good morning all
fireflies Bye all
my favorite grain's n the grid today. :)
Why is helter not a word? Been using it all my life LOL. Morning all.
me too Glant
As in 'what the helter, why is this grid so small today?' @glant
good morning all.
help with lone T in 4th column pls
hey, peri!
JB's Anno are you prepared for the Democratic convention? Thank goodness I now live in the suburbs
Ya, peri, I take the train in from chestnut hill, so I'll miss most of the craziness. I work at CHOP, so across the river too!
good morning
Hello!
Just started, so nothing yet.
wow I worked at CHOP many years ago and I graduated from Penn
Ruby! Annie! g morning!
A, a true philadelphia girl. I
I
grr, this keyboard...
I'm having fun; watching the Tour which is very nearby, showing "my" lake
I'm a transplant, been in Philly since 1998
born and raised in Philadelphia.
hi ruby, peri, JB
38 left and stuck bbl. going to be in the mid 90's today and I have a hairdresser apt at 3 pm ugh
Grew up n NH an hour north of Boston. Love the colonial vibe of Phila
what fun, ruby
It's on roads and through villages all well-known to me
If you can see excerpts, you'll see Lake Annecy
Wrap that hair UP, peri, gonna be a scorcher
not looking forward to this afternoon weather
Nice, ruby! Do you get out to see them up close? Then 5 minutes later, they're past, okay, time to go home again!
Where are you, Annie? Geographically speaking...
Brooklyn
Hot times in the city for sure
fe 6/27, the second one, pls
a fine fe6 you put me in!
Well, felter is too a word, Mr. Enable Dictionary!!!
Oh, that's the 3rd one
Aww, ty, Annie
that's the word that bichon needs, so good!
It's not taking felter, I keep trying it...
fe, double consonant, ending in one who does
going to fill my coffee cup
And isn't a vetter one who vets?
Oh, pesky double consonant. Thanks again
yw
no vetter, hmmm
No, as in helter skelter, coming down fast - a fairground slide (and subsequently a Beatles song) @ JBsAnno
I am a thrid fo the way through and struggling a bit.
I am confused, was a clue for the second fe /27?
fe6/27, to tie at the ankles
and the title of a book about the manson killings--helter skelter
not sure if that's the second one though
second one - just got it - same first 4 letters and start of le4
dont have the second fe 6/27
then pl it for the 7
the second fe 6/27 comes after a **** tip pen
ah, I have the thrid and fourth then
fe6 - male person who cuts trees down?
that's the first one, Glant
fe6 - uncle form a 1960s tv show - Munsters?
also means to go bad
ooh, thanks Glantarell
just found them cos you made me look LOL
Uncle Fe6 was on The Addams Family
any clues for the N words or A word would be appreciated in return :-)
The A word is a pain : D
ac4---tooth problem

good morning
Good morning, all. A few precious moments of Babble before schlepping the cat to the vet.
Hi judi
Hmmm, surely a person who tu4/5 is a tu6/14?
apparently not today.
lots of words I use in this grid are not words today :-)
quest
quester
sorry bad entry (embarrassed hello)
hi ruby
Back from cat vet visit #1. #2 visit this afternoon.
Hi TO. I'm watching the Tour which is pretty close to here today. So beautiful!
what is wrong with the cat, judi?
Just annual check-ups, TO. The only injury is to our bank balance.
stet
oops again, can't multi-task
ah...and you need to go back? that is some exam
ruby are you watching on tv?
Two cats. Each has their own appointment. Only have one carrier, so I have to take them one at a time.
Yes, it's much better on TV and it's fun seeing local towans, "my" lake and nearby mountains
Have a na8 - is there another 8?
There's a storm on the Tour and I can hear the thunder, but the sun is still shining
Re8, Alleyn.
ty judi. too bad, i gave away a carrier whilst cleaning recently
see, that is why you should NEVER get rid of stuff lol
S'ok. I have a soft one. The hard sided carriers are too heavy for me to lift.
Sounds like my life motto, Judui, I have a garage full of "stuff" including 3 huge dog carriers
i used this one to carry two cats, about 28 lbs. carrier was light
There's always a cardboard box around in case dual transport is ever needed. They LOVE the carboard boxes.
how do you keep them in it?
No, just the one
alleyn
Hint for re8 pls
I've never transported a cat in a cardboard box. I suppose I could just tape it shut if need be. We only live about 1/2 mile from the vet.
Cats often turn around and re8
People, on the other hand usually say re8 only about moving a significant sdistance
?? helen
Ty for the topical clue, Helen.
Depends on the cat Judy - we had one coming home from the SPCA ina cardboard carrier - clawed her way through it in less than threee blocks.
Yeah. Declawing is essential before cardboard transport.
judi is this still the big tom who got beat up some time back?
VAguely hoping to offer Alleyn clues since I had misread the earlier query and said no to more 8's!
Claw clipping, I should say.
re8 - re + se6 - to stay in one place
i understand very few if any vets will do it any more.
No, TO. This was one of my girl cats. Embry the 8 lb tuxedo. She's a love. My other cat, Viv, will go this afternoon.
claw-clipping that cat was a life-threatening effort - my life!
Need an idiot clue for re8 pls
declaw, i meant
Norman went earlier this summer. The rugged beast master.
re8 - re + se6 - to stay in one place
refugess from syria are being re8 in norway
aaah, thank you
Thx
Impossible for me to clip Embry's claws - even if hubby and I double-team her. Yowling, screaming, clawing, biting. However, the vet tech said she didn't make a peep today. Hmmmm.
sorry, are being re8d
they know who they can con.
i had a clawed house cat ONCE. despite all training aids, he clawed. destroyed all upholstery
Viv squirms so much, I can never wrangle her either. Oh well. Clipping just better left to the experts I guess.
do you swaddle them?
Fortunately, mine only use their scratchers. One chair is clawed on the corners (the leather one, of course), but that's an easy fix. My plan is to buy some heavy fabric and tack it on with some nail heads.
god bless you. i cannot deal with that. mine never showed ill effects after declawing. i think living on the street, or ending up gassed in a shelter, is a lot worse.
I tried to swaddle that cat in a big towel - the towel and all my clothes were streaked with blood, and the cat was quite pleased with herself!
Pffth. Swaddling is a disaster. I usually just try to sneak up on them when they're sleeping so I can clip their dew claws.
ah, helen, that is why we love them so. ever the bit of the big cat in them
The dew claws are really the only ones that get over-grown.
Years ago, I had a weird male cat who used to step in dog poop so I'd swaddle him and give him a bath.
But he was small
Eww.
You're right about that, Judi - in her old age that cat let my daughter and me hold her down and clip her dewclaws - one per day, of course!
Ah, tuxedo cat has forgiven me and is now rubbing against my foot.
the conversation is nice but i have lost interest i n this grid. time to do some housework.
Perhaps he thinks it is lunchtime?
Nah, she just has a foot fetish.
FW - at last! Good babbling, all.
woot helen
WTG, HELEN!!!!!
Good day best buddies
Time to go squeeze in a pedicure before the next vet visit. 16 left. See y'all later!

Are you still here, Montreal?
Soodle the Younger visited your city 2 weeks ago , & declared it a wonderful place! She did all the touristy things & had a blast!
Meanwhile - I'm very much looking forward to meeting up with our Trifiso on Monday 🤗
Wonders what the rectangle at the end of Soodle's meet up with Trif post means.

fw finally
went to boulevard finally last night, ru
oh.. did you like it?
have you tried Mourad?
I love Boulevard.. so consistent
I'm going to Torc tonight
it was good, solid, but I think I had expected more
If my friends ever get back from wine tasting all day
yes, mourad is good, as is his place in the richmond
progress and al's place may be my new faves though
We just sold wine to Mourad.. so I'll have to check it out.
We had pork barbecue and cole slaw tonight. Plebeians.
Progress is great
Cole slaw sounds really good to me right now
do you like moroccan?
I have the few times I have tried it
I haven't tried Al's Place.
I don't think I can eat at Al's.. too many nuts in the menu
you'll like it then... it is moroccan with a cali twist ; )
it's a beautiful space. the wine buyer is really nice
ah, that may be true... but they ask allergies, so depends on how allergic you are. If nuts in the same kitchen set you off, then prob avoid... but I would say that is true about Mourad somewhat too, and many kitchens
i'm highly allergic to some nuts
tried Mister Jui's also, hot spot in Chinatown... it was interesting and I enjoyed it, but it may just be a one time affair for me unless visitors want it
have you tried Trou Normand?
not yet, but it is on the list
we have decided Thursday night is try new place night as the ones we want to try were just getting too many to keep up with. So one/week
I have to try Lazy Bear soon too.
have you gone? worth it?
no.. but I'm friends with the buyer there too.. but haven't been in.
Benu is # 1 on my list.
yeah, well... that is too expensive to be a regular spot
remind me.... no fish at all or just not raw?
I have to go through the kitchen to meet with the somm.. and it smells like heaven in there
cuz benu does a lot of seafood
fish I eat.. but not salmon or mackerel
i don't cook much fish at home due to the smell
i ate at le bernadin in NYC and that was all fish
i made a killer crab salad last night for my friends
mmmm... crab has really gone up in price this year, I noticed. what caused the shortage?
probably due to the loss from last season with that algae bloom
yeah it was $40 a pound at WHole Foods
we did put a nice dent in my wine cellar last night :D
(i'll shut up now.. hogging the chat)
it was empty anyway. my clue request was the first comment in over an hour
but... I must be off... need to get things wrapped up - have a good weekend
Whole Paycheck is a pricey place to shop. But hey, spend it if you got it.
I don't have a choice really molly.. all the other stores are like Safeway and I hate safeway
I do shop at lucky's a lot too.. that's very plebian :D
howdy
Hi Jes
How goes, dr?
I am good. And you?
not bad. supposed to be big storms but so far weather's pretty good
We are warm here in San Diego. Where I live it is 103 today. I am glad your storms have not made an entrance yet
eek. that is WAY too hot
yes, I agree
are you succeeding in hiding from the outrageous heat?
so far I am . I worked at home today and stayed inside with the fans on
good deal
hey all - DR, LOVED this pics of your son this week -- the blue hair was perfect.
howdy stid :)
Hi Stid1
That was from Comic Con
jes, the quaker parrot is sitting on my legs happily shredding a paper towel. He appears to be starting to molt and has been GRUMPY with the "hormone" changes... *big mama sigh* but I keep loving him, even though he leaves holes on my fingers sometimes. Glad we're just birdsitting and not birdowning!
hah. birds are such high maintenance.
my dog brought me one last night. I have no idea where she got it, so can't put it back in the nest. So i guess I'm raising a bird now, along with the bat.
oh, he just asked so politely for me to put him on my shoulder... *heart melty mama look*
I had finches for a while until I realized I was allergic to feathers
His current word of contentment is "grick" -- not sure what it means...
quakers are pretty cute
oh, and he is chirping a little bit, too -- I will be sad to leave tomorrow morning for my vacation!
vacation should be good though!
I am allergic to most birds, but not this fellow. Funny, because the one who died a year or so ago was a similar species and I was VERY allergic to him.
Yes, Ashland holds many happy memories. My grandfather and I spoke a little bit this afternoon -- planning a trip to Crater Lake with him while we are there. :-)
I wasn't allergic to the budgies, either. :-) But they were LOUD, so I don't think we're likely to get new ones.
meantime, your dogs are cute as buttons, DR!
I've never really wanted pet birds - too messy, too loud, too high maintenance. I don't have time to do proper care and socialization
They can require a lot. I think the best was when we had the two budgies. They were buddies for each other when we were away. And Lucky left them alone once he figured out they were not a threat to anyone. :-) Even with barbeque sauce they were barely a mouthful! And I am the same -- the birds I would like would be the smart ones, and they need far more of my time and energy than I have when I teach so far away from home.
I do love them, though -- such interesting, beautiful life forms.
they're fun to watch, but i'm good with them being outside :)
:-)
brb trying to wash some new clothes before I pack
back. It finally is sunny here. It was cloudy and stormy all day!
22 remaining, I think I will list.
7 here, and over half of them are 7 letters...
go jes go!
wow. the ce7 is just straight up a proper name. even the definition says that's what it is.
bird really likes my gluten free bread! LOL
and here i thought proper names weren't accepted.
It is also the name of a glorious musical instrument
ah

hi crossy
I am around-- just very hard for me to type on this lil tablet with my crossy "bear paw" hands
Hodwy jes
The bell-like quality is exceptional. I love this instrument when it's live! It is also (perhaps more commonly) called the same beginning ending in -ina (italian diminutive)
you need a peripheral keyboard, my friend!
i've heard of it with the ina ending, but didn't know what it was
tee 5/6 combo after the golf ball stands?
what's in your mouth
garrrrgh. *bird shrieks and flaps awkwardly away*
could it be ANY fishier???? *bangs head on keyboard*
at least it wasn't literally a fish. i asked for a t word once that turned out to be trout
oh gee... LOL I have done that, too.
only it was the salmon ty5
ty 4 *sigh* not tired... have to clean the car still and pack... *sigh sigh sigh*
I am actually considering a new toy-- a Kobo Aura H2O reader. It has a nice large screen and wi-fi. Will nit cross my eyes to play babble on an e- Ink screen--besides, all my current e-readers are on their last legs.

It is onteresting
But expensive
thank you to montreal13 for the E clue which i only just got around to seeing and using...

hey stid, hey tor! hello DR1965!
Heya Ms. hurshy ..
ugh. what the shit is wrong with people? why would you show up to a business and not expect to have to pay for services at the time you receive them?
back again.
thanks tor, got it.
AGAIN, jes?
FW -- rather suddenly, I thought I had 10 to go! LOL
yay stid!
again, and this one should damn well know. she called on emergency last week, declined to come in on emergency after discussion of charges, made appointment for next day during business hours. showed up 3 hours late with no money.
another client entirely unrelated to her paid her bill after she made a fuss in the lobby
made a follow up appointment for today after discussion of expected costs because she was getting paid yesterday and wouldnt have had money wednesday.
showed up today with no money
didn't tell anyone that until after the dog was already treated, of course.
can't tell the names "richardson" and "evens" apart
Howdy babble buddies
so she thinks I'm the other doctor. then she thought i was the orthopedic specialist even though dr r told her that radiographs had to be sent to a different clinic for consult.
and it sounds like someone's here... away for a bit i think
later jes...
Love your pic jes. I love and appreciate bats.
and wow, jes... they seem to have a lot of them out your way!
I have to take an eyeball break. Laters, gators!
hi origami :) thanks! I think bats are pretty close to the cutest babies ever

the person on the wagon train with the goods: like a quartermaster on a boat.
think of a person who is the "man in charge" of the servants and answers doors and such, only instead of a B use S
thanks stid! that's firewords :)
YAY jes!!!
couldn't have done it without you :)
ditto -- LOL our conversation is like the old telephone lines where it took a little while for the signal to go through!
hi al. any clues for the second 8? i have re 8.

Heading out... have to get a move on organizing and cleaning! *poof*
