the darned thing's in a really playful mood this morning. He's 10 years old and usually sits on his perch waiting for his food and water, but today he was climbing round the cage and when i went to put his food back in he was nipping at me - something he does for fun, little sod! gotta love him lol

to be honest he's Di's budgie (well, he was her Mum's til she passed away) but he seems to have adopted me since I moved up here 4 years ago. He doesn't come out of his cage, and seems quite happy to stay in there, but he is a naughty little thing sometimes - even for 10 he's full of life and energy!

i watched a video online the other day of a tawny owl hanging upside down on an electric wire - it seemed to be quite content to do so for a good 10 minutes. Di was worried about it until i pointed out to her that joey has always hung upside down in his cage so it must just be something they enjoy doing for a laugh!

He went home about a month ago. Finding his mum was busy he went out to play (or so he said) We thought he was at home when in fact he was playing chicken on a busy main road. A lady rescued him and took him into the hospital which was nearby. He told the nurses that he did not know his name or where he lived!!!! On further questioning he said he remembered a phone no. They rang us and we went to collect him and take him home. This on the very day the SS had insisted we meet with them as Ashley was in danger.
All I can say is that in the last 20 years here the school system in conjunction with the govt has created a nanny province where the teachers and the board of education decide how you are to raise your kids. I am very glad we made it through relatively unscathed. We once had our son go across a busy road and hide in a ditch from us. he thought it was a fun game of hide and seek(he was 6 at the time)
What can you do, though, with a child that says 'so what' when we remonstrate with him. hey, I shall have to imbibe cider more often. My vocab has improved.
see? In the old days, the neighbour would of brought the child home. made him some soup and grilled cheese and found out where the child lived an and had him returned. Now everyone called hospitals, pilice and childrens aid in a knee-jerk reaction. Nobody wants to get involved anymore on a personal level
