Hi, hugs and happy Christmas,Rose
Hope you've had a lovely day.
{{hugs}} liz girl. it has been lovely....pain-free for the first time in four days.
That's really good to hear.
how has your day been?
You see your family tomorrow - is that right?
yup....big day tomorrow.
Quiet. Like a normal day but we tend to stay away from the beach.
and tomorrow too i bet.
Yes - there was also a hostage situation near the beach this am and a tree / grass fire, so not a place to be.
That was just the closest beach.
oh dear, liz. are both issues resolved?
Hostage had gun - resolved peacefully after 8 hours I think. Think the fire is under control but lots of smoke apparently. Hope it's under control so sad. They've planted so many tr4s on the dunes.
Hi all my Babble friends - must share my wonderful news - my son just got engaged to the most lovely girl. We are thrilled.
Congrats Dianne. Lovely news.
do they know if the fire was deliberately lit?
wow!! congrats dianne. how wonderful and exciting!
Don't know yet. It's was near some major hotels, so possibly carelessness.
Thank you both.
soooo, tell all. where, how, who....
Also BR Seaworld so loads of people around.
They both were living in California and a mutual friend introduced them and it turns out the were raised in neighboring towns in New Jersey. So they had many things in common immediately and from there it went to falling in love, moving in together and then to him officially asking her parents and then the ring!
How lovely.
what a beautiful love story, dianne. i bet you're not going to forget this christmas in a hurry.
After my husband and I stopped crying (tears of joy) we can't stop smiling.
:)
i bet....will you be able to go back to the states for a bit to help celebrate?
We are hoping to go in February.
have they set a wedding date yet?
When they skyped us we were so excited we forgot to ask.
lol, dianne...i can just picture it.
Happy Christmas everyone. My best pressie was being told 2 weeks ago that I am clear of Breast Cancer. Babble and you lovely lot got me through the last 3 years. Thank you x
Congrats, Pat. The best news.
Wow, Pat, that is wonderful news.
pat, what a marvellous pressie. congrats sweetie. major milestone achieved.
I don't chat much but I still think of you all as friends because you always help lift people in an instant. You are just there!
btw have one of you spoken to my hubby? he who usually hogs the tv in a major way?
last night, i got to watch the australian ballet perform nutcracker suite, today i have been allowed to watch carols by candlelight, the queen's speech, and now the royal variety performance.
Not guilty. Why?
Happy Christmas from don
along with THREE pair of pearl earrings, and....the latest season of downtown abbey.
Lucky you :) but you deserve it all and more.
i feel very spoiled, liz.
Like I said ...
oh, wow, liz are you watching the royal performance?
No. It's not something I've ev4 particularly enjoyed.
Didn't see liz's speech either.
the emcee is great this year.
Who's that?
have to admit her speech moved BOTH of us to te5.
Good old queenie.
michael mc intyre (sp?)
Actually just checked! Royal variety not on here for another 30 mins.
He's good.
Hello everyone. Is the 9 a plural?
no zooz, it's de9. you have to be wanting a clue really badly for it, mate
hahah nice clue.Thanks, Rose!
zooz, may i take this opportunity to wish you and yours a thoroughly wonderful holiday season?
zooz, i kept thinking de9 was a phantom, along with de6/21, a big sandy place.
You may.And thank you.I do hope you are having a wonderful time, Rose :-) Going for a family get together soon. Should be manic..lol
that's tomorrow for me. today hyas been very quiet. after church, we came home, and i crawled onto the bed. i slept between 4am and 7am last night. just one of those, you know what i mean. ugh.
Yes it can just get too much, even when pacing yourself.
It is all the mental stress too that can wipe you out.
tomorrow 11 adults, 1 soon-to-be adult and 7 kids get together to celebrate christmas....i love it.
I have my turkey hat ready for the festivities..lol
lol, nice zooz.
wow that is large, Rose...There will be 9 of us altogether this end.
*giggle* and they haven't finished reproducing themselves yet...
LOL
If all the family was getting to gether then there would of been over thirty of us..lol thnk goodness that is not the case!
zooz....my generation has finished...i hope...it's the next one...i love watching my sons, the youngest 27 riunning after their cousins, youngest 2 years.
ugh...running
It is strange seeing my sister who I used to carry in my arms running round like a headless chiken after her children..Where did the time go Sigh.
i talked to the soon-to-be adult last week, on the phone. omg...his voice is sooo low.
Chicken*
i know zooz....it's scary!!
Hey Rose - how about some of your good clues for the 3 re words right before the one where they take back your car?
Teehee I told my sister that I hope she is taking plenty of photos and videos of the children growing up.So they can see what they were like when they were growing up. The squeaky voice when young going into a deep voice when getting older..lol
he is nearly 16...and nearly 7 foot tall. we watch him get out of his parent's car with our jaws dropped.
RE+ garment to wear on your chest under most clothes?
dianne, re5, re + most of creeper plant + vowel
RE+ not standing?
then re6, past tense. re6, present tense
7 foot wow that is tall!
Rose, you are wonderful - thanks.
lol, you should see the public transport police faces when they check his ID.
haha I bet!
dianne, xoxox
Does he know what he wants to do job wise?
zooz, it will be something to do with the IT industry. he is amazingly talented in that way.
which is not so astonishing, considering his father knows over 10 computer languages, and can build a computer from scratch + it's soft ware.
Good for him, Rose, That is the way forward it seems with all the technology growing as fast as it is.
Okay it is almost time for the mayhem to begin. Enjoy the evening , Rose.Toodle pips for now.
enjoy your day, zooz. xoxox
brb...going for something to eat. xoxox
okay, falling asleep here. my darling sprite...xoxox. i did email you dear. {{hugs}} ruby. xoxox to you all. i hope you all have a peaceful christmas. and if you don't celebrate....enjoy the silly season.

Nice big grid for today.

Goodness that's a lot of words!
Really...
Good morning a happy Christmas!
Merry Christmas.
hehehe hi pippin. Less than half of the biggest grid ever though.
Hi all :)
True, but I still have homework for today. I think I can squeeze in a grid tho
hi Liz :) Happy Hanukkah.
Hi liz
Thanks - it's finished now! But Happy Christmas to you and to those celebrating.
you could use it for the breaks you will need, pippin :)
thanks Liz :) and *hug* to you both.
I will need them!
Morning Liz
Hi Sukee
How was Doctor Who?
Haven't seen it yet.
It's on about 2PM my time.
I rewatched last year's Christmas special last night.
I meant the marathon! The special isn't on in the UK for quite a few hours yet.
Not sure why there isn't a simultaneous showing of the special here.
LOL, sorry. I just watched the one episode yesterday. Today I'll watch the past season. :)
Ah! OK. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I have to wait another 20 odd hours before the special makes it here.
clue for the oe7 please
I had plans to order Chinese food last night and have it today as well but they were not delivering. I ended up with pizza and chicken, which is good finger food :)
Sounds good to me!
First year I haven't made myself a Christmas dinner. It's kind of liberating :)
As long as you're happy with whatever you choose to do.
Not sure how to clue the oe 7 - have to confess I used more words for it.
the oe7 is a unity of electricity. Oe + *e** in peace + the famous Mr. ** *horse)
Thanks, that's what I just did.
Ty sprite.
yvw
Thanks Sprite. I was just looking up the definition. Merry Christmas all!
to you too, emtian
Merry Christmas.
Just found the de 9 - was sure that was a phantom!
To you too, emtian

Well, I am over half and need a break. I will be back.
Hi and hugs, Ruby
Hi Ruby.
I am taking a break from cooking. Thank you, babble Gods, as I have some time
Hello hello sukee and liz.

Enjoy your day sukee
Merry Christmas to all my babble buddies:)
Capon is stuffed and in the oven as is cauliflower au gratin. Sweet potatoes are cooking. Cranberry-orange relish is made All that is left is the pumpkin pie and the snails

{{crossy{{
{{SPRITE}}
Hi and happy Christmas, Crossy
((ruby)) ((sprite))) mistletoe is up... make with the kisses...
THIS IS A "TRADITIONAL" (HAHAH, WHAT TRADITION?) DINNER.
*kisses crossy*
((liz))
No kisses, just food. (sasme thing?)
Way to a man's heart:)
My husband loved the two watercolors of the dogs, Ruffino and Ruby, which I had made for him by a local artist He wept for an hour and said it was the best gift he had ever received It was a little bit embarrassing, but they are lovely paintings
I am doing a turkey for the first time in 5 years this year... should be fun:)
Yaa for the perfect present!
apon is somewhat more manageable for me as I can actually lift it ol
That's a lovely present, Ruby. So happy your husband loved it.
Capon*
aw ruby, that is so sweet. Am glad he enjoyed it so much.
And I make m mother's chestnut, walnut, giblet stuffing. I even hD A ITTLE BIT OF Pepperidge fARM STUFFING MIX IN THE FREEZER
Well I think I'll leave it for tonight with 50 left for tomorrow. Perhaps these will seem easier to find in the light of day! Happy christmas to all of you celebrating.
I am already tired, but will have about 2 hours to rest before I make the pumpkin pie.
have a lovely night, Liz, and sleep well. *hugs* for you and your husband.
Hugs to you and yours too.
Snails??? not very American. French people all eat oysters on Christmas eve and Christmas day. I used to love oysters, but find them yucky ow, too much of a good thing, I guess
I don't like that kind of seafood at all. Give me a good honest chicken anyday.
I mailed you a greeting, Sprite, but, as usual, used the wrong e-mail address and it came back
the only one you should remember is the one I have here in babble. spriteweb at upcmail dot nl
I'll try agai la**r as Christmas will still be going on.....
it is the thought that counts, ruby :) *hug* It's all good!
I have to be off. Ill husband to look after. Some decorations to put up. Is it January yet, please?
poor husband what a rotten time to be sick!
lol, ruby. I remember when I was young, and my Da's ordeal of the Christmas turkey. He always swore with a vengeance that he would make our turkey look exactly like the ones they show on tv--all perfectly golden brown and moist... well, one year it looked like he would realize his dream; he prepped that bird by making little cuts in the skin and slipping slivers of butter inside, and he did the stuffing outside the bird to promote more even cooking, and he basted it with the shimmering amber juices every 30 minutes without fail. Then it was time. he called us all over as the bird was done, and it was time for it to come out of the oven... camera's were poised and at the ready, and we all gasped with delight as he opened the oven door and stood back with pride for us all to take a peek. It was beautiful; it was a uniform golden brown, plump and the juices seems to dance with delight as they rolled down the skin of the bird. it was amazing... UNTIL... My Da grabbed the oven mitts, and went to pull the oven rack out so as to grab the handles of the roasting pan that the turkey was nestled in--then it happened. As Da reached to grab the roasting pan, the back part of the oven rack slipped free from the oven and the entire rack tipped forward suddenly, and the roasting pan with the bird still inside slid from my fathers tentative grasp and crashed to the floor! With horror us kids saw the pan tip over as it hit the tile, spraying those golden juices in a fan all around our feet and the turkey hit that liquid and slid across the kitchen tile and landed right into the cat litter box in a nearby closet! Needless to say it was a disastrous end to our Christmas dinner that year, and we had Chinese food which all us kids loved, the cats had a full turkey dinner for weeks and they were very happy. My da had a bottle of whiskey for dinner as a recall, and it would be two years befoie we saw another turkey on our Christmas table.;))
sorry long post
great story, crossy. I've been known to wash off "company food" that has fallen on the floor, dry it and serve it. With enough liquid refreshments, nobody ever notices
That is hysterical, Crossy! Your poor dad! I remember the year my mum forgot to remove the plastic bag of giblets from inside the turkey, and the bird was ruined and we had to eat sausages with the vegetables while the turkey was, yes, given to the cat. Cats are very lucky at Christmas. Merry Christmas to you all!
The dogs didn't get their morning walk but I'll make up for it with capon in their dinner.
When I was as yong bride, I made an elaborate dinner for our faculty guest but, unfortunately, left the sweet potatoes in the oven.
loved your story crosshair....I had baked for weeks and made a huge platter of cookies, candies, fudge and displayed it ona beautiful glass plate..... that fell off the counter ...shattered into a million pieces. We all have those disappointing horror stories of Christmas Catastrophes. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!
Want some fun? Cook a turkey AND a small Corish game hen, and right before you serve the turkey slip the game hen inside. Now when you serve it , start cutting, and gasp with horror when you see the small bird inside, and exclaim aloud "I did not know it was pregnant!!!"
In some ways, those "horror" stories make us remember and smile. We probably remember them at least as fondly as all the "perfect" meals
It is all part of the Christmas experience:)
that I a riot, crossy.
I remember one year I had the perfect turkey going, but I also had some cooking booze going, and by the time everything was done, daddy needed a nap:)
Funny story, Crossy! I am glad I got here to read that.
Merry Christmas, scrabs
I'm glad there's no tradition of eating rabbit on Christmas!
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas Scrabby!
When we lived up north, rabbit was always a winter stew sort of meat and not much used for anything else.
I am cooking food to bring to my mother's.
You are a good daughter:)
I will be putting our bird on at 10 am:)
tique

merry Christmas to all. I am cooking the bird in a "big easy". Inferred turkey oilless cooker. It is amazing and fun to stand around outside.
I have something to tell you all, but please know I am ok and if you know Pam, she is knowing it will be ok.
merry xmas sue
My Jesus gave me an amazingly peaceful present this year. He took my very disabled father home in Monday. It was very peaceful in his drug induced slumber.
in=on
oh honey, so many hugs to you and yours.
my father was the cook. as Pam will attest, he taught us that jelly in cereal might work after all. He taught us how to laugh at ourselves in the falls and how to celebrate getting up again. I believed in me. I will miss our phone calls very much. especially he horrible jokes.
i=he
I wish I wrote down the stories for my kids to read, but I am sure Alex or Pam will do a much better job. You all need to write the stories down that you have said, and give them to your kids so they may add to them.
I dont want to down the chatter, please keep going with the stories they are wonderful to read.
it's true. I just had a great call with my 97 yo grandfather after a serious health scare, and was so happy to tell him some things I wanted him to know, and to share some sweet stories and memories
On my grandmothers death bed, i found out that her name was Simi, but when she came to the US from Russia, they used the english name Sophie.
Have to love a perfect sized Christmas grid:)

yaexcedrinextrastrength
I thought they yanked Excedrin
nope.. back on the market
It was off the market more than a year though
I did not realize it was off the market but then I do not buy it
I love mimosas and bellinis
I have to have it around to beat headaches
For the brief stint I did with migraines, their Excedrin Migraine worked well
I like my champagne straight up.
yes.. it's pretty much a lifesaver for me sometimes
I like mimosas with fresh oj and Spanish Cava
Spanish cava is a wine?
sparkling wine from Spain
ok, I will look into that
much less expensive than real Champagne
but don't buy Freixenet..it's dreck
any particular brand?
Now I am hearing drunk Robert Shaw in Jaws singing "Farewell and adieu to you dear Spanish ladies..."
my fave is Bohigas Reserva Non-vintage.. not expensive and incredibly good
it's one of my house bubblies here
thanks ruru will check that out
Must remember that 'Dreck' word did not know it was a Yiddish/German word!

how was your dinner yesterday, ruru?
sorry for the double entry
it was fantastic.. it was nice to be out amongst people having fun
for prosecco peri.. here are some of the best
that is good. what did you have to eat?
San Venanzio Brut #2 Silvano Follador 2013 Brut # 3 Bele Casel Colfondo Asolo
ty ruru
I had pumpkin/mushroom angolotti with black truffles, lobster soufflé with a lobster cream sauce, veal cheek Bourginon with pilaf and crème caramel
san Venanzio is really inexpensive and superior quality too.. should cost about $12
that sounds like a wonderful dinner. what did you have to drink
I will have to buy that one and save it for my birthday or ask for it
I like country wines.. so I had a cremant d'Alsace for the first two courses and a cotes du rhone for the veal.. and the best part.. the owner of the restaurant comp'd my dinner
wow! that makes it even better.
Well you can't beat that for a nice holiday gift
yeah.. it was very nice of her
I did some really nice things for her this year.. so it was nice that she did that too. I love that restaurant.. the chef is amazingly talented
when does the family come over molly?
People who treat you as well as you treat them are a rarity.
My clan gathers late in the afternoon. They have in-laws to appease before they get here.
ah nice.. I hope you all have a great time
bbs
I believe in that too Molly.. I do nice things for people but never expecting anything in return, but appreciate it when people do something like that. it really made me feel good.
Thanks Ru, Glad to hear you had a nice Christmas Eve
I just didn't want to stay home. there were only two restaurants open in Napa. I'm glad I made a reservation in advance.. the place was packed.

nice going, pippin -- what are you studying?
one more course after this, but it won't be at this breakneck speed
this is statistics, blegh
Then i shall do what all writers do once they are done with academia... find a job flipping burgers so as to not starve to death between books! lol
Picasso was smart; he used to write cheques to pay for meals knowing they would keep it for the autograph and not cash it;)
can understand the blegh! My daughter who loves all things mathematical didn't enjoy teaching stats either
on my way - time to get the bird in the oven. back at the flip :-)
I almost forgot I am cat-sitting for a friend -- that means she left me stuffed shells and italian wedding soup to eat!

Hello all. Hello mama. Just starting and finding the calm conditions in the great Northwest lovely.
Merry Christmas everyone!
Hi all and hope that you are enjoying your Christmas.
Hello trifioso and lizlin. Lovely day with good food and a little company for good cheer.
very much lizlin!
lovely to hear stidge
Sounds just what's needed.
I am so blessed to be able to visit with Babblers from across the world in real time. These are the best of times.
It's good. It always amazes me how big the time differences are - it means there are always lovely people to talk to.
I generally come on board after feeding Murphy and before fixing our dinner but tonight we shall have snacks.
Feeling a little full????
Yes. It might have been the mincemeat pie. A small sliver was the right amount.
Overindulgence is fun - as long as it's doesn't happen too often! I think it's sad if you never overindulge!
Did you ever see so many re words?
Enough is a very good word.
Just finished them. Down to my final 6 words now. All the v's though! Still have 5 more to find.
hello Mother and Liz
Go Liz go!
Hi stid - hope you've had a lovely Christmas,
Good for you liz. on the res. Hi stidmama.
3 now - just found ve 6/8
It has been very nice -- went to a friend's for brunch, and home just watching TV and going through a few of the boxes that still need sorting out. Found wooden blocks in the garage this afternoon, so have wiped a few down to take to school for indoor recesses.
Go, liz!!
Sounds like a lovely relaxing day.
yes, and just passed halfway here, so it feels nice
how about you? How is summer going for you? Do you put lights on the palm/eucalyptus tr5?
ha. got that last Q word. :-)
We're having a lovely summer! Decorations are really low key here except on a few houses. Posters on street lamps. Some palm trees are lit up! We don't celebrate Christmas, so nothing in our house!
Fireworks! Final word an sa 5 I'd missed out before. Alternate spelling of an Indian dress.
:-) I wish things were more low-key here, though I love driving in the evening and seeing pretty lights, it gets awfully busy.
YAY Liz!!!!!
sary
ooops.....
I miss the lights from London - I thought they really brightened things up!
"sorry" ??? rofl
lol!
at least enter a word that counts!!! :)
I'm off to continue working on photo books from our holiday in June! It's taking ages - so many photos to process and then arrange. So enjoy the rest of your Christmas evenings.
I had the front porch wired with outlets so we can put strings of lights up year-round if we want. But we didn't have any strings to put up, so it's a pretty sad sight this year. I like the extra light in the dark, but it's a seasonal/solstice thing for us rather than religious.
hey trifioso! :-)
hey stid! merry christmas
Enjoy your task, Liz, relive those fun times! Happy Summer to you!
How is your day going, trifioso?
Thanks - hope your winter's not too hard :)
not so far, mostly above-average and drier than normal. We sent our precip south this year, they need it more! LOL
Almost half way here. Words seem to pop out on this big grid.
go Mother go!!!
very well. My kids had to go to Brokeback Mountain (aka their dad's house....) so I get a nice opportunity to spend some time alone with my valentine
I am SO CLOSE to NBS...
how was your day?
nice to cuddle, I expect, is the weather outside frightful? Is the fire so delightful? *cue music*
its so weird here - almost 70 degrees today!!!
but yes, cuddling is heaven
Going to be freezing here tonight we hear.
Mostly quiet, I caught up with a student from last year at our friend's brunch, and sat with her encouraging her to not shortchange her education... *rolls eyes* teenagers just want to jump to the end of things, and don't understand the real learning happens in the process.
wow, that's pretty warm outside.
it didn't feel much like Christmas, that is for sure
FREEZING? hm. I should encourage Tom to get the garbage to the road now, then. I won't move anything inside tonight, but I have a few plants that aren't liking the warm-cold cycles.
ha. NBT now
I don't have the nine, but other than that I'm nbt, nbs
go trifioso go!
ah, Grant has arrived... gf's car broke down today, he went to get her from a family "do" ... LOL
we sort of have a "rash" of dead alternators in the vehicles of our acquaintances. Luckily my car just got back from the shop, so we are able to help out!
Now that Grant is here, he and Tom can put those shelves up in my office! SO excited that we are finally getting some order and organization in the house.
trif, don't get de9 and beg for the 9
nice pipping, thanks!!!!
pippin!!!
nbs
just back from a catsitting errand, wanted to finish the grid
nice to hear things are coming into place, stid
It is nice to finally have energy and time to do it! I hope to have things in better order by Spring.... LOL right now I am working on finding books and such that I need for teaching!
Put away dishes from the dishwasher. Dad out taking the can to the road for tomorrow.
Mother, the garbage pickup is one day late this week...
What? Oh no.
yep. No pickup today, so ours is tomorrow, and yours will be one day after.
We'll be early for trash pick up.
:-) better early than la4!
down to 118, and going to get those shelves up. Have a lovely evening all! *poof*
