morning, y'all! I'm back from making ice cream on the mountain in New York. :)
I don't know what that means exactly but sounds delish
welcome back, seain!
a group of us gather annually, last in 2019 for obvious reasons, on a mountaintop in New York for a weekend of social, games, dances, and ice cream. I work in the kitchen to make meals for the group.
wp.baitcon.org to learn more. Site does not work in Chrome.
awesome tradition
sounds fun
It very much is, and I _know_ that any of y'all would fit in and have a great time. It is a camping event, if with flush toilets and showers in the main area, if outhouses in areas we sleep in.
and hello, sprite, carla, et al :)
in 8 hours, I need to be at a hotel a few blocks away to play bridge with one of my partners. Who needs sleep.
sleep is overrated. When you are young and stupid. After that, it becomes such a dear, though sometimes elusive friend
This weekend, I got to introduce and Afrikaner to a Nederlander.
I'm old enough to be in that grouping, sprite :)
that should go pretty smoothly. We kinda sorta speak the same language
me too, seain!
my friend Mieke was shocked that I am two years younger than her. LOL
hehehe
her birthday was yesterday
Mieke sounds very dutch (as a name I mean)
phantom eight
I got a ton of exercise over the weekend, and my blood pressure plummeted. That is good.
good company, exercise, good food and lots of laughter, best cure for high BP
Mieke Citroen fully. She's originally from The Hague.
<3 well said, sprite.
citroen in dutch is lemon in english. Great name.
:)
well, I'm going to try to sleep. 24 left for tomorrow. good night.get some sleep for your BP, seain. :D
night carla
g'night carla
found the 8, what an oddball
thank for the oddball comment :)
:D
relates to the th herb, which makes it make sense.
not to me. I would go for something like 'most ......-like'. But then again, being dutch, my knowledge of english is bo4 limited and probably old-school
that same suffix means similar to in English, and the suffix is more like grootest
lol! That would be grootste, I think?
oh, yes, you are right, I'm still learning.
no problem, I am impressed anyway. Dutch is a really tough language to learn.
what makes it a bit confusing from English il the many similarities, except where it's false, like with deer/dier
related, but not the same.
I know, right! Same confusion the other way. Deer and dier. Or beer, bier and bear.
exactly!
and I've still not figured out rules for je/jij and similar.
the card game on which Bridge is based is in the grid today.
yeah, that is confusion. Jij is always second person singular, subject. But je can be lots of things.
confusing*
for u/je I've decided to apply the same rules I use for tü/usted in Spanish, until I learn otherwise.
Je can be an alternative for jij, it can be subject, object and other things
that much, I have figured out, but thank you for that explicit clarification.
it was nice to have some opportunity to practice speaking with a native speaker some over the weekend, though.
U is formal, je is informal. We use U when we don't know a person, or we do and we want to show respect or want to keep our distance. Jij/je is for friends, people the same age or younger, people we like
oh yes, nothing beats speaking the language with a native for learning it.
thanks, that means same as the usage I know from Spanish then. :)
yes, I believe it is similar
g'day seain and sprite. * hugs * all round
g'day rose :)
*hugs rose right back* Hiya hun!
we have had a bright shiny thing in the sky today. can't remember what it's called..
one thing that surprised me this weekend: one attendee came from Anchorage, Alaska and one came from Bern, Switzerland.
yay sunshine!
shiny! Where! *magpie eyes*
long distance friends, how lovely
lol... and the swimming gear came in dry, ready for Thursday.
tsk. Waste of energy. Will get wet right away anyway
I'm attending a party on Thursday.
yeah, we know all about long distance friends, don't we sprite? still waiting for Scottie and his be4.
absolutely. Still, I feel so blessed we got to meet in person twice, and spend time together.
you socialite, you, seain. i want pictures and a full account please.
check back in the chat, it all be there. Short: making ice cream on a mountaintop in New York.
sprite, easier to put on dry for me. not the sylph-like critter i once was.
sure you are. On the inside :)
of course you are seain. what else would you do on a mountain top.. rofl
contradance, English country dance, blow bubbles, play board games, make coffee, cook Moroccan beef stew, and more!
get a little sappy at times.
omg I really wish I'd been there. Love it all.
this was a joyous gathering after 5 years.
sappy is good. Has an undeserved bad reputation.
omg, seain, sounds amazing.
Had a lovely debate about talmud yesterday.
sadly, it rained and was cloudy on Saturday, so we couldn't Sing Down the Sun.
and did you learn anything seain?
I learned how to make Moroccan beef stew, and that the head chef uses less than half as much cheese in the cheese sauce as I do.
last Friday, at the morning tea i ho4, someone brought up the topic of T***p. i almost had WWIII on my hands.
And my invitation to all y'all to attend it if you can, stands.
LOL, sounds like a fun time, Rose.
ouch, rose
thought i would have to get the fire ho4 out, like you do with fighting dogs.
lovely, seain! Well, who knows. Sounds like something wonderful to attend.
i think i may take a squirty bottle of water with me next time.
you never know seain, one day... when my ship comes in.
it always puzzles me, when people get so worked up that they cannot discuss things without getting into a fight. Why not exchange opinions and listen to the other's arguments?
Yes, respectful debate can be wonderful.
exactly sprite. but i do have to admit some of the statements were very hazardous.
nota bene: it is a camping event, if with flush toilets and showers in the main area.
my off-sider, usually very placid and goes with the flow, had st5 coming out of her ears. i thought she was going to storm out.
yeah that would be an issue. This old body doesn't do sleeping on the floor anymore. But still... camp bed... doable.
poor woman
and between us, we can provide tent, double height airmatress, bed linens, and towels if coming a long way
goodness, rose, how awkward
wow... that makes it very doable, seain
I do hope y'all parted on speaking terms.
so long as the toilets don't have to be dug, and i can wash away the day before bed, i'm happy. btw, are hoists available? just asking for a friend who has a little? difficulty getting up from anything below 3 feet from the ground.
we did seain. i was able to shush them all before too much damage was done.
we work with whatever, and have camp sites in the main area, a short walk from the plumbed and electrified amenities.
I'm glad to hear tha.
nice.
rose is good at that
awww sprite. are you thinking of the same incident when we were over and went to Brugges together?
yes :)
just a little understanding and his whole attitude changed. i didn't realise how much power there is behind acknowledging another's feelings, and validating them.
Albany, New York is the closest airport to our site. Several of us drive from Washington, DC, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh, and Boston, too.
it really helps.
and seain? how many hours of flying before i get to Albany, New York? roflol
Oh, I know! 20h from KIAD, which I live near.
hey, if i turned up, i may well be the one who has traveled the furthest.
we had one person com from Doha to our 20th high school reunion.
especially in terms of getting back to sanity
mind you my arms would be pretty tired flying all that way..
thoughts of meeting seain and me IRL would keep you airborne
LOL that's what brooms or umbrellas are for. Though umbrellas would be tired arms also.
buried my mother's broom with her... lol
my needy cat is on me. My little orange tabby, allowed me the see and touch her.
could come by submarine or cruise liner... now there's a wonderful thought.
*grins* that's cats for you.
Baltimore, Maryland has a cruise terminal.
awww how sweet. is this the first time she has allowed that?
rose, I am NOT getting into a submarine. Not. Just... not.
indeed, sprite. Next year will make 50 years living with cats for me.
bbs, nature calls
but it will be a yellow one, and we could be on the surface most of the time
no, but I've been away since Wednesday, and it's very early Monday morning now -- I'm 1h ahed of grid time.
We sang yellow submarine sometimes on the school bus. We spent about 90 min each way on that bus.
ugh, go to bed you silly man...
not least I need to be up at 08
* giggle * i can just hear it.
for why? 0800?
I'm playing bridge about a 30 min walk away at 10, and want to make coffee and eat before I set out.
you ARE keen, aren't you? still, if you have a nice day, and you allow yourself enough time so as to not push it too hard.
thank you. But I really ought clear the bed -- I dumped stuff on there on return, and sleep for a bit. Happy Babbling, y'all!
::poof::
i am up at 0800 most mornings, meds regimen. except Sundays. we are up at 0600.
sweet dreams Seain
*sends a hug after seain* Back
welcome back dear heart.
thank you :) I hate having to go while babbling and chatting with you, but when you gotta go...
no an issue honey.
sounds like seain had a wow of a time.
yeah, truly wonderful
fireflies
sure would be lovely to join in one day. ahh well, a girl can dream, can't she?
WTG SPRITE !!
another great grid. Honey, have a lovely evening and a peaceful night. Hugs and kisses, for Don as well. And yes, would be wonderful! Who knows, rose... we might one day.
hope your day is kind to you, andyou can relax. * hugs *

Any clues for the th 8 word? There is a 7 too so i assume 8 is plural. But not seeing it.

there is no th7

The 8 has nothing to do with the 7's
Any help welcome. Just not seeing anything.
Sorry, i am referring to the 8: th 8. Not seeing anything. Not seeing the 7 either. Duh…….
There is no th7
That is why I said the 8 has nothing to do with the 7's and why phaeton said there is no th7
howdy folks
<--knows all of hokie's phantoms
Not sure if I should be impressed or worried
I'm not sure either.. probably means it's getting space in my head
:D
well, there are a lot today. siege, height, sight, eight to name a few.
They why it's getting space in your head is the worry part
still 22 left, the most being 6 B's. are the B's bad? is it just me?
I have them all so they can't be that bad
very smug 🤣
finally found my 2 lower H's
found 1 B
another phantom - besiege
well, I gotta get on with my life. 4-5-6-1 left for later.
SSS H O i G BBBBB A MM T
greetings
hmm, am i being thick or are the B words just difficult
i have 17 but... really stuck
Molly says she has them all, so they can't be that bad (her words)
Some of them are definitely a bit weird, though - and I also have only 17
There are only three or four that I find odd
i mean i found several i'm proud of
it's just funny cause every other tile i've got either 1 left or grey
Well, carla was having trouble with the b's also - she had 5 left at last report
phantom: length
I'm trying to match what carla had before going to the list, just to push myself a bit (I'm always very impatient)
are some of them BH?
None that I have - but I haven't listed
My weirdest ones are bi5 and bo5
the bi6 is ordinary, but a bit twisty
oh i do not have a bo5
and bo4 babblet
thanks!!! got that now
do you have all the 7s? i have ga, ho, is
oh - be7, which I think I know from Lewis Carroll
(just got it)
ahhhhh thanks
down to 8 now, half fives and half sixes
18 left here - still don't have ho7
ttfn
got the ho7 - duh
I'm very bad at 4's for some reason - still 9 left
rehi
hi carla - was just telling hurshy that i've been trying to match your tile counts before going to the list (i'm still one short on the G)
But it looks like maybe you didn't have be7?
these last words are very tough
I don't. I know it's not besiege.
found bi6 though
I'm at 8 4 3 - not as good at you at finding the 4s
now 4-5-5-1
I shouldn't have 4 4's left since I methodically went through every tile trying 4's and still didn't find them
be7 is used in Jabberwocky, but apparently has been around much longer
is the be7 a regular word?
a bit weird
oh, I remember Jabberwocky but not specifics
"bright, cheerful, and optimistic"
read jabberwocky and saw it, thanks
did you get the similar 5?
yes - ty
I had that one last night but didn't think to try this ending
okay, what's everyone have and did hurshy go back to work? SSS H O i G BBB A MM T
SSS O I GG BBBB A M T
phantom botany
did you get the g4 that goes with the 7?
yes
or the british umbrella (I had no idea and just monkeyed it)
that i don't know
aha, found my bottom T - rhymes with that one.
g4 looks like a g5 portmanteau (missing 2nd letter and not in grid) of glamour camping
well - i'm giving up and going to the list
I think your bottom T might be one of 2 ta5
odd ba4 babblet
Actually, my t was a very easy ta4
well, my A was a 4 babblet. I decided to list too
I'm not finding any of my b's with the list. they are all 5's. moving on!
there's a bi5 that just needs one letter added to the preceding bi4
i'm stuck on a bo5
got it - a kind of tea - now just SSS
I'm having to skip all kinds of things. no wonder I couldn't find them.
well, the s4 took forever, still 2 s's I skipped
i'm down to a sh6
googled the tea, thanks
and the bi5 you mentioned. still need the one after it.
molly is flying her word nerd flag today with those b's
ends with a vowel
got my sh6 using morewords - don't think i've ever seen it before - ends with the sound sheep make
thanks, don't think I've seen that either
I still have S O G B. guess I will be looking them up
oh dear, that S is a regular word
do you have ob5 - looks like a funny spelling of following a command
just looked it up. had tried it as a 4 several times.
could've sworn I tried the g6 earlier (not that I know the word but was just trying everything)
it's tricky because it looks like a plural
the bi5 is the animals, plants, etc. of a period
(or region)
it is according to bestwordlist, we just don't have the sing here
was going the wrong direction on the bi5!
oh, right
alright, good work. thanks for the help. gotta get busy now.
have a good day!
you too
phantom: beignet

Imagen a gamin pygmy batman named Hamish and a Bigman
hiya once more, oh i had that one too mael
maybe he's a hobbit
wearing fishnet
lol
maybe he's really a sheila
or perhaps just a legman
One of these days my phantom will be an actual word and I'll have to go in the PB, if that even exists any more.
are there any TS words?
I think they closed it for renovations
no, no TS words
I've completed that T at least
ok thanks
i haven't. i have 5 fours from there and i know whatever i'm missing is a 5 or a 6
somewhat surprised misfelt doesn't work
i tried that one too mool
The phantom batman pygmy named Hamish had a signet ring.
eight pygmies piled for height might be quite a sight
aHA got it, to6/24
Especially if one in a legman
God this chat gets weird sometimes
Sometimes?
We like to play with words.
and just the other day you were complaining that it was boring, people not having fun chats like they used to...
Exactle I vos tinking de same ting!
I was going to give you a clue hursh, it's a word that's very close to me :)
that to6 you mean mool?
if you can't play with words, then eye no knot watt els two dew
yep
wait so is that your name? i mean the singular of to6?
yes
or is it close to you for some other reason
oh well i did not know that!
so now i do i guess
another phantom: habit
:)
This is out of sight. OK, bigman pygmy. a Phantom Obama wis waiting.
isobats like to drink in isobars

3B and 4 letters ago
and take a nice hot isoba4
hurshy you disappeared earlier
yes, lunch was over
hursh is actually an amateur illusionist
tx Kap, that was my last 7
now you see her, now you don't
also phantom botany
phantom botany, with the plants are just a little weird
lol, was just going to ask if kap knew she was posting the i7
and beagle
so many phantoms today, so little time
she was just saying she had to be careful a little earlier ;)
oooh i got a be5/20
very timely of you to say that hoke...well actually not, already got that way earlier :)
well Jimmy would be happy hursh
I was cluing it too overtly. And I was thinking about botany.
There is an he4 that is going to annoy everyone.
I mean, who doesn't think about botany?
didn't annoy me any more than the f or the p :)
arrrggh what can this L be
Don't know much about history, don't know much about biology...
Which l?
l6?
whichever L i am missing. have le6/24 and 3 le4
either one or the other :)
oHO another le6 yes
are there any M6?
yes
Someone I think who knows something about law. I think it's archaic
then i need that one also
phantom: magpie
i had that one kap, it was the music one i had missed
I always think of the anagram ice cream :)
Oh, thanks!
my last M was scottish, like most of the words
is it ma or mi? please not mh
over half of my remaining words are 5s
mi
ma5
I just got that like 2 minutes ago
actually, I had a mi6 too
ahh thanks
I don't know which was last
oh, hope it ended well for you hoke
but did you like how I used the def in the hint?
well just found my last m's too, so it's all marvellous
9 to go
of course hoke
listing for last 4
do you want me to guess them, hurshy?
I believe they all being with a letter on this grid
well one was bi5/18 so i got that now
you can guess others if you like. B S T
oh, had that one
there's a weird th5
and 2 weird ta5
only have one of the ta5
gonna guess your B is a 5 but I don't know what word lengths you have left
ah, missing the ta5s...well one of them now
two fives and a 6, and now we know one of the fives is ta5
and now have both of those...so 2-2-2
GOT it
of course my last T was a regular 4
hagis with one g...because it's not that good :)
i have just one bi6, the sister wives thing
weird sh6
so if that is the only b6 then i do need a 5
sh5?
i have a normal sh6 but not a weird one
so that must be right
it's apparently an alt sp of an sh5 not in grid
got the B
ah, well got the s tx
bishep - a cool cat clergy
so you are done, hurshy?
it's not shebam
it's jewish
sounds like a Cyndi Lauper song
not shebat or shibat
are you really talking about she bop, moo? 🤣
the last letter is silent, hurshy
phew, thanks, got it at last
well that is good, all four of those were weird.
I am hoke :)
now that song is stuck in my head
yep...that happens
4 to go
what was Jewish? Did I miss it?
sh?
