{{hugs}} my darling sprite. are you good today?
*hugs rose* Hello dear friend :) Nah, still down with the flu. How about you?
recovered from yesterday thank heavens. drove the car for 40 minutes today. ugh on the flu...tell himself to keep it to himself next time....lol
lol
ouch on the car drive... I hear ya! *Gentle healing vibes to hips and muscles*
THE MOTORCYCLE had to go in for it's first service...so he took it back to the dealers as it is a free service the first time.
i was so disappointed to miss you just by a few minutes last night. * sigh * but i did catch up with ruby and worzel later.
makes sense
am glad you got to chat with ruby and worzel. Was sorry to miss you too! My times are really off at the moment. Stupid flu.
never mind, there is always email. not the same but better than nothing.
amen, sistah :D
sounds like your day was worth it though. All great things. And claudia 3 yo already... amazing. Quite a lady, isn't she?
the kids were just adorable. noah, my bros youngest has such a caring heart. he plays so gently with his cousin and cousins once removed.
grace. Grace's birthday. Forgive my flu head.
np's dearest. i knew what you meant, sweetie.
not the foggiest where claudia came from
because claudia is my grand-daughter?
oh ok! Some misfiring synapses in my brain, apparently. So sorry.
lol....just you wait until yours start reproducing themselves....
oh ikr! I will be a disgusting grandma. Spoil them rotten, then hand them back to the parents.
yeah....* wicked grin * oh and i saw a photo of latest grandkiddie, sophia, she is the image of her daddy. still trying to get my act together on that front. *sigh*
and, of course, whenever my kids complain about their kids, I will smile and say: Sweet revenge.
*hugs rose* I know, darling. It hurts like mad. Wish I could make it easier for you but I can't.
btw, have some news for my second bro. very disturbing. you have heard stories about the asian women attaching themselves to men in order to get a ticket out of their poverty-stricken country?
yeah, I remember you telling me that he had hooked up with one?
ah come on, enable... more like plural mouse?
well one of them is cashing in on his broken heart with his partner showing him the door. she actually lives in one of 'those' districts. he has bought her a new motorbike, an expensive watch, and paid for her mother to have some expensive hospital treatment. we all are very worried for him.
oh dear. Sounds like she is taking him to the cleaner's. I can understand you are worried.
i am praying for his safety. he is her third partner...
as in black widow or as in divorce?
one of each....
hmz. I really understand your worries. But don't get carried away too much. It is always hard to judge a relationship from the outside.
the one issue i am afraid of....if he does bring her back to australia, who is going to protect his young son when on access visits?
how old is the son?
8 years old. he is the one with diabetes.
ah. Maybe he should come and visit his aunt then :)
this bro has been babysitting for another SIL when her hubby is overseas. she is now thinking very hard about letting my bro back into the house.
ah, well, as you say. it's hard to make the call.
I can imagine. But I hope she won't overreact just yet. If he was dependable in de past, I don't see why that would suddenly change.
the*
dutch words popping up in my english posts, lol. Brain fart...
hmmm, he may be dependable, but if she is with him????
in that case, SIL would be perfectly in her right to say she isn't yet comfortable with the idea of letting a stranger in her house, and to want to wait until she gets to know her better.
good point, sprite. thanx for that. i think aunty rose and uncle don are going to have to put their hands up.
hehehe indeed. Supergranny and spouse to the rescuuuuuue!
oh, dear. the anti-vaccine people are pushing their case again, apparently. there is no scientific proof that vaccination causes autism. it's so sad. there are children suffering who do not need to suffer.
it is a tough call, that one. We struggled with it as well. I found a compromise in letting the children have their shots, but at a later age.
i guess because i have been a health-care professional, i find their arguments specious. since parents have stopped vaccinating their kids, we have actually had several new cases of polio. it's such a shame. these kids, if they survive, will be physically effected all their lives.
I think polio is a disease you don't fool around with. My doubts are about the wisdom of vaccinating against chickenpox and such.
if just one child dies.....i will be screaming for something...don't know what....but i will be screaming...
i know what you mean...but the vax should be given if not already had before travelling to a third world country.
oh and you don't fool around with mumps either.
hm yeah, mumps... the problem is, it is such a normal children's disease... and children grow in so many ways when they can battle it and come out victorious. But you cannot know if your child isn't one of the rare cases of complications.
i also feel that vaccinating kids helps build their immune system reaction to antigens. and that is really important.
but so does, for instance, getting over the chickenpox yourself. I am not dead set against it, I am just struggling with it. At one side, it is all your arguments and they hold water.
at the other hand... we don't allow our children to become sick anymore, not even a cold if we can help it... and then we complain they take everything for granted and act like good health and good luck is their due.
if I say tumeric is a phantom, would that be my flu talking?
the chicken pox vaccine is necessary. if the pox get into the eyes it can lead to permanent blindness. it also helps with shingles immunity...a very painful disease.
only if your eyes are rolling around in your head....lolol
my kids didn't get that one
*emphatically not saying tumeric is a phantom*
a couple of kids of friends of mine, got them in their eyes. she was nearly destroyed...when my kids so young, the vaccine was not available. us mums had to nurse each kid on a wing and a prayer. i had 9 weeks of it. one kid had it, he returned to school. the same day child number 2 came down with it. he went back to school...and the baby came down with it. the same happened with the german measles....except i had FOUR....then hubby came down with it after the kids were all well again.
am not sure which disease is which, to be honest. In translation, I mean. German measles? I mean the rather innocent 'pox'. The one you shouldn't scratch, but otherwise is hardly ever a problem.
rose, I have ov8. Is the other one a fish?
no, dearest. you might remember the word...i went nuts. ec8/50
german measles+ rubella
rubella... isn't that the one that can make girls go infertile? And if you are pregnant when getting it, it may blind your child?
thanks darling *thinking*
for goodness sake! tomorrow is green waste collection...it is 8:15pm...and he is tearing around the front yard with a lawn-mower. and now he has asthma...
silly Don!
yes, sprite. that's the one. it actually causes birth defects.
I've had Caya vaccinated against that. And Tim against mumps. I think... mumps being the one that can turn boys infertile? The one that swells your glands?
so when first hubby had it, i had to keep him home, as a lot of the women were immigrants, and the possibility of them being pregnant was enormous.
one of Agatha Christie's books is about that. The mirror cracked.
yes, sprite. mumps can also cause blindness. hence in the olden days, all the lights had covers over them in order to not 'excite' the senses
right. Then Tim got that one. The vaccination I mean, not the disease.
i remember my mother covered all the ceiling lights as my little bro had the mumps...and i never caught it...weird, huh?
yeah. Always unclear why some get it and others don't.
oh, on QI. a new abbreviation...OAS, only amused slightly, instead of lol
roflollllll I love it
ohhh I am reading books from QI atm. So many things we think we know and are totally wrong, lol. It is lovely.
ok I give. Rose, can you pls clue me the ec8? My last word and I cannot seem to find it.
ruby sent me some books. one written by p d james is a sequel to austin's pride and prejudice. what an amazing read. it is called 'death comes to pemberley'
sounds like rubbing something out. ec + egyptian sun god + plural letter + french word for sister, si***
right. French ending. Should have realised. Thanks darling. Fireflies.
WTG SPRITE!!!
I think I know that one, by pd james.
sprite, darling. what is on your plate today?
I think I am heading back to bed. A spot of laundry, me thinks, and making myself a huge pot of tea and some fruit for lunch... nothing else.
if i seem distracted....himself is sitting here in just his jocks...bless him
go grab him. Get rid of those jocks.
good, exactly as you deserve. revel in it, my darling
*hugs* darling. Am glad we got to catch up today :)
ummmm. did that this morning....
*grin* good. In that case, enjoy the view. Bye dear friend :)
so am i, sprite. a day without you leaves me desolate.

hello, trying to pay bills by phone on hol
hold8
lol...ruby...you poor thing...we changed to power and gas accounts to my name...i was on the phone for nearly 30 minutes. nothing is as simple as it seems. xoxox my dear
got one bill paid It is so difficult because of both my lack f organization and the fact that I have to do it in French
thank you for your letter {{rosie}}
My mom's gas bill is still in my dad's name because she didn't want to pay a transfer fee -- he died in 1986.
The painting, and also one of Ruffino, was done by a very talented neighbor, Louise Terrier. I used to be a painter, but haven't done much since I've been in France
ello seain!!
np's ruby. as i said to sprite. i think you and i need to set up a daily email contact. how do you feel about that?
hi, ruby and rose
i just got home a short bit ago.
I feel wonderful about that! I would even be up for a phone call, if you give me your number and a convenient time. It would be fun to call you and actually hear your voice!
seain...at least all the utilities are either in my name...or allow me to contact them.
I set up with Washington Gas to pay her bill online to save hassles.
aometimes, when I try to pay the phone bill by phone, they say their phones are out of order! France
seain...because i am now on a disbality pension...there is a significant reduction in the costs.
I used to have France Telecom as a customer -- that organization is a piece of work. Their internal systems used to go down in the 2nd week of August until the first Friday in September.
nice bene, that rose.
that is too funny, seain! They are both expensive and terrible
And, if you go to their office, they fast-talk you into accepting a bill of goods
The two guys i interfaced with that worked in a basement in Paris HQ, and could read and write, but barely spoke and barely could understand spoken English.
oy gevalt. Some things never change, i suppose.
From wwhat I hear from Fr friends, they say that EVERYBODY has to take some English in school but with my experience over 15 yrs here, NOBODY speaks or understands it. Luckily, my comprehension is very good except over the phone and with aural numbers
And with doctors and lawyers who definitely have had a lot of English, not one of them has spoken or understood English.
My poor husband couldn't last 5 minutes here with the combination of his innate shyness and his poor (non-existent) hearing
A HS friend of mine lives in Paris, and has for most of 15 years. He still can barely speak any French, and hardly comprehends it at all. He depends on wife and kids when he needs to interact outside of restaurants.
Morning all. I see that SMUR isn't a word here. Well, as there are many words for snow in Eskimo, so are there many words for drizzle in Scots!! Smur is that very fine misty drizzle that gets you very wet but is not heavy enough to warrant an umbrella. Vocabulary lesson over....in fact it's smurring right now !!
I am fluent but with a noticeable accent But everybody understands me and they don't seem to mind
It was smurring here all day yesterday
lolol...lizmac...lovely to see you
no smur here...unfortunately
Thank you Ruby for heeding my educational tidbit.
ach. I just looked outside and it's smurring again!
and hello lizmac
Hello all. I'm on my way out into the smur to do some shopping, so Hi and Bye.
an d bye to everyone. Must ee to old husband. I only succeeded in paying one bill.
hello, lizmac, be well ruby
we've had a great deal of wind tonight, as a major cold front is moving in. The clouds were stacked over the Blue Ridge big as the Rockies in layers that gradually blew through with the big gusts of wind. Exhilarating, fun wind.
i should endeavour to sleep afore the sun's up.
so, happy babbling, yall. see some of yall later.
Good morning everyone! Minus 20C with the wind this morn and heavy squalls drifting gently off the bay at 1000 miles per hour:)
Morning.
Boo is eating and drinking. Waiting to take him to the vet tomorrow, we got that nasty weather too.
I am glad he is eating and drinking once again. best thing is to keep a record of his pee and poop
Yep, he peed today already. Will be watching for the poop, since he just started eating a decent amount overnight and this morning.
That is well. water is so important for cats. Our first one got crystals in her urine and was peeing blood:(
I also added a little warm water to his wet food.
Pipe are banging due to the cold, keep me jumping.
between our three cats they drink about a litre of water a day
Boo seems to be back to drinking a lot too.
Just hoping it all stays down...
:( up north when it got below minus 30, we used to keep all the taps running just a tiny bit
The banging pipes is from lazy plumbers not installing enough braces
too much free-floating copper pipe
Well, this apartment was build in the 60s :)
Built
love the ones built in the 40,s. they used to use galvanized pipe. Stuff is solid as a rock
yaaaawwwwwn....'morning

proud momma moment: tertiare had her first home swim meet yesterday, and she killed it - what a fierce little scrapper that one is! Being of NO athletic ability myself, I marvel at my sporty fry.
Congrats.
yay! keep me posted on the schedule...we would like to come and cheer her on!
34 to go, will try and be back later.
will do. Trust me - it's HOT at meets. We were all dying....pretty sure half the crowd was sitting there in bra and panties by the end
I remember that from Tristan and Sarah's meets
Oh my God, you think she was embarrassed when you ran the school track in your bright green sneakers? Try watching a swim meet in your bra and panties.
LOL Molly! Good point!
I knew what was coming, molly - have had two previous swimmers. Wore a tee shirt and light dress.
she was more embarrassed by my and one other mom who started losing our MINDS as the meet ran late and came perilously close to Downton Abbey premier time....
*Wonders how many Dads were outed when they got down to their bra and panties*
you would be surprised molly....
<---- flashbacks to riding the T to work....
HAHAHAHAHAHA - I completely get that reference!
can I have a clue for the lone o please?
Like the sound a meditator makes
thanks! That's nbt for me
Sadly, I lost all interest in Downton Abbey last year. It just didn't seem as good as the first few seasons.
it was a rough season, that is for sure. The Anna storyline was a complete downer, and I dont' give a rat about lady Edith, so that was trying also.
It is interesting to see how women had to deal with various events in their lives, given the times, though...makes one rather grateful
The loss of O'Brien and the addition of Rose (blech) really put a dent in it for me.
Trif..do you still have an operational rug cleaner?
phantom: quiche
I agree Trif. I am always interested to see how things were at certain times in history.

hello all, taking a few moments now that I am done grading today's work.
{{hugs}} stiddy
hey GR
first day back was really good. We had a mega-storm that washed out a bunch of roads starting about 5 miles farther west of the school.... but spared the roads 'twixt there and home! :-)
How about you? done mopping up from your storm?
how are you today, sweetie?
it missed our home completely. just had a bit of a sprinkle and some high winds. cool change was very welcome.
so lucky
but it did look nasty for a while.
LOL Love the 12-hour shift when we decide to think and type at the same time!
*giggle*
I wish "rofl" counted.... it was the first thing I saw!
we have sat around all day waiting for mechanic to call to say motorbike was ready to be picked up. the center is an hours drive away. they have just phoned and now it's too late to collect it today. *sigh *
bummer. First thing tomorrow though... VROOM VROOM VROOM
now i know what shape tomorrow is, and it's not good. i couldn't start any of my usual chores in case i had to 'run' out of the door.
well not quite first thing, have to wait for diuretic to wear off. strangely, there are no 'girl' trees on the freeway.
*grin* no girl trees..... roflmao!
so today's work + tomorrow's work = workout! *looking on the bright side* Tom is baking banana bread. I am quite giddy about it...
well there aren't any...i keep looking and never spot a one.
oh, yum. good on ya Tom!!
yep. Love this guy....
well.... down to 50. Not bad for a school night. I'll be back later this week, I suspect! Have a great evening/day all! *poof*
have a good one stiddy. xoxox
