12:54 am

has anyone actually used the Z yet?

12:57 am

This is only my third time to play, but it seems to me the z is just to take up space.

12:57 am

Have 60 words, but no Z used

12:59 am

14 words, z used.

1:00 am

just used the Z! (not the first letter)

1:00 am

I suspect the Z is a red herring.

1:00 am

okay what do I know. ;)

1:03 am

have the Z in 3 words so far.

1:03 am

duh. I had already used it twice before I said that. I need to go to bed now. Happy spelling!

1:07 am

How long are these z words?

1:07 am

64 words, 850pts. Stopping now in favor of Harry Potter. :)

1:42 am

Hey elmer, brother-in-law

1:55 am

Since when did indian cease being a word?

2:01 am

The game is just like Scrabble in that it doesn't allow proper nouns.

2:03 am

The proper noun ..z./13 and ..z../28 are proper nouns and should not be legal. The weapon .z../13 is an abbreviation of a weapon, an appreviation of a proper noun, and should not be legal. According to the ENable dictionary, there is a defintion to .z.., and if you can display actual proof, I'd love to see it because Google is not working for my cause.

2:03 am

When it is used generically it isn't capitalized...i.e. indian bread, indian summer, etc.

2:06 am

All of those Indian words are capitalized in my Webster's, for whatever that's worth.

2:33 am

there is a spanish word in this one

2:58 am

More than one Spanish word...

3:12 am

the hairy-nosed dolphin is back again - the words I am learning here...

3:57 am

Learning new words... my very convincing excuse for playing babble! :D Morning all...

4:04 am

sprite - you know how to get the stats, right? can you post them please?

4:07 am

I like to play without stats until I am a good way, so give me a little more time - I'll make the stats in about half an hour, ok?

4:08 am

sprite - sure, whenever, thanks... (I just don't know how to get them)

4:10 am

How nice, my favorite P5 from yesterday is back too ;)

4:18 am

c7/44: Feel good hit of the summer. I was trying to piece this word a couple puzzles ago. Have a fun time trying to decipher the reference. At one point, I believe one of my friends believed this is what the White Album displayed on the cover.

4:19 am

Nosy, very nosy indeed... ;)

4:32 am

Okay, today's babble stats: 8 x 1 7 x 3 6 x 10 5 x 24 4 x 61 --- 99 words --- A -- 13 C -- 27 D -- 9 H -- 4 i -- 4 L -- 3 N -- 5 O -- 5 P -- 4 R -- 11 S -- 10 W -- 4

4:37 am

thanks augurus - a fun clue (couldn't get it, so took a break and got it while I was in the shower!)

4:38 am

thanks sprite - now I know why I was getting stuck so early on - not that many words in today's grid

4:39 am

No, I had the same... usually get about half without really working hard, so when I got stuck at 55, I knew we were in trouble ;)

4:43 am

h5/18 - i thought it was just a car name but I know now it's more than that :-)

4:46 am

I mistyped an A5/12 and got a peculiar A5/30, definition is 'chemical compound that contains the group N3'. Never heard of that one, so it definitely makes my babbling allowed today!

4:49 am

Oh, that name-thing I had with C4/6, first time it popped up in a grid. Never knew it could mean 'a possession; a spear' as well!

5:58 am

It's great what random guessing can get you - R7/32 was too sappy for me to have know.

7:11 am

42 words and im already stuck. :/

7:18 am

Can you skip a day without it affecting your Player Ranking?

7:36 am

I can only find three P words - the last one is driving me mad!

7:37 am

Go stuff that c7/44 up yer nose.:)

7:39 am

same here beepbeep, i have: P4/6 P4/7 P5/14

7:42 am

also missing one i i have: i4/4 x2 i4/5

7:43 am

Rats - looks like we have the same three.

The fourh P is another P4/6

8:05 am

A plea folks ... could the chit chat be kept to a minimum today so I don't have to hide the log? Please?

8:12 am

You could always just not read the log Darleen.

8:15 am

Well gee, leff, I never thought of that. I like to be able to see stats and clues/hints. I'm on sloooooooooooooooooow dialup and it's been taking forever for the page to load not to mention trying to sift through all the junk to find the meat. If you get my drift.

8:16 am

Or copy out the stats from the chat log and use them like i do

8:18 am

I do a stat list then add the ones people have found and cross them off as I go, then go back after I have found them all to check for more hints

The chatting is half the fun for me, especially when my mom and aunt are playing. (Hi Gail and tedybeth!)

8:20 am

Hi, Sarcasticah!

8:28 am

Question: If a c6 w/ lime is good, would a c7 with limes be better?

Now I have that lime-in-the-coconut song stuck in my head...

8:33 am

That second P4 / 6 took me far too long to find! Thanks for the help evanadine. Now I'm going to work on GoBrave's cryptic(?) clue!

8:38 am

sure would GoBraves! plus, i hear itll change your whole latitude. ;)

8:38 am

Soooo, acronyms are allowed? The one I found by chance is REALLY obscure!

8:50 am

good morning:)

8:54 am

9:04 am

Bugs!

9:05 am

Sheeps!

9:07 am

Sigh. 92 and running on fumes. Time for a nap.

9:09 am

repost: 8 x 1 7 x 3 6 x 10 5 x 24 4 x 61 --- 99 words --- A -- 13 C -- 27 D -- 9 H -- 4 i -- 4 L -- 3 N -- 5 O -- 5 P -- 4 R -- 11 S -- 10 W -- 4

9:12 am

Question: Isn't "Endian" a valid word?? Something to do with most significant and lowest significant bits.

9:22 am

unfair - "india," as in "india ink," is not legit... :(

9:22 am

i can only get 2 Ls (both lo4) anyone find the third?

9:26 am

3rd lo4 means bereft

9:27 am

there's a third lo4, Dani.

9:27 am

argh - sorry to repeat again! computer isn't cooperating...

9:29 am

found it. L4/6 x2 and L4/4 x 1

9:40 am

Yes, India and Indian should be accepted words, you'd think.

9:45 am

That's odd. It accepted a car/motorcycle name...Indian is a brand of motorcycle too. >:(

9:47 am

does anyone have a clue on the fourth i? I've got 2 i4-5s and one i4-4.

9:47 am

never mind; just got it :)

9:48 am

there are 2 i4/4's

10:02 am

I have 12/13 a's. Does anyone have the 13th? ac5x2 ad5x2 ai4x2 an4x2 as5x1 az4x1 az5x2

10:06 am

nope, i've got the same ones as you

10:12 am

10:16 am

10:17 am

Just call me "Queen of the 4 letter words"! That seems to be all I can see today. LOL

10:17 am

any clues on the R8 and R7?

10:18 am

Hail queen cherry!

10:18 am

It doesn't accept India or Indian because those letters don't connect in the puzzle.

10:19 am

i've got the ac5 chilly and the ac5 squirrel food but could you give me a hint on the 3rd one?

10:20 am

yeah they do

10:20 am

boober, thanks :) I was missing an ac5/16.

10:21 am

the letters for india and indian do connect, but I guess they're considered proper nouns?

10:21 am

ac5/16- unpleasantly sharp, pungent or bitter to taste or smell

10:22 am

10:28 am

10:29 am

10:31 am

R7 - A translucent yellowish to dark brown resin

10:31 am

you know, i'm no sicko, but this is the second day where a man's "member" is one of the accepted words

10:32 am

Sorry to argue about the indian/india thing...but, you would have to use the same n twice for indian. I'm pretty sure that's why it's not working. And there's too many iii's together to make india work.

10:34 am

sorry judi, but youre wrong on this one. you start with the upper right i, go straight down to the d, then you jump diaginally up + left to the next i and go diagonally down to the left catching the a and the n. its possible, it just doesnt accept it.

10:35 am

start with one of the top i's go to the n on the 2nd row go to the d on the third row go back to the i on the 2nd row go to the a on the third row go to the n on the far left on the 4th row

10:35 am

judi...india and indian are both in the puzzle

10:35 am

yes, captainlou, and it makes me mad because its always one of the first ones i find! :)

10:35 am

My apologies. I see it now.

10:36 am

thanks for the "h" hints - finally got them all! :)

10:36 am

10:55 am

I found one n4/13. I can't believe it accepted THAT. *rolls eyes*

10:58 am

2:47 pm

Sorry, Evanadine. There *are* 10 6-letter words. So does that mean there are actually 100 words, not 99???

Bugs! Which ones are you missing?

3:09 pm

Any hints on which r I'm missing? ri4/ 4 ri4/ 5 x 2 ro4/ 5 ro5/ 12 ro8/ 50 ro4/ 4 ro4/ 5 ro5/ 10 ro7/ 32

3:10 pm

Jessamyn - thanks, but I don't have that r5. I'm woefully lacking in R's.

3:15 pm

aha, just got a bunch... i think i'm just missing an r4/6.

3:16 pm

r4/6 = A mythical bird of prey having enormous size and strength. Plural.

3:18 pm

Sheeps! Dratted sc6 - been looking and looking. Also 2 co6s, apparently, and a ca6.

3:20 pm

Saladspork - the r5 is frequently rubbed on smooth substances to make them less slippery (if that helps!)

3:20 pm

One of the co6's is related to an s4 - think geometry.

3:21 pm

Right... you already got that! Sorry...

3:22 pm

there are 5 co6's

3:23 pm

forget that 5 co6's remark. think my stat generator needs work....

3:23 pm

got it saladspork, thank you!

3:23 pm

Bugs! Sc6 - highly-vesicular (almost "frothy") basalt

3:24 pm

I have 2 co6/24s and one co6/30 (the one related to the co5/18.)

3:26 pm

brandyjack, there better be 5 co6's! I've been looking for the fifth one for an hour.

3:27 pm

Thanks, Sheeps - got it!

3:29 pm

ok, down to C's now... 5 to go...

3:30 pm

I finally finished.. whew!!!!

3:33 pm

I do think the stats are somehow off today. I've got 98 words, and if the stats are correct, I MUST be missing a c4, but I've punched in every c4 combination multiple times now, and I really don't think there is another one. But, just in case... here are all my Cs, in order - anyone have anything I don't show? ca4/7 x2 ca4/6 ca6/27 ca6/24 cl4/6 co4/8 co6/30 co7/44 co5/18 x2 co6/30 co4/7 co5/16 co4/7 x2 co5/14 co4/6 co6/24 co7/36 co6/30 co6/24 cr4/6 cr4/8 cr4/9 cr5/20 Arrrggghhhh! :|

3:34 pm

Torgone - yes, there are 5 co6s.

3:35 pm

Sheeps! There's another Co4 for 8, unless I'm much mistaken.

3:36 pm

jessamyn27, there should be 2 more co6/30's. I have one, a variant of co7/44.

3:36 pm

Nope, I'm not mistaken... look again... :)

3:36 pm

torgone, I know; darned if I can find them, though... ;)

3:39 pm

Thanks, bugs! Can't believe I missed that one given how many variants of it there are! So I'm done (assuming there are only 99 words and not 100). Okay, off to do something useful. :)

3:40 pm

Doogle - after Co7/44, there's one Co5/18, then the missing Co4/8, then another Co5/18.

3:40 pm

Heh... you already got it! Ah, well... ;)

3:42 pm

The weirdest Co6/30 is a variant spelling for "A small foxlike mammal, found in Central Asia." The Co word is also part of its taxonomic name.

3:43 pm

Stop da music!! I have 98 words(including the co4/8 you're missing) but I'm missing one of your co5/18's AND your 3rd co6/30!

3:45 pm

So there *are* 100 words then. Very frustrating - I now have no idea what I'm missing. The 2 co5/18s are very similar, and related. One is the plural of a c4/8, the other the singular of a c6/30

3:45 pm

Ok, I'm stupid. I just need the last co6/30.

3:47 pm

Sorry, I miscounted. There's been some confusion today. I blame Canada.

3:47 pm

Well, so maybe there are 100 words and maybe there aren't. But Evanadine said that he got 99 words with only 9 6s, and there are definitely 10 of them. And the problem is that if anyone who has 99 or 100 words, they've stopped playing. Sigh. Guess we'll find out when the scores are posted.

3:50 pm

torgone - one of the co5/18s is the singular of a plural you already have. The other is the plural of Doogle's missing co4/8.

3:51 pm

argh - sorry to repeat. :( Not looking like I'll get past 96 words, unless remarkable things happen in the next five minutes! ;)

3:55 pm

What are you missing, Jessamyn?

4:00 pm

Right, I have both co5/18's. Doogle was just missing the co4/8 that just drops a letter from the second co5/18. I am still working on the weird co6/30. Sorry again for being a dolt. It's getting close to going home time.

4:01 pm

Any clues out there for the ca6/24?

4:02 pm

torgone, there are 5 co6's. I misinterpreted someone elses found list which mismatched mine. Unfortunately, doublechecking my program kinda runed the game for me....

4:04 pm

Ca6/24 - establishments found in Monte Carlo and Vegas, for instance.

4:04 pm

and i'll bet the one you don't have is an asian mammal (nicely vague hint don't you think?)....

4:07 pm

cheese

4:08 pm

Thanks, brandyjack. I was also led astray by some earlier posts. I just got the 5th co6/30. 99/1212. I guess that's it.

4:09 pm

thank you doogle, i have been seeing a variation of that word all day! now which letter starts mysterious word #100?

4:28 pm

Anyone have a clue for the R8?

4:32 pm

R8 is a compound word of 2 4/5's

4:34 pm

Jfactor, it's a compound of 2 words you probably have. Think AAA

4:42 pm

Thanks U2...i got it:-)

4:43 pm

I have s4 x 7 s6 x 2 what am i missing? thanks

4:45 pm

i'm betting there is 100 words because my stat generator only shows 1 sa/6 and doogle found two.....

4:53 pm

brandyjack, I only see 1 sa/6 in Doogle's 2:59 post...

4:54 pm

could someone give me a hint re the missing s? no. of letters?

4:55 pm

Yep, only 1 Ca6. Does anyone have 99 words with a total other than 1212?

5:00 pm

Uneaixoise, it's a 4

5:01 pm

thanks!

5:01 pm

Can you all tell a newbie what you mean by R8/50 or C7/44?

5:07 pm

First letter; Total letters/Points

5:10 pm

Uneaixoise: one more s4

5:21 pm

Ok...the R's have stumped me today...I'm going crazy trying to figure out Ri7

5:21 pm

i have 2 ca'6s - buildings, and blunt

5:23 pm

JFactor - there's no Ri-7. There's an Ro-7...

5:24 pm

NM. first my dirty screen makes me misread Doogles SC6 as SA6, then he typo's SA6 into CA6....... getting my hopes up.....

5:26 pm

LOL thanks saladspork...I guess I need to figure out what the heck I'm missing.

5:34 pm

let's talk about the a-words now... i'm missing two. i have 8 a5's and 3 a4's... any ideas?

5:39 pm

2 more a4's

5:49 pm

Geez, Endian is a perfectly acceptable nerd term. Very sad.

5:49 pm

done! w00t!

norn?

6:22 pm

Uneaixoise: missing s4/4 pl n for A cluster of sporangia borne on the underside of a fern frond. or A reproductive structure in certain fungi and lichens.

6:26 pm

got all the s's, thanks--now looking for 3 more c's! :-)

6:30 pm

did anyone else have something weird happen to their ranking from yesterday to today? I slipped from 20 something to 60 something and I don't see how . . . just curious

6:32 pm

Brandyjack - It wasn't a typo. Somebody asked about the Ca6 as well , which was what I was writing about in that post.

6:33 pm

Uneaixoise> It has to do with the large numbers of new players i think. Less than 100 last weekend, now almost 500.

6:35 pm

Uneaixoise - I've already written to Jamie about the stats thing. I slipped from 32nd to 65th, then to 74th, all during a time when I got 2 completions, a 17th highest score and a 20th highest score. I know that this huge influx of people is adding a lot of people who are scoring very well, but that still doesn't explain how one's ranking can plummet like that when one is posing high scores. I'd suggest writing in a comment - the more people he hears from, the more likely it is that he'll figure out the problem (if there is one).

6:36 pm

Doogle - Do you only have 1 CA6? I have ca6/24 and ca6/27.

dacron?

6:37 pm

brandyjack, i know the number of players has gone through the roof but when newbies who score considerably less are ranked higher, something doesn't add up (pun intended!)

6:40 pm

thanks, Doogle

6:48 pm

Brandyjack - ca6/24 and ca6/27 is correct. I posted all 10 6s at 2:59.

6:59 pm

aaaahhhhhh, i finally got the last c6!!!

7:01 pm

I think there is definitely a problem in the rankings. I am quite new (this is only my fourth -- maybe fifth-- puzzle), but I am already ranked #8? I mean, I've done pretty well, but I haven't even had a single completion!

7:11 pm

ok, I'm way behind. any clues on the 2nd i4/5? Thanks I feel like I have tried everything

7:21 pm

This is my 5th day - my husband found it for me. Bless his heart! How did it become so popular all of the sudden? I am having a blast with it!!

7:29 pm

Whitney Matheson hipclicked it on USA Today's web page.

7:33 pm

I'm glad she did. I hope those that have been playing for some time, don't mind the new comers.

7:37 pm

I kept having to leave. I'm finally down to my last c. I have: ca4x3,ca6x2,cl4,co4x5,co5x4,co6x5, co7x2, cr4x3,cr5. I'm confused by all the earlier postings about what I'm lacking. Help!

7:40 pm

smithchick I have 6 co4s.

7:42 pm

Thx, sfneil

7:45 pm

no problem... I seem to be missing a co6 myself...

7:53 pm

I'm going to assume that the earlier stats of 99 words are correct, because then I can be finished!!! WOOHOO!!!!

7:54 pm

Anyone have clues for Co5 & Co6...I'm as far as I've been since I started 3 days ago...but totally frustrated now:-)

7:56 pm

sorry....I meant Co7.

8:04 pm

There are 2 Co7's. Do you have either of them, jfator?

8:07 pm

yes I have the one that I wouldn't snort about:-)

8:07 pm

having a hard time finding the other though

8:11 pm

jfactor: the other one has several meanings: a long cigar tapered at both ends. Also a luminous halo around a celestial body visible through a haze

8:11 pm

the other co 7 is a plural of a co 6

8:12 pm

oops - the C7 is plural of C6/24

8:13 pm

or plural for a kind of beer

8:14 pm

Thanks so much Tedybeth and Jax:-)

8:16 pm

LOL, JAX !! may not be in the dictionary, but probably more well known!!

8:22 pm

any help on the 2nd i5?

8:25 pm

which one Jax?

8:27 pm

the one I have was the easy one, at least to me, related to a thought, don't know the other one

8:30 pm

JAX -- I have i4 x 4 ---- no 5's at all. Didn't the stats say a total of 4 'i' words??? did I miss something?

8:31 pm

how about this one Jax: "Rainbow: iridescent"

8:35 pm

Teddybeth, sorry it was an i4/5. Jfactor, I have one with that def with 4 points, is there another similar one with 5 pts? hmmmm

8:36 pm

sorry, got it. Duh

8:37 pm

that one should be worth 5 points

8:45 pm

Got the other co7... thanks Jax!

9:08 pm

I have the 99 words but are there 100 words?

9:27 pm

Finally hit 99 and am hoping that's all! :) Good night, folks

9:30 pm

Extra post to add - I got 1212 too, so I'm thinking 99 is all. Phew! ;)

9:33 pm

done . . . whew!! night all

10:13 pm

Okay... I am at 66 words and I have been on and off all day (though, in my defense, I have a 4-year old!!!) and I AM SPENT and going to bed 11:11... everyone make a wish! Good luck to the rest of you in further time zones. :)

11:13 pm

now at 99/1212, so I, too, am assuming I'm done. yippee!

11:49 pm

Trying for my first completion... I am missing an ac5/16 (I have the "bitter" one) also ca4 (I have 4/6 and 4/7x2) and co5 (I have 5/16 and 5/18x2) Would love some clues.

11:52 pm

Found ac 5/16. Now missing di 5/16.

11:53 pm

for the ac5's, you also need 'to grow cool', and 'squirrel food'

11:54 pm

there are only 3 ca4's

11:57 pm

for the co5/16, skin for the di5/16, 80's music that is universally hated. Except by me. I still love the stuff. Saturday Night Cowboy?

11:57 pm

Hm.. Arrived to find 12 minutes left. At least I get in on the beginning of the next one. :)

12:00 am

thanks brandyjack - so close
