I am fortunate in a way; I managed to see him for two long visits last week, and he had this one window of clarity, where he knew us all.
when my father was on his death bed and really out of it, he squeezed my hand
They will call me today when he has moved on. I am a cancer survivor myself, so I can relate in some small way, and am comforted that he will find peace from the beast that is eating him alive.
I was able to hold his hand, Bichon, and see recognition. I will hold onto that.
Sorry to bring down the chog. Lets speak of better things for a while.

today is national middle child day..!! i am a middle child sigh lol
... well we first children will speak to you anyways even if you are only a middle child

now now, i always thought it was the 2nd of 3..
... that certainly is a middle child ... but what if the first two are twins? ... what if it's the last two who are twins? ... ... I can just see the Psych majors leaping at the chance to study ...

... I know that birth order is seen as a legitimate and serious problem ... but my hunch it's more about the way the parents raise the children and not the order
... we like to say we love them all the same and treat them all similarly ... but do we? ... Can we? ... I know my second has always been jealous of her older sister being allowed to do things that she, being six years younger, wasn't allowed to do ... but the older one complains about having to wait until she was 10 to do things while the younger one got to do them when she was 7 because she whined sufficiently and we were too tired to resist anymore
... oh well ... they're 29 and 23 now ... and still complaining ... ... ... two thirds done and the wall seems impenetrable ... can't seem to find another word anywhere ... oh well ... things to do so back later for the list ... luck to all

When my father died after a battle, i was so happy he was healed by my Father in heaven. I rejoice in the knowledge that he is not in pain anymore. But I do miss him, even though we also had a rocky relationship, he was still my daddy.

yes and one of the sailors has been diagnosed with "a severe intestinal infection" believed to have come from the water. Close up photos of the bay still show garbage and effluent flowing into water and they are reporting tht some of it includes raw sewage and hospital waste. Microbiologists have found some of the super viruses also.

i'm in favor of having just one olympic city. or one summer, one winter. vancouver has been suggested as a possibility by one article i read.
you say, track and field can go on, equestrian can go on, but we need to cancel this list of water events.
I don't think any one city or country can afford to host the Olympics on a regular basis.
it's hosting it only ONCE that is so ruinous. you build all these facilities for it only to have them then sit and rot.
i dont pretend to know much about the inner-working of the IOC. couldnt they foot the bill no matter what city hosted? to ensure conditions are good and fair for all participants?
In many of the places the infrastructure is still used -- it is the extra policing and housing and venue maintenance during the games that is so expensive
i don't think there's any way to foot the bill for cities that don't have existing facilities - the cost is astronomical to build them. they used to take it on hoping for tourism revenue to balance it out, and the honor/glory of hosting. now it's down to honor/glory.
Am someone who enjoys the Olympics ... but all that money is a concern. as hurshy said, those facilities get built and then, generally, sit there empty and rot away...
and when the news is full of the pollution and the muggings, the honor/glory kinda goes away too.

It has been a beautiful day today with temps expected to hit around 35c/ 95F by the weekend!

Well, if you like hot, sticky, humid, muggy, along with 95F, just come right over to Philadelphia!
I do like it hot I must admit but then I am as skinny as a rake so seem to be fine in those conditions lol.
It's the 3rd or 4th heat wave of the summer, I've lost count. 3 or more days of 90F or higher in a row. I only go outside to commute!
Yeah see here it is rare to get high temps..they normally get to about 21C/ 70F and when it does get hot then it only lasts for a few days before the thunderstorms take over.
I hope you can find ways to keep yourself cool though.
I would love a thunderstorm or two that would actually wash away the heat and humidity for longer than an hour afterward. I have hope, which is why I always have an umbrella (bumbershoot) (love that word) with me!
