No rules about cluing. It used to be that you didn't give any more than the first two letters (like Lickety) in your clues. Giving 4 letters of an 8 letter word is just about spelling the word out instead of cluing.

No one, it was a mutually agreed upon thing. Like no cluing the first our of the flip. Neither one applies anymore as there is no mutual agreement anymore.

A lot of players turn off the chat due to excessive cluing here.. sometimes it is a bit much for a lot of players. People don't normally complain, they just lurk and close off the chat. I was just pointing out that giving away that much of the word is a bit much. I learned how to clue from Haz and try to do it in a way that doesn't give things away.
and a lot of players clue that way.. so it's water under the bridge as far as I am concerned. People can do what they want here ...

hmmm. I have been playing off and on for 17 years now and these unwritten rules of early cluing or over-cluing have been traditional. I am one of those who almost always hides the chat.
yeah, I think there's a certain skill to being clever with clues and not just spelling it out. I don't mind helping out more if players are stuck, but that's never my first approach
