Hi and hugs Rose. On iPad, so won't be too chatty. How are you today?
hi Liz, hi rose
Hi Saani too.
doing well. saw GP. she was impressed that i had won the decision from the medical panel.
Hi everyone else too ;)
Impressed? Why? Did she not expect you to win?
hi saanichcat
* giggle * she has never had a patient who won before..
Still each case is individual.
oh dear all sorts of noise coming from the garage. and it sounds angry. i am NOT going out to check.
Take cover!
i have no id4 what he is doing, and i don't want to know. he has been snippish all day. i think he is building up to a migraine.
Oh dear! Tough for you. But migraines sound very nasty. Never had one thankfully.
hi Liz and Rose
Hi Flosey
i think it's a four bourbon night.
hi flosey
Is the tu 10 a common word?
nope, but it is a compound word
no really, at least to me, begins with the slow guy
I'd like to say that's helpful but as yet ...

Thanks! New word to be!
It's just been clued for me, angel.
see below, angel
Sorry about typos! Auto correct!
Angel, scroll back
apparently it is a plant belonging to the genus chelone
angel, did you find the tu10?
okay, angel has gone. hope she found it.
Finally half way. Seems difficult for a large grid.
ummmm...not boasting, really i'm not. i was 70 short after my first run through.
lots of more and most endings
That's awesome. The only help I've used so far is for the 10.
liz, i think i am becoming one of the old hands at this game. nothing like haz, sprite, dee , ruru....oh heaps of others. but for me to reach 332 with no help...i am chuffed to say the least.
You should be. I meant it when I sais awesome.
{{hugs}} dear liz girl. you know i am not one to blow my own trumpet. but i am astonished sometimes at what i can achieve.
I'm not surprised! Don't underrate yourself.
okay, himself seems to have calmed down somewhat. he just calmly asked me what time i want to eat. i think the crisis has passed. whew!! and inwardly chuckling.
Phew!
angel?? did you find the tu10?
i try very ha4 not to react to his dramatising of events.
Good for you but it must be ha4 sometimes.
Depends on how you're feeling.
i he4 you liz girl. but i am NOT going to take on his dramas...not unless i see them as life threatening.
Like I said, that's really good. Very few dramas here, except from me!
ah ha....a prima donna in our midst...self-confessed no less

Lol! Not often. Only tends to happen when I get frustrated if something I'm doing isn't working! Like my computer!

Catches it. Thanks :)

Did you get my Melbourne note?

Will do!
Replied!
thanx liz. and so did i...dinner ready...bbl. xoxox
Replied but hon appetite. Will probably be gone when you get back, so hugs.

good morning all! Nice sizable grid :D
Hello, Sprite, Not a bad size at all :-)
hi zooz *hugs* How are you, dear man?
I am well thank you :-)
Hope you are doing good too?
good to hear. Did you spend some quality time with your parents yesterday?
I am fine, thanks :)
I did indeed.Gave mother a card, flowers & chocolates for mothers day :-)
Was it mothers day there too?
awww sweet. Our mother's day is in May.
Ahh okay then :-)
Ahh okay then :-)
can't get any better gifts, that is for sure, zooz. A card, and flowers, and chocolate... and your company.
Good morning , everyone:)
hiya crossy :) How are you? And Mrs Elegant?
Sorry keep forgetting the babble freeze has changed to 10:00am here.
Hello, Crossy :-)
((sprite)) we are both fine. it is going to be a chore-filled day, but we are up early and have a bit of time yet to Babble and enjoy a coffee or tea:)
Howdy,Zooz
that is what you get for not doing DLT, zooz, lol.
ah, at least a good start of the day then, crossy
Ours change on the 29th March :-(
Yup, Just coming up to 6 am now, and we are due for an amazing sunny day of 6C!
wow, that is positively tropical.
ours too, zooz :D
We have all the living room windows open already:) Nice to get some air for a change instead of being frozen inside a box
I think it should be left alone now..farmers do not need this time change anymore...or do they?
What at 6c I would still have my windows firmly shut, Crossy!
Time change does not bother me one way or another:)
lol, zooz!
hellooooo. have taken meds so if i don't make sense please forgive.
My parents will still have their heating on in the summer when it is over 21c
((rose))) wow! just noticed that it is a big, chunky grid today.
Hello, Rose :-)
{{hugs}} crossy and zooz. enjoy the grid. i had a delightful time.
Only just started so have just 80 words..lol
How are you keeping, Rose?
hello my darling rose :) Email sent!
I dislike being in a room where the heater is at 21C. Too hot for me.
{{hugs}} darling sprite. himself has settled down. i swear...i was nearly ready to give him one.
Yes it cam get over bearing at times. But they are always cold..bless them.
was he being panicky, rose?
it is hard for elderly folks to keep warm. Best they can do, if physically able, is go for a walk every day.
nope, just snippy. all day...i don't know how i held onto my temper.
is he out of his sweet little mind? You need him to be supportive, not snippy at all.
sprite, he is male. full stop. no offence crossy and zooz.
Non taken -)
none*
thanx dear man
lol. Male is never an insult. Just an observation that yes, men are different from women and react in different ways.
Men are from Mars, women from Venus. it is all quite understandable:)
i just wish i knew which box he was in today. it didn't matter what i said or did, it was wrong.
exactly, crossy. As I have said before, read the books by the Peases. Delightful reading and so true. Saved many a marriage, those books.
vive la difference!!
ah, well. all quiet on the western front at the moment, and we are watching midsummer murders. so he is happy, and doesn't notice i am chatting here.
Also try Playboy's guide to the erotic massage:)
lol
rose, one of the differences is how we deal with problems. A typical male will feel like you need a solution when you share a problem with him. A typical female will feel like you need hugs and comfort. And when a man isn't able to produce said solution, he can become snippy. Out of frustration.
hello hello
lol crossy, yeah that too
That is what i refer to as the pickle analogy, Sprite.
Hello, Ruby :-)
hello ruby *hug* How is Burt doing? Is he back home already? And how are you holding up?
Men will open that pickle jar, while a woman want to tell him how it ruined her day because she could not get any pickles.
exactly that, crossy, exactly that!
How she broke a nail trying to get it open., how she had to cancel lunch with her friends, and dropped the jar on her foot...etc
The worst thing a man can do is waltz in and pop it open in 3 seconds!
you got it! And all she need from you is: "Uhuh... oh darling, how awful... aw darn it, come here, you deserve a hug!"
yup!
Burt came home on Saturday and is doing very well physically but is pretty confused about days, years, places. I hope it's just the pain meds!
and the mirror side is this: when a man has a problem, he is typically stewing on it and during that, he wants to be left in PEACE! No asking what is the matter, are you mad, is something troubling you... leave him be and when he is good and ready, he will tell you.
I learned of the "Pickle Analogy" in year 7 of our marriage:)
Morning all
And he awakened me at 4AM, thinking it was dinner time (aaarghh) I am tired beyond tired
Howdy, Sukee
((ruby))
hello sukee
am glad he came through it so well physically, ruby. Most likely the confusion is more than just the meds, he was confused going in already, alas.
hi sukee :) *hug*
you are a quick study, crossy, grin.
Yup...only took me 7 years...
I'm trying to be optimistic
poor ruby:((
most people never learn. Vive la differance, is a hard lesson to take in.
good girl, ruby, lol. So... how are you holding up? How is your ch5?
ch5 is much better than before, just a st***y 4-5 (with meds) but I think |I'll have to be very careful for a long time.
I think so too. Glad to hear you came down from top pain to moderate. Take care of yourself in the whole Burt mess, sweetie.
I wish this grid had been on Saturday when I had all day to do it :)
hokay.....it's just gone 9:30pm....i think i'll swan off to bed. xoxox to you all dear friends.
I agree, sukee, but yesterday would have been better
Hi Rose, bye Rose
and now it is time for Crossy's tidbit of the day!!
poor sukee! I actually have more time today than saturday. But I agree it is a weekend-sized grid.
In Quitman, Georgia, chickens may not cross the road.
thanx sprite and ruby for emails.
I answered your mail Rosie, TY
bye rose, sleep well, my dear friend.
lol crossy! Why the heck is that?
I have no idea! lol
Repressed chickens:(
maybe they jay-walk...
Going to be a lovely day today
I am picturing this legislator that was totally fed up with the question of why did the chicken cross the road?
to get from the left to the right of course;)
yeah well, you know legislators. That answer never entered his mind, of course.
Maybe only Yankee chickens can cross the road :)
lol sukee.
Or is that Georgia near Russia? :)
Someone actually emailed the town hall of Quitman asking about this chicken law, but they are awaiting a reply
there are so many absolutely crazy laws in the world.
I was going through some of our town archival pictures last time I was in the library, and we once had water fountains spread out along our main street for use by dogs and horses. Not just troughs, but actual fountains
aw that is sweet, crossy. Keeps the water much fresher
There were 6 of these units and they were removed in the 1920's. sadly, nobody knows where they ended up.
It would be lovely to have one of those old fountains in the garden (orr even a trough!).
oh yes!
They were a three-tiered affair with humans being able to get a dring off the top fountain
drink
Ilooked for a bench to cover with a mosaic of old, broken blue and white pottery and glass that \I've been collecting for years but could only find a trough. I've turned it over and now the trough and the shards just sit, collecting dust.
in time, ruby, in time. Right now you don't have the energy to spare.
What a lovely project to look forward to doing, when things slow down a bit for you
and hi again everyone - haven't slept a wink yet!!!
it will be there for you when you are ready
hi flosey, insomnia is a lady dog :(
it's nasty!
I once did a table top for the mrs with shards like that. it was from a "Blue Willow" dish set I dropped:( I had to make amends..fast!
I was going to tackle the grid before we left for Manchester and the funeral. It is a biggie so I won't start.
mayb this summer (although I've been saying that for a couple of years)
Howdy, Flosey
This grid is perfect for a sleepless night
hello jaxx and flosey.
aww jaxx... why not do a part? You can get the speedy part done. And a funeral? Someone close to you?
indeed it is, crossy . . . morning everyone :-)
Must go and serve the mister in the bed. I made veg soup for his lunch.
Howdy, Une:)
hi crossy, yes it is - will probably fall asleep in my easy chair while attempting to read
good luck, ruby
hi Une :)
Sprite" yesterday I went to "your" resto to pick up something for his lunch and they made me sit down, have a drink, and then comped me for his meal. Truly touching!!!!
nothing like a good book:))
aw ruby that is so sweet! They are truly lovely people.
how lovely, ruby!
I hear ya, crossy :)
bonjour une, haven't been in ch** much lately, but it's nice to see you and BTW, my dogs are now on a mostly-meat diet and their coats look magnificent. I keep my eyes peeled for furriers
I like your St Pat's icon, Une
it is nice that the locals are helping where they can, ruby
And I've learned that when people offer to help, I ask. I think it helps me and makes them happy
wtg ruby. Yes and yes, on both. A tough lesson to learn.
Furriers are mostly extinct here. The vast majority of the local population take a dim view of a lady waltzing around in a mink, ferret or harp seal coat
bet your pups are loving being majorly carnivores :-)
Although this country was built on just that with the Hudson's Bay Company being the oldest registered business we have
I hope it doesn't hurt them, but it's much easier for me
I have Terra on a pure meat di4. Full meat though, including a bit of pelt and bones and innards. Keeps him healthy as can be.
re asking for and giving help, yes, ruby, absolutely
Dogs need their meat
I can't stand it when people try to make dogs and cats vegetarian.
It is not good for them
I hear ya, sukee! Their digestive system is not made for that at all.
Then again, some of the same people don't let their kids get vaccinated either.
true, crossy -- lots of articles out there about how harmful it is
sukee LOL
oh my, found the 10. Niceeeee.
I think the anti-vaxxers are being a tad selfish when their choices affect other peoples health. I can see they are going to have to make it mandatory because of a select few who do not have common sense
Ruby, you've been in my thoughts - so very sorry for all that you're dealing with at the moment
Good morning! Wish we had this doozy yesterday!
hey, car :-)
hi car.ee :)
Well, when I was in school you had to get vaccines or you did not go to school. And we had to have a mandatory TB test too every year.
Anti-vaxxers should be forced to talk with a few people who lived through the polio epidemics of the 50's...
same here, sukee
indeed, crossy -- when i was 7 or 8 we had a neighbor -- young girl - in an iron lung -- so awful
yup. Those iron lungs have faded from our memories now, but it was a huge deal at the time
So many have a romantic idea of things like measles, don't realize how people did die and many lost sight, etc.
Was arguing with someone who was saying no one had died of measles lately, but I was trying to tell him that that was because most people were vaccinated... You can't win with some people.
It is my cousin. His 92 year old mother is my god mother. He literally died in and out of bed. He was clearly trying to get out. My Auntie is devastated as no-one should lose a child like that even if the child was 66
Indeed, sukeed. Yes, you are free to make your own choices for your children, but only up until the point where it threatens the health of other children in the area...
How awful. {{jaxx7}}
oh jaxx, am so so sorry. What a sad thing. *hugs*
((jaxx))
so very sorry, jaxx :-(
there was a fascinating programme on BBC 4 last night about the development of a vaccine for polio in America and the 'March of dimes'. It seems scientists work on the assumption that if, say, 86% of a population is vaccinated then the others will be covered too by contact.
Yes Herd immunity :) When enough people don't vaccinate they destroy it.
I heard that the number must be higher--in the ninetieth percentile for country-wide protection... but there are a lot of number floating around now
But common sense dictates that you get the vaccination
it is amazing the damage that one doctors error-filled report can do...
What we are finding in this country (and this is not racist but a fact) is that many of the immigrants have not been vaccinated in their own countries. When you go to A&E now they give you a booster shot for Diphtheria and other diseases. the Rate for measles has shot up here since the immigration rate increased.
here we find that many of the immigrants came from poor countries and they take all the shots they are offered. They have a very good memory of how horrible some diseases are and don't want to take the risk.
Not everybody has common sense, crossy, sadly
I must away folks, coffee awaits. Thanks for your condolences. i will be back like Arnie but not until Wednesday.
all the best, jaxx. Will think of you.
I'm off too, gym time.
have fun, sukee!
Hang in there.
HAGD sukee

Howdy, Annie:)
morning, crossy
biab. Must go hose down this mass of muscle and make myself presentable for the day:)
good morning dear friends
good morning, everyone!
Hi Trif and dawg :):)
Hi all :)
Hi Liz :)
morning, Annie, Trif and Liz
Rater
I'm so tired its not even funny.....ugh. Monday.
AND it's snowing again. Eyeroll
hectic weekend
sorry - I meant "it snowed" again....
Oh no!
hectic, but not in a good way...EVERYONE is sick. boo
Oh dear, not fun
Wish you all better, very quickly, Trif
apparently there is a such a thing as "snow mold" that causes severe allergy like symptoms. I am SO DONE with this winter.
thanks lizlin.
poor secondo - she has her first day of track season today. how are they supposed to run? Everything is frozen and slippery....apparently those training for the Boston marathon are facing the same problem.
all apologies friends - I realize how grumpy I am coming across today. Not my usual sunny self at all....Im' really sorry
We understand and sympathize. Had a lousy winter here in Brooklyn too. Weather from Hell.
You can have an "off" day - sounds like you need one. Spring will come soon for you.
Saturday is the first day of spring.
Well, officially yes, (though here, Autumn has already started - 1 March) but I meant in reality!
Liz, I forgot we are opposites. Interesting.
Even after 6 years here, I still get seasons muddled sometimes. Talk about July being next summer, when I logically know that it's winter here!
annie, my name is ElizaBeth, and the people at work call me Liz...for a second there I was "what? We are opposites?" lolol.
lol!
Trif, that post was for Liz. My daughter's name is Elizabeth.
I know, I figured it out
lol
It's a really good name. I like it very much.
Me too but I've been Liz for many many years now - only close family occasionally call me Elizabeth.
I love the name, Trif. She is also called Liz. I still call her Elizabeth at times.
I'm the other way, actually - I am never EVER called Liz, except at work - another legacy of the dragon lady. She REFUSED to call me ElizaBeth - said it took too long
Stupid woman! As a teacher, I always called the kids by the names that they wanted to be called - and the same would obviously apply to colleagues.
My Mom was an Elizabeth but no one ever called her that. She was Elaine
bah on the the dragon lady
okay, on a positive note: My White Flower Farm catalog came this weekend, and what a gift it was! I turned the pages SO SLOWLY, just imagining all the things I could plant, and where....
Hi bichon
morning, bichon
Just googled that Trif. it looks lovely.
true fact: My older daughter had a boy in her class that asked, in second grade, to be called Susie, as he insisted that is who he really was. The kids didn't blink an eye, and Susie he was, for the rest of his school career. I am waiting for the day he becomes Susie for good, bless his heart....
its FABULOUS Lizlin...
Hi Annie, Trif. We are leaving for CA on Wed for a week. No snow
oh well done bichon! What part?
I really miss flowers here. We get great blossom in spring but it's a really difficult climate for flowers to survive.
bichon, lucky you. San Francisco?
Sounds good, bichon.
is it too hot lizlin?
Not too hot or too cold
It can be hot - but more because it's really dry in the winter and at times, really wet in the summer! There's another cyclone brewing off the Queensland coast right now - don't think it'll affect us!
that would be tricky gardening conditions indeed. I am interested to see what survived this long freeze
I remember the first crocuses and tulips appearing through the snow at times, in London.
the trampoline died, and I have quite a lot of car damage to get repaired. But so does half the state. I swear, more than 50% of the cars on the roads here have a crushed bumper, or dimpled rear panel from hitting snowbanks
and yes, I know, I have to go the PB for about 8 of the words I just typed
A lot of people had to evacuate their homes after collapsing roofs
That's always the case with large grids!
Seems like you've all had a really tough winter :(
yes, bichon....my favorite local nursery lost an entire greenhouse....I was so upset.
Scrabs had a big problem. When the snow and ice fell from her roof, the debris rebounded and hit her house causing damage
I remember her saying that. Several people I know had terrible damage from water getting in their walls, and either rotting the walls, or the water then froze and expanded, cracking and bursting everything.
Hey, Trif. Could you recommend a local contractor?
Mass. and CT were hit hard. We had a bad winter but not closed to you two in damage.
*clodr
*dammm.----close
absolutely Grant! PMH construction. Matt Henry, owner. his number is (617) 347-2069
Can you recommend a plumber for me? One that actually a) returns calls, b) shows up when scheduled and c) can do plumbing related to heat ducts?
That is a tall order Trif
I guess so.
scrabs' description of what happened to her house was amazing -- ice bouncing as it hit the ground and breaking windows -- at least her sweet bunnies were ok
Sounds like basic courtesy to me!
grant, tell matt I gave you his number. ElizaBeth
Need to look up plumber
I have called so many. They don't want work, I guess. boggles my mind
Well perhaps there's an overload of work because of the weather - doesn't help you though.
More later
I have a radiator that burst. A plumber came to look at it, told me it needed to be replaced, and I haven't heard from him since. Meanwhile four gallons of hot water a day are coming out of it.
I rigged up this catch system to deal with the water, but it's a huge PITA
omg trif!!
Yikes!
Im trying to save the hardwood floor in the room, but I fear it's too late
Im a fairly good DIYer, but it's a really old, all one piece cast iron hot water job, and I have NO CHANCE at tackling it myself
Wow Trif. Sounds like you need a different and better plumber. But during this time, it's hard to find one.
crap crap crap -- soooo sorry!
yup. called all the ones I could find in the area. They either don't do heaters, or they are all too busy.
Really hope you find a good plumber soon.
thanks. bell is going to ring. see you third period :)
Who knew that plumbers were going to earn more than doctors. Reason to go to a technical high school
oh hey! We have one of those around here....maybe they could send a team over? Field trip!!!!
I just read over the ch** and regarding the name Elizabeth, when my immigrant mother entered elementary school in Pittsburgh, her elder brother took her and said her name was Libbie (actually it was \Luba). The teacher said "That's not a real name" and henceforth she was Elizabeth on all her work records, etc.
Hi Ruby - how's Burt doing and more importantly, how are you holding up?
He's doing surprisingly well, as long as I control his pain meds. I am tired beyond tired, but managing with elp from my friends and neighbors and housekeeper
That's good - on all counts. Happy that you've got help - I hope you don't overdo it. Try to get some rest whenever you can (I'm sure you are doing that!)
This grid is definitely a lister...but not til later
Hi phaeton. I started but must get going soon.
the first 130 are pretty normal...now to find the unnormal ones. ;-)
have nbt

phantom: cheetah
Big time, Shirlockc
I tried that - even though I knew it wasn't there.

you're certainly welcome, donnie
i lodges paperwork last month when requested to do so, and the morons have lost it.
In the States we have a saying when dealing with the government--save everything. copy everything. don't look for logic!
and now i just found out i could have done it on-line. gee, thanks i said. niceto have this knowledge.
so i have doubled up, and now have a printed receipt for giving them the info. * shaking head * i hear you harp, i copy every scrap when dealing with anyone nowadays.
I have a personal motto also, after a ridiculous conversation I had last week with an agency--- "when you are riding a dead horse, dismount."
* giggle *

It's just a fantasy. But I'd love to go there!
You could meet me, granny. It's about halfway!
col, sure, why not?
Just discovered there is a McDonald's there. Now i can sleep soundly.
that's all meals taken care of then. how about the accommodation?
My kind of place. Everything is closed on Sunday. Also everyone stops for quiet prayer at 6:00 p.m. No large carnivores or poisonous snakes.
sounds good. now tell me about the mosquitos, the ones that make jumbo jets look like gliders.
and three foot fruit bats!
and does that mean we have to fast on sundays? if everything is closed?
*giggle* silly, aren't we?
I actually could not find the answer to that question, granny. i assume the resorts are open. And probably McDonalds
still i like the thought of everyone stopping for quiet prayer.
The tourism information specifies that there are no nude beaches, and tourists should plan on wearing a t shirt over their bikinis.
nice...is it a predominantly catholic area?
Christian, but not strictly Catholic.
I think the largest single denomination is LDS (Mormon).
Some say it is more Polynesian than Samoa.
