yeah it was heartbreaking. He was stiff as a board, too afraid to move even a muscle. Had been terribly abused. Now... he is a happy, playful, sometimes even headstrong dog. And the sweetest in the world.

Was Kaplan alerting us about "paisan", and if so, why, given that it isn't even in the grid? It appears that it means "friend" in Italian, and according to Collins is used in British English to mean "a fellow countryman", and in the U.S. to mean "an Italian-American" (with no suggestion that it is considered offensive). But hey, I've learned something - though odds are I will forget.

I have news that I fear is too good to be true. Last week I applied to a 3 week artists' residency on Nantucket Sound, as accepted. I spoke with them and paid the tuition for 3 weeks of solitude, art-making and writing in solitude. Husband had to let it sink it that this did not include him.
