don has been very busy. the lower boards on the outside of our house rotted. he has removed them and is replacing them with merbau boards. it looks stunning along side the crean painted boards above them.

and our new front door is being installed on wednesday. and next week a new security door.

Hello from the eastern United States (New Jersey outside of NYC). 3:21 AM here. Spring is having trouble starting. Our neighborhood has had two large little of bear cubs. One with six; one with five. Used to be unusual but better vegetation seems to stimulate their ovaries.

They were relocated to a special den in a protected forest. Growing up in this part of NJ as a child there were never any bears. So goes the news of northern NJ.

Scrabbler, the squirrels were getting most of my birdseed too, so I switched to all safflower seed. They don't like it but the birds do.
Well, have to buy a new scratching post. The cats have finally unravelled the rope.
Ah, thanks for the suggestion, tabbycat, although I do enjoy seeing the grey and red squirrels, and especially the chipmunks.
Tabbycat, I don't really dislike the squirrels, it's just that they are acrobats and manage to get to my feeders in spite of squirrel baffles hanging over my feeders.
Oh, I feed then too with feeders on the trees.
Just when I think I have outsmarted the squirrels they show me that they can get to the feeders anyway.
I tried many things to defeat them, even bought expensive squirrel proof feeders. HA! They always find a way.
I don't have a squirrel problem with my feeders, the birds just don't come to my feeder.
Black oil sunflower seeds make everyone happy here, Bichon.
They do come a bit more to my thistle seed feeder
The goldfinches like that stuff but it is expensive.

Our bird feeders are hanging under a large awning outside our enclosed porch, so we watch the birds and hear their singing all day. When it rains they often shelter there, perched on the awning supports.

I had a bird feeder once. I tried beating the squirrels by greasing the pole. They just figured out a way to leap to the feeder from my wood pile. Now I just throw seed on the ground and the squirrels and the birds seem to share it just fine.
