7:07 am

hello all

7:28 am

Licorice flavored liquor, how revolting

7:32 am

GM! today's wordle was hard! i still got it but my question to all players, do you think wordle is getting harder or is it just me?

7:34 am

today there were actually two different words, depending on whether you'd refreshed the page and switched to the NYT version!

7:35 am

i'm still playing on the original site

7:38 am

ah, so you got the hard word :)

7:39 am

is this some strategy to get me to the NYT one? sneaky NYT

7:40 am

nah, the NYT just thought some words were going to be inaccessible (like british spellings and tricky ones like today's) so they've slightly edited their list

7:40 am

I didn't even know one could stay on the old one, mine refreshed when they switched over

7:41 am

i haven't refreshed lol, was too worried I'd lose my wordle streak of 37! woot!

7:41 am

tinyurl.com/3f8ae5na

7:41 am

I did lose my streak of 49, I was pretty grumpy

7:42 am

see! i wanna see how far i can get before i miss a word

7:43 am

I'll just add my longest streak to it in my head, haha

7:58 am

never played wordle. for some reason, when anything becomes a new trend, I avoid it.

8:01 am

it's really fun

8:02 am

2nd mael's comment, it's only one word a day so it doesn't feel like too much of a time suck

8:03 am

unlike certain grids i can think of lol

8:03 am

if I worried aobut a time suck, would be here? lol

8:03 am

Ah, aslindy, another Non-bandwagon jumper

8:06 am

I play three "dle" games every morning: Wordle, Dordle (really makes Wordle people look like amateurs!) and Nerdle. I do try Lewdle once in a while, but man, that's a hard one!

8:06 am

(I just don't plaster my social media walls with my scores. :) )

8:07 am

a clue for the tw5,18 tw6,30 which I assume is plural?

8:07 am

I don't know if you and I are thinking the same tw5/18, but think Chubby Checker. And an anagram.

8:08 am

no, I have that

8:08 am

both of them

8:08 am

How about Vincent and Julius Benedict?

8:09 am

yep, got that

8:09 am

d'oh!

8:09 am

There was actually a news story about a woman who was saved from an intruder because her daughter called the police. Why did the daughter call the police? She had not gotten her mother's Wordle score of the day. Good grief.

8:10 am

Found another tw5/18 but its plural (if it does have a plural) isn't there.

8:10 am

No rosy fingered dawn?

8:10 am

i saw that article and skipped the word RECUSED in the headline so thought that the point was that the woman was being held hostage BECAUSE she didn't share her wordle score lol

8:11 am

The tw6 is a stupid word. There is a really bad clue for it earlier in the chat.

8:11 am

thank you, godthaab

8:11 am

Okay, aslindy -- I got all four of the tw5/18s and it doesn't appear that the tw6 is actually a plural version of any of 'em.

8:11 am

got them now, thanks all

8:11 am

Cheers!

8:12 am

got to go for now, hope to come back for the last 63 later

8:13 am

The chat starts creeping me out when people start quoting The Odyssey.

8:13 am

tw6 is not a plural

8:17 am

have you tried Quordle? guess 4 words at once with 9 tries

8:18 am

Okay, that is taking the whole premise a little too far

8:18 am

it's really fun

8:19 am

and challenging, but I love logic puzzles

8:20 am

the cool thing about epithets like rosy-fingered dawn is that they were a trick to remember the verses of the poem, given that it was always repeated orally

8:20 am

I find it fascinating

8:20 am

ooh, I need to try Quordle! See if my never-fail start word works on that too! (It works well on Dordle.)

8:23 am

3 out of 4!

8:27 am

my best was guessing all of the in 3-4-5-6 tries

8:31 am

Jaynes talks about the transmission of oral texts as a prelude to self consciousness in the evolution of the brain.

8:37 am

This is like a conversation around a bong in a college dorm

8:39 am

godthaab....I like your icon.....My nickname in college was

8:40 am

"Parralel

8:40 am

"Parallel fifths.

8:44 am

sorry....I am a good speller....but a bad typist.

8:44 am

I took many classics classes in college so these were regular, non-stoned conversations :)

8:45 am

the most stoned conversations were with my japanese history professor, who liked to pass one around after class

8:46 am

that gives a new meaning to ohio deska

8:50 am

our psych prof would pace back and forth as he lectured, flicking his cigarette.. one day a student asked why he didn't use an ash tray: he stopped and replied;

8:50 am

"the world is my ashtray".. i'll never forget it

8:51 am

many smokers feel that way

8:52 am

yeah, like when they flick their cigs out the car window

8:56 am

my father did that all the time..

8:56 am

seems it was (or is) a norm

8:57 am

causes fires during the dry season

8:57 am

it's really dangerous

8:59 am

can't find those last ab6's

8:59 am

Do they still put ashtrays in cars?

8:59 am

don't think so Molly

9:00 am

USB plugs now

9:01 am

Well I don't think you can put a cigarette out in a USB plug

9:01 am

they have them in Hyndai Fumes

9:01 am

lol !

9:05 am

aebmusica - thanks! I got killed lotsa times in uni! Now that I "really" write music, it's parallel city!

9:06 am

mael, did you find it?

9:15 am

What type of music do you compose godthaab?

we had a 2016 Audi with a cigarette lighter. it also had no backup camera.

oh, you were talking ashtrays, not lighters

9:18 am

hi Hokie!

9:18 am

hello to you all!

hey dolly!

9:22 am

NC round crackers are in the grid today. Not to be confused with four corner crackers.

9:22 am

well, the al7 looks like a plural but is actually an adv. that means "perhaps", as if I've ever seen that word !

not sure I know either cracker

I can't even see an L next to an A

9:23 am

I think it is ai7

9:24 am

sorry, it is

well, I am not seeing words today here or in the bee, so could be al

9:28 am

time to do some chores.. want to play pickleball this afternoon. Happy Babbling, ciao for now

we are in Ocala, Aloy. it has been freezing here!

9:32 am

this friggin

9:32 am

game.. it doesn't take common french words and then accepts others.. like books

it's well established fact that the enable word list makers were smoking crack

9:36 am

will it take Spanish Books NOOOOOOOOOO.. will it take Italian Books NOOOOOOOOOOO.. but french Books are ok

9:39 am

so it only takes francy words?

9:40 am

it actually takes the plural of italian books!

9:40 am

libri

9:40 am

which is odd

oh, the french word for books? I didn't know which french books you were talking about.

9:41 am

li5/6

I believe it's libro in spanish. I never know any french but will assume it's similar to the spanish and italian.

well, thank you google

9:44 am

it's libro in italian too, the singular

per the def, it is a french coin and we know how enable loves every coin ever made.

9:45 am

yeah, it probably means the coin or the weight (that's what LB comes from)

interesting. I have wondered in the past where lb for pound would ever come from, but I guess I hadn't thought of it since the advent of the internet.

9:47 am

in italian pound is libbra, which is the same root word. latin roots help with babble!

nothing really helping me today. still 56 left. not even close to HOET.

speaking of Italy, I watch A Farewell to Arms last night. I somehow knew it was going to be depressing, yet I kept watching.

watched, cannot type

9:51 am

which version?

ah, just found the 8 so I've got that going for me!

It was the Rock Hudson one

9:54 am

yeah, the story goes from sad to sadder

9:54 am

I haven't read the book in a while

well, I'm getting ready for a bike ride. 52 left for later. TTFN.

10:08 am

have fun

10:08 am

I'm heading to the grocery store

10:15 am

good morning everyone :)

10:16 am

Hey Nan....

10:17 am

Just read that Prince Andrew has settled his case, with a large donation to charity. I still don't like the man though.

10:18 am

Sorry, should have said hello before launching into a tirade!

10:19 am

Re7/28 please?

10:19 am

Get back in your boat!

10:21 am

I think he got the randy andy nickname for a reason hydra

10:22 am

I feel sorry for his wife and kids -- imagine having a father like that!

10:23 am

I used to work with someone who was friends with the kids of Robert Hanssen, the worst spy in US history. Having a father who is a famous criminal is hard on the kids.

10:25 am

Re7/28 please?

10:26 am

get in you boat again

10:26 am

plural

10:27 am

Tx!!

10:28 am

cyber, I agree with you!

10:35 am

Good morning all! I struggle with English words, so I'll stay out of the previous chat, but I always enjoy the discussions. Got half all by myself. It doesn't take much to make me happy. :)

10:49 am

just had to help hubby with his computer problem and learned something new. If you get the trojan that locks you computer with pop ups, do a hard power down and when you turn the power back on press the windows key + I (i) and your computer (win 10 0r 11) will restart in safe mode. You can then run your AV scan.

10:52 am

you are so smart.... I need to copy and paste this somewhere to have it, Nan

10:53 am

hey Hydra - you still on?

10:56 am

You struggle with English words, or British words? If English, what language do you speak?

10:56 am

just remember if you ever need to use safe mode restart that it will take much longer than normal for everything to boot up.

10:58 am

Also, you can't run safe mode indefinitely. Sooner or later you are going to have to address what has infected your machine.

10:58 am

34 and 11 are 4's

11:05 am

that's why the first thing to do is run your av program molly -- it should put the virus if there actualy is one in quarantine for you. I ran both the av program (which didn't show anything) and crap cleaner which gets rid of the temp files and the caches. Sometimes these things are actually pop ups wanting you to buy something, but they are very annoying.

doesn't your av run automatically and give real time protection? avast does. as does firefox

11:06 am

*either that or they are phishing scams

on the old pc i just shit it down. it goes away and never comes back.

hahaha ha shut. who needs that sh*t!

11:07 am

I don't often get anything questionable, so I use free versions in addition to the microsoft one. You need to run a check manually each day before shutting down.

avast is free. works very well

11:08 am

will look into it, TO

will zap them real time and runs automatically for cleanup each day

in rtandem with firefox works for me

11:09 am

so far defender has been doing it's job for me.

11:22 am

so many new and strange "words" today that I have stopped looking up defs.

11:23 am

the last one I monkeyed wan an acronym, so I give up

11:32 am

first sn 5/10 please?

11:33 am

nm - was starting with the wrong sn combo

11:38 am

4 left -- all a's (back later)

12:03 pm

12:04 pm

12:05 pm

isn't that the 5-6 combo?

12:05 pm

12:05 pm

12:08 pm

12:09 pm

12:09 pm

ummmmmm it rhymes with someone who is not a spender but a s_____

12:10 pm

ty hurshy

12:10 pm

another new word

12:11 pm

ai + most of a window shade (pl)

12:12 pm

ty

12:12 pm

boat fabric? - only think I can think of is canvas and that is not breezy

12:13 pm

12:13 pm

it is not type of fabric

12:14 pm

no idea -- can't be what you hoist

12:14 pm

yes it can

12:14 pm

12:15 pm

don't see a homonym

12:16 pm

use the end of the bridal headpiece

12:17 pm

ty hurshy -- another new word.

10:36 pm

do you understand this game yet?

10:37 pm

i saw you were trying to figure out the word stats the other day.. those are simply a count of all the 4 , 5, 6, 7, 8 letter words.. so you know when you have found the 8 you're done with that

10:37 pm

Not compelely... not sure what the green numbers mean on the bottom right

10:37 pm

oh okay thank you :)

10:38 pm

length of the words in the grid.. there are no 9's 10's 11's 12's or 13's in this grid.. the biggest word is an 8 letter word

10:39 pm

as you complete the board you start closing out tiles they get dark and grey/black out

10:39 pm

neato

10:42 pm

this one is a bit challenging because some words are really twisty

10:42 pm

I'm finding that out.. still have 75 left to find

10:45 pm
