hi everyone, just home from bridge
Hello flosey
FWs
yay diz!
good night with it, flosey?
yes seain, I played with an exceptionally good player and we won
Hi all and well done on the bridge, Flosey - must've been a good night :)
it was fun - no one can lose with this player, he is one of the best
nice :)
going to get into jammies, brb

does anyone have a clue for ce7 please?
ce 7 - strong disapproval of an action
Ends with a certainty, Flosey
thanks Liz, got it
yw - can you help with ap 6 pls?
a +- sounds like small bits
but misspelled
Thanks - good clue :)
yw
and tks
do you have ep7?
No, sorry :(
anyone else in ? or are we alone here
It is quiet - I'm not sure how long I'll be here - we've got guests staying with us - the niece of a good friend from the UK. They went out today - not sure when they'll be back.
lovely, had you known them before?
I met her when she was much younger. I've never met her boyfriend before. They're lovely people and very easy guests.
My friend put us in contact.
great, I'm going to be reacquainted with my niece's daughter when we can find a time that is good for her to get up here, she's living in Oregon
That'll be lovely for you.
last time I saw her she was a child - now just completed Masters degree
Wow! Clever lady :) It'll definitely be good to get to know her.
our daughters are also looking forward to meeting her - probably for first time, I think
Our guests have been travelling through Asia and are now camper-vanning down the east coast of Aus. Then they plan to work here until next August - it's fantastic to have such an opportunity.
wow, I'll say, that's such a great experience
I'm sure they'll all get on really well - I hope that you can find a time before too long for her to visit you - I really love your part of the world.
I've ground to a halt with this grid :(
she's living in Oregon now, was raised in Nebraska
I don't know either area.
Nebraska is much further south, Oregon is beside Washington state, just below Canada
Raised in corn country, lives now in granola country. is another way to look at it. :)
lol, ye
*yes
I've very briefly visited Seattle but other than that only California on the west coast.
I love that description, dc.
In America, I mean. Obviously I know more of Vancouver and area.
Rose is often in at this hour, hope she's ok
And on that note, i should sleep, it being a bit after 03 here. Happy babbling, yall! :)
my daughters are both in Vancouver
Sleep well, dc.
sweet sleep, dc
Perhaps she's having some treatment today? I've been a bit out of contact recently.
My dad worked in Vancouver for 2 years back in the 1970s - I visited my parents then and of course we were also there as part of a tour a couple of years ago.
I have difficulty remembering it all - memory is failing, sadly
I guess that happens - but I also always forget things and always have :)
we were living in Ontario at that time, came west after retirement to live on the farm where hubby was raised
Apart from leaving family behind, did you have regrets about such a big move?
have been here now for 20 years
And friends of course.
It's amazing to think that we've been here almost 7 years.
I always knew that was his plan - yes, sons were settled by that time so they're still in Ontario, girls came out shortly after we moved
so we always have a place to stay when we go back
My decision was pretty impulsive. Hubby is from Aus and I didn't realise how homesick he was - he suggested early retirement and I jumped at the chance.
As we do in London.
we had a 'cousins' reunion in 2014 and same cousin has said he'll host another in 2016 - we'll see, it was wonderful
That sounds wonderful - both my cousins are in Canada - one in Alberta and one in Ontario.
mine are mostly still in Ontario, except for one in Oregon
no, Washington
Much closer to you than mine are to me - but then nowhere's close to Australia and even distances here are pretty huge.
my Mom was first of 8 to marry, so we're the oldest of the cousins - some quite a bit younger
Large family - my family is small on both my mum and dad's side.
I have the ep 7 if you still need a clue, though I'll have to think about how to clue it.
yes please
e + most of the fishy star sign from March - not a very accurate clue but perhaps you'll be able to work it from that. It ends in 2 vowels.
I've only just noticed the n in the bottom r-h corner :(
I have that N complete if you need any clues
I'm OK on it thanks - funny thing is I'd been trying to get the ni 6/7 from the other n! I should've just typed it in.
Are you having any luck with that ep7 or should I try again?
still working on it
You know the star sign?
ep + vowel + the first 4 letters of the nerve pain which shoots from your backside down your leg.
got the star sign, not familiar with that nerve pain
OK so e + 1st 4 of the star sign + personal pronoun + first vowel.
Fireworks
wtg Liz
Thanks - wish I could find a better way to clue that ep 7 for you.
Probably later on someone will come up with a really clear clue.
just too tired I guess!
ep 7 - start with the first 3 of the previous word + the next 2 letters of the same word but reversed them + 2 vowels
ah, got it, thanks
WTG, Flosey!
will look that word up later
any of several tropical American plants of the genus Episcia, often cultivated as houseplants for their textured, variegated foliage and showy flowers.
of course! now I remember that nerve you mentioned
But forgive me, but I didn't think that definition would help!
should have, had I remembered it!!
lol! My typing is awful this afternoon!
Can I help with anything else?
thanks but think I'll be heading off to bed very soon
maybe eu7?
Yikes - I've just read that definition properly - I should definitely be in the PB for that one :(
Had a feeling you might say that! Another awkward one. Thinking about it.
It ends in most of frozen water!
And it's a bit like the ap sleep disorder.
great clue thanks, got it
yw - another hard one for me to clue.
Anything else, or I'll be off?
have never seen that word either
no thanks, I'll just poke around for a bit more, should be off to bed
It has no dictionary definition from the question mark. I might google it.
Interesting - definitely linked to that sleep disorder - to do with breathing.
On that note, sleep well Flosey.
thanks Liz - enjoy the rest of your day
Thanks.
got ep7 thanks... i think it can be clued like this ep + ** (not was) + *** (not fbi)
I'm off to bed, good night all
good morning all
Morning Sprite! Did your clocks change at the weekend like ours?
hi matty :) *hug* Yes, we are back on 'normal' time again too.
Though 'normal' time lasts less long than summer time! Americans are still on summer time for another couple of weeks, I believe
I wish they forgot about it. I very much dislike the transition to summer time. But getting an 'extra' hour now feels ok :)
I don't mind it so much, though I hate the dark nights which, this far north (even London), it wouldn't matter one way or another in December
The days are just so short!
yeah but that is the normal seasonal thing... days in December ARE short. Time for us human beings to cocoon at home, burn candles, read books and find peace deep inside
....or just drink a lot. One of the two ;)
lolollll
how are you doing, matty?
I have 77 words. Other than that, we got back from Jeff's folks in the midlands last night - they are ageing and Jeff finds that stressful. On the upside, after today Jeff ahs a few days off so we don't yet know what we'll do with it but at least it's not working :)
How about you?
75 words left, I should have said ;)
sounds good, matty. Jeff is lucky that he has you to be there for him through this. It can be tough to see your parents ageing. I am fine. Feeling good, puttering about, getting stuff done without overtaxing myself.
Good news! At the moment I am definitely not overtaxing at all - I'm still in bed - I shall shower once I've finished my coffee (and my bladder forces me to the bathroom anyway)
good planning there! :) I have a load of laundry going, and shopping to do after babble. Cooking dinner tonight, singing lesson in the evening. Other than that, I am not doing much today.
I must also put laundry in today. I too am cooking dinner, then we're off to the pub as Jeff plays a music session there every Tuesday. It's always good fun
oh wow, sounds awesome. If my girl and I come to london, can we come and listen?
Yes!!!! Absolutely. Especially as sometimes the musicians outnumber the audience
great!
Here's a sample (in a different pub, but you get the idea) https://youtu.be/ITVIA5mOGqE
oh nice! Maybe they can sing a song with Caya together... she sings and composes, did you know?
Everyone is welcome and that would be great (and I didn't know). How old is Caya?
caya will be 18 in february. Let me find you a link to her songs, hold on
Here's another... https://youtu.be/FhIqVg4o5Ks
Oh, fab
here are all her songs, her covers and her originals: https://soundcloud.com/isis\n-caya
darn, never mind, I will tinyURL it
OK
babble puts in that darn sometimes. http://tinyurl.com/ozgjn6v
that darn backslash n
Wow - it's beautiful - she has a fabulous voice and the song (that I'm listening to at the moment) is lovely
I know I am far from objective but I truly believe she is incredibly talented. Completely autodidact too. I think it would be way cool if your Jeff and my Caya could do a song together!
That would be great! Jeff writes songs as well, though the only one I have on YouTube is a comedy song written for my birthday a few years ago
BTW, Jeff's the one with the beard in the videos ;)
I thought he was... he is cute :D
I think so! My profile photo is from last Halloween. He's not normally quite so pale :)
*giggles*
Phantom: escape
yeah that one too, lol. Lots of phantoms today. And this might have been a huge grid if that upper right L had been a G, I think.
Yes! I have 67 left and think I might go to the list after I shower. Which I shall do shortly
I wonder how many desperately obvious words I'll spot once I open the list. I hate it when that happens
I don't yet have the 8, yet I have 7 of the 7s. Go figure
ah not that much bigger, actually. A little over 200. Okay then. Let me know if you want a clue for the 8
Can you tell me what the stats are for the 8?
How did you work out how many words you'd get in the grid with the G?!
it won't make you happy, lol... stats are re8/50
Nooooooooooooooooooooo
back in da days, I had this little script that worked out amount of words and first-letter stats, plus breakdown into word length. That was before the lists and babble stats.
Got it - turns out I had its related seven already and forgot to pluralise it
Oh, very clever Sprite :)
lol happens to me all the time
Still haven't opened the list, so that's good ;) Though I will soon. After my shower. Which I'll have in 5 or 10 minutes ;)
I used to post them in babble chat, if nobody had beaten me to it
ah, procrastinating like a pro!
I thought I'd been here a while - I've just looked, you were here near enough from the get go - 2004!
fireflies
Clever clogs!!
yeah I was here pretty early in the game, pun intended, lol.
*giggles*
I started in 2006 but had a long break
I started in 2004 and never quit. I am thoroughly addicted.
What would we do if babble was no more :-(
I stopped partly because of work and partly because it was becoming a chore - I felt that the world would end (or something) if I didn't finish. Now I'm more relaxed about it so have more fun
Morning Zooz!
hiya zooz! *hugs* dear man.
we'd find a way to resurrect it, zooz!
Hello, Matty & Sprite :-)
I like to finish, but if I don't, I don't.
Not at that stage yet, Matty. I still want to finish every grid lol
Don't get me wrong, I like to finish and try to but I don't get quite so hung up about it.
...as I used to
ok, I have to get moving. Matty, we will keep in touch and find a way to meet up in London when my girl and I go on our York trip.
*hugs* to you both. Have a lovely day.
Yes please!!! And I must shower and use the loo (in reverse order) so I'll be back later)
Have fun all
I did take a while out of babble though through personal reasons but apart from that I can't get enough of it ;-)
Take care, Sprite. Have a lovely day!
BYe, Matty enjoy your shower. I just had mine!
{{zzoozz}}
{{zzoozz}}
are sprite and matty gone?
(((Ruby))) How are you.
Yes they just left, Ruby.
I've been up since 5, too much on my mind
I hate it when I can not sleep. Are you gaining any weight yet?
eu7, please?
no, I lost another kg. Down to 38 which is scary. Haven't weighed that since I was a kid
Sorry, Matty only just started myself so have no idea yet.
You should have a chat with your doctor, Ruby. Maybe he can suggest a way around the weight issue. It could all be with the stress and worry so might be able to help you that way.
The supplements are disgusting. You can taste the vitamins
going to rest now finish later, thanks
My father has on prescription these drinks called Ensure. he could survive on just these drinks as they have everything you need. But with meals it helps to try and put weight on.
I still have 100 left but am going to try and catch a few zz's
Yes I know what you mean, Ruby. But you need to stay healthy.
Bye, Marc.
((zz's in your honor, zooz!lol)
Try and take care, ((RUby))
bye marc
bye zzoozz. see you later
Will do, Ruby!

Okay, back to work. Bye for now Babblers and Monkeys alike.
MLF what is your budget for a watch? Do you just want to tell the time with reasonable accuracy, or do you want a pin-point accurate, durable time piece with a quality name and build to back it up?
If you want something solid, but not too crazy, Seiko are making some real quality pieces in the $200. 00 range. No big flash on the outside, but some quality innards. :)
lol, I should learn to take note of the chog time stamp. :)

Hello
Hello, Pen :-)
hi all. half way almost. not as easy as i thought it was at first.
Hello
Hello, Mkg :-)
Hi zooz. You're on late :)
Clue please for SA 5/12?
Hi, Chrissie. Yeah was a bit busy earlier so back to finish up. Hope you are well?
I'm good thanks. Hope you are too.
All well this end thanks :-)

Hi, Chrissie

Just made it to 100. Off to bed soon
Hi jaxx :)
Hope all is well with you
great clue dorens. ty.
night chrissiedee
yw. i think jax's might have been better
All good. How are you? Any progress towards your op?
Lol Dorens
I got as far as the anaesthetic room when suddenly the room filled up with people and machines. Op cancelled as my heart was fibrillating and my heart rate was 3 x normal.
what is an op.?
Oh dear :(
Oh no!!
op = Operation.
What caused that?
oh my, how awful jaxx. so you got nervous? perhaps they should have given you something before you even went to surgery. to calm you.......
ty zoo
Oh, yes. It took them four hours to find me a bed in the cardiac ward but some kind soul did remember that I hadn't eaten since 7pm the night before and it was now 3.30pm the next day.
Has your heart settled down now?
Ironically my home phone had gone awry on the day before the op so my husband still thought I was coming home the next day and wouldn't have a clue where I'd gone.
wow what a mess. i hope your heart is fine now jaxx
jaxx, what was the op? heart or other?
For the first two days it varied between 170 beats and 68. I had so many tests that I felt like a guinea pig. One day they gave me 17 tablets and an injection.
wow.
where do you live jaxx? us or not?
Frightening
No, the op was a thyroidectomy that I had already waited over a year for and, it seems, will be waiting until next year for another try.
wow. where was this? i doubt the u.s. since you would not have to wait another year........canada?
UK
I am on Warfarin so have to plod for blood checks every week, a new drug that they hope will remove the need for stop/starting my heart, 20mg of BP tablets and all the stuff I had before. I rattle
uk? wow. i thought medicine was better there. i am so sorry.
wow jaxx. so why do you need the thyroid out?
Don't apologise. I am lucky to still be here to write this and the care was wonderful. Although saying that they hung a monitor around my neck and it was faulty. They woke me up three times the first night to tell me I had 'flatlined' and they thought I had died. never a dull moment, eh?
lolol - I see you've not lost a sense of humour about it :)
I have a lumpy thyroid with cysts in nodules and this hides two parathyroid glands that they thought would have to come out as well
Got to laugh or you'd cry, right?
I never have done things the easy way. My mother used to say there was a bad fairy at my christning
I did meet a delightful lady of 75 who had had a heart attack but couldn't have a bypass op because the surgeon was away. her name was Dottie and so she was. She kept all our spitits up.
How long were you in for?
spirits up. The saddest thing for me was being told I can no longer eat cranberries when Wesleydale cheese with cranberries is my absolute favourite cheese
That has to do with the warfrin tablets. Happened to me too when I was on them. once off of them you can have them again.
I was in for three days altogether but had to come in every day for another week to have an injection.
I didn't know that zooz
Zooz, I was told I could be on them for life.
There was a lady here on the Isle of Wight who had a hip replacement operation and she is 112 years old...yes I did say 112 years old!
I saw that on the news - amazing!
A very optimistic surgeon and patient.
I do not think i would want to go through that at that age.
It must have improved her quality of life though.
Not sure, Chrissie. When they interviewed her she was curled up on a bed. So no idea if she could walk or not.
My husband was booked for a knee replacement but was sent for physiotherapy first and then joined the local gym. The transformation has been remarkable and he is so much more mobile.
Think the nhs should give us all free gym membership. I'm sure it would be cost effective.
I would take it if it was offered, Chrissie :-)
I would probably still be a couch potato :)
He got 12 weeks of physio followed by six free weeks at the gym and I gave him a year's gym membership for his birthday.
Nice, Jaxx!
Good gift idea
Ask, Zoom, you might find that your doc offers it or your local hospital
Could do first half of the week at the gym second half of the week a couch potato!
lol
Oh and no more bacon as it may give you cancer so they say. Remember the butter thing...good for you..bad for you..good for you!
Indeed. By the way the winter is going to be cold apparently. Could you get off that couch of yours long enought to organise the lined curtains?
Ahem..errm i am still working on it, Jaxx :-)
If you followed all the dietary and health advice you wouldn't eat or breathe and where would that get you?
In a box probably lol
Bacon butties with best butter , yummy
Ooh yeah now you are talking!
Well, work a little bit harder, my friend. It has been a year since we first discussed the curtains.
Chrissie, I do so agree. A little of what you fancy does you good, as the song says
I know I know. i will try this Winter :-)
I shall be watching.
Yes, I've just finished a wee scotch and lemonade
Time for me to floss & brush my teeth. Any clues needed before I retire for the evening?
Running away, zoom?
Racing zooz to the bathroom.....
No no just my eyes are starting to droop lol
Sleep well, zooz
Rushes in and locks the door.. hahaha!
Night to you, Chrissie, too.
Also retiring for the night. Sweet dreams friends xx
