Well, that's weird! I was solving a grid 200 words bigger, with adonis in it, then Babble when peculiar, and what I think is an old grid came up, and Lickety listed that. I'd already finished it by the time Lickety kindly listed, but what the heck is going on?

I've been having eye problems for about a month now. Seen my optician but not a hope in hell of seeing my GP any time soon. Don't know what GPs in UK are up to, other than being cowardly. The eye problem has been giving me problems with balance, focus and more. Maybe I've lost a day somewhere along the way? However, my GP MUST see me now, not offer me a phone consultation in 3 weeks' time because I'm not sure who is more worried about my blurry sight and red and inflamed lower inner eyelids right now, me or my optician. Antibiotic drops and ointment have not helped. Of course, I've Googled by now, and I don't think it's just a case of conjunctivitis or any other kind of mild infection. :(
Oh, sorry to hear all that. That is stress on top of normal stress.....
oh Jacula. i really hope you get in to see your GP ASAP. eyes are very unforgiving when not treated properly.
Jacula, is going to an emergency room an option for you?
Also, just to add insult to injury, the £750 pair of new Jaeger specs the optician gave me 2 weeks ago, that I don't even know are right yet (due to the blurry vision) fell apart last night when one of little gold nuts came off the left lense to nosepiece side and has gone God knows where.
I have the same eye symptoms caused by shingles....
grannyrose - not here in UK at the moment, but if my GP won't see me then my optician may well storm in there with me.
I had covid in January and had blurry vision for months after - is that a possibility ?
Jacula, do you have hospitals specifically for eyes? gosh, you have me so worried.
Yes, there is an eye hospital, but you can't just drop in. You have to be referred by your GP... and the GPs don't seem to actually be working at present, unlike all other NHS workers. :(
for heaven's sake. well it looks like a trip to the ER is on the cards. if you are referred by a medico from there, that should get you into the eye hospital.
If I have actually managed to give myself orbital cellulitis (photos of which I came across whilst Googling toxoplamosis from cats) then that will be a real worry, since if left untreated by special antibiotics and hospital treatment, can lead to the infection tracking into your brain and giving you meningitis. I'm always very careful and hygeinic when dealing with my three cats' litter tray offerings, but it's a possibility I have to consider. :(

Ursh - I haven't had Covid, but one possibilty my optician made a note of was that the Astra Zeneca vaccination, done twice now, could be a cause. That's could be, not IS!

My uncle is a retired eye specialist who worked for the NHS. I think I might send him some photos of my eyes and see what he thinks.

I have a Melita with a thermal carafe (drip coffee makers are rarer here) and I love it

The smaller coffee makers don't come with heating plates. I have a Krups at my desk at work. It brews directly into a thermal mug.
Pour over coffee is just that. Fresh grounds with water poured over into a filter/holder.

I would guess this is due to the ignorant who have left small amounts of coffee on heating elements until it burned up the small carafes.
I do have some travel mugs that I assume are thermal, plus a lot of tervis tumblers that are pretty good at keeping stuff hot.

I brew two large mugs of coffee for my son before I leave for work and leave it on the table for him. He gets up a half-hour after I leave and it's nice and hot.
