Just getting started, and exhausted. 2 loads of laundry, 8 jars of homemade butternut squash soup, 2 cups of homemade almond-coconut creamer, vacuuming, set up next month's bills, and create individual boxes for different people to hold things they get after I'm gone. OKAY, when I see it in type I think, no wonder I'm tired! LOL!

oh you know, as we get older. If I have stuff sorted before I go, then it will be much easier on my husband and daughter. It's like making arrangements in advance. We already have our Wills done, advance medical directives, etc. I'm 69 now, and the average age in my family for death is 55, so I'm in bonus time! I like to be prepared. :)
I hope that doesn't sound too morbid. Death is freely talked about in my family.

literally just got off the phone with someone in her business and now I have to snail mail them the POA before they'll even talk to me.
Both my mom and dad either gave us stuff we wanted before they died, or put posti-notes on various items. Of course, they both got a heads up ahead of time, so they were prepared. WHAT? What kind of business? Just curious.
so, my mom had a stroke in Jan '23 and I took over stuff. apparently her part D somehow lapsed in Oct. '22 and we have been paying her $ since for meds. The nursing home told me they could help sign her up for part D, which they did, but now she is being penalized for not having it since Oct. 22.
my oldest bro is 60 so none of us know anything about how medicare works and we have no idea what happened in Oct. '22 to cancel what she had.
so I just called to see what the penalty amount is and they won't tell me until they get the POA in the mail.
GRRR... I feel your frustration. I'm lucky enough to still be on my younger husband's insurance, but I had to file with Medicare so they would not penalize me. Did you try asking Medicare what the records show as to why her Part D was cancelled? I thought it was taken out automatically. Oh, of course, they have to see the POA first. I'd send it with tracking or certified or something like that. I'm sorry you are having to deal with all this.
have to say, 69 looks pretty young to me
nan, you are my inspiration. It would be nice to make it another 10 years, but I do have health conditions that can go south at any moment. I'm grateful for the years I've had.
I also thought it was taken out automatically. also, we did get a letter in like Jan or Feb that her dental was being canceled for non-pmt but we had never seen any bills or anything prior to that and she's not the type to sign up for e-bills.
I know one of the local banks she used closed so I wonder if she got a new bank account then and didn't change over the dental and drug. but luckly she does have the other stuff going in and coming out.

hokie, once they get the POA they should be able to answer questions and help you straighten it out. Best case scenario, they goofed up on their end. Thanks for the care. I'm doing pretty good now, and I work hard at staying as healthy as possible. But if I do get a heads up for like, 6 more months, all bets are off. Bring on the wine, chocolate, and junk food! lololol
but we have been cleaning out her house for a few months because they moved there over 50 years ago and now trying to get medicaid since her money is almost gone from paying assisted living and nursing home since the stroke. I tell you, that's another beuracratic ordeal.
luckily my bros and I have agreed on everything in the house. no one has wanted anything someone else did.
Oh, my in-laws are dealing with that. They are in their 80s and both of them have serious health problems. Like your mom, their money has run low because of health care costs.
oh well, I need to go get a run in. it's supposed to rain, but it's so hot/humid out I think I'd rather run in the rain.
