as i understand it, pretty much everyone in the south and southwest has AC. that's not the case in the northeast. so, for some, it is worse.

Really Hursh? That is surprising. Temperatures in the northeast US climb over 90 often in the summer. I can't imagine anyone not having air conditioning.

I read an interesting article the other day that said the worst weather disaster in boston history was not (as expected) a blizzard or snow event, but a heatwave in the early 1900's where many died of the conditions in the tenements. all those long dresses, wool, etc....NO electricity, so no AC of any kind
except that home isn't home, only lived here for a year, no family, no support system, don't want to be here

You'll figure it out. What sort of accountability will there be for the mother since they are homeschooling? It's pretty variable in the U.S. depending on the state one is in and the parents' educational level.

I am not sure if Mum will know what the teacher is looking for as a learning outcome until I work with her
