ty for the mi6
good morning, babblers
Should the in6/33 be easy to find?
beats me, but i'll look with you
it's a little tricky directionwise
May I have a nudge, please?
oh wait, it's not you - i only found in 6/18
but i did see waluigi's brother in the grid :)
goes around in direction and meaning, matty :)
ahhh, found it
funny that my clue was appropos, but i was not
Still looking...
Ah HAH
ðŸ‘
**Had to look up Waluigi's brother. I have no clue about those games
alt universe luigi or bad luigi in super mario bros? (haven't read the chat)
bad luigi
my mistake - alt universe
LOL, I couldn't remember so would've believed either. I thought alt universe first but then 2nd guessed and threw in bad. I almost typed evil but then I didn't remember him as evil, just kind of a prankster or something. but that could be way off.
i'd pretty much lost interest after the first game, but my kids played all of them. one of them is a nintendo savant - she can beat all of them fairly easily
Do you two play these games?
Super Mario is a classic, man :)
i still have all of them - hokie and i could open a store
it's fun to watch the grandchildren play these "primitive" games, but truly a riot to watch the adult children = the sounds are identical to when they were small
Name that proper noun, silent film star sex symbol
can't believe it's over two years since i've seen them :(
my two littles were playing super mario on the emulator last night (it's an old console box my husband built which has a rasperberry pi in it with every single old nintendo game) and they were CRACKING UP
aw, welki. I'm sorry, that's tough
but what a reunion it'll be when we're able to travel :)
that is true! I can't wait for my kids to be vaccinated so I can take them back to italy to see my family
Theda
sorry to butt in, but I just signed on and read the most recent remarks and had to say that our son is flying in on Sunday for a short visit...like you welki, it's been 2 years. Still can't see grandkids which are too young to be vaccinated.
enjoy the visit, it's been such a long time for everyone
yeah, can't wait!
and you're not butting in! it's a free for all in here :)
I would give almost anything to meet my granddaughter and grandson-to-be (in March) but I suspect we'll be well into 2022 at the earliest :(
yes, have a wonderful time together!!
:-) tks mael
one big crappy boat we're all in
aww matty. Hopefully the very young will be able to be vaccinated early next year and then things ought to get better!
congrats on the upcoming new grandson!
and I won't get into the frustration we all feel
I have a march boy too :)
one of my daughters is a nurse and she's been called in to work in short-staffed departments, med/surg and icu
Well, the issue here is that Australia isn't letting ANYONE in - they'll start letting stranded Australians in in November, but no-body from outside. I should get my booster vax in December but they still won't let me in
you can't even return as a citizen??
I would have been able to go back to Italy even in the height of it as a citizen, I just would have had to (obviously) quarantine on the way in
we have the reverse problem - canada is letting just about anyone IN, but we can't get into the states easily. (and i could enter as a us citizen, but would have to leave my husband on the other side - we're not there yet *lol*)
People have been stranded for almost 2 years. They've let tiny numbers back but the numbers are so limited it's tough for anyone to get back and seems to be as much luck based as anything else, from what I gather
And regardless, my daughter and her fiance aren't citizens, so they can't leave or else they wouldn't be allowed back
we're all stuck, one way or another - at least we're here to bitch about it *wishing there was a rueful emoticon*
here's to hoping things normalize in 2022
what a mess
thumbs up to that sentiment!
I'm going back to Italy next week for the first time since all this, it's nerve wracking to even travel
It seems a little absurd what Australia is doing. People have been stranded for 2 YEARS???
buy yourself really good masks, mael
Here's an article from the BBC: https://bbc.in/2ZNl8lB about a guy stuck in India but it mentions others.
"Early on in the quarantine programme, a problem emerged. The number of people returning home - mostly from New Zealand, the US and the UK - threatened to overwhelm the system. There were only so many hotel rooms available. So the government looked for a solution. Instead of expanding the system - for example, adding a purpose-built quarantine centre - authorities drastically cut back the number of plane arrivals allowed in each week."
hello all
hello all
hello aslindy and MLF
hi pc
Finito. Have a great day all
fo5 clue pls?
bye matty
I'm back, sorry. Yes, I played the original Super Mario (I was a teenager after all) and played some of the later ones with my kids. A classic indeed.
german wind, ml
ty mael
german wind is der wind
:)
specific wind rather than general
like el niño but different
we have had that word before i just never knew what it meant
yes, I only know it from playing this
th8 clue pls?
frustrate, mlf
to frustrate?
Rhymes with thought!
oh never mind
i think of diversion as the meaning of that wrod
Not exactly, but close. Look up synonyms for th6 and diversion for the difference.
Oh great. Here comes yet another version of Windows.
you know you've been playing too much babble when you get the species of NZ lizard without listing.
or when you see a missing word on the list between two and can get it without looking at the grid.
ntpn Janet Wood actress
yes TO - crazy how that happens
i view that as part of the true brain exercise
DeWitt
wtg molly! you win a Mr. Furley poster for your bedroom
Oh joy. Wanna feel old? Joyce DeWitt is 72
tarjay is how my wife prounounces target when she wants to be fancy.
I am making no progress. 30 for later. bye!
ohh it's the daily "I have no idea who that is" moment for me, haha
I thought that said when she wants to be Francy, which would also work.
You know, it's funny. I wasn't even born in the 40's but I know who Glenn Miller is.
I have no clue, but again, actors and actresses are not my thing, even contemporary ones
oh wait, he's a musician
also no clue
Science fiction is not my thing, but I know who Issac Asimov is.
sure
it's just a question of retaining the information, I really don't care about actors/actresses or musicians. Sometimes I retain the names if I stumble into something I love, but most of the time for me it's "oh that song I like but I don't remember who sings it". My favorites I know, but that's the extent of the bandwidth I expend :)
FW! have a good day everyone
am I just being a moron with this M?
found 1 finally
but need another for HOET
What do you have?
It's 2 fours and a six
a 4. will look for the others, thanks
found the other 4. HOET!
Random question...why do people post pictures of themselves in masks? I thought the whole point of a self-portrait was to show what you look like.
a statement on life today?
I'd rather know why people post beach pics with their feet in the bottom of the shot. I don't want to see that.
I guess. It just looks like any other pair of eyes above a piece of cloth.
hello all...
so you don't believe the eyes are the windows to the soul?
hey pen!
hey carla...
The beach/feet thing has been dubbed an "epic Instagram fail". I don't know why people think their photos are so damn interesting that the whole world want's to see them.
it's all about ME....
not sure why I have been so grumpy lately... ;o|
BRB
Hi all. Any clues for the 8 or any 7s? Ty.
hi mkg....i have one seven ... de 7/32....to get off the railroad car....
Ty.
yw....
Got it.
good...
Last night i was told off for asking for clues…..i was shocked
by whom?
th8/70 - to prevent somebody from doing something
Afraid to say…………….
well sometimes you give the impression that you don't really read the chat carefully after you ask for clues...it can annoy people....i jumped in and posted the word you were looking for because I was tired of the cluing and a bit grumpy....
Sty cosmo. Great clue. Got it.
ty, cosmo...
Just missing the o word for nbt/nbs
ja7/52 - sounds like a small green ornamental stone ja4/10
oi 5....mostly vowels....
Well i dont feel good about asking for clues anymore and may take time off from this site.
oi5/12
Ty for o word. Got it.
Got it
nothing wrong with asking for clues....everyone does it..
Well it was pretty horrible to feel so told off….it was not gentle.
well some people lose patience more easily than others....
dont worry mkg.. just leave it.. he/she might have had a bad day and was just showing to you.. leave it.
It was stated pretty horribly….not at all in jest and not at all nice. Just telling me to shut up basically.
And that i was a pain in everyones side.
the problem is not asking for a clue. it's more when you don't understand a clue and you give the impression that you expect people to keep giving additional clues until you get it.
my advice....read the chat carefully after asking for clues....
Hello, all.
hi ori...
hello origami
Good advice from Pen.
hi Molly....
And from Hurshy.
Hi Pen
And just for the record, what was said was not "horrible" just to the point.
there are too many i's in this grid....
It's an IT kind of day : D
the Y isn't placed usefully, and there's no S to make the plural versions of words that end with Y, so that's a bit frustrating
truly...
i'm heading to the eye doctor... back later...
Oh those un-useful placements
bye, hursh...
i have hit a wall at 39 left...taking a break....bye all....
Bye Pen *Sprinkles holy water
I'm back. What'd I miss?
helping mr. homie hang a storm door, that is supposed to take 10 min. we have been working over an hour and I talked him into a lunch break.
thanks for the clues Cosmo
mkg, if I could add some constructive criticism...your posts come across as demanding everyone stop what they're doing and give you clues and stats for words you haven't even tried to find on your own yet, when sometimes clues haven't even scrolled off to the archive (which isn't hard to open). so my advice: 1) keep in mind everyone is trying to find words too and may not have a lot of time to help out 2) read full chat carefully 3) if you don't get clues right away come back later and it may come to you 4) don't take anything personally on the internet
Well spoken, Carla. ps love your golden
Well done Carla. That is exactly it. The !!!!!! and ????? are part of what make the clues come across as demanding.
thanks. he picked up fleas somewhere (even though he's on a preventative) and is a LOT of work right now. so much fur to go through. but he's super sweet.
good morning/afternoon everyone :)
howdy nan
back to see if I can find more words....hello all....
just been through the chat looking for clues - ty cos, didn't have that one. An in awe of Carla that she would try to mr. homie do anything D: I learned a long time ago to make myself scarce when any home repair projects were underway.
Carla, years ago, we had an Olde English Sheepdog. We had her clipped down short every summer, and her face trimmed. She looked like a lioness, but she loved it in this humidity. By fall, it was growing out. Since her, we've had easy-to-care-for labs!
nan, it is a struggle. we have completely different ideas on how things should be done (I think that's because he's left-handed) and we both want to be the leader.
I think that must be our problem as well.
sophie, have been cutting mats off him left and right so fleas can't hide in there. you aren't supposed to shave Goldens as it messes up their undercoat, but that would be so much easier.
okay, back to work. BBL for last 39.
I know the left handed part is. It's been 58 years and I still haven't been able to convince him that knives that are serrated only on one side don't work as well for lefties.
this döstädning is becoming fun. Finding vintage items that are now collectible and pricey.
i am amazed at some of them.
i just talked to someone about helping me do some cleaning out of closets....but i don't think i want to refer to that as death cleaning... ;o)
i know...but whatever gets you going. cleaning out parents' home still fresh in my mind.
rather it go to people who want it than to goodwill, for those items that are wanted
nice thought...
some being sold on consignment on etsy for me
others go to local charity.
i just found a finnish enamelware mug that is collectible to the tune of over $130 as well as a vintage Ace woven guitar strap worth about $75
nice...
Pen I am with you on the "death cleaning" thing. That is morbid.
and some parental items we considered quite mundane like vintage pyrex is sought after...who knew?
And I know there is noting "collectible" in my closets
when we cleaned out my folks' house, one of the items that sold much higher than expected at our yard sale was what I think was a death photo of an infant with a lock of hair in it....it was colored by hand....kinda eerie...
it is the experience of cleaning out the parental home that made the concept click with me.
molly, honestly, my mom's pyrex. i just shook my head. but again, not about $ so much as being as wanted as they were when i had them
we also sold some glass items for more than expected to an antique dealer who specialized in glass....
That's pretty creepy Pen.
There is someone here who makes really creepy death dolls that would probably love it
very....we did not know who it was....
that was a big thing in victorian times...death photos and saving hair. i've sen hair jewelry and pictures made out of hair.
Some glass is real big with the antique people
people should make sure their kids know what is valuable and what isn't. When we were breaking up my parents house I gave an edinburh crystal vase that had belonged to my grandmother to a d-i-l. I haven't seen it in years, so I don't know what happened to it. I hope she still has it because it is worth between $1500 - $1700.
true if you know what has value...the best selling item at our yard sale was a leather trunk (locked) that my father picked up at the side of the road and hid in the garage so my mother wouldn't see it...
as an avid fan of antique and vintage, things are only worth anything to those who want them. right now the market is flooded with goods as boomers age and downsize.
friends of a friend had a whole house of antiques recently auctioned, and they hardly got anything for them.
I remember my parents Corningware percolater. I would love to have one of those.
and younger people have different taste....not interested in dish sets, for example....
you can surely find one, molly. i've seen many, consition is jey
we have a local antique dealer who will do free appraisals on Tuesdays....
certainly not interested in fine china that has to be hand washed, that is for sure.
Trunks always seem to intrigue people. I have an old one that my father-in-law found in an abandoned house. It's a steamer trunk.
oh yes, dish sets. and in furniture, dining room is nearly impossible to unload now
trunks are great. so versatile.
That trunk opens sideways and served as a bar for a while.
nice...
sorry, make that condition is key. i love my corning, the original non stick cookware. and not toxic.
My dining table will be sold to someone for a conference room probably -- it is 7* in diamater and seats 10 people.
vintage sells well. for the younger crowd, all thing vintage bar are hot now.
It is a different world and nobdy endertains like we used to anymore.
i monitor the site that sells mine, it's astounding what sells.
anything will sell if the right person comes along. that's where the internet is very helpful, to get things to that person.
and to allow them to search for specific items.
I have one corning piece left -- a 9" pie plate with the little blue flower in the centre.
Not only do people not entertain, a lot of them don't cook. Which is why COVID was such a rude awakening for many.
lol - that is true Molly
That is part of the reason the grocery stores emptied out. People didn't know what to buy so they just bought everything they could get their hands on.
although in all fairness, fewer women can afford to stay at home anymore. If I worked all day, I wouldn't want to have to come home and cook meals either.
I don't either Nan, but it is not in the budget to eat carry out every night.
stuck at 31 - list time
37 here....i think i will list....
and I certainly wouldn't be entertaining Hubby's clients in our home, like I used to have to do - but in those days that was the norm.
29 and stuck
well my first 5 words were words i should have found...hate that....
going to follow you to the list
"ain't too proud to list, sweet darling, you elude me, don't you go"

nor the scots "dinna"

the less value in 6 is stumping me. I keep seeing "initiate" but it's a phantom
something you're born with
i'm down to my last word! a @5
sorry that's W5
got it!
nice grid, had no prob going listless.
yes, double n's, I always try with one then give up on it
thx, Hursh
when beginning with an e, there's only one n, so my middle aged brain gets it mixed up
but with an E that means "related on the mother's side" so they are totally different :D
yes, but I pronounce them the same way!
i think the E one starts with a long E sound
ah, I should google it; luckily, I don't have occasion to say it out loud :)
yep, right again, Hursh. TY
firewords! yay, now back to work. Thanks for the chat and clues, Hurshy
well I'm finally back. the 10 min storm door took maybe 3 1/2 hours, maybe a bit longer.
fun times
have you looked at the Spelling Bee yet? odd letter combo, still working on a pangram
I have not. will go look.there have been some hard combos lately.

tyvm hurshy
phantom diary and dairy
gotta give you a hand on that clue hursh
certain clues around here can cost you an arm and a leg
are you trying to point a finger at someone?
are you elbowing in hokie?
i just need to forearm you that some people don't enjoy punning around here :D
you do have a leg up on most people when it comes to punning
you're just so humerus
someone has to shoulder the load .. it might as well be me
if one can't pick a favorite arm part, does that make them bicepual?
well now you're going to make someone get their nose out of joint
I'm willing to take that wrist
you'll get nailed for it
possibly but I will never knuckle under pressure
you thumb your nose at it?
thanks for the laughs.. gotta go walk the doggie,
adios
hello everyone. I'm just getting to this grid now...it's been a busy day.
Hi, Joy
hey joy, down to 20 here but somewhat stuck. in and out though so that sometimes messes me up.

MN, googled it, tnx
still not seeing the ja7 here
ja7 = a green gem + suffix meaning similar to, or adherent of
I feel like a real ID5 because it took me ages to find the ID5.
well, I could've sworn I tried that ja7 but it's possible I left a vowel out of the middle and made it a 6. thx
yeah, that ja7 word is misspelled IMO
not seeing the IN6
the in6,33 i mean
that must be my missing i
not inward
in6,33 = in + air that blows around
thx gwen
8 - D
hmmm. That's a word, huh? thanks.
must the the oppose of un**** har har
lol
what ON EARTH could te5,12 be >.<
bOTH of them lol
the te5s are both babblets
thanks, both babblets and I didn't see either
what does that mean?
babblets are 4 or 5 letter words only seen here and no one knows them
babblets are little weird words that show up often because they are composed of common letters
[also, tedia def deserves to be the plural of tedium imo]
ahh like little maddening easter eggs?
one ends in freud's thing or another term for driver's license
te5 = te + double vowel + 2-point consonant
not that I haven't been inputting all sorts of random letter combos haha
dein
other te5 = te plus last 3 letters of air that blows around
amazing, thanks for your help hokie carla and doctor gwen!
youse welcome
I even looked through Enable and could NOT find anything... do you guys just find them through trial and error?
just learn them after a while
after playing boggle and this game for 40 years you learn all sorts of weird words (not what they mean, maybe, but that they exist) LOL
you know about the list, but if you can't find a specific word you can use websites like a2zwordfinder, morewords, and my favorite bestwordlist to look them up
also, we use the word list (see the tiny green link at the bottom, Lickety's Babble Clues
and when I get stuck i use moreword.com
oops, morewords.com
FW for me!
I think frob was talking about the lickety list last night so I think she knows that.
Anyone need clues?
not every dictionary includes the same obscure words, though
