Hi Dee, yw
and hi
baby chicks and goats are cheery, yes
much cheerier than my cat having cancer, and scheduling difficulties, and two teenagers robbing and killing a man after he helped them get their SUV out of a ditch.
so very sorry, hurshy; sounds like a plateful
da 7
is anyone else having trouble dealing with that news story?

Good morning, Babblers :)
Hi Crossy
xoxox liz and crossy
Hi and hugs, Rose
{{hugs}} liz. how are you both?
We're fine - tired - effect of vodka - won't be here long tonight. How are you?
hallo
lol... good ol' vodka. doing well thanx.
g'day harry
Hi Harry - still in Israel?
I am fine. Rain has finally come to our area and all the fire bans have been lifted. This is 3rd day of rain now, and you can almost hear the grass and trees drinking it in.
yes :)
another week and then home :(
mmm...vodka....
That's good, Crossy. Hope you saw my note the other day.
Lucky you, Harry. Perhaps I'll get back one day.
I am not sure, liz. It has been a crazy week :(
it's been a beautiful trip. trying not to overpack the days - giving the kids downtime
Well, you know - condolences to you and yours and how wonderful that your father's eyes were going to a young girl.
Where have you visited, Harry?
Ahh yes, I did see that. The support and condolences from Babblers has been amazing to say the least!
brb need to get meds ready. and crossy?? special hugs my dear man. how are you holding up?
sorry crossy - didn't know :(
It's a great community - good people.
((rose) I am doing O.K Was very, very sudden. Just a month and a half from diagnosis to the end
we've spent time in Jerusalem, and are now in Nahariya, touring the north a bit, giong to the beach
Better for him, harder for family when it's so quick.
Still trying to absorb it it. I managed to see him for two days-- about an hour or two each day before the end. :(
That sounds lovely. I love Jerusalem - had relatives in a moshav near nahariya.
Very sad, Crossy - hugs from me too.
Harry, is it your kids' first visit?
we were all here 4 years ago. I was here alone 2 years ago. The two oldest were here twice before that, but don't really remember it
Sounds like an amazing trip, Harry :)
it is crossy - we are very fortunate.
Shame it's such a long way from Aus - I was last there in 2000 - long time ago now.
do you have brothers and sisters crossy?
crossy, that was the same for my dad. just a mere 6 weeks from diagnosis to his death. not enough time to say good-bye properly. i slept by his hosital bed for the last three days.
hi, I was given clues for the MO7/40 but don't understand them, could some kind person try again please
I have one brother and one sister--only my brother was able to make it in time with me. I only knew of it in the last week and a half
mo + consonant + not alkaline
thanks liz got it that time!!
yw
14 left for tomorrow - enjoy the rest of your holiday Harry and hugs to all.
bye liz :)
((liz))
clue for the second column lone A?
hello friends. Crossy, my deepest condolences - I am just hearing this news now.
ai4/5 harry
ty granny. can't believe I missed that. nbt
whew. i cannot believe it. i have cooked nearly 11litres of soup today. anyone want some?
what kind of soup?
you do have a choice. lamb shank and vegetable with pearl barley and lentils or chicken and sweet corn with egg noodles.
oh! it's winter in australia. I can't imagine cooking soup in the summer
you could make cold soup like gazpacho
I'm a vegetarian, so I'm afraid I'm skipping you soup :) though it sounds like it smells wonderful.
oh those both sound so good!!! will have to take a raincheck though - 90 degrees here again
hey
love gazpacho. but my kids would not eat it
here I'm busy in the kitchen too, but it's stoning mirabelles. Several kilos every day
hello buggie
lol harry, how about cream of mushroom or asparagus?
heello everybody
<---- putting some into the freezer for trifs
love me some mushroom barley soup.
whoot {{hugs}} and kisses dear ruby
my mirabelles are ripening, too
((rosie))
hey ruby
(((crossy)))
This is my first year in my new house, I have 2 huge mirabelle trees, so that's all I seem to be doing lately....
Many of them are spotty (probably wormy, too) but I can't use i nsecticie because of the dogs
harry that's for next week. my church has opened it's doors to the greater community, providing them with a warm area for coffee and a chat, and/or lunch to follow.
I've got a few worms, but no spots really. It's my pears that are all spotty
buggie, I don't remember if I asked you before, but what part of France are you in?
Poitiers, in what is now called "Nouvelle-Aquitaine"
that's nice of you grannyrose
I'm signing off. the internet in this airbnb apt is driving me crazy. will bbl.
Hazah, I spent time in Poitiers, had an old friend who taught at the univerity
later harry. take care of you
bye Harry, if you ever want a great, but very complex gazpach recipe, I can send it
You wouldn't recognise the town centre now, they've completely redone it
time for my pillows. love and hugs to all.
Even the old past with the beautiful dark stone?
bye rosie
oh round the Notre Dame church is still the same. Although they cleaned the church itself so it's a rather bright almost white
but the main square by the mairie and all the streets around have been paved. Some people like it, I don't. The stones reflect the light, even when it's cloudy I have to wear sunglasses. And when it rains it's really slippery...
That's like Paris, between '64 and '69
ty ((Trif, Ruby))
I liked Paris better when the buildings were darkish
I am back and forth tending my kitchen duties :)
well, the church makes for good postcards now, and they illuminate the front of it in colour every evening during the summer. I'm used to it now
At leas, here in Annecy, they've left the old town alone, so the soft, old "fard" colors remain
The downside is that in summer, the hordes of European tourists descend en masse!
Just had a quick look on street view, looks quite ni
nice there
we get a lot of tourists here during the summer, but they don't usually stay long, it's usually just a stop half way on their way down to Spain
I'm in a village about 15 mins awat, down the east side of the lake
We are in tourist country as well, Ruby. We have one area in particular called "Wasaga Beach." it is home to the wolds longest freshwater beach at 7 miles in length. I lived there from 1989 to 1993 or so. In 1992, the town had to literally close due to excessive tourists. After the dust settled, we discovered there had been approximately 200,000 visitors for that July long weekend. The normal population at that time was just over 1500 souls.
There are a lot of motorcyclists who come for weekends, very few Americans (and none in my village)
Wow, crossy!
When they closed the town on the Sunday, I had to show my I.D to get back into town !
I guess the choice is living someplace ugly or putting up with tourists
secret here is to go far enough north that they are at a minimum
Here, too, just far enough away but not too remote
it is a love/hate relationship :)
like everything else, LOL
us locals sit back in awe at the ostentatious displays of disposable income.
God has been grumbling (thunder) and crying (light rain) off and on all day
here it kind of balances out, 1/3 of the town's population is students, and most aren't here in summer, so they get replaced by tourists. There's not a huge difference between touriste season and student year
been raining here for three days now, and we are loving it!
All the fire bans have been lifted!
This çsn't enough rain to wash the dust off
Haven't had any real rain since june here, when everything was flooding...
I'm happy to live on a steep hillside
Uh oh, see you later, kids
bye ruby
My friend in Poitiers lived in a modern high-rise, but his office was in the old past
part* bad typing!!
there's a right mix of old and new here now
Hi folksies

exciting eva. very nice.

i believe we have more or less settled on a first name. now the war wages over a middle name. ;)
2nd column a?
Oh, Jersey Shore reference in grid.
that's what I said kaplan
Eva, I forget if you found out whether it's a boy or a girl :)
may we know what this first name will be?
mkg did you get sn word?
mael -- its a boy!

Kind of. We took in a foster cat for a friend in May. She had just had 3 kittens so we took her and the kittens. We adopted out the 3 kittens and then, SURPRISE, she had 4 more about 2 weeks ago. (She had gotten pregnant in her original home while she was nursing the batch of 3...poor dear).
hurshy, we generally arent telling people, but since babble is a bubble that doesnt really touch the rest of my life, i dont mind sharing -- I believe we have agreed on Kieran.
thank goodness mkg:)
missing h words. clues welcome.
mkg -- number one!
I am out will be back poof
My son, Dylan, gets to choose one to keep. The rest we will adopt out and already have potential homes
that's a nice name. what culture is it associated with, ireland?
eva, so enjoy every second of this pregnancy. how exciting
Love that name!
nice name.......very nice.
Kieran is a great name!
Like that name
it is a celtic name, yes. but funnily enough, we got there through the asian route -- hubby is obsessed with anime + wanted to name our child something asian. nothing he tossed out tickled my fancy, until he said "what about Kirin?" i told him if he let me handle the spelling, we had a deal. ;)
any h word clues out there?
mkg, they are all ho words, ho4/ho5/ho4
TY all -- and it flows nicely with our last name, so all the better!
Great compromise there
when is he due to arrive?
ty. not finding any of them so will keep trying.
just got two. ty
MKG, it rhymes with an expression the second half of which is "vey."
due date is 9/26. but baby is measuring large, so there is a possibility for either a c-section or my being induced...i should learn more in the next few weeks...
due date is 9/26. but baby is measuring large, so there is a possibility for either a c-section or my being induced...i should learn more in the next few weeks...

still missing o word top row........
Chog- from ridiculous to divine. Congrats on baby's pending arrival
are you keeping cool?
moi?
doing my best, but its awfully hot. weather forecaster today had the nerve to say "a little cooler today -- only 93."
eva enjoy every second of it.......best time of life.
evanadine was the target of the question, it's hot when your oven is on
I was in my 9th month in January and we had to go to the hospital in a snowstorm.
lol hurshy
wont take onlay........hmmm. it is dental. an onlay is not a crown but almost is. hmmm
* and commiserations to eva
ive been very lucky with a pretty darned easy pregnancy. im 34 weeks now + really only just at the point where im uncomfortable... i really try not to complain, as so many women have it so much worse...and some women arent able to experience it at all. i consider myself awfully blessed.
I think it is inlay, mkg
still - the last month is no picnic
nan that is something else. an inlay is inside the perameters of the tooth. outlay comes on top of tooth.
sleep with a pillow in between your knees. it helps.
ok, i dont see the top o word. help!!!!!!!!!!
That's a good attitude Eva. I had a hard time controlling my bladder. He was tap dancing on my bladder
my daughters vomited for 9 mnths for each preganancy. i was lucky to only vomit for 3 months.
mkg, sounds like our President's las name
I never had morning sickness, but I did sleep a lot in the first trimester
is the second part of the mo 8 a grid word? perhaps someone would clue it as such if so?
lunar picture TO
ty
time to go, happy babbling
I'm glad that everything is going smoothly, Eva. The last months are no picnic
They used to do episiotomys in my day and afterward you felt like you were kicked by a mule
im fine when sitting -- but the moment i stand, its time to visit the ladies room! hehe and ive been quite lucky -- havent gotten ill once!
bichon, I have to say that the bladder issues are definitely the holdouts. Two 9 1/2 lbs babies later and I'm not going to jump rope anytime soon, though my ob says it'll get better :)
it is exciting. we've gone through your engagement, then your wedding, now this.
i definitely slept a LOT during the first trimester. ive had some swelling in my ankles...ive recently started getting a bit of acid reflux at night + im definitely starting to experience some back pain + discomfort in the inner-leg area -- thats probably the worst of my symptoms.
its true, TO! you all have seen me grow up here. ;)
I take a diuretic [high blood pressure] and that makes it much worse. I don't think mine is pregnancy related
you may be the last for that. it's a shame.
i guess we're all old-timers now, arent we?
I hope to grow up here sometime TO :D
i don't
i guess i should say grow older? (i dont feel grown up at all!)
hursh.. did you move to California recently?
zackly
a year ago, ruru
what part north or south?
i prefer not to discuss it on the internet. there was a babbler who kept googling me and called me at work one time and it kinda scared me.
ok.. i'm sorry. I should know better
'sok :)
well.. welcome to better weather I hope
That's very weird hurshy
thanks ruru
car are you still here?

ca7 .....clue please
I thought it was judi but might be wrong
i need the ca7 too
aeb, we're all looking for that.
Ah, thanks for clearing that up, Nan.
i was hoping it was a compound word but its not
it's weird the ca 6/21 plurals in Morewords but not here
It's the plural of ca 6/24
could someone clue the ca 7 (the last ca 7)?
other lists include the plural, but Lickety won't take it.
it is a plant that grows about 2 ft high and is covered with little yellow blossoms in june that are loaded with allergens. It is widely grown in Alberta -- try to avoid a trip between Calgary and Edmonton at that time of year!
<----does not have ca6/24
we know, hego
that's the frist one.
the last ca7/32 is the plural of the ca6
okay, bbl
We are looking for the 2nd.
om clue please/?????????
the first is ca7/36
Ca + the lion, l** + not ma, pl

TY, Aloy.
Yvw
I have just lost my mind! It's official!
could someone please clue the CA7/32?
thanks nan...didn't even notice the difference
I lost my mind years ago, Hego. It's easier this way.
Ah!, a number discrepancy!
there is no ca 7/32 - it is the extra word in lickety's list
ca...vowel, vowel not dad
lol, Hi Scrabs
NAN! TY!! TY!!

Speaking of lost minds, I have a new gardener who I'm told, i_s nice and reliable, but schizophrenic
oh how nice for you ruby
om...vowel - you find **nd on a beach
and every time he comes near the house, the dog barks frantically
the word tracks like a U
ty phae
So, at least two gardeners for the price of one?
that's better than pasture-aggressive ruby :D
*snort!*
haha, you can be my guru anytime!
good one ruru!
ruby we had a neighbor who was paranoid schiz and the time she showed up at our house our dog was silent very unusual for that dog to be that way
he's really creepy, looks at me strangely
on meds or off meds ruby?
clue for the 8 please?
Just smile and wave, Ruby. (and wear you tin foil hat).
I think dogs know a lot; I'm glad to have this one to protect me!
probably couldn't figure out which voice to bark at
on, I think
om + anachronym for asprin
i have the om word ty
or at least one of them
phae its just weird she always barked at strangers but not this woman
Mo8: Compound word. Think space travel.
ty ty, Judi, I had no id**
All dogs used to bark when they encountered by former brother-in-law. He was bi-polar (not on meds). I honestly believe dogs can detect the chemical imbalance.
the dog's choices seem arbitrary to me, but he knows when I'm uneµµµ
Supposedly there are dogs who smell cancer
judi a lot of dogs are used for therapy for many mental and emontional disorders
finally got the mo8 t
ty
nbt and nbs
ruby that is something i had heard about back in the 80s about dogs detecting cancer in humans
Yep. Know of dogs that can detect blood sugar imbalances in diabetics, impending anxiety attacks, cancer, impending seizures, etc.
When my husband was in the nursing home, they sometimes brought a dog around. It wouldn't work with a chow chow, though
i think they use german shepards a lot
and Labs
I still can't find the om or the leftest a!
Eva, how many weeks are you now?
ruby om word ends in A
Chows are not friendly enough unlesds they decide to be
ae 5/12 also ends in a
om + indefinite article + continent where olympics are being held
i'm not too fond of chows.. very odd temperaments to me
how goes your new endeavor, scrabbler?
they can be entertaining though but they are ankle biting yelpers
Did anyone see Streisand in Brooklyn?
on tv or being there Kaplan?
OMG what a dream concert that must have been!
being there. Live
hi une
not me
hey :-)
une awesome pic i love Beatrix Potter
wish I could
me too!! :-)
wasn't that a Hilary benefit?
is it a birthday or an anniversary for her?
could have been
don't think so, ru
Owl, it is challenging, but I am improving daily.
she doesn't perform often.
I read that it was part of a fundraising thing for Hilary
she has a new cd coming out
good.
une?
Pffth. Like Hilary needs the $$. Barf.
The voice is still there- not as strong.
judi Hillary needs to go away
wondering if it is helping your practice
launching her new north american tour
if what is, whose?
yes, mlf?
dics
Agreed, MLF.
lol @ judi
Owl, I have much more understanding of toddlers, for sure. They are monsters.
lol @ judi
is it a birthday or anniversary of hers or her books?
hahahaha
sorry. if I am going to curse I should do it right
as does Trump
ooohh, no, I just revisited a folder of pics of her I had saved quite awhile back and felt like posting one :-)
don't understand why anyone would prefer a mentally deranged man over hillary for president
une ohhhhh:)
Babs certainly doesn't need the money either. She's one of those artists who retires, then does ANOTHER "special concert". Just hang it up.
Hahaha. I appreciate everyone's honesty below.
thought about you last week, ru-- transported a rescued black lab puppy named Rue -- adorable!
she doesn't perform for the money
she is using people on her new cd who can't even sing or not known to do so
Babs loves to perform and her fans can never get enough :-)
who
une very true
gotta run --- BBL! :-)
she gets horrible stagefright. Once in Central Park she forgot the lyrics
Yeah, thank goodness Bernie Sanders dropped out, Nan. ;-p
hmmm ...when heating up leftovers, don;t forget to put them into the oven
that usually helps owl lol
chows are neither yelpers nor ankle-biters; they are over 70 lbs and bark like they weigh 100!
referring to who?
and dignified
oh.. cute une.
kinda high pitched at times ruby lol
I can't tell if we are talking about dogs or singers
hope I can get one someday
or tater tots.
what? A singing voice?
Kaplan she gets stage fright?
ansa
Somebody said she thought threy were entertaining but named those bad characteristics
kaplan yes
Very bad stage fright
Mmmm. Tater tots. So bad, but soooo good.
sorry for the non-sequitur
Free Clue Wednesday!
judi do you have Sonic there?
too bad i have that word scrabs
What is Sonic?
why I can't chat and find words at the same time
we went to bar louie for $5 burger happy hour. burger and martini for 10 bucks

Back. I was sending emails. I have to work from 1-5. I was supposed to be on vacation through today but vacation was cancelled when I got the boys, so I added myself back to the schedule.
i thought you went hiking?
I went to the Adirondacks in July, Owl. Injured my ankle, was told it was sprained, X-ray read as negative. Went to the orthopedist Monday due to continued pain and X-ray showed a fracture. So I have been walking on a broken ankle for almost 5 weeks. Yikes.

Lillian, I like your style. My mother and granddaughter are both named Lillian.
I'm fine cheeky, and btw, I agree with you. Don't even feel like you have to go through the whole chat to look for clues. Whatever!

Marc, too be quite honest, i haven't got a clue what's going to happen to our country with the Brexit, maybe it's a good thing or bad, who knows? i think it's been a shake up for our government which is good.
I don't like talking politics so that's all i'm going to say.
No problem just interested
can I get a clue for ca 6/24 please
Sorry, i didn't mean to be rude, i just don't talk about politics...it can cause too many arguments which i've seen here and plus i was always told not to talk about politics and religion to people i don't know as it causes arguments! :)
I have it Annie, but i can't think of a clue...hang on a min

somewhere earlier in the chog it was stated that the CA 7/32 is an "extra" word in Lickety
Hi all, and my first-glance phantomis . . . drumroll . . . picachu LOL
Hi Gwen
I just heard that John McLaughlin died ... buh-bye
hmmm, i'm not sure who that is
He had a TV show "the McLaughlin Group" for 35 years. A political commentator.
sounds like I should have heard of him, now i feel out of the loop 8 - )
former Jesuit priest, teacher, pundit and news host -- his show was on every Sunday -- conservative panel made up of politicians and journalists
yeah, i just looked him up -- i'm guessing he would have been too conservative for me to have watched his show -- even though he switched over to Dems after a long while
indeed :-)
<<< raised flaming liberal, still flaming liberal
I think he was pretty middle-of-the-road, back when there was such a thing :-)
I'm a flamer too gwen, come from a long line of flamers :-)
my daughter and I work hard to maintain the liberal banner in a family/state/region that is red red red
occasionally i will watch (or listen to) a conservative show, but not for more than a few minutes, which is usually how long it takes for them to piss me off LOL
same here, gwen
you go, une!!!
My mother was very involved in democratic party politics in California. She was friends with J. Brown, etc. Not that he is that liberal :-) I hate politics because I grew up immersed in it. Most politicians are horrible. Brown is actually an exception. My mother's legal partners were state senators, etc.
I happen to know a Michigan state legislator, a young woman who goes to my church, the exact oopposite of the stereotype of a corrupt fatcat politician. We need more like her
Indeed we do! That's one of the reasons I love Brown so much. He most definitely walks the talk. A fiscal conservative and social liberal. I wish we had more like him. He can reach across the aisle and get shit done. What the heck happened to the middle?
Lol@ "flaming liberal" Here there is really not much choice. In a province where we all share the load and give everyone healthcare paid for at tax time, it is the essence of who we are. ;)
last time I remember the US being this polarized was back in the days of Tricky Dick . . .
and kudos to you, crossy!
same crap happeneds every 30 years or so, if you look back across US history, conservatives get their hands on gubmint and start to rewrite everything to enrish themselves, until the bubble bursts and liberals get elected and go to work fixing it all. (sweeping generalization here!)
I do hate this polarization. Geesh! There are some old school republications I really like. Like Ike :-) A warrior who hated war. Who pushed for civil rights, etc. We don't see that happening now.
not republications ... but repulicans :-)
extreme dictatorialism coupled with extreme capitalism (the kind that corrupts everything) -- it's a bad combination
I am turning off auto correct now!
LOLOL!!
repulicans -- that sounds moist LOL
:-)
actually "republications" kind of fits because republicans who write extreme right-wing books just seem to rehash the same old crap LOL
No kidding Gwen! I am also concerned that the right wing has gone over to the "Christian right." We are supposed to leave religion out of politics.
Ha Gwen ;-)
we will bring back the 70s (not the fashions, but the beads, flowers, freedom, happiness part)
I wear tie dye every chance I get. I would fit in :-)
or is it peace, flowers, freedom, happiness?
I still have some big collar button shirts, but I refuse to wear cords again!
have saved some bell bottoms :-)
Oh, Crossy. They were so cool.. especially the wide wale cords.
was married in Paris in white bell bottoms :-)
when I see old tv shows fromthe 70s I ask myself did normal humans really wear that stuff? (yes they did; I was there) LOL
I wish I had my Buffalo Bill jacket from high school :-)
not revisiting my afro LOL
bell bottoms are freakin hilarious
Low waisted bell bottoms were the best. Anyone remember hot pants?
I once had a pair of mens two-toned platform shoes :)
reminds me of Soul Train . . . love to watch on youtube!
hot pants!! and hot pink hot pants !!!
My favorite pair of hot pants were gold crushed velvet :-)
mine weren't two-toned but I had some cool ones,crossy-- nearly killed myself walking on cobblestone streets in France LOL
Mmmm...hot pants...
I bet you looked great in them crossy :-)
then there were the coulots -- not sure how to spell the horrible things
mini-dresses, maxi-dresses . . . sigh
coulots were creepy. Are they shorts? Are they skirts? What the hell were they :-)
i had a pair and wore them to school. they were cool for about 5 minutes
all that polyester was pretty creepy too1
*too!
I hate polyester.
yeppers
I'm old enough now that I can wear whatever I want, even at work. If I want to channel Stevie Nicks, I will.
I'm all about lace and denim and whacky stuff.
ca7/32?
oohhh never mind
i had a pair of green pants, 100% plastic fibers, and in gym class i accidentally melted a hole in them when i slid on the floor during a basketball game (or some game, don't remember what). pants should not catch on fire and melt during gym class. Period.
hee hee
sounds funny now but it was rather scary at the time
(by the way, the hole was where my knee was, not my butt)
FW!! Back at the flip . . . enjoyed the fashion trip back in time! :-)
No kidding. That's scary. I was a baton twirler. yeah, I know. But once I was twirling a fire baton and caught my polyester uniform on fire. thank goodness I practiced stop, drop and roll :-)
congrats Une. I am off to watch a show before bedtime.
wtg une !!!!!!
flaming batons, wow!
they are pretty cool. The music was the Doors light my fire.
Night all ...
44 to go, and i'm pooped. long day. later, all
