfan?
Hi Bea and welki
delate
yeah, it's been bad here too for me and I've heard a lot of people say this has been a really bad year.
Dang!
Sorry
thanks, bea! didn't know that one.
got it ty
How so many A words!!!??
only found 6 of the upper A's. guessing they are not normal.
There's just 24.
i have 10, and four of them have to do with a sleep disorder
LOL, just 24
ah, thanks hursh
114 le4 and I have things to do. Enjoy the day.

i found de 7/8 x 2 but no 8/9 yet
I'm just on 2nd row, mlfan

kowabunga what is that last k
well i am confused, i need only 5 more d words and i have no 7/8 or 8/9 combos
nm
i have two de7 but they are in combos with 6s
oops 6/7 not 7/8
sorry missed typed
ok, so is there really an 8/9 or did that one mean 7/8?
well, bea just gave us a 6/7 combo and I just found another
reallly an 8/9
got 'em!
very good word too. evocative.
de 6/7 x 2
i dont know if their is a de 8/9 or fi its de 8 and de9?
decafonet - you know, alt sp :D
they are a combo, yes, MLF
ty hurshy
ke 7 clue pls?
most
Nothing wrong with the ecosystems in my town. Plenty of birdsong and even more squirrels.
the squirrels are a nightmare at my house
duh ty
I have a peach tree in a planter and I should just move it into our screened porch because every year I think I'm going to get a peach and they eat them all.
squirrels love to climb birdfeeders
They are piggish little things
I buy hot pepper birdseed, squirrels don't like it
hmm, i really thought endcap would work
End cap is two words
hot peppers seeds? birds eat it?
Yes, it attracts the most wonderful birds..cardinals, woodpeckers, flickers, chicadees, red wing blackbirds and more
fascinating
it comes in a cylinder. google it
wow
why google it when we can just believe you? :)
LOL, thank you. It might provide more information than I have given
I have one on a shepherd's hook right outside my window here, constant visitors
morning all
greetings, bonkler
back
birds can't perceive spicy so they don't care, but it deters mammals from eating it :)
so the 8s are de, en, and ...?
I'd say it is probably an S or a T...?
Ns Nailed!
so 8/40
70 to go.
looking... looking... looking...
You can also make your own hot pepper birdseed by stirring cayenne pepper into it. Do a Google search for the proportions.

Thanks for the so8
no 8s and no 9 but I will try those later
I keep looking for solenoid, but there's no i.
is the so8 in combo with a 7?
i have the en 8 but not the others
no
I keep thinking solodeck. 1) not a word and 2) not in the grid
two major problems there.
Bea, one of my co-workers just gave me an obedient plant. : D
is the so8 a compound?
other than that, it's a wonderful idea
It does start like that, Carla
nope, it's a weird compound
thanks, harry
ruru, the de8 goes with de9, and they are normal words
thanks, bea. got it!
I love obedient plants. But they aren't really all that obedient. =)
gpt ot
got it that is
That is what the person who gave it to me said.
of course dictionary doesn't know so8
well i still can't find it
obedient plants?
well hursh it looks like a pl but there's no sing
and now you should know 5/8 letters
it's a salty soil - I'm sure mool will get it
phew, got it at last
his daughter probably has a sample in her desk.
To go with all the compounds
could use a clue for the de8
Obedient plant stems can be bent different directions. They are also called false dragon head because of the shape af the flowers. It spreads by rhizomes which makes it pretty disobedient.
being lonely bonkler
bob dylan song: de10 row

the sahara is a de8 landscape
barren is a better clue

Good clue Harry
bonkler was flooded with clues
excellent clues
so freaking helpful we are
It was a clue deluge
I'm looking for a song to sing to time my 20-second handwashing. Would "Desolation Row" do it?
you would use up all the water in your town. run your wells dry.
Hmmm....okay...I'll use S
Hmmm...okay...I'll use "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" instead then.

keebler fudge sticks with coffee - this is one of my favorite things. I hide them from my family.

Lone tennis court dividers
great clue, thx molly
Ooh, nice one, Molly!
Would she even know who Bob Dylan is?
ya gotta LOVE tennis clues
MollyL is an ACE at them.
But what about curling clues? Huh?
i have to do my taxes today ...
No, let's not get swept up in those.
It'll just make me feel stoned.
Enough of these back handed comments
I was dumbfounded theat they don't use brooms in curling anymore. Now they use swiffers.
Damn...I got served!
there's no love here for sports
Good one Bea : D
don't make a big bonspiel out of it
you know the chog has hit the rocks when the curling puns come out
it will be a big weight on the chat to not do so

Curling puns are the icing on the cake
truly.. especially coming from the rink and file
tonle ts
luv clues
yep, a freebie
ty Luv didn't have that one :)
glad to be of service :-)
Okay, I am laughing and laughing. I'm reading about curling. Curling players are not allowed to touch their stones. (I wonder if they are told it will make them go blind)
it will make them grow hair on their palms
That's why they wear gloves.
glove love
morning all
just read through the chog for all the fab curling puns... can't believe I missed the fun!
off for a bit --keep the puns coming, so I can amuse myself later, ;-)
It never ceases to amaze me what gets missed in this chat.
okay i admit it i enjoy watching curling and i found out recently that their is a wheelchair version of it too
those "stone" are not cheap either
Okay, the world has gone to hell. I just say this on Google: how much does a curling stone way?
you mean weigh dont you?
i dont see the price when i just googled it again, but i think they are 19.95 each
i might be wrong though
They have to be more than that.
$450.
yeah, they are very expensive
looks like a whole set of 16 costs about $12,000
I mean it actually said way and not weigh
hah, spelling is for the birds
i thought spicy birdseed was for the birds
My mind is still blown from a conversation I had with someone last week on the expense of owning a boat. Yee Gods.
Same way with horses...
Does anyone have the stat and clue for the 9? Ty.
Bet you didn't read through the chat did you. Been clued many times.
its de 8/9 and i need a clue as well
Didnt see it recently bea.
Oh, I bet there is a lot of expense in owning horses.
Clued at 9:20 ish
It is expensive to ride English.
One daughter did for years.
Found that clue. Not getting it yet. But ty.
i dont see it in chat at all can someone copy paste it pls?
your house is left to you de8
mkg what is the clue?
There were five or six clues given at the time.
Got the 8 and 9./ ty
At the top of the chat, next to the MY FRIENDS tab are two icons. The first looks like a speech bubble for a cartoon. That will hide the chat. The next is a square which will show the entire chat for the whole day
No wonder I didn't get Hurshy's clue. It is from the Bible. : D
The clue is: like a desert. There is nothing there. It is de******. Plural for the 9. Ends in opposite of early.
Thanks, I have the word. I just didn't understand Hurshy's clue because I am not familiar with that Bible verse.
good morning all :)
nan.. you missed a set of curling puns earlier.
oh? There was some really good competition at the worlds this year.
First run through completed -- time for breakfast. Back Later
Why can't you have more than one Hawiian goose?
You can - the Webster's example sentence implies that the singular and plural are the same.
sold
Hmmm ...
hi again
hawaiian goose but no gooses, North American deer and deers how does that make sense?
Exactly!
a curling pun sounds like an implement used in a hair salon.
that's a curling iron
have to say I saw all the de8/9 clues and can't think of the word. /me slow
didn't realise you needed styled hair to throw stones
either styled hair or living in a glass house.
back for last 61
adjective for wasteland hoke
can also be used as a descriptive word for feeling lonely and depressed
no hair at all needed to curl -- just a great deal of mental agility, physical skill and stamina
I imagine patience too?
and a warm coat.
and a broom
yes patience too and no coat required for anyone but the skip -- the other players are working too hard to need one
oh - and nerves of steel are good as well

somehow restating the same clue didn't help me. off the thesaurus!
ah, why didn't someone mention Smaug?
it's on the front of a 6/7 combo?
oh yeah, my mistake
you can blame me...I told everyone not to mention smaug
he did.
de + sun + most of tardy
and no, that didn't even come up in thesaurus, it just came to me while I was trying to make desert, which did come up
hardy har
I would have mentioned smaug.
thanks, harry
who is smaug? oh - it's a hobbit thing. never mind.
yes, and there's a certain d10 of him
the 2nd hobbit movie (I think) is called The De* of Smaug.
led zeppelin and such.
did you find it carla?
did y'all see Amazon is making a LOTR show, and season 1 is going to cost like $465M. I think that's USD, not NZ.
I think I vaguely had heard of it, but have not been following it
I just heard about it the other day when that news came out. Not sure what else they can do that wasn't in the movies except the ending of the book, which was left out.
yes, nan, thx. I have been talking about it. :D
I thought originally it was going to be some of the tales from before the story
30!
17
oh - didn't know that was what all the hobbit talk was about
59!
darn.
this is a lovely grid though.
not bad so far
guess I need to buckle down
though I have a mess of 6s and 7s to go.
only 14/59 4's, that isn't good
4x4, 6x5, 2x6, 3x7 and 1x8 to go
11x6 and 8x7
well...that will be interesting
and class in 5 min

*also have a couple of ea's, el's and an ef
an en 7-8 carla? clue please?
compound - think of something at the back of a book or like taste after a drink of wine or liquor (I may be making that up)
ends in musical things or another word for memo
oh yes - ty - we have had that one before
there's also "to put a countenance on"
and to surround
not envelop
of to embrace I guess would be better
of=or
and not enclose
nor encircle
oh, phone call
no enface either
yes, less common, but you're on the right track
pb for you nan
Something is definitely wrong with the way this game is interfacing with users. I had it tell me three times this morning that eaten was not found in the dictionary.
found the embrace one
yeah, happened to me yesterday or the day before. I thought people were just typing wrong before but I know I did it right.
you typed another one in chat
ty mool
oh - lol -- didn't have the root either

I have a fo6/7 combo but I guess the other fo6 must be my last one
lol -- I have a friend like that -- can't get a word in edgewise anyway, so I just carry on with other things while she talks :)
I'm answering every so often, molly
three is an fo6 that is an alternate spelling
all that is required is the occasional oh, mmmph or really?
she likes to talk while driving and just got to her location. she is ranting (very legit rants too) about her daughter getting screwed on playing time.
thanks, moo. british strike again!
now just need 2 O's in 4th col to gray that or 2 A's in top row to gray that.
fo 6-7 please? is it a combo? (first set that is)
found the o's
4th col gray!
it's like a vitamin, nan. I think pregnant women take it.
nice
oh heavens - no idea what pregnant women take nowadays -- it's been 50 years!
Really, it's been 40 years for me and I still remember that one
ooh, found a word
we just took prenatal vitamins
And this was in them, I'm sure
I remember taking iron. That caused constipation
I'm surprised you took prenatal vitamins. will have to ask my mom if she did.
nan, usually it's a 2 word phrase with the f word sounding like an adj. and followe.d by acid
Didn't all women?
no - that was my kids --- think all we were told to do was drink lots of milk, no booze, extra iron and lots of fresh veggies
moo, any guesses on my upper 2 A's?
I have the british ones
I have two left on that a
I think we were even allowed wine and beer -- just no hard liquor
how many you have left?
2 there, 3 on bottom A
49 total
I have all the bottom ones
Prenatal vitamins were introduced in the 70's
they're all short off the bottom...5 letter max
I have no idea on the fo 6-7, carla -- way after my time
ok, think not early
nm - monkeyed them
ty anyway
found an A!
found the rest on the bottom
name that proper noun - tennis player stabbed during a match
ha! just found a T that usually outwits me
don't follow tennis
well surely this was super big worldwide news when it happened
what's tennis?
as I said - don't follow tennis, so wouldn't have bothered --- just watch curling and golf
sports news is usally all football, so never watch it
LOL moo
I'm just going to pretend nan is trolling me
that makes it better
woo...another word
9 to go
AA P TT SSS S
34 here.
not everyone is a sports fan, carla
I also need 1 P
but 4 T's and 5 + 2 S
I haven't even watched hockey much since the league expanded beyond the original 6
yeah, I guess curling isn't sports 😜
I guess I'll have to wait for Molly to award the dings
not biting - everyone here knows I love curling and tolerate golf
finished the other F!
fulfilling!
so
can't find 2 L's
there's one
Seles
ding ding ding!
thank you, molly
And that stabbing made national and international news
never the same after that. could have been the best ever (before serena of course).
and it happened in Germany
seles?
oh, I forgot I still needed 2 E's
moo, you already missed the dings
oh yeah...:)
I see that now...sorry on a call so was not paying as much attention
ooh, another word
and another!
so 8 please?
what were those e's again? I found the one like an embrace
wow, you're on a roll, moo
to give something a countenance
hmm, thought I tried that earlier, thx
yw
AA P T SS S
wow, I still need 7 N's from the middle
they're mostly regular words
found some bright ones
enlightening
when you say "mostly regular" does that mean there are 5 that aren't regular ;P
well all of them occur in babble to varying degrees
so not new odd
there's probably 4-5 total n words that aren't common words
lack 1 from the other N too
of course it was a very regular anatomy word
assume you have the december time one, and the sillyish plural
back. 28 to go
26 here Harry but slow

I do have Dec one. have one sillyish plural but only because the sing. is also sillyish.

probably gonna have to save the N for the list.
AA CCC P DDD Nx5 Tx4 L Sx5 SS

found 2 S's. feel like I did those this morning
found an N!
only n's that aren't normal ar the ne 6 pt of a noun, the ne 5 that sounds like a running shoe, and the no 4(s) that sound like a string tie
forgot that pt, thx. not sure if I have the rest of those or not.
oh, thought that's what you meant when you became enlightened
* ne 5 sounds like it should be a running shoe - not rhyming
that is my missing N
well, I found 2/3 of the bright gas words, moo
so 8 please?
ah
got it.
I always though that word sounded like a tech dept employee.
looks compound nan, only one + things pucks go in hopefully
what's the point total, harry?

I know 28% of the word for the P :)
I swear I tried monkeying the A earlier and it didn't take. and molly said the P was stupid. but I will add the A is too , though bea may disagree.

P7 for me...can clue the T7 if you like
providing you tell me which two you have
I reckon i need it, sure.
I'm guessing you have the pt and the plural
I need the big points one
which would mean you need to think about the 6's you have
those statements go together, in case you were wondering
no 6's around this one though
no, not remotely near it :)
at least in the list...on the board it is :)
if that's too obscure, let me know
it was, but I eventually saw it in spite of your clues ;P
I live to make life difficult for everyone :)
lol, well done
I also live for the undeserved praise
so we're both left with the stupid p7
now if we can find a stupid P
do you need a clue for the Po 7?...
great minds think alike
us too apparently
how stupid is it, pen?
is that a yes?.....the word usually ends in a Y.....
i actually guessed it at the flip....
the PO7 is a strong word
It's getting down to 18 degrees tonight...3-5 inches of snow
hmm, must end in ee, but not seeing how to make the points work. never fear, not giving up yet.
in case you were wondering
that's just wrong, moo
It's my fault, I planted some things just over a week ago
45 here tonight so we'll probably have to turn the heat on
no...ends in one vowel where a Y would normally be....
po7? clue please?
It's currently 32 with a wintry mix
well that sounds stupid, pen
70 and fair here according to my watch
as Joy said...it's a strong word...
I went out for a walk in a hoodie and long pants and that was too much
I put the bins out...that was enough
it's 60 here...
going to have to cover all the plants up again
finally found the P!
woot
shirlock, something has a po7 (ending in y) means how strong it is, like a poison
oh boy...thx
that seems so more reasonable than the words I was trying
got it, thx hokie
yw, shirl. sorry if I spoiled it, moo.
joy's and pen's clues are much more understandable now.
oh, that's okay...was done with this board
yep, should get on with other things. still haven't started the quilting of my April quilt
I will add I tried tendence several times throughout the day (which isn't even in the grid).
was trying to be subtle in my cluing....
I'm just really slow sometimes
no problem...
I've got more than 200 words and I'm going to list. I'll be the one tilted to one side.
I appreciate that pen
thought you might... ;o)
The words you killed yourself looking for become so obvious once you list.
often too true....
and then there are the words i would never hvve gotten without the context of the list...
and then there are the words i can't find in spite of the context of the list.... ;o)
i am finding that i missed some singulars and some plurals....i think it's because i found most of my words at the flip...
I often miss plurals when I see the word going a different way through the grid (not ending by an 'S', for instance).
i have that problem more when I start at the flip because then I am just going as fast as i can looking for the long words....
Yes, me too. Also, I'm convinced that it does sometimes lose the odd word.
yes, i have lost words before...
Tx for the po7....
yw....not much of a clue...
I am done...
heading out to make dinner....goodnight all...
Oh those alternate spellings.
Yes, I could kick myself for not seeing ap6/ap7
Oh yes that one was irritating
there's an FO that took me forever for the same reason
Done now - goodbye everyone
bye gillie
and that's fireworks! See y'all later and good luck!
Congrats!
