Hi Sprite, and all
hiya jbp!
hello beautiful people, * hugs * sprite, * hugs * jbp, long timee no see.
and when i disappear i 30 minutes it's because of a huge squirrel in the form of my dinner. RIGHT???
how are you today sprite?
hello my dear friend!
*giggles* Right! I read it. This time.
I am getting sick again, grrrrrr. Inflamed throat, slight temp, all over tired and blech. Rob is not feeling very chipper either. I just arranged for the groceries to be delivered.
got a definite order from pain doc today. he wants me in for the extra two days to consolidate what we have achieved with my pain control.
Caya has our car, hers is being repaired... so either Rob has to go on his bike, or the store will deliver. Guess what. I am letting them do the work :D
sounds very good, honey. Am so glad he is keeping a close watch over you.
oh no darling. what the heck is going on over there? do i have to come over and tell the weather off?
yes yes yes yes yes!
good decision, let them do it.
and don't worry, nothing big going on. Just flu.
aww honey. that's ghastly. so much of it going around this year too.
well, to be honest, I cannot expect my body to adapt to the crazy weather here. One day, it is 18 C, next it literally freezes, next storm and rain all day.
it's too much sweetheart. i so feel your pain, as you well know.
it is okay, sweetie, nothing major. Just nasty.
so how are you holding up there?
i know honey.
doing quite well. managed to do my upper limb program this morning too. i walk two laps around the ward 5-6 times per day. physio says that's 600 metres. so i am doing 3-31/2 kilometres/day. doc is impressed. he says that is way more than he does.
you are going so strong! Am so darn proud of you.
the hardest part is knowing when to sit down and take a break. the mechanical pain in the hips can be nasty. fortunately because it is also a orthopedic ward the corridors have chairs everywhere so patients can sit and rest.
ikr? So hard to know when to push and when to pauze.
yeah. recognising that limit is hard. i am starting to realise that even if it is ONLY 10 more steps, it's better to sit, rest, and then do the steps properly.
oh for pete's sake. how did i miss the italian greeting?
yes. And to keep listening to your body.
oh that is a hard one to spot. Too many vowels.
like adieu. Also a tough one to spot.
* blinks * i've found all the e words. how on earth?? never mind!
oh and adios
even your brain is running strong, lol
maybe strong, not very fast lolol
lol
I had to get up at 3.30 am, couldn't lie down any longer. I made myself a cup of tea with a lot of honey and worked on the jellyfish. Then Nero thought it was high time he went for a walk, lolol. Silly dog.
what??? i hope you didn't comply.
not at that time. But at half past five he was so insistent it woke Rob up. So then I went.
oh for heavens sake! get a cork for him..lol
*giggles* He was like: Hey, you are up, right? So get with the program!
ikr? they can be so annoying sometimes... but i guess like us, if our sleep is disturbed, then our kidneys and bladders go go into daytime mode.
yeah and he gives us so much joy and laughter and all good things
exactly.
scart
close, but not there
whew, not a word
DINNER HERE!!. catch you later if you are still here. xxxxxx
enjoy, darling. *hugs*
fireflies and poofing
Happy Thanksgiving. I'm in the home stretch. Dinner rolls are rising.
happy thanksgiving
What are your plans today TO?
staying home, i have some sort of respiratory thing. making a steak later if appetite.
you are hosting again. that's nice.
Sorry you're not feeling well
it's okay. was traveling on a bus with folks who fell ill like dominoes. so all in all, need to be home.
actually feeling a lot better
ty
Ever since COVID I am uncomfortable in places with a lot of people. And I try not to share elevator rides anymore.
i hear that. however, part of a group tour.
Yeah, you have to roll the dice in situations like that.
I didn;t even think about it until after the fact.
the pace was fast and that did not help, along with beong out all day in public and using pbnlic facilities. No amount of lysol hand wipes can overcome that.
anyway, good to be home in one's one bed and not ready to leave yet.
bbl
hello all
hello. phantom marsupial.
there's no u phantom denied:
ah, GTFO 🤣
and Happy Thanksgiving
well if you put it that way
what are you doing today, ruru?
me? walking the dogs (we've have nice weather) and cooking for myself. I have a nice bottle of Champagne opened from last night's dinner. I had a friend coming but she got sick with something, so that's not happening now
are your kids coming home for the holiday?
Phantom denied 🤣🤣
oh, you and Temple Owl are friends? 😠A nice weather dog walk sounds good. we have rain and clouds, supposed to be sunny at 3. the boys are here. played some poker and yahtzee last night.
getting ready to start the turkey. haven't made one in like 30 years.
no TO doesn't like me much...
turkey is easy to cook.. you just have to keep it moist and not overcook it
yeah, I'm going to try this mayo rub that's supposed to keep it juicy and moist. but I have to do it when no one is watching.
I only got a 10 pounder so should be easy to deal with
that mayo rub works with chicken so is should with turkey.
wow.. 10 lbs and you're putting it in now?
isn't that too early?
no, I'm still in my pj's and on my computer
would you all put it in a roasting bag or not with the mayo rub?
no roasting bags for me ever
my mom always used one
until she started just doing a breast in the crock pot, which always turned out great
we're doing thanksgiving tomorrow, since our son in law is working today (hospital lab tech)
so everyone coming to your new house, lindy?
our 2 daughters, son in law, and their good friend, so there will be 6 of us
nice
I do stuffing on the side. I stuffed my turkey with celery, carrots, a cut up apple and a cut up onion
We're going to a restaurant!!!
I rub it with butter and put butter under the skin
yeah, my mom always did celery and an onion. we call stuffing dressing and do it in a pan
I generally do stuffing on the side but stuff it with some stuffing and then herbs, and onions.
My family always called it stuffing. Dressing goes on salad 😊
I haven't cooked a turkey in a long time though.
well, in the mountains it's dressing
and I was looking at a pioneer woman recipe and she called it dressing, so I guess just in the country it's called that.
in Oklahoma it is called dressing
and I can't eat turkey stuffed with gluten. you know that, molly!
I think if it's in a turkey it's stuffing and if it's in a pan it's dressing
we call it either. I think of it as stuffing if it's actually in the bird, and dressing if it's made separately... though I've never actually made it in the bird.
it helps keep the bird moist in the bird
It's stuffing because it's what I would have stuffed in the bird but I didn't want to make everyone sick
sick how?
salmonella
that's why they say not to do it in the bird
Bacteria can survive in stuffing that has not reached 165 °F, possibly resulting in foodborne illness
oh.. wow.. I've always done it that way.. never had a problem
I used to always stuff the turkey but when that stuff came out about how it could make people sick I started making it on the side
that makes sense to me.. I guess with the changes in processing birds it's more dangerous
I love my instant-read thermometer, I use it for most meals to make sure everything is as hot as it should be.
yeah, I have 3 of those, one on the camper and two here.
ok, first pass done. 70 left and HOET. Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Americans!
phantom: sexier
phantom: macy's lol
lol
i am feeling challenged by the A words

The original Temptations are not all still alive
i can't seem to build any more on that one, ru
2:17 am here, going back to bed .Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate
oh i see, just one original but he has new people with him
there've been dozens of Temptations over the years
yeah i'm seeing that! crazy
the broadway show "ain't too proud to beg" is amazing and it's all about the temptations
Ls Lambasted!
I have all the p's now
#winning
well clue some more weird ones then!
Re the stuffing: the issue is that when the turkey is done, often the stuffing is still undercooked and that is when people get salmonella….so better to put the stuffing into its own pot. At least that is what i recall.
Any clues for the 7s or 8 welcome.
phantom: eclat
Ws Whacked!
wishing you all a peaceful and happy thanksgiving
ta8/40
and you, welki
phantoms: resist, rascal
thanks, hurshy
It depends on how you make your stuffing. A lot of people put eggs in it, thus the need for proper cooking time
thanks phae - is it weird or normal?
don't have it yet
oh
giving stats to mkg
it's a monkey sort of
hmm, not tamarind
ty for stat. Looking.
Is it two words together?
only 40, so all one point tiles
oh haha i had the 7 but i thought it was a comparative so i hadn't done the plural
phantom: parcel
approved phantom
stop with yer gatekeeping
no I won't stop
well i cant figure out the ta 8. Not seeing it at all.
it's so rud
rude
pavement material, plural + more like that makes 7, plural for 8
Got the ta words! Ty very much.
people do a lot more ruder stuff around here than that
yeah well people also murder people, but that doesn't mean if i only rob a store i'm not gonna get arrested
it does if you are in SF or Oakland
*eyeroll*
Love this chat.
the point is that other people's poor behavior is not an excuse for behaving poorly yourself
speaking of poor behavior have NONE of these awful billionaires read or seen Christmas Carol???
I am not behaving poorly. .. I'm just having fun with Hokie
i would feel better if i heard directly from hokie that she assesses the funness of this the same as you do lol
look below.. she does
Really? Pretty sure she'd jump right in if she were offended.
I don't complain about A's Admonished, B's blasted or other silly stuff.... I don't make a big deal about anything other than personal attacks here.. but that's just me
aha, i see
before i arrived
I like your "approved phantom" today ru.
As if you needed my approval! ;)
thanks champ.. i'll take it
any clues for the se/40
sounds like an office assistant
Exactly!
Missing a syllable
gtg dry my hair, ttfn all, and sorry for being overprotective re: hokie and phantoms, lol
the s's are killing me
ty
yeah.. back off hurshy :D
LOL, I have a very thick internet skin. You can't offend me. Also, I wouldn't have told him to GTFO if we weren't joking. Also, I knew he would have no idea what that meant. 😜
No kidding. You aren't a wallflower. You can certainly stand up for yourself!
oh.. i figured that one out hokie
potty mouth
did you google?
Current Temptations on the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade as we speak!
no.. i'm not that dumb
<-----Wondering what else will go wrong with today's dinner.
you must be on a delay, champ
that's a bad attitude bea
Really, people here do not need to be "protected". Trust me, they all speak out when they don't like something.
that was like an hour ago here
I think Champ is in a different time zone
.. and some of them speak out when they shouldn't...
I detest parades.
Even when you can wear your KFC crocs?
What about parades inspires detest?
Ha, ru
Crowds and noise, molly
Okay, don't ever go to New York then. It is full of both.
it's hard to do calculus problems on the sidewalk with all that noise?
Exactly!
*waves to dart* Happy THanksgiving
Ru, it's not a bad attitude. No oven.
I'm in the Central time zone. Texas.
yeah, that's a big problem, bea
FW
Way to go, phae!!!
ty
Happy Thanksgiving!
And to you!
omg.. go out to a restaurant bea
I do a lot of stove top cooking but a holiday feast without an oven is impossible
Instapot Thanksgiving!
A holiday feast with one oven takes some juggling.
I've got the turkey breast in the slow cooker.
Will put the stuffing in the roaster.
wow. what a time for your oven to go out
The rest will be done on the stove top.
Way to regroup, Bea!
I had to get a new oven right before Thanksgiving two years ago. That made Christmas pretty thin
oh yeah.. I hate it when appliances go at the most inopportune time
IMy dishwasher went out one year. Thankfully it was AFTER dinner.
And my meat thermometer died on a Christmas resulting in over cooked expensive beef tenderloin
ok, my recipe says to use a roasting rack. I don't have one of those!
THANK YOU for the reminder! We need a new one. It's off by about 5-7 degrees.
Doing dishes by hand when you aren't used to is a huge pain in the ass
guess it will just go straight in the pan
talk about six degrees of separation
Do you have a cookie rack?
yeah, but not sure it's oven safe. it might be coated
I got a turkey roasting pan a few years ago that came with a rack. I love it.
she's gluten free no cookies
hokie, crinkle tin foil in the bottom of the pan to keep the turkey from sitting in its juices
The rack just keeps it out of the juices and makes for easier removing the bird.
could put it in my toaster over air fryer basket I reckon
Carla, just line the pan with a lot of heavy duty foil. You can also lay it on a layer of carrots and celery.
Also, could you put veggies under it? Carrots, potatoes, onions.
Lay the turkey on the carrots and celery
also still have some roasting bags
get a turkey futon
Are sexiest and sexier approved phantoms?
you all are like the butterball hotline
yes.. those are approved ori
If my vote counts, yeah!
I do have some carrots but they are shredded. have celery and onions.
There ya go!
use those
a bed of celery and onions would be the way to go
(you might even use some potatos to prop up the bird, and use them for soup tomorrow)
butterball hotline HA
welk
owl
" ... call the butterball hotline if you need to get basted..
there is actually a butterball hotline
is that 1-800 Rosie O''Donnel?
it's on their website. I'll let you decide.
Must suck to be a hotline person. You know it's the same questions over and over.
pretty sure America's test ktichen had a slow cooker turkey breast recipe
I wonder what the dumbest question was for the hotline?
Nothing would surprise me.
i am sure there is a website for that
Bet it has to do with something in the cavity.
hotline caller: how much did the turkey monica wore on her head weigh?
The turkey neck!
That scene grosses me out every time I see it welki!
"which way do the legs go?"
There's a funny video featuring a boy pulling the turkey neck out of the cavity and mistaking it for another body part.
yeah, i can see where it could be disturbing
I thought the thing on Monica's head was a desk?
Yes! I love that video. He is so funny.
I also like the one where they cook a cornish hen in the turkey then make a fuss tht the turkey was pregnant.
<-----Not a Friends fan. Never got the appeal.
https://tinyurl.com/mvx4vk7v
and a happy turkey day to all
Speaking of pregnant...I have a friend that adopted a dog earlier this month. She'd just had a litter. On Tuesday, she was clearly in distress, so they took her to the vet, and before the vet could even see her, out popped a puppy! She had another littler of 8 pups! The shelter missed that she was pregnant again when they adopted her out.
oh my god are you kidding me?
Nope. She's back with a foster who deals with moms/pups, and they'll get her back once she's weaned them.
o.O
that's horrible. did they tell her the dog had been spayed?
No, they told her it was too soon to do it due to the previous litter.
how is that possible? unbelievable
I got nothing!
poor girl - she must be so tired
or she's a little doggy slut :D
The price of being a ho!
HA!
she probably couldn't reach up for the condoms on the counter
Million dollar idea ru! Doggie condoms!
Ruff & Ready :D
....and there it is!!!!!!!!! FABULOUS!
<--- on his game today
For sure
Marketing problem: Who would want to put them on?
well.. I need to straighten up the kitchen.. have a great holiday to all of you who celebrate.
You too!
Ha! Just overheard my husband asking one of the kids for a new meat thermometer
For Christmas.
ok, it's in the oven! just a bit later than I'd planned.
but mr. homie is playing golf so was always planning on around 3pm.
My son is on the course as we speak! Glad you've got it worked out.
Thanksgiving. Men play golf and football, women cook til they drop.
well, we'll see how it turns out. and now I gotta figure out how to bake other stuff in my toaster oven. wish I had a double oven.
Same! Next house will def have double ovens
I time it so the turkey comes out an hour before we eat and then all the other dishes (pre-made) go in to warm up. The turkey needs to rest for an hour anyway.
One year I had a boatload of people over, so made a lot the day before, then heated in batches in the oven, and kept warm on the grill outside. Worked like a charm.
mine says to rest it for 20 min, but my mom used to do at least an hour
Depends on how big it is. Mine is 18-20 pounds.
Using the grill is a great idea Champ. I would if I had a gas grill. I prefer charcoal.
we only have a griddle
It definitely saved the day.
My nephew is a deep fried turkey guy. He isn't this year though since his Dad passed last week. They are keeping the holiday low key.
I'm not on board with the deep fried turkey. It's ok, but not my thing. Going to be a difficult holiday for him. I'm sorry to hear that.
Thanks Champ. His Dad was struggling with Alzheimer's but it was a peaceful passing and they are doing a good job of leaning on each other.
When my dad passed (15 years ago) it was right before Halloween. Thanksgving was WEIRD, but we had a nice time together, and telling "Joe" stories. Better together, for sure.
Holidays the first year after you lose someone close are tough.
Yep.
yeah, I need to check in with my cousins. my aunt that just died was a big cook, always overdid it at thanksgiving and christmas.
That'll be hard for them.
yep
Do you watch "The Bear"? Now THAT is overdoing it at Christmas.
I don't
I watched a couple of episodes. I need to get back to it.
one time way back before kids (the last time I made a turkey), mr. homie had to work on Fri so we stayed home. My cousin lived very close by and they had to stay in town too, so they came over and two of mr. homie's brothers came to town. anyhoo, there were 6 people and my cousin brought a 2qt pitcher of gravy.
It is a very intense show. I am looking forward to the next season. It seems so long between seasons these days.
Okay, that is a shit load of gravy.
yes it's such a tease. Yellowstone is the worst for that
i don't eat gravy. except the elvis presley favorite one when absolutely necessary.
she learned it from her mom
Never had Elvis gravy
maybe that is just regular gravy? TO does live in philly I think, where they call spaghetti sauce gravy.
Done. I hope you all have a wonderful day!
well done. you too!
elvis' gravy goes with his favorite meat loaf. comabies beef and chicken stock with seasoning and pureed mirepoix
not thickened with starch
It is thickened with flour roux.
just finished steaning the sweet potatoes. I will bake them with orange juice, some butter and some brown sugar.
ty bea i do not recall that
so you have made this?
That is how I make my brown gravies.
I can not use anything with corn products. So corn starch is out.
doesn't sound that different than my mom's, except maybe the mirepoix. she put that in dressing (though we never called it that) but not in gravy.
it helps to flavor and thicken
clarify, we never called it mirepoix
I put mirepoix in about everything I make.
getting ready to make some for my dressing
i do recommend it easy and quick and no meat drippings needed.
but i prefer ketchup on meat loaf. i hold it as a vegetable.
I'm just using trader joe's gluten free turkey gravy. had it last year and it's really good.
i saw that.
yeah, I would put the gravy on the mashed potatoes with the meatloaf
Mirepoix 🤣 chopped vegetables
Onions, celery and carrots
the only turkey option they had was a half. too much. i have a turkey breast in the freezer but it will stay there.
I was going to just do onion and celery but I reckon I could put some of those shredded carrots in too. will saute in butter too.
Peppers, onions and celery is the holy trinity
neighbor said he will bring some over so i am making potatoes. but i really have no appetite.
i like some things in stuffing. like mushrooms. also cranberries. but not meat.
church made hundreds of dinner trays. my job was making stuffing.
back to work...
my mom always put a few bits of turkey in
bye bea
bye carla, good luck
