Is the chat broken? Miss y'all.
Hello, Peach, I have just started. But I am here :-)
Hey there, zooz. How are you?
All reasonably well here thanks for asking, Peach, How about your good self?
Just trying to keep cool......it has been in the high 90's and a couple of 100's. I don't go out much. The dogs don't stay outside very long either. Glad you are
well. Is it terribly hot there?
Ha hot in the UK that is a very rare occurance. But it is warm though so I must not grumble about it. Would be nice to have a Summer though.
My friends say I am like a reptile as I am always cold lol
Well, I had better get ready to round up the critters and head to bed.....its 5:00AM here. I still have over 100 words to go....It really isn't a bad grid.....I am just slow. Do have a good day. Blessings.
I hope you manage to get a good nights rest, ((Peach)) and try and stay cool. Take care.
Phantom word : identity
If someone goes to bed at 5 AM, don't you wish them a "good days sleep"? : D Hi Zoom
Hello, Molly, yes I suppose one would! lol
I don't think I have gone to bed at 5 AM since my college days. : )
I did go to bed around 4:30ish AM a few weeks ago as I was playing a game of chess. I was like a zombie when I awoke around 11AM . Not often I stay up that late. Would not be keen on doing it again neither.
Chess seems like a very intense game. I can see how it would lure you to stay up later than usual.
I love the game of chess. No matter how hard I try I just am no good at it lol
I say that but I feel I can give people a reasonably good game but just do not seem to have the brain power to advance to a higher level to wht i am at now.
Well you have more brain power than I do. I won't even attempt chess. I have no mind for strategy.
Aww that is a shame, Molly. It really is a great game to get in4.
I'm sure once you master it, it's an intriguing game. I think I just balk at the mastery challenge.
Well I think you are underestimating yourself on the chess front. You seem to me to be a very intelligent lady with a mindset that could excel at chess. you should one day just give it a go for a while and see!
wow those Z words were easy to find! That makes a change.
Damn. And off to the PB for me :-(
Oh, we will give you special dispensation since th5 is such an easy word to blurt out : D
Now yesterday, had you said you were going to go sit in your inglenook, you would not have been let off so easy. : D
Good morning! I'm just in time for the red boxes
LOL
Hello ((Ruby)) yes in three minutes time.
I wonder if people sit in their inglenooks drinking Inglenook.
How cold is it there, zzoozz? It was around 50F tthis morning with a lot of wind.
Ruby I asked our mail carrier about your package. He said he tried to deliver it but there was no suite number on it so he didn't know where it went. He's going to try and find it for me.
There is a restaurant inthe UK called iglenook!, it is in Bognor Regis.
Oh, I'm sorry. I hope he can find it!
Stupid babble freeze.
I will re-type, Ruby. It is 19.7c around 65f here with light winds, Ruby.
No worries Ruby, I'm sure it will turn up.
I sent a package of misc. stuff to husband's daughter in Ca. ad because I didn't itemize the contents, they wouldn't accept it and held the package hostage until I paid ANOTHER 100+ euros to bring it back. And I still don't hav" it
And Ruby, I am sorry there has been more trouble in your country. It must be scary times there.
Yes, it is very scary abd Nice is closer to here than Paris
Yes I heard about that this morning. crazy crazy stupid people.
There is no way I would tyravel or be in a crowd, even in this backwater
I think it was during a fireworks displayfor bastille day.
And there ar e10's of thousands of people clustered along the Tour de France route, easy targets!
>The situation is terrifying
Oh yes I had forgotten about that. does not barethinking about!
Ooo, barethinking sounds naughty : P
did you see yesterdays stage, Ruby, where chris froome the yellow jersy holder crashed in4 tha back of a motorbike that was filming them and damaged his bike too much so started running up the mountain until another bike was ready for him!
Like bear naked
LOL, Molly
is it bare or bear?
*Wonders how many people are now looking for an e10 word : D
Yes, it was evidently a first, having a rider run up the mountain.
But I think they gave him a special dispensation
They did as it was no fault of the riders as they changed the end point of the stage to end earlier.
Bear is the animal or to hold or carry. Bare is the naked word.
I was picturing a shaved bear, making him a bare bear
When you think about it, bare naked is kind of an oxymoron
Just wondered which was the correct one once it is used in a different context to the actual meaning of the word bare/bear.
LOL I like that, Ruby!
There was a naked man alongside the riders!
Thankfully I missed that bit, Ruby.
And he looked a little like a bear!
Wow earlier the babbler Gapeach said to me she was going to bed with 100 words to find. i now also have 100 words to find and have come to a halt!
Nope gone past that now 99 :-)
I have all the Es except the lone one. any stats for it please?
I only have 127 words and not that one
It will have to wait I need to get going. Have a great day ((Molly & Ruby)) Happy babbling everyone.
Zoom 8/50 it could take forever
Ah thank you, TQ!! I caiught your post just in time!
... it would have ... thanks for the clue
Np
Good morning all.
Hello Sukee
Hi Ruby
Just had a little mystery fish for lunch. Even the dog wouldn't eat it!
... be French about it ... add mystery sauce and a sprinkling of mystery cheese ... ... some house red and you've got a meal fit for a queen
Hot and sultry day in July here (((
... same here bichon ... but remember ... the Starks from Game of Thrones are right ... ... Winter is Coming
The word "sultry" always makes me think of "Throw Momma From The Train".
Sorry, I don't think I've seen that. But it must be your every day weather.
It's been pretty brutal here the past few days. But I have no use for thinking about winter now. Blech, I hate winter.
Just looked at the Youtube clip
I like summer, except for the weather
... where i am it's much the same as yours ... subtract one or two from the temperature ... leave off the hurricanes blowing in from the Atlantic and add snow in January ... ... but not all that different
Bich, you don't get affected by hurricanes, do you?
... she'll get a big storm or two each winter coming in off the ocean ... we don't get that
We missed Sandy, but did get Irene. When I grew up on coastal Long Island we always had hurricanes, but not now. I's all hit or miss
hello. We got Sandy but we do not get hurricanes.
Isobel is the one that hit us the hardest.
It is going to be a scorcher today.
Sandy did so much damage to New York.
Hurricanes in the 50's were really bad. I grew up on a peninsula at the southern part of Queens County and we always got ripped
In the 50's architecture did not have the infrastructure that it has now.
Sandy was awful. I had to live (no water or electricity). Stayed with my daughter for 2 weeks before I could return home.
I remember Irene, not that long ago [slightly before Sandy] which even ripped up into Vermont
*leave
You were lucky Annie, think of the people who had no place to go
No electricity (which means no air conditioning) in a high rise building is no joke.
I was just going to say that. There were volunteers going up and dowm the stairs bringing food and water to people who couldn't leave.
Bless their hearts. What a kind thing to do.
Unbelievably kind. Walking up and down 24 flights of stairs.
When I came home, I had no car. It was washed away in the storm.
People can say what they want about New Yorkers. I think they really come through for each other when times are tough.
Especially Brooklynites..unusual breed. Then I started looking for stores that were open. There was one store near the ocean that opened and we ate ham sandwiches with tomato for almost a week until other stores started to open.
But we had water flowing and that was the important side of all of this and electricity but no heat and it was cold.
... two thirds ... must go ... a good day ... lotsa luck ... and sufficient air conditioning for all ...
good morning all. help with lone T pls

i feel yucky. tasted some all natural fruit snacks at the grocery. they looked like twizzlers but tasted like prunes.
is ne 7 a pl?
yes
ty hego
yw
Sorry to hear that TO.I hope you feel better soon. What's a twizzler?
ty Hego, i'll have to look as i only have 2x ne words
twizzlers are red licorice
they are twisty soft sticks
owl eww
i was hungry. should have know better.
hego is the ne7 a compound word?
I don't like licorice
ty Hurshy. I like red liquorice and black.I like liquorice allsorts. They are one of hubby's favourites.
No, but a word we see here and hard to clue
i despise black licorice and anything else anise flavored. i don't like twizzlers, mostly because of their texture. they're like, soft but not soft enough.
anise and dill, and anything pickled like kimchee, sauerkraut, all are anathema to me
kind of like dried fruit
We have red liquorice which are called shoe laces.i like them
same thing Lillian
they are definitely different. i like shoelaces better
yeah the shoelaces are better than twizzlers
twizzler shape is weird cause the outside has these kind of "sharp" sticky outy bits
twizzlers have so much gook, like corn syrup i guess, that make the texture.
licorice is just nasty in my opinion
When i was in high school we use to go to a local shop at lunch and could buy a big bag of shoe laces for 20p.not now, alot more expensive
<--only eats chocolate.
chocolate chocolate chocolate!
can anyone help with ne7?
i remember eating the black with the bulls eyes as a kid, but i won't eat black licorice now
hurshy yep
chocolate makes everything better
I don't eat chocolate much.I have more of a savoury tooth.
it's very sobering to think about how sweetened chocolate has only been eaten since the middle ages. think about that - NOBODY in the bible ever tasted chocolate. Julius Caesar. Plato, Aristotle, Socrates... no chocolate.
hurshy chocolate is actually very bitter
I don't know what they ate back then
or corn, or tomatos, or coffee or potatos.
uhh didn't they grow their food back then?
They didn't have that stuff in Europe back then.
they grew food but they didn't all have all the types of plants. hence the thanksgiving story involving the pilgrims being introduced to corn by the native americans.

kap, today i read a profile of a young lady whose profession was a trauma-informed dual diagnosis therapist. what is that in english?
i am out poof
She treats people with 2 diagnoses?
In english she works with people who have mental health and addictions who have experienced trauma that made them addicted
And is up on trauma?
Sounds like a trauma doctor or nurse
Interesting...
that is not unusual, i would think, that a client might have more than one thing going on.
Yes, trauma treatments can be specific. She can also be a psychologist.
I have at least 8 things going on every hour.
Mental health, addiction and trauma...triple diagnosis?
she talked about unpacking the trauma of living in an oppressive society.
her words, not mine
"Dual Diagnosis" is a construct. Years ago it meant Mentally retarded and psychologically disturbed, but in it's current use it means addicted and bi-polar or something of that order.
ah.
Jargon phrases sound funny ou of context.
i did not mean to say it's when I meant its.
yes they are.
A matter of great importance to me.
It is interesting how the psyche field classifies these days. One thing generally sprouts from the other. Trauma creates bi-polar which lends itself to addiction.
yes, to nearly all babblers.
not sure about the oppressive society. unless there are race or gender issue.
Poverty, non-democratic, oppressive hmidity...?
However, someone like Kap needs to know the origins of what they are attempting to treat.
here are two (alleged) words used in the article: intentionality and intersectionality.
Trauma has bio-psycho-social aspects. My trauma is not your trauma, Rhymes with drama. Or the trauma can be shouldered by a group of people, such as black families.
interesting.
Intersectionality is a jargon word that I choose not to use.
i hated it immediately. actually, both of them
Intentionality is just intention
Eschew Obfuscation.
And trauma is a real, experienced psychologically damaging event. As opposed to drama, which is usually self-created.
yes.
Or created by someone with talent, like Tennessee Williams or the daytime soap people.
Or created by someone with talent, like Tennessee Williams or the daytime soap people.
the people in the article ranged in age from about 28 to 35. perhaps it is generational.
Drama can come from trauma, inherited from Grandma.
the language, not the trauma.
No, it's out in the field.
My Drama Came From Trauma Caused By Grandma could have been a great Alan Sherman song.
not quite the stuff of country songs. ;)
If I had a drama, I'd drama in the morning.
i am so long out of the field,..
But if I had a dramamine, I'd take it on the plane
uh oh dinner's burning!
I am out standing in the field
Hello Drama, that came from trauma...caused by my Grandma, from Alabama. I am weeping, I need treatment...and none of this will bear repeatment.
on that note...
st5/16 pls
st5 to hinder
i think it's more an American word. It's not a word often heard i don't think.
*here
Use the sometimetimes vowel Peri
ty lil
Sorry, it wasn't a good clue but yw
your clues were great lil
As usual.... Trundling into the chog when the conversation is well & truly finished.... But a line from Helen Reddy's song Angie Babe comes to mind .... 'Its so nice to be insane, No-one asks you to explain'....
Hi ((Sooodle))
Hiya Lil :-)
((())) How is that bairn of yours doing?
I feel like the harbinger of doom, but it all seems to be kicking off in Turkey now...
She fine thanks. She's at her Grandad's and on Monday she's taking him on a train to Aberdeen for a couple of days as he wanted to go over a bridge on the train.
Oh, is it? I must look
Some sort of coup....
Oh Lil - that sounds cool
Aye, apparently the military are taking over
I think she's looking more forward to it than he is and it was his decision to do it.
How are your bairns' Soodle.
what a powder keg.
I'm watching the news about Niece and i was watching it live last night as it was happening, which was shocking enough but now hearing other stories from people there is even worse.
Powder keg TO?
middle east.
gosh, i feel sluggish. did not get my AM walk in today, had to go downtown. what a difference.

hmm. those fruit chews are having a bad effect on me.
one is a plural
SDomeone clued it earlier as Spanish for 30 , but it's spelt differently as i found out
*someone
no,that's spelled correctly lil
oops
no the vowels are reversed
Is it? I googled it and it had an a on the end and not an i at the beginning but and e
thanks

What fruit was in the chews To?
Hang on, i'll look
not sure.
et8/50
probably apples, and maybe carrots
ty lil
Obviously something off, well i hope you feel better.Maybe drink loads of water to flush it through your system
Perhaps it wasn't the fruit things and you're coming down with something?Hopefully not.
i hope not.
fructose can cause symptoms
Maybe that's it then
Hi all.
Are you diabetic TO?
that all natural stuff will kill you ;)
Hi Sukee.
I know, we're told to eat loads of fresh veg and fruit but alot of fruit has alot of natural sugar which isn't good for us, because it causes alot of other problems.
I was happily eating organic spinach when I saw something on a leaf and holes... needless to say, I stopped eating it. Instead I had onion rings and chicken nuggets :)
Was it shop bought or were you eating out Sukee?
The spinach was store bought, then I ordered in.
I must admit i can't stand chicken nuggets as it's normally reformed meat but i do like onion rings.Did you wash the spinach?
It was supposed to be pre-washed. I should have washed it again. These nuggets are actually real chicken.
I buy spinach in bags from the shop but i still wash it.Some bags will say unwashed. It's the same with alot of the salad and veggies
Lesson learned :)
I've learned the lesson too Sukee, when i've seen dead flies on pre-washed salad and veg
a fly got in the apartment and the cats are going crazy. It was hiding for a while now the chase is on again.
I'm more into washing anything i buy since i got an ameobic infection in Egypt and ended up in hospital for a couple of days.I know they probably washed it in their water which isn't purified like ours but i know alot of store bought veg probably isn't washed either.
Unless you grow it yourself, nothing is free from a lot of nasty stuff it encounters in the field, being picked, being bagged or boxed and being trucked to your store.
My cat tends to go after bees! Dozy mare!
I must admit Molly, apart from this year i did grow my own salad leaves and sometimes flies or insects did eat the leaves, but i would still wash and throw the holey ones away.
I still grow tomatoes, strawberrries, blueberries and raspberries
I do like alot of spinach, i'm going to have to see how easy it is to grow and if i can grow it in tubs or window boxes
lilliann, i've never grown spinach but i grow chard in tubs and window boxes. it is easy to grow and tastes like spinach. :-) i reckon spinach is probably quicker and easier than chard
Does anyone know what a low fodmap diet is, and are you on one?
Thanks Glant.I don't know whether i've had chard or not, but if it's easy to grow in tubs i'll try it.But i must admit, i've never seen a spinach plant to grow so i'll have to look for seeds.Do you buy a chard plant and grow it on or is it seeds GLANT?
vaguely, and no Kaplan
sorry Glant, didn't mean to shout your name
I've never heard of it Kap
Why Kap are you thinking of going on one?
No, I was told I have to. Which means total cofusion and unhappiness.
why confusion and unhappiness? did the doctor not give you information about it? It's supposed to be quite helpful for some intestinal issues.
Eliminate most fodmaps- onions, garlic, wheat, soft cheeses, watermelon, cauliflower, beans, apples, ...
Brussel sprouts, artichokes, avocado, let's see, what else do I like? Yogurt...
I am not happy because I have to cut foods that I like and I don't know what to snack on.
my sympathies, kap :(
:(
what kinds of things do they want you to eat more of?
maybe some of those are yummy too
Bok choy.
Spelt bread.
i just googled it and there are loads of sites about it Kap
i snack on cheerios - are oats allowed?
I can eat blueberries, not peaches
popcorn?
I think there is too much wheat in cheerios, a favorite snack
no, cheerios recently reformulated to be gluten free, it no longer has wheat
Really? I'm on it!
i know because my nephew is gluten free and he was sooooooo excited when i told him
Yeah, me too!
I went on a low fat one from Stanford health care and theyn said you can have onions and garlic
No, this is about how things react in the gut.
Kap this site may be helpful for you. http://www.aboutibs.org/low-fodmap-die\nt/guidelines-for-a-low-fodmap-diet.htm\nl
are you already on probiotics?
Onions are a major offender.
I was not prescribed them but I have some around.
The thinking is to eat similar to this for 6 to 8 weeks not a life time.
than you sunrise. I
i don't know anything about IBS, really, but i know that probiotics are generally supposed to help promote positive things in the gut
If it doesn't kill me in 6 weeks. Thank you.
really? I think i was reading it wrong! I couldn't be without my onions and garlic
All the best Kap. If your having difficulty with diet , seeing a dietitian would be helpful.
Acupuncture and acupressure for IBS have been very effective for some. We need to quit relying on western medicine.
I was reading it wrong, all the good things are bad things :(
Lots of information on the Fodmap diets if you do a Google search on that
I was told i had IBS years ago but was never told what i coud and couldn't eat.Has it happens i don't have it.
Typing crap as normal!!
the new thing here is food allergy patch testing for IBS
I now I can google. I'm just complaining.
food and eating are one of the most fundamental aspects of our lives. it is a pretty emotional thing to have to make changes. but if it is 6 weeks only, that's something to look forward to later!
Some physicians are real big on diagnosing IBS for people who are gassy or have bowel issues. That is not always the proper diagnosis.
i think it is a diagnoses when all others have been ruled out
I feel for you Kap, because since i've been through early menopause 12 years ago i had to stop eating certain things that would trigger hot flushes but, life is too short and now if i want something i'll eat it and begger the consequences.I'll suffer after but atleast i've enjoyed something i like to eat!
Seems to me that this diet is a cheap and easy and possibly effective thing to try...abdominal isues seem to be notoriously hard to resolve - and the various test/scans more than a little expensive. Hope the diet works for you Kap.
It's amusing. When we were all in our twenties, running around eating burgers and pizza all the time, we had no digestive issues. Now that we are "of a certain age" and eat what is called "healthy food" many are having issues.
*Goes to the PB bar to make Metamucil Cocktails for all
Guess we all want to live a little longer than we were designed to
Very true Molly and in the years past especially with my grand parents, eating suet and loads of fat, treacle, sugar and my nan is now 98
Metamucil coctail?
Molly was being facetious Lill
I've cared for people eating all the 'bad 'things we eat now and they live alot longer than us now.
metamucil is a fiber product that you dissolve in a beverage and drink
Oh, so it makes you go to the loo and do a number 2!
Ty Lyn
time to make a crappy entrance I guess
Hi all :0
hi liz.. I think Lillian is too pooped to answer right now
I guess she had to run
How's life in your new home, Ru?
Hi Liz and Ru:)
Hi Lil
I had to go to the loo :D
It blocked the toilet Ru :D
I can't run Liz, but i had to do wheelies in my chair! :)
Hi Ru, it's all about bowel problems here tonight. How cheery.
I know that, Lil - it was a feeble attempt to continue Ru's joke!
Hi Molly
Hi Liz.
Just thought I'd say that there are no health issues here :)
I was joking too Liz :)
Because I don't think people say that often enough :)
:) Lil
LOVE My new house liz.. I love it here
I'm always pooped which is why i sleep alot.
That's great, Ru - has Dylan settled now?
people usually tell me I am full of .... on never mind
:)
Dylan is settled. He likes it here too
So all's good in Ruworld :)
Ru, do you live in the same town /County or have moved to another town?
yes.. all good. Just wish it was busier in the biz.. but it's kind of nice to not have to work so hard when the weather is great
I moved in the same town Lillian.. from a rental into my own home after the divorce.
That's sort of how I feel. Early retirement and the move to QLD - can't really remember the drudge of work. So much else to do.
<---still drudging
But if you have to drudge, I guess wine is a good industry to drudge in. Better than stroppy 11 year olds!
Oh, sorry to hear about your divorce.I've missed alot being away from babble.Good that you have your own home now and your son lives with you?
I don't have a son.. I Have a doggy
Divorce is fine. We parted amicably and are back to being great friends
I love her still, but can't live with her any longer
My hubby's like that with his ex - people find it quite weird when she and her partner come and stay with us!
Oh , that's right, you have a golden retriever or labrador?
I remember you were fairly amazed when Rolin and I explained it on babble!
it's nice when it can work out that way liz. I did my best in counseling to keep on an even keel through the process so that things didn't fly off the handle.
or knowing my memory none of them
I was very amazed with Rolin
I have a Golden Lillian.. and will be adopting a lab too
You understand better now though, I'd guess?
I do understand now. Makes total sense.
What colour lab? Golden, choccy or black?
I know what it's like to love some one but not be able to live with.
doesn't matter to me liz.. whatever they bring me that fits my description. Color doesn't matter, Brains do.
I have to run to a doctor's appt. Best of luck everyone
Look forward to seeing pics, when you get it. Back in a few minutes - need to hang washing out. Not my fav job! Good luck at the docs.
My hubby was the same with his ex wife and i was the same with my ex fiance but not anymore as they are with other people.
Bye Ru and tc hin
What is choccy?
chocolate brown

Aye, brown colour
We also say choccy for chocolate
Hi Lyn

Hello Babblers

Thanks, Molly
On 2nd list run through - hate it when I miss plurals.
i think it's easy on this frid, plus pt and don't forget the nearly vowel( i can't think of what we say for that letter)
Good enough for me! It's weird - I really have missed some very obvious words :( Down to 10
But I guess that happens on larger grids.
*grid
Sometimes vowel
i think we do that all the time Liz
Unless you live in Wales, where all the vowels are consonant.
That's it, ty Molly
Very true, Molly.
*Consonants
Yes,majority are.My da taught me some welsh.I remember some phrases but have forgotten alot, but saying that i think he told my brother and i what he could remember as he left Wales when he was 8 and lived in England the majority of his life.
Fireworks.
Thanks for the chat and the clues. Need to go and make some bread. Good luck with the grid, Lil.
And i didn't mispell dad either...my da would be proud of me. he always writes mam on cards too which my mam doesn't.Mam is also a Northern term but southern is mum.
Yay!!WTG Liz. Nice to catch up with you. tc hin.

ti8/40 please?
metal can + rock

ti 8/60 is cleaning helpful hints
how is that a single word?!
ask dear abby
or Eloise :D
I don't have either of them handy, you'll have to pinch hit :)
you're welcome :D
you'd be a great etiquette advisor, right?
I would
I can be very polite when I need to be
I thought so. what would your column be called?
the Ru Principles
nice
I don't think I could handle polite. I'd be more in the Dan Savage line of blunt and sarcastic
you'd probably be more popular :)
not sure about that
snark sells
firewords! Last word te6/18 - cylindrical
Thanks for clues, I'd have been forever looking for that ti8
wtg jes
snark may sell, but who would trust a person with purple hair and a house goat to direct them?
congrats, jes!!
well if a push becomes a chevre...
There's the punniness for which we've been waiting.
Trying to update my icon and it won't upload ;(
hmm
Tried 3 times. Now trying a different picture and failing again.
