pugs! *hugs* Two days in a row, I am lucky! How are you today? Any more luck with sleeping?
i know! Iam running behind but came to hope to at least say howdy
it worked, grin. Howdy, pardner!
how is paridise--lol
so peaceful, pugs! So quiet. I even got out my knitting yesterday evening and spent some time watching tv and knitting. With my new hobby lamp that they gave me for my birthday. I was happy as can be. Still am :)
how lovely Sprite! was you in a rocker too-lol I use to knit in 4H
Rose done been on or do you knoe
I wish, grin. No, just on the couch. What is 4H?
haven't seen her yet. Maybe she will drop in soon.
like a youth program that offers different things and you go to county fairs at the end to show off your items
steer
oops sorry
oh wow, sounds like fun! I have knitted all my life, but with my love hogging the tv and with the hot temps of late, I haven't done it at all.
what are you making
don't worry, blame the stupid layout of the site :)
its been hot and muggy here and storms off and on then the temps drops a few days then back up--like riding a yo-yo--lol
the weather is really off, worldwide, isn't it.
it seems to be
looks like a fun grid today
Hi all :) hugs to both of you
well as bad as I hate to I got to run and get ready. I will write as soon as I can. I got to take sis to doctor today after work---I need more time-lol Love and hugs and sooooo enjoy your time--take care dear friend and if Rose comes extend these things to her, please
it does, just goes with your theme, does it not-lol
will do, dear friend. Take care of yourself. Hugs and lots of love for you.
hi Liz! *hugs*
back at ya :)
Have a good day, pugs. More hugs!
Hi sprite :) enjoying your me- time?
so much, Liz :) Thanks for your email. I just had to share the good feelings, grin.
It was really short just cos I thought tha those few words said it all!
they did :D
Can't believe I missed pugs again :(
how are you and your husband? Any more whale spotting done?
pug has to run around this time if she is to be ready for work in time.
Going again tomorrow! The only day this week, where the weather looks good. Seas have been high this week. Lots of wind.
95 left here and I've screeched to a halt. Easy up until now!
are there no whales then, or is it just that you don't like high seas?
I don't like high seas! Also it's harder to spot them. There are loads around.
if I ever can come visit you, Liz, I hope we can go and see them :)
August is peak season. Whales passing the coast swimming both north and south.
I'd love to take you out to see them.
You'd probably like the temperatures at this time of year too.
it must be so special. Very privileged feeling, I think.
It would be a fluke
Yes it really is.
hi ruru :)
Hi Ru! Lol.
a whale of a tale for sure
I was wondering what you were blubbering about :D
you think I orca shutup?
Lol
Whales are computerized now...
With Ipods
Groan!
lol
Lol
Loving the puns :)
how are you today, ru?
Just ok
ruru is our king of puns
ok... that is better than lousy but not as good as great
Yeah..that is what i think too
Time to go. Have a good day / sleep well Ru. Hugs
*hugs ru* There, to make you feel a little closer to great then.
Bye liz
bye Liz, enjoy your dinner and a hug for both of you.
I love the monkey with the phone, ru
I find it funny
me too. I bet it is playing babble on the phone and monkeying for its last few words
That is the joke..
:D
Off to bed..take care
sleep well, ru. Happy dreams.
fireflies. Bye all, a blessed day and a peaceful night to you all.
Good morning if anyone is around.
Hello, Sukee :-)
Hi zoom
Hi sukee ans zooz
hi Dianne
I'm up early doing laundry today. Fun.
What time is it, sukee?
5:46 AM, I got up at 4:30
I am 12 hours later than you.
Where are you?
Hong Kong
Ok, couldn't figure out the flag :)
I saw in your profile that you do freelance writing. What type?
Nothing really exciting mostly business blog posting.
I do write some articles on various online sites too.
O.K. so no steamy, ghost writing then.
Not yet :)
There is always tomorrow..........
de
cooee and g'day from me
Hi from UK - work procrastination again!
lol, and you do it so well
It's all good spelling practise, I tell myself, lol
yeah, but in which language...take your pick...english/american, french, german, italian and...wait..there's more...russian, scottish...
I work in fluent Spanglese. This game doesn't seem to recognise English.
good morning everyone
morning crossy, bacon on yet? and how about a caffeine fix?
kettle is on, rise:)
rose:)
nice....be right over...lol. how are you, dear firend?
ugh * friend *
but fire-end works too....gosh i kill me with laughter...
nto too bad at all and how is my rose this fine summers day?
still waiting. physio does not want me to exercise until we get the results from the cardiologist which is next tuesday.
ok then, you best cut out the hang gliding till then:)
crossy, i picked up the cheque from my mother's estate tonight. you are talking to a lady of independent means.
shame that, crossy. * crosses finger's behind back* and i was so looking forward to it.
ohh! a wealthy woman! You can buy ole crossy a drink or 6
crossy, when you, i and our spouses are all in the same city, the drinks will be on me...top shelf of course.
we just got the taxation clearance certificate for my M.I.L's estate. Only took a full 2 years to clear everything up. Now we can wrap everything up and dismiss the blood sucking lawyer!
i did that once...drank my way through the top shelf at the local pub. i seem to remember my girlfriend and i decided to find our way home by following the tram-rails.
every time that lawyer coughs it costs 100 dollars it seems
egad, crossy, we had to wait 6 months, and we thought that was excessive.
Halfway.....tea break.
enjoy wordnerd.
it was not so much the lawyer as it was Revenue canada taxation dept. taking its sweet time. Guess they wanted to make sure there was nothing else they could wring out of the estate
I am contemplating what I desire from the top shelf...
oh, crossy...when we were at one of our favourite eating places, i decided to have an earl gray tea. they made it with loose tea-leaves. it was to die for...i would have happily climbed into the teapot and drowned.
Glenfidditch(sp) came out with a very limited 40 year old tipple about 15 years ago.We can see if any of that is still floating around:))
oh, yeah, crossy, you are talking my language
hello my friends. Back from a somewhat liquid Italian lnch, It's Grappa Girl in her cape
I have been seriously considering going to loose-leaf teas, but the only brand we can get here in that manner is Twinnings
{{hugs}} my darling ruby
((ruby))
Ruy is a little bit snookered. As I leave, they give me a small Carciofina for "digestion" and it knocks me on my ar**
crossy, the loose leaf tea was so different from the tea-bags. more fragrant, more flavoursome. it was an incredible experience.
lolol...and a very pretty ar** it is....
there is an irishman who does very good reviews of malted whiskies on you tube(I forget his name atm) but I find it very interesting that the correct pronunciation of that end with the K sound for that brand of whiskey
<-- loves single malts! I don't drink the often, but they are splendid. Like Cragganmore, MacCallan, etc.
he also says to hunt for one called green Spot
ummm, crossy, that is how you say it...mind you, my dad was into that stuff, and taught all of us as soon as we could understand and be legal.
Green Spot....right....sounds interesting
wish I could think of his we site now..
web
my dad had an earthen jar, cork sealed with wax, of Whiskey of Ye Monks. when he cracked it, it was like drinking liquid gold. it was 50 years old, and a single.
ahh his web site is www.ralfy.com
wow! a 50 year old single!
He is kind of hypnotic when you play his whisky reviews. I just like hearing his accent
But after watching a few of his reviews even a whiskey amateur such as myself can learn what to try and what to leave on the shelf.
lol, of course my mum always put a damper on things. she said dad turned all us kids into alcoholics...we like a few drinks...and?? so what!!! she was so nasty. she never missed an opportunity to demean us kids or our dad.
:(
my f.i.l was a bittle grumple old man in his last 5 years or so. Told my wife just to shoot me if i become that way.
grumpy
not one of us drank under-age, not one of us would drink and drive. any drinking is done in a responsible manner, which is what our dad taught us.
bitter*
i cannot type today
my father had issues with the booze. he ended up with his thiamin levels going all crazy in his late 60,s and must be careful now
yeah, i know crossy. and puglet's other half is a drunk too. it's such a shame that people cannot control their greed. it ruins life for everyone around them.
All good things in moderation. I have even altered my bacon intake so my arteries do not harden:)
actually bacon here has become so darn expensive that i cannot justify buying it to often!!
did our ruby say good-bye? or did she fall off her chair?
I mean $6!!! for a pound of bacon??
it is about her time for the NYT crossword
crossy, you ant to start drinking loose tea. We do every night in cooler weather. We have a "Mrs. Tea". We get our leaves from a local "health food" store
that is $6, canadian? how much is that in AU$?
our money and yours is about on par rose
indeed, bichon. i plan of choosing some next shopping trip
You can also get it on line
We usually drink Earl Gray, English Breakfast, Assam, or Darjeeling
rather buy bacon in canada, then. bacon up to AU$15/kilo or just over 2lbs.
I need a nice strong tea. My usual is Ceylon Orange pekoe brewed till it is strong enough that i have to arm wrestle it for the teaspoon
Hi all :)
howdy,liz
g'day liz girl
Hi Crossy and Rose :)
that is about the same, rose. 2.2 pounds to the kilo
LOL crossy. Do you put milk in yours? I prefer mine "neat"
lolol...oh yeah...i'm not tipsy!!!
I take a drop of milk and use that raw, unbleached cane sugar, about a tsp for just a touch of sweetness
Of course, there's also turkey bacon
Crosshair, have you tried lapsang souchong?
Definitely a tea only for those who like it really strong.
no, I have not tried that blend
I prefer the taste of just tea. I think most U,S. who do drink tea, do the same
Like lapsing soughing - smoky if I remember. Haven't had it for many years.
It's a pine smoked black tea.
turkey bacon is horrible. i would rather kiss a pig!
Lapsang Souchang is like tea that has had ham boiled in it
crossy, I know, but it does have fewer calories
gm, everyone!
Like the auto correct on my version of the tea!!! LOL
Hi lbd :)
lol liz
howdy lbd
hiya, Liz!! been a while! how ya doing?
Hi dawg
Good thanks. How about you?
Was in the UK for 5 weeks but back here now for a couple of weeks.

Good morning Babblers :)

I'm back from there now, bichon. I was in London and Cornwall. Also went to Amsterdam and met up with Sprite and did 28 hours in Singapore.

Hi Kate and MLF
very nice! have to love babble get-togethers
It was great. Lots of time with family and friends.
Sprite is a really lovely lady - we had a great afternoon with her.
What is Singapore like Liz? Very hot and humid?
hello everyone :)
ooh, I bet it was a lovely time visiting Sprite!
It was hot and humid - we barely touched the surface of it. Spent most of our time at The Gardens by the Bay - 2 huge biomes.
Yes it was very special.
greeny, i don't like the smoky aroma of lap souchong, and g'day. bichon, crossy..turkey bacon?? do tell. g'day lbdawger. and g'day mlf....*pant, pant* i think i have caught up with you all.
Sounds like my kind of place Liz
HI Annie :)
oh, and g'day annie
hi annie
hi Liz, home for a while?
Would love to go back to Singapore for a bit longer.
hi rose and fan
Yes Annie. New Zealand next year.
Turkey bacon is not for rabid bacon lovers, but it is okay if you're on a diet
fair enough, granny, my mom says it smells like boiled moccasins.
hello. I was just n the phone with my sister in NY. She outdoes me with bad stuff happening, makes me feel very lucky!
I wish I could return to NZ
Hi Ruby and hugs
oh, liz, you doing the cruise?? or flying over?
oh ruby, what happened to your sister?
Really looking forward to it.
Flying and then driving, Rose.
greeny, no fat on the acon?? and that is bacon?? not in my book...lol
She is living with a demented and awful husband, but should have left him when she was 42 and now she's 77.
not good
yeah, liz. that's what don and i are doing the next time. we must do more of the north island.
and she can't afford and also doesn't have the heart to put him in a nursing home.
I think I shall just stay with the genuine bacon, but in moderation

ty molly nbt
and halfway! laundry clalls -bbl
in**** to put into place...
in**** to put into place...
funny how evident that seemed to the one giving it . i just figured it o ut.
I have found that here, what seems clear to one person can be completely muddy to another. : D
i do poorly when a word is broken into bits. but in other things, i need to see the whole before the pieces make sense. jigsaw puzzles frustrate me.
Oh my, diagramming sentences in grade school must have made you loopy then.
hmmm, i don't think so, because it started with a whole entity = a sentence.
Ah, I see.
pardon me, there is a lag here, which created doule posts.
if someone begins an explanation by building up from the details or parts, i have great difficulty folloiwing.
Good morning
howdy car:)
morning, car.

name that proper noun time! The gentleman in the Disney classic, "Song of the South"?
Remus
Remus
Ding! Ding! Ding!
Gin and tonics all around
zippity do da, zippity ay, my oh my what a wonderful day.
Hmmmm...wonder why they have taken that gem out of the "Disney Vault"
:)
I love that movie
Nothing but sunshine headin' my way
it is a happy song!
Oops...that should be PLenty of sunshine
I did not know they took it out of the vault. I do hope they are not planning to remake it
zippity do da, zippity ay!!
No, i believe that one is under lock and key by the NAACP
The Sweet Potato Queens tell a great story of a woman who put up with a horrible, demeaning husband for years. As the story goes, as the hearse was pulling away from his funeral, she was heard whistling Zippity Doo Dah from the backseat. : D
Don't blame her!
off for a bit...have a good day everyone!
haha, Molly, I read the first book. very funny
I think several women have been heard whistling it as they walk out of divorce court as well.
90 left, bbl, hagd all:)
That disney movie was deemed racial
yes that movie was deemed racial. i saw it in the movie theaters when it first came back after it was banned and if i am not mistaken they colorized it. Its a fantastic movie i sitll love it to this day
You know, movies like Song Of The South are a part of our history. I don't think sweeping them under the rug is the way to go. History is there to be learned from, not ignored.
Good morning, loves!
hi judi
Reading back in chat. Never heard of The Sweet Potato Queens. What year was that from:
Molly i agree with you completely. Its a great movie and children do learn about things like racial issues, slavery biggotry in all kinds of ways or they choose to ignore it. I saw the movie as a kid and none of that crossed my mind
I dont know what Sweet Potato Queen is either
WY 5/24 clue please?
Kind of sounds like The Color Purple.
Wy5 - past tense of wy4.
i have seen all kinds of movies on those types of subjects
but wasnt it something about the actor in it as well?
Song of the South
I did an entire thesis on this very topic. Mine was about the novel Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. In 2011, i think it was, a publisher came out with a sanitized and politically correct version of the story after several schools in the U.S complained about the usage of the N word in the story( Twain used that term just over 200 times in the book)
cross i too heard that about the story and the N word
Geesh. Wouldn't it have been easier just to burn all the books??? Sanitized... politically correct. Horseshit squared.
ME 6/27 clue please?
during the time it was written were people in everyday life using that term for black/colored people?
I personally do not believe any historical book should be changed. these books offer a rare window on our own history and allow us to live the lives of the people of that time, even if just for a while. Did you know the book was banned at the time of issue but for a totally different reason. The better of the time did not like the "low class" of people that twain was describing with such detail" not a word was mentioned at the time about anything else
betters*
The Sweet Potato Queens are a hysterical group of women from Jackson, Mississippi. If you haven't read their books, you should.

Harry is the man : D
woohoo!
Well Done Harry. And Hi everybody :-)
gotta go get the kids from camp. have a great day!
hello dear friends
Hello Trif :-)
hi there. nice crest! I was just researching those today
Our Alberta emblem.
I don't think our family has an emblem, but I could create one :-) They all came from England where family crests are big!
i am thinking of doing a mosaic on the floor of my bathroom, one crest in front of each vanity. His family crest is SUPER simple...my involves three lions :(
Would you do them with pieces of ceramic tile? If so, that's a lot of intricate cutting !
yes. I mosaic anything that will stand still. His would be so easy it's not even funny - three white crosses on a field of red. with small enough tiles not a cut to be made. MIne? mine would make me want to punch a kitten in the face.
I've never really researched our family crest... but as Google steps up its information, I could perhaps find one now... haven't searched for several years.
its really easy now
I had good luck at houseofnames.com
We have a retired friend in Arizona who was a tiler all his life.... now he just does beautiful table tops and small features on patios. He's unable to get down on his knees anymore.
I will check out that site, thank you :-)
that is unfortunate, but good news that he is still able to do some pieces. it's therapy for me, I swear
my magnus opus was my backsplash...
That site is very interesting... I'll go back later and do some reading. There is a lot of information on my English family name!
What was your backsplash magnum opus ? Something incredible ?
a huge sea glass mosaic I did
do you have the count for the nine please?

thanks....looking
the 8 is the singular

that did it! thanks diane, got it!
good sleuthing !
And I am off until sometime this evening. Good luck with the grid... it's not really difficult but a little tricky ! Bye for now.....

Can you clue it Marc?
I have had my retinal scan and am now summoned at great haste to my GP. It looks as if they found something, chrissie
Oh no, so sorry to hear that jaxx
I have mixed feelings, chrissie. part of me feels glad that something has been found while the other half is dreading the results.
Can't figure out why they're sending you back to the GP though rather than the specialist
me+not in **t then past tense
Yes, there is definitely something wrong so much better to get treatment if possible
Now I cannot find the me6/24 after that. Could someone clue that word, please?
I have an appointment with the specialist in six months. they did the same last year but the dr's secretary just phoned to say all was well.
Thanks Marc
When are you seeing the GP?
Just started here Marc

My sister had a meeting with one of our immigrant friends outside marlborough's Waitrose. It all hinged on a dog who came over to greet Jill. She has this thing for animals and they respond. The owner of the dog came out of the store. he was bulgarian or Romanian. Either way he was terrifying. All covered in tattoos and wearing two diamond studs in each ear and lots of large gold rings
What followed next was amazing. The dog had what looked like a knife wound on its back. The man came over to Jill, pointed at the dog and said mine.
afternoon everyone:)
Sorry didn't get the clue for the me5/14/
salut cross
me + mu***r she wrote
jaxx, what's the upshot of the story?
thanks got it
;-)
She pointed out the gash and he turned into a softy. what do/ he asked. Jill said antiseptic wipes. he shrugged so my silly sis left her full trolley and her bag with him, went in and bought said wipes. Out behind her came the most beautiful woman. She came over to Jill and the tattoed one. Jill was trying to explain that she would hold the dog'd head and he apply the wipe. A brief conversation was held in native language. The man wiped down the wound. Then he seized Jill in a bear hug and danced her around the path. Then the woman came up and did the same.
LOL
A supermarket worker came across and tried to 'save' her. Jill explained and the young man got her a taxi. As she went to get in the man came up and grabbed her again. Got her to tell him the word for his dog in English. She said doggy and he repeated doggee thank .
Goes to show you can't judge by someone's appearance.

We're all young at heart
jaxx scrolled back and saw your 'dog' story ..loved it
Thanks, Westford. My sister has terrified immigrants in Marlborough before. It makes a change for her to be the scared one
from your description of the man all I could think of was genie or pirate
I think he was a Gypsy from Eastern Europe. There is a community in Marlborough for the last 60 years. They tend to stick together.
have to wonder who stabbed the poor doggie
Jill said it was quite a gash. It was a collie cross.
poor thing
Clearly not the tattooed man, he was very distressed.
I didn't think it was him
obviously loved his dog
I suggested it had been in a car accident but Jill said it was too clean a cut for that.
perhaps someone who knew it was the man's dog and wanted to send him a message
most likely..maybe the beautiful woman's brother
There's some ****** alarm going off. It's not very close, but still loud enough to be annoying.
maybe. perhaps you could write a book based on the tattooed man and his beautiful lady. Do a Crossy
hah I'll leave the writing to crossy..I'd turn it into the tattooed lady..you know, and on her jaw was a Royal Flying Corps..
based on WWI as it is in the news at the moment. My grandfather was in the RFC in WWI. He was gassed.
I'm so sorry
the war to end all wars..if only
we've seen the Tower of London getting decked out in ceramic poppies..that will be amazing
He survived but was poorly afterwards. he went into AVRO who built the Lancaster bomber in WWII and had the plans for the Vulcan in his pocket when he died .
Too many wars still today
amen chrissie
Interesting jaxx
he was a career man jaxx ?
One of our mags had a pattern for crocheted and knitted poppies and they made up wreaths for the centenary events. Four of my husband's great grand uncles died in WWI. all but 1 of his great grandmother's sons. Sad.
AVRO's factory was literally just across the road. My mother remembered their house being strafed by a german pilot. She could see the whites of his eyes!
So very sad.
That was in Manchester wasn't it?
We here have no idea what you went through
it was very sad indeed, especially as the generals made sure theywere nowhere near the carnage. the Israeli/ Palestinian war is equally sad though
yes, Chrissie.
Can't watch the news atm, all those innocent children suffering
My bridesmaid was a Jewess and met her husband in jerusalem. After years of persecution they have a singular mindset
I want to say something profound but the only thing I can think of to say is STOP
Could I get a clue for se6, please?
Hear hear west
Got it thanks
I agree but as usual it is the males who fight and the women and children suffer. Unfortunately today civilians are seen as expendable.
Working well on your own tonight Mark :)
We are putting the World to rights.
The Babble Peace Coalition
It will take the women to bang heads together. jaw, jaw instead of war, war
now that's not a bad idea
on a happier note did you see the story out of Perth Aus ?
You will notice that our Middle East Peace Envoy, Mr Anthony Blair is nowhere to be seen. Too busy making money!
to6, please?
No, not that i recall
What was that west?
man's leg was stuck between train and platform and hundreds of fellow passengers tilted the train so he could get free
Mark, I don't have it, sorry
Oh, yes I did see that. Amazing pictures
Wow. All that adrenaline achieved a fantastic result.
there is still good in this world
Viz my sister and the tattooed man's dog
yes we only hear about the bad
to6 anyone????
mark I don't have it either..do you have full stats ?
There is. We must remember that. As we get older and worn down by life, it's too easy to focus on negatives

OK I got it thanks
Without our help!

NO problem have a good rest
Night jaxx
now it is time for Crossy's tidbit of the day!! Scrabble recently added 5000 new words to the official Scrabble dictionary, so all you Scrabble fiends get the new edition and start memorizing them!!
Including quinzee, which could give a player a total of 401 points (if it is played in the top row of the board, ending on the top right square, through a previously played letter U.)
Sorry, quinzhee
yes, something to watch out for to get a jump on your opponent
my in-laws were deathly serious Scrabble players. They would bet on a 5 cent a point scale, so the difference between your final score and the leaders score would have you shelling out one dollar for every 20 points you were behind
and the Scrabble dictionary of the time was God
they often had 10 cent a point games but I did not join those. i prefer to have fun with the game
me 8/9 clue please
