Yes it does, Pugs..not so much the light as in S.A.D..but just in general not being able to get outside and go for walks or getting into the garden to pot about in the soil..just doing the same routine of going to parent helping them coming home and staying in all day does my head in..lol
this has been a hard winter--I know just how all that is---the four same walls gets to you after awhile

It's a tough disease to deal with. My parents insisted they could continue living on their own (it was clear they could not, safely) and my Dad insisted he could continue driving (which he could not). Stepping in to manage people's lives when they are in their 80's is not an easy thing to do.

My Dad was discharged from a 4 month stay in hospital 10 days ago. He has mulyiple falls. He is doubly incontinent & my mother just can't manage him. Yet both of them are adamant they want to remain at home. It's horrific.
I use the money to pay for Mom's care in the Merory Unit of Assisted Living
It's hard for the elders to admit they can no longer care for themselves.
I watched my Dad spiral into the darkness of Alzheimer's and my Mom spiral into a pill problem because she couldn't deal with what was happening to my Dad. Horror is the appropriate word.
My Mom is very frail, but with live-in help to cook, clean etc, she can look after her own personal care. My Dad is in need of full time, 24 hour care. They, with financial support from us, could afford one or other. Not both. It's appalling that, in their 80's, after a life-time of paying taxex, they are now frantic about costs.

It is a complicated system that the fiscal crisis has damaged. I think she is worth every penny. I also think she should take the Crown Estate back and watch HMG scream blue murder.
hi bichon, I haven't looked into it in detail so can't say for sure. It is very resource-intensive (you have to put a lot of energy in to get that oil out, and then it needs refining). It also uses a lot of water and sand.

Also it is clear to me that our supplies of fossil fuels are running out. I have looked at this, using industry figures, and all three major fossil fuels - coal, oil, and natural gas - will run out in the next 30-50 years, assuming we continue to use them at present rates. I think fracking is a sign of desperation - eventually we will have to figure out some other way to get energy.

There have been periods of warming and cooling ever since the earth first formed. I am sure that this is the start of the next phase. Many scientists have been predicting an Ice Age.
My mother said we should let China sleep. They are out for world domination. Another reason that I fear for my descendants.
jaxx, there was an article in the popular press about 40 years ago talking about the possibility of another ice age, but aside from nuclear winter, few if any scientists were predicting such a thing. And if you look at historical (and geological) data you can see how anomalous the present warming really is. (I don't have a real ax to grind here, except that I am a scientist, and try to understand the world and what is really going on)
Well Jaxx, they have been saying that about the Chinese for a long time, and so far, they haven't taken over the world.
They are dominating world trade. How many home made items are on shop shelves? Once they have removed competition they will charge what they like.

On a PC you highlight the word list, then right click and it should give you a drop down box that includes COPY. Click on COPY and then go to Lickety's page and follow the BULK/ADD instructions.
You have to right click in the white box and hit PASTE to add the word list there.
ok, i m on a laptop, i just tried to move the list, but it landed on one of the boxes and all the words were in that one box!

and yes welki .. that is always the case... stick is much more fun but if you're stuck in stop and go traffic... yuch ru my audi has this sort of fake shifting thing.. it's automatic but i can sort of override it and kind of shift.. fun, but not really the real thing
