5:58 am

5:59 am

Hi sprite.

5:59 am

how are you doing?

6:00 am

Not bad actually, other than being cold.

6:00 am

How about you?

6:01 am

no way to dress for the cold? Or move until you are warm? Great to hear you are doing ok. I am fine. Joints are hurting and swollen, but it seems it is going down a bit now.

6:01 am

A bit warmer this morning, only -14

6:01 am

'only' lollll. Pretty cold still!

6:02 am

I'm doing better wearing more layers and a throw over my knees is needed.

6:02 am

After -30 it seems like balmy weather

6:02 am

We are supposed to be in for one more really cold week and I notice in March the temperature starts going up.

6:03 am

I bet. It is long ago we had temps like that. If ever. Layers works best for me too.

6:03 am

And, I find my flannel pajama bottoms are much warmer than my yoga pants :)

6:03 am

hahaha! Good for you!

6:05 am

I can't wait until I'm complaining of being too hot :)

6:05 am

*giggles* The circle of life!

6:06 am

We really didn't have a summer last year, lets hope this is a decent one.

6:08 am

Good morning everyone. Nice day today; it is only minus 12:)

6:09 am

Hi crossy.

6:09 am

Howdy, Sukee.

6:10 am

hi crossy :) Positively tropical!

6:11 am

I must confess, I'd rather be too cold than too hot. I can regulate too cold in some ways. Too hot, not so much.

6:11 am

With my thyroid, I'm very sensitive to extremes in temperature.

6:12 am

not easy to live with, I bet

6:13 am

I have been taking pills since I was 17 so you would think I would be used to it.

6:13 am

yeah well, you can get used to everything as long as it is constant. Things that fluctuate are much harder.

6:14 am

True, it has been fluctuating a lot lately and the doctor has changed my dosage a few times. I guess that is partly to do with age.

6:15 am

probably. Hormone levels will be different, for one. Our whole metabolism changes too.

6:16 am

I'm sure crossy wants to hear all about hormones :) How is your wife's headache?

6:17 am

whoot!!! {{hugs}} sprite.

6:17 am

Hi Rose.

6:17 am

rose, my dear friend :) *hugs* How was your visit?

6:18 am

it was lovely. we catch up with a lot of old friends when we go to this guy's party.

6:19 am

how wonderful, sweetie. It feels so liberating, doesn't it? Being out late, having fun, having a drink or two.

6:20 am

col....that was what don said on the way home. isn't it nice to e able to go out and not to have to rush home.

6:20 am

lol, sukee. it is ok, I am married. Been dealing with hormones all my life. I like the ask the mrs if it is hot and cold enough for her these days:)

6:21 am

he is so right :)

6:21 am

hahaha crossy! Indeed.

6:22 am

brb, still getting ready for bed.

6:22 am

6:26 am

6:28 am

WTG SPRITE!!!! abd back

6:28 am

ugh...* and *

6:32 am

wb :)

6:33 am

what shape is your day, sprite?

6:34 am

not sure yet, sweetie. Am in a lot of pain today, joints are hurting so much. Guess I overdid things yesterday. But swelling of my hands is going down a bit now.

6:35 am

poor you, hin. you didn't do gym yesterday did you?

6:36 am

no, intended to but shopping took too much out of me

6:36 am

I actually didn't make a dessert yesterday, told my family I would do it today. Couldn't be on my feet a minute longer after cooking dinner. Sucks huh?

6:36 am

just as well then. that you didn't go. xoxox

6:37 am

yeah. Maybe tomorrow. And otherwise Monday. Ah well. Can't win them all ;)

6:38 am

oh, and btw,? physio has made don promise he is going to get the new car this week. yay!!!!

6:39 am

very good! I hope you called the ortho then.

6:39 am

sprite, when you have nothing else to do, honey. that is probably the best time for gym.

6:39 am

ortho not open until next monday....;-P

6:41 am

yes, I think so too. My love just told me off for forgetting to take out Terra's food from the freezer. He really does not get it, does he... I was barely functioning at the point, fed Terra and finished cooking anyway... but do you think he understands I couldn't think anymore? Nahhh.

6:42 am

bad rose. That is a whole week longer than you promised, lady.

6:45 am

i don't know sprite. don doesn't get it usually, but he is learning. when i ask what pain meds he has taken for his migraine, he feeds back to me...what did you tell me to take? so he know understands that when you are in pain, logical thought processes fly out of the window. so he is a lot more understanding when i am in tears because it's so sore.

6:47 am

that is a good thing coming out of a bad thing, at least. I guess I can live with Rob not understanding, if it means he doesn't have to battle chronic pain.

6:47 am

you know sprite, if you finished cooking the meal then left them to eat on their own, by retreating to the lounge, bedroom wherever, it might make him realise just how hard it is for you to function when your body is on fire.

6:49 am

right. And I do all I can to prevent that, because I don't want them to feel bad about me cooking dinner.

6:50 am

you could always eat a little later, telling him the pain had settled enough for you to be able to eat.

6:51 am

stuff it, sprite. if he can't see how hard you are struggling he needs a darn good shake. i'm surprised after the way he came home so quickly when you were having the panic attacks.

6:51 am

some fridays I am fine, cooking dinner and feeling pretty good afterwards. And some, it is a mess from the get-go.

6:51 am

and why shouldn't the kids help prepare the meals. it would be good life experience for them.

6:52 am

My love is usually very good about things, always willing to help and wanting to be understanding. But he is human, lol. Sometimes he is a total jerk.

6:52 am

i hear you love. it just makes me want to scream when someone needs a hand, and the nearest and dearest doesn't get it.

6:53 am

the kids don't have much time, rose. With school and work, there isn't much left. And Rob and I want them to spend that little bit on their friends and hobbies. THey do cook meals in vacations.

6:54 am

* sigh * you are such a good mum. me?? i would have hauled them into the kitchen, and handed the list of how to prepare whatever.

6:54 am

ikr! And the worst thing is, my friend Cobi who was gonna stay for a couple of days, is ill and cannot come. Such a bummer for us both. She says the same thing as you do. Makes her spitting mad when my kids or husband can't be bothered to make me a cup of coffee, or lunch, when I am in pain.

6:55 am

oh, dear...you had better warn Rob and the kids to take to the hills when i come over. can you imagine?? cobi and me?? spitting mad??

6:55 am

but I understand very well how people can become fed up with the constant care a chronically ill person needs. My kids and husband are caretakers, and that takes its toll. I understand how they need to be jerks every now and then.

6:56 am

ouch ouch ouch, lol! You and Cobi, that would be a 2-women-army for sure

6:57 am

lol....you should hear don. the way he tells it he has to do everything, including feeding me and dressing me...for goodness sakes!

6:58 am

sprite, kids and spouses the world over take care of chronically ill parents/spouses. they actually grow up to be very nice adults.

6:59 am

lol you know, I sometimes think things would be easier if that were true. Now, we can certain things for ourselves...and some days we can do even more... and other days we can't do a thing. I mean, WE are finding it confusing. Imagine how it looks from the outside.

6:59 am

and your care is not every day. it's just when the pain becomes aggravated.

7:00 am

oh yes, I know, rose. But it is demanding. It takes its toll. Doesn't have to be a bad thing, but I feel that I should recognise that.

7:00 am

exactly sprite.

7:02 am

ok, time for me to lie down for a bit. *hugs* to you, rose, and crossy and sukee too. And to all, a blessed day and a peaceful night. In any order.

7:02 am

sprite you do recognise that, it's your dearly beloved who is having a tad of a problem recognising when you are in great need. could you have some sort of signal? like a word or gesture or something not in it's usual place, which would pull him up mid-stride and think...huh??

7:02 am

rest well, my darling. xoxox

7:03 am

that is a good idea. Will talk it over with him :) Thanks darling.

7:05 am

like tieing a brightly coloured scarf to the front door.

Oh great Ivesy, now I'm whistling

it will stay with you all day molly

9:36 am

I love to hear the Military Bands

9:37 am

i do too. they are great..i love band music.. the old time ones

9:37 am

That isn't the Marine Corps hymn. The Marine Corps hymn is From The Halls Of Montezuma

9:39 am

... they whistled the COLONEL BOGEY MARCH over the River Kwai

9:40 am

Which to me, will ever be the second grade incarnation of "Comet, It Makes Your Teeth So Green..."

9:41 am

United States Marine Corps Hymn - Semper Fidelis - googled, is this incorrect?

9:44 am

and yes, you're right dose, gosh, I should know that - old memory isn't what it was

9:44 am

Yeah, sort of. But it's not what they whistled in Bridge Over The River Kwai

9:45 am

Morning

9:48 am

Car, have you gotten an axe and gone all Jack Nicholson in The Shining yet?

9:48 am

Very close...

9:49 am

I commend you then. I would have gone around the bend two snow storms ago.

9:49 am

Today, we must try to climb the moutains at the end of the driveways and make them lower so we can see when we pull out.

9:50 am

I have very little desire to do this project, not to mention I am in a lot of pain already with my back.

9:50 am

And how, pray tell, do you do that? And please tell me that ALL FOUR of you will be hard at work.

9:50 am

But, alas, it must be done before the storm comes this afternoon.

9:51 am

Yes, all four of us. Climb the mountains with shovels and try to push the snow into the yard.

9:51 am

Not good. There is nothing worse for a bad back than shoveling snow.

9:52 am

Well, nothing can be done about that right now. It has to be done.

9:58 am

I hope it doesn't make what is wrong with your back worse. I would say don't over do it, but that seems pointless with that much snow.

10:00 am

I can think of other things not to do with a bad back

10:00 am

Do you Joso much anymore, flosey? I have not seen him on in ages:(

10:04 am

It is coming along well, MLF. My final exam is Monday, then I shall be able to get back to finishing my novel

10:04 am

no Crossy, he seems to have dropped out of Babble - miss him

10:04 am

10:05 am

4th column E anyone?

10:12 am

seems like achuse should be an allowed plural - I mean, if the needle case has alternate spellings, why not?

10:13 am

It makes me look really smaht when I spell a phantom word wrong.

10:13 am

uusue: how are things?

10:14 am

ok, car; Frank finished his 12 chemo treatments, and his PET scan was good, but his cancer markers in his blood were still up, so he's starting on a maintenance chemo regime

10:14 am

ugh. My prayers are with you always. You two are so strong.

10:15 am

any one else here as annoyed as I am over the Brian Williams fiasco --- the tw 5 reminded me. I find it really upsetting that the twits that tw 5 on twitter are now defining who and what we see on the news. So he was guilty of exaggerating and possibly sensationalism -- name me a reporter that isn't!

10:15 am

thanks, car; it doesn't always feel like it (it's been a very long slog)

10:15 am

I really hate the social media appears to be calling the shots

10:15 am

I try not to pay attention.

10:16 am

It certainly has, uusue.

10:16 am

nan, the other thing I find interesting is that it may very well not have been intentional on his part - studies of memory have shown that it is very unreliable, especially when we are remembering traumatic events

10:16 am

I don't think he did it intentionally.

10:17 am

Social media is like one giant gossip fest. I have no use for it.

10:17 am

I suppose the twits would have been happier had he been in the copter that was shot down rather than just fired upon

10:21 am

I thought Obama was bang on when he told Sony not to bow to N. Korea's dictates -- don't think NBC should have bowed to the gossips either

10:23 am

continuing in the needle case vein - I think kewee should be an acceptable alternate spelling for kiwi, too

10:23 am

oh sue -- don't think we should go there!

10:23 am

And we can use PREEST too

10:23 am

:-)

10:24 am

Hello, babblers, mostly I lurk, but I just had to join this discussion about social media, which i detest and take no part in. But it's not just the social media that determine what appears in the news. The mainstream press is also guilty of manipulating events (though I don't think that Brian Williams was guilty of that). I strongly urge you to read the article in this link for demonstration of that: http://honestreporting.com/must-read-m\natti-friedman-on-the-medias-obsession-\nwith-israel/

10:26 am

Brian Williams I think got what he deserved

10:26 am

Help please with ME 6/21?

10:27 am

he's supposed to be above creating fictional stories on the air isn't he nan?

10:27 am

Sorry, I need the second ME 6/21.

10:28 am

10:29 am

this grid has some interesting (and sometimes frustrating) symmetries - the top row and the left column, for instance

10:29 am

that's the only one I have car

10:29 am

how are you on how Al Gore created the internet?

10:29 am

Oh no doubt that biased mainstream media is responsible for countless untruths.

10:30 am

YOU MEAN AL GORE DIDN'T CREATE THE INTERNET??? I am crushed.

10:30 am

not according to Al

10:31 am

Al Gore did not create the internet, but he was instrumental in spearheading the funding for it near the beginning (which, if you read what he actually said and not what people said he said, is in fact what he said). Personally I think he deserves credit for that, not ridicule.

10:31 am

ty LWG!

yw car

10:32 am

<--not a big Al Gore fan

10:32 am

What an inconvenient truth. Next you will be telling me there is no global warming and I will have to return my THE SKY IS FALLING t-shirt.

10:32 am

don't believe in global warming, ru?

10:33 am

Undoubtedly, Molly, but those untruths quite literally affect war and peace in vast areas of the world.

10:33 am

fw and off for breakfast and the morning news

10:33 am

I'm on the fence about that nan..but the changes in the polar regions are concerning

10:33 am

Congrats!

10:34 am

I am on the fence about that too...I think there is a definite human factor, but the Earth clearly has gone through major climate changes on its own.

10:34 am

yes and the expansion of the deserts around the world.

10:34 am

Global warming is real, as is ocean acidification from the excess carbon dioxide. But you have to look at the whole globe, and remember that weather is not climate - the long-term changes are, so far, fairly subtle. But they won't stay that way. And ruru is right about the polar regions; they are warming much faster.

10:36 am

I don't think the pollution we create is the entire cause - I think scientists are correct when they say it is part of the earth's cycle that has been going on for millenium -- but I think both are contributing factors and that global warning does exist

10:36 am

source: I used to teach about this, and researched it quite extensively. The physics of it is actually fairly straightforward; it's figuring out how the climate (a very complex system) will be affected that gets complicated.

10:37 am

ok - that's established - now who is going to come up with a viable solution that the entire world can agree and act upon?

10:37 am

It is certainly true that the global climate goes through cycles anyway, but that doesn't mean that what we do (particularly taking hundreds of millions of years of carbon storage out of the ground and putting it into the atmosphere over a few decades) doesn't matter.

10:38 am

Nan, You summarise the situation quite succinctly and accurately.

10:39 am

I used to point out to my classes that asteroids have occasionally struck the earth, and caused great destruction; that doesn't mean that it would be OK for us to drop atomic bombs all over the place, even if the destruction would be less than a (natural) asteroid.

10:40 am

Boy, that's the tough part, nan; I know what needs to happen, but I don't see any way of actually accomplishing it. I have resigned myself to the idea that we are going to have to live with the consequences of our actions. I do not envy the younger generations.

10:40 am

Anyway, I will stop lecturing (hard for us professors, even if retired!) as I have a meeting to go to. See you all later!

10:42 am

I am just so annoyed with our PM for dragging his feet on cleaning up the environment in Canada. So what if we don't contribute more than an eyedropper full of pollution compared to the likes of China --- it is the responsibility of every single country to clean up their act no matter how large or small.

10:42 am

that I agree with..

10:43 am

TY uusue for your input.

10:43 am

AMEN Cybernan.

10:43 am

I've often thought that to inimise human effect on the environment, we need to revert to the way of life practiced in the earlier part of the 19th century: no industry (so no factories spewing noxious fumes into the air), no automated transportion. If we could figure out how to marry that with modern plumbing, refrigeration, and communication, we'd be all set. ;-)

10:43 am

well said suze. All we have to do here to see the ravages of global warming is to travel north of the tree line and watch thousands of miles of perma-frost acreage turning into a useless crater-fill muddy morass.

10:44 am

I think there is a way jrs --- we need to look at the lobbyists promoting the use of fossil fuels and blocking universal development and use of alternate power sources.

10:46 am

and, crossy, to stand at the foot of a glacier in the ice fields and see that it as receded twice as far in the last decade as it did in the 100 years prior to that.

10:46 am

yes, that is a clear indicator as well.

10:47 am

Of course, nan, you're correct. But my fear is that the alternate power sources will have their own as yet unforeseen problems.

10:47 am

Hell, there is water open in the far north that has never seen a ship before. Heck as we speak the soviets and Canada are fighting for shipping lanes already on this previously inaccessible area:(

10:48 am

we won't know until we try though

10:50 am

This big mirrored solar collectors in the desert for example. seems they are flash frying the birds right of the air if the media is reporting it correctly

10:51 am

around here a lot of the new housing developments are incorporating thermal energy - initial house prices are a little higher but the savings over 10 years more than compensate for that

10:53 am

10:57 am

I've heard of that, crossy, but I don't recall reports of how many birds are affected. As you say, there's no consequence-free energy.. Theermal energy is very appealing, nan, but, and this may sound very silly and naive, I can't help but wonder if it's not akin to something like a slow leak in a tire - eventually the contents fizzle out completely, and we're left with a collapsed outer shell.

11:00 am

Sorry, folks but it was a Brit who invented the internet, didn't capitalise on it and got knighted for his efforts.

11:01 am

Iceland has been heated by thermal energy for years and I don't think they are worried about the heat source cooling any

11:01 am

11:02 am

I thought that the beginnings of the internet went back to WWII. after that, though, I'm clueless as to who did what.

11:16 am

Oh, of course. I thought I knew that word! Thx.

11:17 am

No, I think you are right, crossy. It comes from a bean and once used to used to speed up childbirth

thanking my lucky stars for my library.......... they mail me books , dvds , cds

11:46 am

why don't you get an e-reader sam -- you could download books from your library

what do you think of the new NCIS, the one in New Orleans?

11:47 am

don't watch it - nor the LA one

11:47 am

i understand jaxx... my sam and julia (on my icon) insist that they dont get much nourishment until they come to g'nana's house .. ( they are actually my great grandkids)... they dont look too skinny to me though

11:50 am

ya think? but I'm not too fond of the woman who replaced Ziva.

11:50 am

Somehow, I'm not seeing SMom as an e-reader person.

11:51 am

For those that have been following it, I had added a fresh column to my Daily Musings web site. Check it out if you wish. it is nothing but me playing around, but I enjoy it. http://crosshairmusings.webs.com/

11:52 am

what is an e reader

11:53 am

we 5/22 please?

11:53 am

An e-reader is reading book text on a small electronic device. Like Kindle.

11:54 am

except that kindle doesn't support .epub files so you can't download from your library. You are better off with a sony or a kobo

11:55 am

i would have one if i could afford it molly.. i want one that lights up so i can read in bed though

11:55 am

Ah, I was wrong SMom. You struck me as a person who loves real books.

11:55 am

harder on the eyes, sam -- you are better off getting one with no backlighting - most of the cases for them have a place to insert a book light.

11:56 am

I do not think Barnes and Noble make their Nokk readers anymore, but if you can find one they are very good as well

11:56 am

Nook*

11:56 am

I have one with and one without backlighting

11:56 am

kobo had their basic reader (no backlight) on sale at their website for $70 not long ago

11:57 am

i do molly and the new technology baffles me and sometimes irritates me, but number 2 daughter has a kindle and it looks like something i could deal with............course i couldn't throw it at walter when he irritates me.......................

11:57 am

And getting one that supports E-pub files is a must as all libraries loand books in that format and pdf i believe

11:57 am

isn't th backlit one just like looking at a computer screen, crossy?

11:57 am

Alost, cybernan

11:58 am

almost

11:58 am

there aren't as many books available in pdf as there are in epub at our library

11:58 am

I prefer the one with no backlight and just just get a clip on booklight for night reading

11:58 am

speaking of walter, he turned 89 yeaterday

11:58 am

agreed, crossy

11:58 am

congrats to walter - happy birthday

11:59 am

ty

11:59 am

Aw, Happy Birthday to Walter. SMom, I have a Kindle and rarely if ever use it. I like to turn a real page, and use a real bookmark and feel a book in my hands.

12:00 pm

I would never buy a kindle -- only place you can get books is if you buy them from kindle

12:00 pm

anyone have a clue for the we 5/22 please?

12:01 pm

I am a big supporter of E-readers simply because you can adjust the font. My wife had been unable to read a book for nearly a decade before these readers hit the market.

12:01 pm

And yes, I know of large print books but the title selection is very, very limited

12:01 pm

Yeah, Kindles usually get trashed here.

12:01 pm

does she find the backlit one easier?

12:01 pm

me too molly..love my library

12:02 pm

Kindles are ok if you are content with a single proprietary source for your material

12:02 pm

I love my kindle and it downloads from my public library.

12:02 pm

other than the library

12:02 pm

that is something new then granny -- good to know

12:02 pm

so kindle does support epub now?

12:02 pm

good day!!! anybody remember me??

12:03 pm

My Kindle was a gift from my kids, who know that I enjoy reading. So I treasure it.

12:03 pm

hi mamabear - long time no see

12:03 pm

I have heard rumors of it, but cannot confirm it, cybernan

12:03 pm

hi nan!! how you be?

12:03 pm

Howdy mamabear. yes, i remember you

12:03 pm

The problem is it's very hard to get a recently published book since there aren

12:03 pm

12:03 pm

hi mamabear

12:04 pm

I have no problems getting new titles. there are many sources.

12:04 pm

As I was trying to type - there aren't many copies of newly published books availabe. However, the list is extensive if the book has been out a while.

12:04 pm

we and three sonsonants all in the left corner

12:04 pm

and My digital library copies have a fast turn around as to availability

12:05 pm

you can't borrow them for 3 weeks?

12:05 pm

I have to check. Think I can loan them for two weeks from my library

12:05 pm

(not that I need any of them for more than one unless it is a series)

12:05 pm

how many times has anyone else tried "kept"?

12:06 pm

we 5/22 is my last word ----- pleeeese can I have a clue?

12:06 pm

12:27 pm

i got it because I needed the touch screen. My first gen nook had page turn buttons instead and as of now they are mostly worn right out:(

12:49 pm

Just tried coconut milk in my coffee. Seemed like a good idea, but doesn't taste very good.

What? Are you and Mr. Judi playing Gilligan's Island?

2:14 pm

2:14 pm

The very idea of coconut mixed with coffee makes me urpy

2:14 pm

almond milk might have worked better...

2:15 pm

Hate almond milk. And soy milk.

2:15 pm

2:34 pm

Bwa ha ha, Molly. I give you Ro5/14. You'd pick a cat over that any day.

2:35 pm

Not likely. I'm not fond of cats.

2:36 pm

Allergic?

2:37 pm

No

2:37 pm

Well, they're not for everyone. Personally, I prefer animals over children.

2:39 pm

And I am just the opposite. I like small people.

2:41 pm

But there are plenty of people who don't like kids.

2:42 pm

I suppose I like kids well enough. I just never wanted to give birth to or raise any.

2:44 pm

I know people like that. Most of them have animals that they refer to as "their babies"

2:44 pm

That would be me and hubby.

3:03 pm

Hello everybody :-)

3:03 pm

Hiya, Soodle!

3:05 pm

Judi, some would say I have the best/worst of all worlds.... 3 kids, 2 dogs, a cat & a budgie (called Babble).

3:07 pm

lol. Sounds like a full house, Soodle.

3:08 pm

Stomach growling. Time for a snack. *POOF*

3:11 pm

I spent the most glorious afternoon with my Dad today. An old buddy of his - also aged 87 - came to visit him in the Nursing Home today, armed with a bottle of Jameson whiskey. The 2 boyos wandered down memory lane, fuelled with the whiskey. It all ended up in a sing-song, with several of the other residents contributing. It truly was a special day.

3:15 pm

Sounds like fun Soods

If there was a "like" button in here, i would use it on your comment, Soodle. Very special indeed!

3:17 pm

Thanks Diane! :-)

Tomorrow would have been my Dad's 102nd birthday. He died 34 years ago and I still miss him daily.

3:21 pm

My father died at 82 and not a day goes by that I don't think of him

3:24 pm

I always give thanks that I still have both parents. But an afternoon like today really brings it home just how lucky I am. Your Dad died young, Diane. And, Bich,I understand how you still feel the loss.

He was 67

I have quite a bit of his music on my computer and when I play it, I just smile and he's right with me. ( I can even hear him humming in the background as he plays the piano )

3:50 pm

hi, folks

Hi "neighbor" :-)

I can't imagine being without my parents, now 84 and 82 but I can imagine all the things that will change. I will not look at my music in the same way either as my mom is the musician in the family and it's because of her that I have the musical gifts that I share with others. My dad has always be one to stay in the background, never a hugger and never one to say I love You but I have always known he did both in his own way. My mom suffered a brain injury a couple of years ago and things are so different with both of them; in a sense I'm already losing them slowly and it's a little easier but I still dont want want to imagine them not on the other end of the phone when I call. Hugs to you Diane!

Just love every moment with them mcurl...ups and downs. My mom died 8 years ago at age 85, and she was just 18 years older than I am.

I have a feeling I'll have a few more years as my grandmother lived until 1 month before her 100th birthday and my great grandmother was 94. My father has already lived past his expectations as his father passed away at 64. They are all a blessing all the time :-)

You will still cherish your music I know.... it will be a comfort and I know that first hand !!

You are right. her favorite songs to play on the piano will be the hardest; I still cry every time I play my grandfather's favorite How Great Thou Art which makes it even more special.

I have one dear old lady at the nursing home who asks for that every time I play the piano there, and of course, I play it!

I just read your profile.... nice. I can tell you are very proud of your family.

4:08 pm

I loved your little post about your da and his mate getting together at the nursing home and reminiscing over a bottle of whiskey, Soodles. I picture a nice Tullamore Dew commercial:)

4:13 pm

I wish we had a Little Ceaser's here. Seems they are now offering a bacon pizza with a bacon wrapped crust..mmmmmmm

Hi crossy.

4:14 pm

4:15 pm

Hi Crossy and all. Just working on the grid in the blue-skied, 40 degree day here in the great Northwest. Jacket weather.

Hi stidmere :-)

Hi, peri :-)

4:17 pm

Hi GMere & Peri. Belated birthday wishes, Peri. I hope you were well treated on your special day. :-)

4:17 pm

ty soodle and I was

4:17 pm

Hi diane! This is the kind of weather in which a nice bowl of popcorn is welcomed. I think there is probably a limit to how much popcorn one can consume with the constantly snowing, cold days, though.

We are in Arizona for a few months, stidmere. I honestly miss the snow though!

We get plenty of snow in Alberta.

4:20 pm

Oooh? Popcorn? Popcorn is for Movie nights. One flake of snow & I'm rushing off to make soup. Hearty vegetable soup!

4:20 pm

Glad for you in Arizona, diane. I love the warm colors of the stones in the southwest.

4:20 pm

Now what could be nicer than vegetable soup with popcorn?

There was some snow on those red rocks on our drive down, and actually , the contrast is quite beautiful.

4:22 pm

GMere...you might be on to something there.... Popcorn Soup! Hmmm

4:24 pm

We used to get the magazine Arizona Highways and loved the views.

It can be quite beautiful once one gets over the fact that one NEEDS green to be so. Their mountains are small, but pretty. Some of the cacti are budding out and with the rain there has been this year, I'm sure they will be awesome!

4:28 pm

I plan on brewing up a beef barley soup in the crock pot for tomorrow. have an roast of Angus beef and I am looking forward to at least 3 meals plus the soup out of it:)

love beef and barley soup!

4:39 pm

5:08 pm

yes, I did. Then I refulsed and I was paroled.

5:10 pm

bad Annie.. (-: but you survived anyway!

5:10 pm

There is something seriously wrong with making a child drink that stuff

5:10 pm

Molly, I agree...a mild form of child abuse?

5:10 pm

well, parents thought they were doing the right thing..

5:12 pm

Um, no. No one in their right mind could possibly have thought that was the right thing.

5:12 pm

maybe they didn't try it themselves?

5:13 pm

That is probably what their parents gave them.

5:13 pm

in our spare time, we can research the logic behind the Rx of that stuff

5:14 pm

Annie, I'm going to go with child abuse since the stuff has ricin in it.

5:14 pm

maybe some foofoo research like the one behind the MMR vaccination scare

5:16 pm

Ricin is derived from the castor oil plant as well.

5:17 pm

Yikes. They were trying to kill me.

5:17 pm

hi jaxx :)

5:17 pm

I believe castor oil is poisonous as well, nothing like Ricin of course. It was thought to make you 'regular'

5:20 pm

There was some logic in that scare. Some children have immature immune systems and three vaccines together did over load their systems. now, I believe there are 4 and more mixed together.

5:20 pm

5:20 pm

hi jaxx and hi to harpjane having internet probs.. might have to go

5:20 pm

Hi, Aloy and harp

5:22 pm

Was hoping to have a quiet evening at home after a busy, bustling day at the shop. Alas, floor sander still running...sigh...

5:22 pm

Ear plugs?

5:23 pm

Not even sure that would help.

5:24 pm

headphones with soothing music playing?

5:24 pm

That would work!

5:25 pm

better than floor sander noise.

5:25 pm

Indeed!

5:26 pm

hi Bzzn.. how goes the temp in your neighborhood?

5:27 pm

So Bea, no one greeted you at the door with your slippers and a cocktail, sweetly saying "Dinner is almost ready"?

5:27 pm

Warmed up a bit today. High was above freezing. 36F I think.

5:28 pm

Positively tropical then. lol

5:28 pm

As soon as I quit rofl, I will answer that question, Molly.

5:29 pm

Tropical, maybe. I'm just hoping all water faucets are functioning properly.

5:29 pm

5:30 pm

5:31 pm

Babble blindness

5:32 pm

No carbs, Doren?

8:01 pm

Actually had a bite or two the other night in Vegas at the Southern place (Yardbird) but it wasnt all that good, so I didn't bother wasting the carbs, calories, etc.

8:02 pm

Trying to keep them to bare minimum Bz. Actually flirting with the idea of the cabbage soup thing just for a week, but I know it's unrealistic.

8:02 pm

I had crab cakes and savinieres last night

8:02 pm

i've been thinking a lot about crab cakes lately.

8:02 pm

what are savinieres?

8:03 pm

Dry chenin blanc

8:03 pm

ah.... big fan of chenin blanc. i'm sure it was lovely with the crab cakes.

8:04 pm

One of my favorite movies is about to begin on PBS.. 4 weddings and a funeral.

8:26 pm

8:26 pm

I love cabbage soup but not for losing weight

8:26 pm

bye again :)

8:27 pm

I just read a really good essay about women and how they use the word "fat". It's a shame people are so weight obsessed these days.

8:44 pm

I have the five letter word for the easternmost e. Might I trouble you for a clue for the other one for that tile?

8:46 pm

plural?

8:50 pm

Oh. yes. quite. >><< >>

8:50 pm

Oh. yes. quite. >><< >>

8:51 pm

But they were both such ridiculous words that I only enter them under protest.

8:53 pm

8:57 pm

howdy

9:06 pm

hi

9:06 pm

how goes it, penquis?

9:07 pm

ok, thanks....and you?

9:19 pm

sorry... got distracted talking to a co-worker

9:23 pm

no problem...

9:27 pm

discussing cases and random medical stuffs... i'm such a geek

9:34 pm

I have either 4 words or the maximum for every tile. Woo-hoo!

9:45 pm

not sure what you mean....

9:53 pm

Some tiles have less than 4 words. I have grayed them out. For every tile with 4 or more words, I have 4 words.

9:54 pm

ah....ok....never heard of looking at the grid that way....everyone plays in their own manner, with their own goals...

9:54 pm

I realize this is a little *cough* unusual, but that's me, and that's how I roll.

9:55 pm

oh it's fine....like i said, we all have our own approaches and measures of success....

10:03 pm

I think I'll do that with the words I have left, Douglas. Four words it is!

10:14 pm

ok did it.

10:14 pm

60 to go

10:15 pm

I just got 5 or max on every tile

10:16 pm

10:17 pm

It is tonight

10:17 pm

twerp

10:17 pm

It's amused me for hours.

I'm playing all the songs that were number one on my birthday. I'm up to 1983--Billie Jean.

10:27 pm

*sends chimp to harp's house*

10:28 pm

1984-Jump

10:30 pm

*sends Valerie bertinelli to harp's house*

10:30 pm

It's an interesting progression, to start with Doris Day and her ilk, and listen to how the songs changed a bit each year.

10:31 pm

Send Valerie Bertinelli to my house ..

10:33 pm

Can't Fight This Feeling.....

10:34 pm

you mean boston?

10:35 pm

*repacks Valerie and sends her to San Diego to torg's house*

10:35 pm

*PUTS in extra bubble wrap to be sure*

10:36 pm

It's getting to where I barely recognize the songs. I listened to a lot of public radio in the 80's.

10:38 pm

I really don't listen to music on the radio any longer either.

10:41 pm

I pretty much stick to jazz these days if i'm listening to the radio
