Good morning, Babblers. :)
hi crossy....
morning crossy
:)
hi hursh...
pen! crossy! hurshy!
carla!
hail, hail, the gang's all here
some of us may be a bit groggy tho (me)
are the top E's both EX?
yes
I'm groggy too. woke up at 4:20 and fell back asleep around 7 maybe.
i didn't get to sleep until after 3....
eek
i had a bad night thursday night and i think i'm still catching up
coffee for most, tea for the rest!
welki!
hi welki....
I will take a cuppa, please. :)
we're all tired - a little baileys in the cup shouldn't hurt :)
I poured what was left and it was like shot glass size.
we're doing a couples golf thing this afternoon, so I gotta wake up.
we had our wind down tournament yesterday - was a ton o' fun and the dinner afterwards was pretty tasty
we have that one like end of Oct
I have dug out our old perculator for my beloveds morning coffee. It is an all-glass FireKing from 1955. Makes the best coffee!
wow
hokie, who is better at golf, you or your husband?
we're played this tournament in the snow - which is why our course's last official day was yesterday
snow? wow. do you play with non-white balls if there is snow so that you can see them more easily?
well, in general he's much better. he's been playing since a teen. however, he is a lefty who learned righty because that was the clubs they had at his house. He switched to lefty a couple of years ago. I have only beat him once outright since I started. he usually gives me one shot on each hole.
that's what we've done - bright ones (not that it helps my game any)
I normally play with colored balls and I've discovered orange/yellow/red are tough this time of year with the leaves.
neon pink
probably what I'll use today
yep, i played with bright pink and white yesterday
I have more pink in my folage then fall colors.
today's couples theme is dress like a crayon, so same color top and bottom. I'm going to have to go with pink and they don't match great.
bea!
I do have a dress that's a swirly mix of pinks and purples that I could be the crayon you get when you melt them together.
wouldn't blue be easier, jeans and a blue top
- you'd have it in the bag if you were able to make yourself a crayon pointed hat
name that proper noun! tea brand
Dress up the golf club grips to look like crayons in a box.
Lipton!
ding ding ding!!!
that might be the very first time I got one of your NTPNs first!
really? well congrats :D
my life is complete :D
Yaa for Welki!
supposed to be 82 here so jeans are out
I do have a blue golf skirt and blue top so thought about that
if you have a cricut, maybe you could whip up crayola labels for your shirts
or, you could do like me and just say, 'really? we were supposed to dress up today?"
unless they don't let you play if you fail to dress according to the theme
lol, I always dress up for stuff when it's requested/allowed. if you can't play good you should look good.
I have a silhouette. I should have certainly made crayon wrappers.
you're a good sport, carla
i think one of my sisters was a crayon once for halloween when we were little
I've def seen it as a costume
i just remembered a dream i had last night. it was a nice neutral one, thank goodness. i was in a library reading one of my favorite books, the Nine Tailors, and there was some teen boy there wishing he had something good to read, and i was reading my own copy and so i gestured toward the fiction section and said there was a copy there and he should try this one and he went and got it and i had the feeling he was really going to like it and i felt pleased.
ah....Dorothy Sayers....Loved her Wimsey books....
it takes place on the fe4 so maybe that is what jogged my memory just now since i'm working on F
phantom - faction
and fraction
yeah that ending and raptor, captor, have been bugging me
and caption...
I was just telling mr. homie about my dream. I was at a restaurant with a lady playing a bluegrass song on a guitar and she couldn't remember the words so I started singing it. that song is now stuck in my head.
i'll bite - which song?
that would be a nightmare for me... ;o)
i love bluegrass. it's basically the only thing in the country music realm that i do like.
Blue Moon of Kentucky
ohh, bill monroe!
ding ding ding
hahahaha - now it's in MY head for the day!
I grew up in an old-time bluegrass household. ever since I dropped my sirius/xm I've had it on a bluegrass FM station in my car.
phantoms: elan, eclat
i love the 'new' bluegrass talent - aj lee, sierra hull, molly tuttle
huge billy strings fan here
he's amazing
my son & I saw him in Feb in concert. he's turned into a grateful dead/phish act with the fan base. neither of us were expecting that.
*heavy things*
the appeal is understandable - brings folks back to the music basics
not only is he a beyond incredible musician, everyone in his band is great
yep, and he seems to be a genuinely nice guy
4th row grey!
bottom row grey!
I saw his mom just OD'd this summer
i like marcus king, too
ohh, yeah, that was sad
Chris Stapleton is about the only current country I like, and his bluegrass band the Steeldrivers were great too.
i hear you - not crazy about the new country artists, and the ones that use auto-tune make me want to throw something at the radio/television
*mental note: do not use auto tune around welki*
yeah, that's a good plan. misophonia to the max.
i don't actually play any instruments. just making the mental note in case i ever take it up
(and if you kick my seat on the plane or at the theater, i'm likely to turn around and punch you in the throat. LOL)
I was learning fiddle for a while but gave it to my brother. it's really hard.
i still play guitar/uke every day, even if only for a few minutes
my other brother plays mandolin well but wouldn't even try fiddle (which is literally the same without the bow)
The fiddle/violin is a very hard instrument to learn. I was in the rent instruments to school kids business for a while and it's the number one return.
that brother also played the standup bass. my dad played guitar and banjo. my brother I gave the fiddle to has taken up guitar in recent years.
I did get to where I could play a song or two with it but could never do like a jam session or anything.
i have a banjo i have yet to learn to play - maybe soon. i can play basic dulcimer, but very basic
I can only play the flute but that doesn't fit in bluegrass well
one of my girls plays viola - she learned ashokan farewell for me :)
my two great nephews taught themselves to play guitar in high school and now (in their early 20s) have taken up the banjo....they really like bluegrass....
i have an uncle who is a retired music theory prof, and he could play piano, guitar, banjo, trumpet... idk if there were more...
heh - not a huge leap from flute to pennywhistle, maybe you should play celtic music :D
and celtic music isn't a big leap from bluegrass. or it's really the other way around.
i am a recorder player....alto....have played guitar since i was 8....but now I play recorder duets with a friend on a regular basis....
well there you go - off to the pennywhistle store!
I do still have my recorder from elem. school (back then we got real ones, not the cheap ones like my kids got) that I can play too. I assume that's a soprano? have never played it with anyone else but can pick out tunes by ear. haha.
i enjoyed recorder so then later i got a tenor recorder to try. but when i try to play it my cat Opie glares at me. so i haven't really been playing it.
lol
oh, today is winston's birthday
happy birthday winston!
yes, soprano is learned in elementary school....i prefer the alto....nicer sound, I think....
the tenor has a very nice sound....
same fingering as the soprano...
but it can be hard to reach all the holes because it's larger
yes...some are built in a more ergonomic way....but my fingers would be too small...
i also play the sopranino...it's smaller than a soprano....
the fingering is the same as alto...
i'm not petite by any means but it's' hard for even me
I guess I should add I can also play the piccolo too. :D
phantom: treacle
nice, carla....in my recorder group (now defunct) we had a few clarinet players who had learned to play the recorder...
I bet that was a party hard group : D
I could actually pick out a tune on clarinet too
the group lasted 17 years....covid killed it....
darn
having been playing with one member regularly for almost a year....having fun with duets...
well i am stalled at 20...taking a break....bye all...

My phantoms today: plinth and treacle.
there's no h in the grid
treacle is ok
Yeah, I don't get how a word can be a phantom when one of it's letters isn't in the grid
Lately I have been having issues reading quite a few of my books. Most of the softcovers in my bookcase were bought in the 70's and 80's, and it seems like the publishers of that time were in love with six-point typeface. To that end, I have slowly been hunting for, and downloading Epub versions of each book for my E-book reader. I recently discovered "oceanofpdf.com" where both E-pub and PDF versions of many older books can be found. I highly recommend the site.
My beloved keeps saying we should get rid of them all as they take up so much space, and that most books we read these days are in digital format anyways, but I cannot let them go. I currently have every single book that I have ever bought or have been given since 1975--the first ones I bought with my own money are Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Golden Apples of the Sun, and Carrie. They are old friends and I cannot part with them. If my son wants to toss them once I am gone, so be it, but for now I am the librarian. Touch them and you get your hand slapped. :)

oops!
my husband and i gave overf 2000 books to a library. the man emptied out his entire mini van and we filled it with books. and we still have too many! i would love to get rid of half of what is left. If you have a friends of the library near you, it is a used book store and the money goes to pay overhead and then to the public libraries here.
oooohhhhhh!!!!!! mkg!!! I wish you lived closer to me!!! We'd take them off of your hands here in a heartbeat!
