good mornng all
cooee hello, hello, cartwheels, hip hip hooray!!!! {{hugs}} and good morning my dearest sprite
hello my dear friend *hugs* How was your day, and how are you?
all good as can be, dear heart. church then home for lunch and then quietly sitting down on the laptop. and you, sweetie?
still rotten. Sore throat, coughing, cold/hot, shivery and generally yuck. But good news: dinner stayed inside of me yesterday.
so... phooey is accepted spelling, pfui too, but pfew isn't? Enable, enable, enable... tsk.
well that's a start. you poor darling. are you able to take some soluble paracetamol?
I don't even think we have that. Just the normal type. I will give it a try after breakfast.
the other way is to crush the tablets up very finely and mix with a little jam or honey.
ok thanks, will give that a try :)
or there is a liquid paracetamol available too. maybe himself could at least pick you up a bottle of that.
maybe tomorrow. Today all but the grocery stores are closed. GOod idea to get me a bottle.
of course. i forgot.... duh!!
*giggles* All good. I have an appt with my gp tomorrow, for bloodwork and some other stuff. will ask her about my virus too, though usually there is nothing to be done but sit out the ride.
sprite we had the grandmother of storms this morning. one lightning bolt actually earthed in our backyard outside our bedroom window, and the resulting thunder clap was inredible. don and i did not i could scoot across the bed so quickly.
*groan* did not know*
oh that is scary, isn't it! So loud.
Hi and hugs :)
i thought of you, would have loved a heads up that was on the way. i could have climbed into the wardrobe for the night...loll
hiya Liz! *hugs* for you and for your beloved
Sorry you're not well Sprite - extra well wishing hugs for you.
{{hugs}} and hi lizgirl
thanks Liz :)
You could send your storms here, Rose - but I guess we're getting into storm season here anyway.
they are on their way up the coast liz. BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES!!!
Perhaps they'll make it here - probably not, looking at the forecast.
Our guests left yesterday - they were lovely people.
the good news is all the drainage which don has put in coped with the rains. no duck pond outside the kitchen window.
how nice you had a good time, Liz
good job, Don!
But they had rubbish weather - pretty dull and low surf - not good for surfing junkies! We laughed a lot over long drawn out dinners - most days they did their own thing.
yeah, and the yabby holes didn't turn into miniature fountains either...loll
a lot of shared laughter is worth more than good surfing
what sprite said
That's all good Rose - Don did well. We had our gutters cleaned this week for storm season.
Hmmm! Yes, i think so - they enjoyed themselves but I think that he, in particular was looking forward to surfing here. In the UK he'd even played a virtual game set on one of our surf beaches.
Or perhaps he'd just virtually surfed the beach :)
hello dear friends - can't sleep, so I thought I would babble for a spell.
yeah well, if he is that fanatical, he certainly knows you cannot predict the surf. I am sure he enjoyed his stay with you.
btw, the next step in the reno's is to put the new beam into the ceiling, to hold the roof up before we take out 1 1/2 walls to open up the kitchen. don has done some measuring and he is delighted with the *hoped-for* result.
Hi trif
Hey Triffles... *huggles* Lovely to see you, but am sorry you cannot sleep.
its okay - I will later
Wow! Putting up a new beam - big job I'd've thought.
so lovely to see so many friends!!!
good news, rose :)
bummer trif. sorry you are sleepless. do you live in seattle?
It's lovely to see you too - though like Sprite said, sorry you're not sleeping.
LOL Rose
lol rose
no, no, trif, i totally empathise with you. at least you can get up and go on-line. me??? i just lie there and watch the ceiling in the dark.
You need an iPad, Rose
sounds like you need a tv on the ceiling :)
An iPad has night-time lighting - doesn't hurt your eyes in the dark.
i need something. not sure it is an i pad. i do have a tablet.
biting my tongue about laying there watching the ceiling.....
roflollll trif
where do you think Rose came up with the idea of putting in a new beam?
i could lie there and think of england, but it's not much chop if himself is asleep.
Wake him up then - easy solution.
8laughing so hard*
American is now left pondering the meaning of "not much chop...."
but "putting in a new beam" has taken on a new meaning....lolololol
lolol
chop....aussie slang not much good, poor
ah, thanks rose
UK version would just be "not much cop"
so Don can chop in his sleep? Ohhhhkayyyy...
I should late night babbler more often! you ladies are a RIOT!
clever :)
do aussies do that cockney rhyming thing too?
so long as it's not chop suey. * moves into spare bedroom*
You'll have to answer that, Rose.
sometimes trif. like ... a bag of fruit/suit. a noah's ark/shark
Oooh! Haven't heard those.
I used to use "up the apples" and "barney rubble" a bit....had forgotten
Those I know.
*grin* nice trif
could you gals explain all those nice plays on words to this bewildered dutchie?
Rose - tomorrow the US finishes daylight saving (I think), will you let lickety know?
up the apples = up the ante?
oh, and a pony and cart/fart. that one had my bro's when they were very much younger in stitches for weeks.
Apples and pears - stairs
it already happened, lizlin - about an hour ago
no, sprite, up the apples and pears/stair
Right - but I was thinking of grid time tomorrow.
For me it'll change from 3pm to 4 pm.
have already done so liz.i was just a few hours too early.
Should've said flip time.
*feeling extremely stupid*
ah. see, this is where the international date line gets me -
You're not stupid, sprite.
I was quite perplexed a few months ago. They started a Saturday food market in a local park down here - called Hank Marvin Food Market - just as the real Hank Marvin was touring. I couldn' t work out why they would name it after him though.
sprite, don't you dare!!! you are extremely smart!
for goodness sake!! stupid is never a word i would associate with you.
Hank Marvin = Starvin'. Hello all
Love it :) Hi Lyn
I had never even heard of the cockney rhyming thing until I met my ex-husband and he told me about it
g'day lyn
well, you explained the rhyming thing to me and I still don't get it. Equals stupid.
I suppose it might be used a lot in parts of London - but not where I lived. Just the occasional use.
Never stupid.
hiya lyn :) xxx
NBT ----> thus feeling quite clever, hahaha
wtg Trif!
You might say "Going to have my barnet cut" meaning a hair cut - Barnet Fair -hair.
ah right. Funny phenomenon, that. I like it :D
WTG trif - stuck here with 15 left.
Can you adam and eve it? Adam and Eve - believe
*grins* that is funny
Sometimes hear them on UK crime dramas.
china plate = mate
Im calling shenanigans on enable - once again.
Yes - my old china :)
lol
I do think it is funny that the cockney rhyme thing keeps the word that DOESN"T rhyme....
More likely - me ol' china
More subtle that way
it is kind of like an inside joke, isn't it?
keeps yanks in the damn dark, that is for sure
not just yanks, lol
I guess so. Never really thought about it - just took it for granted. So yes, as an insider, you're probably right.
well y'all have those accents which totally go right over my head. so much so i have athlete's scalp...lolll
my junior year of high school, we had an exchange student from Australia, and when he really got going in aussie slang, it was absolutely a whole different language! "no flaming drango's gonna say it's worth a rat's razoo" and such
lolol!!!
I think Aussies have more words for vomit than any other language.
oh wow Trif... sounds hilarious! I used to watch Flying Doctors, back in da days... just for the lovely lovely accents.
THERE's a point of national pride for you!!! lololol instead of "smilla's sense of snow" we have "aussie's sense of vomit"
Liz, I heard the Scots have more words for rain than any other language... because they have so much more rain than others. You think the vomit thing... well...
I'd forgotten that - it's a while since I read that book.
Yes!
I think we americans have a lot of words for money. and boobs.
Certainly judging by our neighbours.
in dutch, lots of words for money too. And for boobs.
In every country I would think.
I did meet a non-native English speaker from asia, who noted that we have tons of words for mom and dad here....
collectively and singly - parents, folks, in laws, etc
interesting.
sorry if I am going on and on...I am such a huge word nerd, and find them endlessly interesting
Was involved in a discussion once with Molly about the difference between US and UK - mom and mum - she didn't like the words mum rhymed with.
Have you read Ella Minnow Pea? If you love words, I'd recommend it.
writing it down, liz
no, thank you for the rec! have noted it
I greatly enjoyed Bill Bryson's book, on how English got the way it did
Author is Mark Dunn
btw, my son thought it was "elementary pee"
Rolin recommended it to me.
LOL!
someone here recommended 'The glamour of grammar'. Lovely book on english and its peculiarities.
I also can recommend "eats shoots and leaves"
it is by Roy Peter Clark
I know that one.
I love what I've read by Bill Bryson - admittedly not much.
I agree lizlin - I really have come to adore his work
Did you see A Walk in the Park
not yet - it was out here for about a second.
Woods I mean! Lovely movie.
casting was genius
A walk in the Park was a great kid's picture book.
Yes, great casting. They were so good together.
Ooops - wrong apostrophe! Lots of kids - kids'
Im going to try to sleep some. thank you all SO MUCH for the company!!!! how I love the chog
Hope you sleep now, trif - catch you soon.
*hugs Trif* Sleep well, dear one.
Have a good day Sprite - hope you feel much better very soon. Hugs.
BYE ROSE and hugs - shouting so you can hear if you're not by your computer :)
ummm I wasn't leaving yet... are you, Liz?
Yes - almost time for dinner here.
ok :) Thanks for the good wishes. Enjoy your dinner and have a lovely eveNING, Liz *hugs*
*giggle* waves frantically, b yeeee liz. xoxox
ok I retract that statement.. I am leaving too, grin. Fireflies. And time to lie down again. *hugs* for you, Rose. Sleep well for later. lyn *hugs* xxx.
WTG SPRITE!!! xoxo honey. hope you feel better soon.

How are you feeling?
ding ding ding
I am feeling better. I am concerned about you. How are you?
Yesterday was a great day! Burt got a place at the best nursing home/assisted living facility, in Annecy.
It is called Residence Adelaide and has a webssite
They are transferring him on Wed. and are taking care of the move WITHOUT MY HELP
That is great news. It must be a great relief
It is very expensive, but, at this point, I don't care and if it's luxurious (as people say), he deserves it.
Also, it is in "downtown" Annecy, so I'll be able to go there more often and even eat with him in the restaurant.
Yes, he does and so do you knowing Burt is in a very good place and will be taken care of.
They have a small Alzheimer's section and even accommodate couples
Some of the assisted living places in the States are very good too. I am so glad you found this place.
The local gov't did it for me. Their care is amazing.
Then you are lucky to be where you are. Burt is getting the best care.
Now you concentrate on Ruby.
From what my friends here say, it is unusual for them to be so nice
You charmed them. I mean it.
I am really lucky to have wound up here
They are even trying to get me into the health care system as I have no insurance
clue for as5/10, please
Then, I agree, you are lucky.

It always amuses me how we manipulate the clock twice a year to suit our lifestyles. I have great respect for the areas who don't participate in that nonsense.

ty nan
yw
I see myself as British rather than english. But that is just my opinion.
I think that makes you Bringlish, Zooz.
that's ok -- the scots don't like to be called british either
Oh, I want to hear from one who lives there, what is the difference between British and English?
I never said Canadians were americans?
Sadly, the Scots don't "not like it" enough to have forged their independence.
just drawing the parallel, ru
not really a great parallel though nan
Well, Canadians and Americans are all technically North Americans. And we're all Yankees.
unless you guys want to pay for our health care too :D
OK, England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales are four distinct countries. Great Britain is a catch all term for them all, and the UK is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Well, Molly. for me British means the United Kingdom of which includes Scotland, Wales and Northern Island being english just means I speak that language.
Ireland*
But Zoom, I speak English and I'm American. : D
In the Rugby World Cup, for example, had, as competitors, England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales as distinct, separate countries
We speak American.
don't think it was because they wouldn't like to be independent, but that they can't afford it --- what they really want is what Canada has - a completely autonomus government while retaining a tie to the commonwealth
ah.. thanks matty
(bets nan hasn't seen the price of scotch lately)..
Commonwealth, I love that word. As if wealth is common.
England is a country. It lies (mostly - excluding Cornwall, for example) to the East of Wales and to the south of Scotland
very familiar with the price of a good scotch! I think of yankee as a term for the north in the civil war between the states -- nothing to do with Canada
Now the Commonwealth is a different kettle of fish entirely. The way I think of it is that England, Scotland, (northern Ireland) and Wales are countries all of which are part of a nation
the whole great Britain thing is confusing to me too
Just to be clear, there is (mostly) a correspondence between geographical name and preferred ethnic name? UK = British (if you don't know otherwise) and England = English (not Scotland/Wales/etc)
Britain is the island, there are countries within that island.
(Zooz, have I got that right?)
I think it all depends on your point of view, ruru. Whether you became a part of Great Britain by choice or by being defeated in war.
Then, of course, you get the outliers that are not part, technically, of either GB or UK but are still...kind of. Like the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands (which are each different from each other)
Glad I can clear things up ;)
maybe when I go to Scotland it will all clear up for me :D
Just remember, Ru, that it's pronounced Edin-boro (not burg) and it's absolutely, definitely, not in England
got it
it is not edinboro but edinburr with a rolled r at the end!!!!!
*Imagines Ru creating international incident while in Scotland* Shall we alert Interpol now?
well.. it's not like I kilt someone judi
Well, it depends. If you're Scottish, yes. But woe betide anyone who tries to put on a cod Scottish accent. Then you're better of with the boro ;)
Kind of pronounced with one syllable.
Agreed lol
Oh, ruru. you nearly got a groan out of me for that one lol
:D (not for lack of trying)
boro? ---- never---makes me so angry when I hear it. you are closer to the mark with edinburrah
or just edinburr
Nan, it still beats 'burg'
No I think Burrah is closer to the mark.
not sure about that -- both are dreadfl
*dreadful
Ru, Judi, we are in the minority here so I suspect we should just hush.
how would you feel if the newscasters all kept saying Lundoon instead of London?
Geesh. The floor is becoming littered with dropped vowels in here. Somebody get a brrrrm.
(lips zipped here)
LOL Judi! Best joke of the evening. And I say that sitting next to Jeff (my other half who loves a pun)
No no, molly. all is fine here. In fact it is nice to chat about things without people getting heated!
:-))
guess there is no doubt where I stand so will take my scottish butt off to photo editing --- see you at the flip and hagd everyone
Jeudi, whaet do you mean about extrea voweals?
wouldn't that be btt?
Have a great day, Nan :-)
Just chequeing. I didn't mean to colour the chat with bad humour.
Okay back to the grid for me. now where was I... Oh yes the first M
Molly - going out of her way to have a vowel movement.
I'm not adjusted to daylight savings time.. going to screw me up today
don't drink to much of it, zoom!
LOL judi
(judi is sharp as can be today ...look out everyone)
Actually, I'm quite tired. Got up early to go grocery shopping. Forgot all about setting the clocks back. So, I'm a little punchy.
Haha i won't, Nan :-)
It's just about nap time for me.
Ours went back the other day. Wish they would leave the time alone.
Why don't they just settle on a half hour and leave it there
And, if you live in Arizona, you don't change your clocks at all. Must be a twilight zone thing.
Dislike the falling back. Dark in the a.m. when getting up for work. Already dark in the p.m. when heading home. Contributes to seasonal affective disorder for sure.
Why don't we just quit messing with the clock twice a year? The purpose for it has long since passed.
I think it has to do with the rising of the Phoenix
Or the taming of the shrew.
Going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark makes me feel like a mole.
I agree molly.. it is just weird and outdated
we aren't really saving anything :D
definitely outdated.
I can see the point of it in the spring - saves energy. But, in the fall/winter, it seems like it would cause in increase in energy consumption. More lights on, heat turning on earlier & staying on longer. Oy. Who's responsible for this nonsense?
There are people (not me) who literally never leave their office once they get there. Ergo, they do not see daylight 5 days a week.
Vampires!
Blame the farmers, Judi :-)
damn those hoes
lol
Actually, I don't think dairy farmers participate in daylight savings - as the cows need to be milked at the same time 365 days a year.
had a cow come to my door last night
I opened the door and it said "trick or tea"
teat
good mobibg all
Uhg.
judy isn't adjusted to daylight savings time either :D
What did you say, ruru. Pull the udder one!
Butter costume was amoozing.
well... I could milk this one for all its worth
LOL to both of you :-)
Keep churning them out please!
I'm in central time so still morning
5:10pm here and just getting dark :-(
wow zooz
that's not fair
Ha in about a months time it will be getting dark by about 3:45pm :-((
wow.. how would you know it's pasture bedtime then
Hahaha I love it!
It never gets dark before 4:30 PM here. If it got dark at 3:45 PM I would be clinically depressed.
it's always sunny here in Napa Valley
Think of those much further north they have darkness for months at a time!
On the shortest day of the year where you are, Ru what time does it start getting dark?
yes.. those scandanavians have to do things by feel :D
No sunshine at all, for months, would make me totally insane.
about 8 pm
Me too, molly!
fe 7 plz
Wow not bad at all.
By the way, the suicide rate and alcoholism rate in places like that is off the charts.
but then I have a glowing personality and it's hard to guess when the sun goes down
*gag*
fe 7 is like the scandanavian country ivesy
Oh good grief, Ru o/0
♥♥The sun always shines on Ru♥♥
(mmm my nose just grew an inch)
Haha!
sorry dont get the fe 7 clue ru..
Well, it's time to scrape the excess vowels off my shoes and draw the shades to filter the light from Ru's glowing personaltity so I can take that nap. 34 left in the bucket. I'll see you crazy kids tomorrow!
Fi + consonant + not sea but dry earth
Have a great day, Judi :-)

Hello Babble friends. A small piece of Soodle is in the USA right now.... My daughter is in transit between Tampa & Orlando, Fla & is keeping me updated. She is loving every mili-second of her trip.
cool, soodle...
She was at the Taylor Swift concert in Tampa last night & is now en route to do the Disney thing.
nice!
pen, got the ne 6/21. Do you want a clue
sure...
Yes please, Bich...
a sewing implement to darn socks, etc
oh i have that one... i clued it....

yw
what do you need pen?
paned
oops
i don't need anything, thanks...it was bichon looking for the ne 6/21....i thought she was looking for something other than the sewing tool...
free clue
So.... Take a bow, all you Americans. My daughter has traipsed around the world (well - Europe) after Taylor Swift all year. She says that the people she has met in Tampa are the best yet. They welcomed her & celebrated her enthusiasm ..... Enthusiastically! Of course, the fact that she was dressed as a leprechaun may have influenced that enthusiasm.....

must be a pain in the ass for her to drag along the rainbow and pot of gold though soodle?
not to mention getting thru security...
Don't know if my icon changed - if it did, Suzie is the one in the middle...
it did...nice pic...
I envy her the exuberance of youth!!!!
I think of other things than Disneyland with the exuberance of youth :D
well.. at least in my youth. :D
she has to be careful ruru becaue she is in a foreign country and kind of stands out as the only leprechaun
I admire her spirit and national pride
hadn't considered that
I have loved her ever since she marched down the streets in Ireland tossing potatoes to the "crowds" watching her St Patricks Day parade of one
That was the older daughter. This is the younger one.
Oh, then they are both terrific kids. I stand corrected again.
Not correcting. Just giving credit to both of the Soodle offsping.
ok. thanks for clearing that up
Or offspring.
Sorry! I was facebooking Soodle The Younger. She is absolutely loving the whole US experience.
And, Molly. You are 100% correct. Sarah was the potato-tossing daughter. Suzie is the Taylor Swift stalking daughter. (The weirdness of what I have just typed has not escaped me. Seriously).
I wonder if she had a good starch on her throws? ..er I mean arch
Suzie's on a bus between Tampa & Orlando. She says the clientele on the bus is like the cast of Orange Is The New Black''. Lol

oh dear... it would appear lickety hasn't read his emails. xoxox
Has this got something to do with Daylight Saving?
yes dofith
i did email him and warn him of the daylight saving finishing in the USofA
When did it start? (I'm in WA - we still don't have it.)
Oh, I see - US, not us.
I remember now, from previous years.
(Drumming fingers on table) - I'm ready to roll here!
daylight saving for us starts the first sunday in october, and it finishes in the us of a the first sunday in november
We'll get it here in the west one day, I'm sure.
no need dofith, you have so much sunlight anyway.
I guess I could do some h/w while I'm waiting. But then again, I only have 13 minutes to go...
Just spent a week in Karratha with Son#3 and family - already it is 39-40 degrees.
i mean your sunlight allows you to use both ends of your day, ours goes to dusk , it seems, much earlier. the daylight saving gives us some time of sunlit hours at the end of our days to be outside and enjoy it.
now that's waaaaay too hot for me.
never thought it would affect the time of starting Babble?
Every time they want to introduce it here, we have a trial run for a year or two. I always enjoy it, but then I don't have little kids to put to sleep etc
hi guys, Im in the West also and I hate daylight saving as it is too hot - I look forward to 5pm when it starts to cool
it does over here gemini because the flip time is 12 midnight in america, but depending on the DST it can be as early as 3pm here.
Hi Rose how are you lately?
hey ya sandy, cruising, honey. and you?
Yes, sandy - that's why it never succeeds here. We're all exhausted by 5.00 and can't wait for nightfall!
I am really good and at last I have a grandchild whom I am baby sitting at the moment
yay!! sandy!! when did that happen, dear?
Where are you, sandy?
Thats a fact Dofith - When we had the trial we didnt have one single barbie because it was just too hot
Congrats, sandy - grandies are the best!
I am in Margaret River- We moved here because Perth was too hot ( ha we are too precious i figure) you can read my profile- Where are you?
I'm with you - hate the heat with a passion. And the bugs, creepy crawlies etc that come with it. Love Margaret River. We're sometimes in Perth, sometimes in Falcon (just sth of Mandurah).
The baby is 15mths old now and she is so cute - My daughter got married a while ago in England we all went there for the grand affair- I am getting too old for the first one
My man is a Melbourne boy - came west to study, loved it and the heat because he hates Melb weather
It seems to be getting hotter every year - We live on a farm and swim in the dam which is so fresh and cool
lollll, age is only a state of mind sandy. and the baby will keep you youn g.

i'm not touching that one sandy...
I will try and chat more often I love hearing the news bbl
Sounds like "What's for dinner?" is taken care of, Sandy!! Yuk!!
I hope you're right, Jade!
