The climate is pretty harsh. We do have some flowers but they don't grow in huge areas. Birds of paradise - beautiful when in flower but tatty afterwards, gazanias and we've got a few gerberas surviving. Also agapanthus.
But the trees in blossom in spring are awesome.
Especially the scarlet flame trees and the purple jacaranda.

MimiCat--I have read about it. The cause appears to be an Enterovirus and is causing some kids to have severe respiratory illnesses. We have not seen it here, as far as I know. We are seeing kids with wheezing and coughing, but no one terribly ill.
