Phantom: enamel
Wow, big words today
wow. a 12!
an12 !!
Does anyone know if the AN12 is a common (or reasonably common) word?
Not common at all
something that prevents blood clots
And very twisty
It actually prevents a substance that helps promote blood clots (as opposed to an anticoagulant)
much better definition Molly!
Thanks to some research
Thanks guys
I'm not getting the an12. Is :anti" the correct beginning? Just not seeing it... Your help is greatly appreciated!
It does - try googling this (with quotes around it) " a substance in the blood that limits the blood's ability to clot (coagulation)"
WHOA! What a word! Thank you very much! I just wasn't seeing the "TH".
I don't think you have to us quotation marks in the US version of Babble
*use
well, I did not notice all the big words when I played last night. I appreciate the 12 clue as I do not know that word.
and all I kept seeing last night and this morning is enamel - ruru be damned!
I only meant to use quotes when plugging it into Google :)
I meant the US version of Google
oh, I misread Molly's post and thought she meant you don't need quotes in US google
You read it the way it was NOT written
looks like I misread it correctlyl 🤣
Using quotes can just ensure you get right to the word, rather than other words that may have similar meanings (I've just found it a useful trick sometimes)
no idea where that l came from
It's not required, but can be helpful
The other day we had a Brit player saying that doing the Google search for a definition wasn't working. I was pretty sure it works in all forms of Google.
I'm finding the early stages of this grid to be very difficult for one this size.
well, I forgot what that word was, ependyma or something, but I had trouble that day too with google giving me all sorts of things but that
Sometimes the word is within a paragraph under what you enter in Google. It was with ependema.
Thing with Google is, assuming you're logged it, it will sort results for where you are (i.e. health queries made in the UK will often bring up the NHS site first) and what you've done before - it tries to figure out what YOU want, rather than necessarily serving the same results to everyone
*Imagines Google processing "she's dumb. Give her the rube results" for me.
i hate when computers think they can figure out what i want. they're usually wrong.
wow we even have a 12 today! so rare!
quattrocentos/13 is the longest I've ever seen
well it doesn't seem to allow for anything longer than 13
That has been debated before
why debate, we could just email doc and ask what would happen
gtg, ttfn!
Depending on the way the word lays out, I think a 15 letter word is possible
Lickety has stats on his page about the biggest grids, the smallest grids, the biggest words and the smallest (I'm sure most of you guys know that though!)
Molly …..I really loved your shamrock icon for Saint Patrick’s Day. Was it part of a stained glass window?
No clue. Just an image I found while searching the web.
if hokie was here I'd tell her ointment was a phantom :D
She's off taking her crazy pills
??
She mentioned feeling like she was taking crazy pills in yesterday's discussion
oh
i missed that
with all the shouting :D
THERE WAS SOME YELLING
I think she thinks I'm hard of hearing
hello friends
hi bea
good morning to everyone!
hi saan
thanks for the 12 saan
new word to me
I was looking for it in vein ...
I'd also tell Hokie tiara is a phantom today too
Sorry Ru, no one is here who is going to throw a hissy fit over phantoms
apparently I did yesterday
Pot stirrer 😋
where is hokie today?
she was here earlier
must be playing tennis or something
ains
aits
damn it
sorry
working on the a's now
i'd probably have more words if i could keep my eyes open.
no sleep bea?
yes, i slept but not well, i guess
hello all. 150 left and slowing down but will persevere
I have an li/11 that is a plural. help with other li/11 please
nm
it was a plural of another li10
i gotta get to work.. have fun.. 37 to go here.
finally found that 12
good morning all -- what are the stats for the 12, please?
an12/144
ty molly - looking
It does - try googling this (with quotes around it) " a substance in the blood that limits the blood's ability to clot (coagulation)"
You don't need the quotation marks
most of us probably take blood thinners
really? I hope I don't have to.
do you take 81 aspirin?
no, please tell me why I would.
I only took a blood thinner (aspirin) after hip surgery to reduce the risk of blood clots in my surgical leg
Many doctors recommend one aspirin a day for heart issues
that is why i take it to prevent heart lung and stroke issues
don't have a heart issue, fortunately. I take enough meds, don't want any more
And it's 81 mg, not 81 aspirin tablets (way too much obviously)
got the first 10 letters, but not the last two
its 81 mg
not out
Not out
Anyone else?
ty bichon
i just came off a hefty dose of blood thinners because i got a clot in my leg over thanksgiving
yvw nan
Actually, if it's not indicated, you don't want to be taking anything to thin your blood
Exercise is your best bet to prevent blood clots
mmmmm, ma5/16
Ole! ta5/14
(It's blurting time)
morning all
hi mool
hey hursh, happy Monday to you
likewise
why do they have to put SO MUCH water in the baby carrot bags
thanks
so they don't look like old man fingers ;)
putting a little does that. if they put too much it just makes the carrots get slimy.
I suspect some of it comes from the sprinkler systems in the produce section too
no, cause this is INSIDE a sealed plastic bag
don't mind having a bigger board to come to on Monday morning
that bit doesn't get sprinkled and even if it did it wouldn't be able to get in the bag
then the only reason left is to specifically annoy you
i don't mind a bigger board... pretty much ever! only exceptions have been days when i was driving alllll day
there's a dark room somewhere in the fresh produce world, with people scheming
it's just the "more is better" assumption i think. people who aren't that bright figure if they're supposed to put a little water, better to err on the side of more
well yes, that would make sense...I mean it's not going to hurt to have a little more
except it DOES, it makes the carrots SLIMY
same with packaged celery
there was a House episode where this kid was sick because his older brother was giving him huge doses of kids vitamins, thinking more was always better
I've never gotten a bag of carrots or celery with water in it. If I did, I would return it. They are not supposed to have water in them.
the regular full size carrots do not have water, it's only the baby cut ones that have this problem
oh, yeah, the baby ones will dry out without some water.
i should probably just go back to buying full size, really
Pre-cut vegetables?
are you really unaware of the whole baby carrot phenomenon?
they are hugely popular
Nope, I have seen bags of baby carrots, but they are not cut and they don't have water in them
they are cut, that is the way baby carrots are made. they take ugly misshapen regular carrots and cut em up and smooth em down and make even more of a profit
it was a brilliant business move for ugly carrots that previously people were not buying
Oh, I buy regular carrots
if you don't buy the baby carrots you probably would not notice the water, it's not noticeable in the store. but when you buy them and open them you would notice.
sometimes it is a fine amount and sometimes it is TOO MUCH
i found a 9!
found a 10 myself just now
so many big words...exciting
hokie's right though, it's a hard grid
I'm only on the third row
i'm only on the second!
mmmmm, mi4 kitkats are so good
(i was just eating them)
phantom: instant

the an12 has been clued ad nauseum
the only 11 i have it the plural of li10 to set free
ty will try ti find it.
this grid is too big and too difficult to worry about cluing for others
li is to set free right?
li10 yes
i got the li 10 but it is a plural. so there must be another one.
got the li words. ty ty ty there are two li 10s.
FWs

rehi
any clues for the famous 12? ty. trying to get half way in the meantime. i gave up before.
second part of the word is vaguely like (first part, plus a letter) the brass instrument with the slider
moo the 12 is a th word? i thought it was an.......confused.
no, it has the "against" prefix in front of that
there's an 8 letter word that is the second part of the word
the 8 letter is th
sothe against prefix, plus an 8 letter word. hmmm. and does the 8 letter word repeat itself?
no, 8 unique letters in the 8
i got it. whew. now that was painful. ty for clues.
no problem...difficult word
so it does not repeat. first and second parts are not similar. ty.
and there's a 7 that is almost the same as the 8, just remove a letter
about 20 words to go to half way and no blanks. whew.

are all the li10s related or is one unrelated
oHO one is unrelated

how about dustin hoffman
oh i see, two words
Ra4 Man
that the one
300 words!
and there is batman's evil rodent cousin
ratman
I think this grid may win the prize for being one of the tuffest we've had in a long time. Whew! Finally finished!
may i get a hint for the 12 i believe its anti ?
Yes, followed by an enzyme involved in blood clotting, which is also in the grid by itself.
Starts much like a word for the feeling if you hit your thumb with a hammer (a pulsing pain), but with an extra consonant
Ends like a disposal container
Ends *with* a disposal container
I need a clue for the 12 please
look immediately below
an 12 clue pls? what are we against today???
oops sorry need to read when i arrive
Having the ta8/40 in two grids so close together seems like quite a coincidence, even if it's been a few days
i think it's just the way the program works- around some logic, like a wheel
