frog, a spur is an over-growth of bone, usually caused by an inflammatory reaction. he fell pretty heavily on it some years ago at work.

will do, pugs. it won't be for some weeks yet. this surgeon is very good, and as such, there is a long wait to see him.
I had a springer spaniel that had spondilytis. He was OK if he didn't bounce around too much, but springer's are notoriously hyperactive, so it was difficult to keep him under control. The vet quoted us £3,800 to operate on him, but said it would only last for about a year and he'd have to have it done again as the growth would come back. Vets certainly know how to squeeze, don't they?
hmmm, much the same cost as a surgeon for humans. if you take into account the cost of hospital bed, nurses, theatre time and equipment and staff, plus the anaesthetist and surgeon's assistant. yup, that's sounds about right.

We can take out health insurance too, and I did have insurance with him but the thing is our insurance companies are notoriously unscrupulous and when it comes to renewing the insurance the following year they take into account any work that has had to be done the previous year and won't cover that ailment. It's an absolute disgrace, it really is
I never had that kind of money and I done most of the shots and care myself, even on my horses when I had them
we've got a charity, the pdsa, who see your dogs and cats for a minimal fee

It also costs £110 for ONE xray! The thing is with our insurance companies you have to pay an excess on any work that has to be done. The excess is usually around £75, so basically, even though you've paid into an insurance scheme they're conning you into paying the first £75 of any procedure. Insurance companies are a rip-off in my opinion
I had a darn mule once, that would tighten up his hide so that when you try giving him a shot the needle would bend--lol
they are a godsend, my last dog had a tumour removed by them, don't know what i'd have done otherwise
ditto diane. we have the rspca...it's just a token fee sometimes for th5 services.
we did have a thing here where people took their dogs and cats once a month for pick up to have them fixed or get their shots but the local vets put up such a fuss they quit it for they were losing too much money

We have the rspca over here, but they are not as good as the US and AUS versions. They are coming under a lot of fire in this country because they are not actually helping animals any more. Well, they're not helping PEOPLE with their animals, and have done away with their policy of never putting down a healthy animal. Plus I also have personal experience of the UK rspca. Had to call them once about my neighbours dog and they refused to even come out!
we have a farm store here where I can get the meds for most of their shots--so I do it myself

yes, always to the same place on Sat, the local Italian. The food is only so-so, but the people (and their dogs) are like family
its still pretty chilly here,but its to start warming up as the day goes and the week too

with husband (!!) and they have a Malinois (like a shepherd, but nicer and prettier) and a Coton de Tulear (like a bichon, but with different ears)
I bring dog treats and the dogs hang out with me, so it's very pleasant

with daffs, I just pinch off the dead blossoms and, as the leaves get ugly, I cut them down a bit
I never heard of that, JBV. I don't cut the leaves until they are dry and brown. The leaves provide energy for the bulb.
I was taught to fold them over and tie them down
jbv, if you live in a particularly windy area, yes tie them off. my garden, although quite large, is very sheltered.

hmmmm, i never do anything to the leaves. after they have flowered i let the leaves die off naturally, that way the nutrients in the leaves are re-absorbed into the bulbs.
