nope - didn't get that either
We had tv in Iowa from1951 - but no cartoons.
I just googled it and Rootie was a hand puppet in the 50's
Or maybe my mother just didn't let me turn it on! She let me watch Captain Video, though.
first show I remember are Life of Riley and the Flying Doctor and a lot of test patterns with an indian head in middle
Kinda like Kukla fran and Ollie
out test patterns weren't nearly so interesting!
Or Shari Lewis and Lamb Chops
Romper Room . . . Lassie
BEtter quit for the day - typing is quitting altogether
Surely Shari Lewis was later than that?
Captain Kangaroo
Ed Sulivan came later - first time I say Shari Lewis

i really thought zooier, you know, like, a kid's birthday party is zooier than a normal day with no party
I tried that too hurshy, but it didn't work. I found the zo6 - lots of vowels!
i'm trying lots vowels, i guess just not in the right order yet

R.I.P Leonard Cohen.
((zzoozz)) I just read a wonderful, long article about him in the New Yorker and re-listened to his music last week
He was a great artist!
((Ruby)) Yes he was. I have albums and CDs of his. Might listen to some later.
I loved his latest album, such a way with words. That, combined with his letter to Marianne, made me think he knew he was near death, and that this would be his last album.
Agreed, Glantarell, same with Johnny Cash and his last song 'Hurt'
Need to go and hang my washing out. Happy babbling everyone!
Yes. We have lost a lot of great musicians this year. I guess that reflects the expansion of musical genres and markets in the 1960s, those early musicians who didn't die young are all reaching old age.
Bye Zoom
DID YOU KNOW THAT WHEN THE REAL mARIANNE WAS ON HER DEATHBED, THEY HAD REMAINED FRIENDS ALL THOSE YEARS, (sorry for caps), he visited her for one last time. Their's was a great romance!
Hello Glant
Hi Ruby
Hi Ruby
Didn't know that, nice to hear
He knew he was dying, had been sick for quite a while
I guessed as much
There's a joke (not so funny, now) that after the world is destroyed, there'll be two things left, cockroaches and Keith Richards
amazing he has stayed alive LOL
I think the drugs in his body have preserved him
or the alcohol....
For comfort these days, I've been listening to old rock and roll on YouTube: Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, Carole King, etc.
Great choices. I went to see Walter trout a couple of weeks ago (BluesBreakers, Canned Heat) and he was good. Also The Blues Band (Paul Jones from Manfred Mann). So much good music came form the 60s and 70s
Canned Heat is one of my faves. Do you like "The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys"?
I think my son is a musician from being raised in a house with great music!

Good morning
is it me or, for a little one, or is a bit tricky this morning?
It's tough as hell this AM
I'm finding it a bit tricky :)
It's truly hard
I can never work out the right approach when I struggle almost from the start. Ideas?
I try to get one word from each letter to start with, as a kind if 'warm up'. Then I start looking at a particular letter very closely and seeing how many words I can find for that letter. When I have done that I usually go and do something else for a while. When I come back I see words that I missed (often wonder HOWE I missed them). Usually end up looking at Lickety by the time I am 3/4s of the way through the puzzle.
That's about my approach, but I look at Lickety much earlier
Today I am looking at Lickety with 30 left....
That is my technique as well! Sadly the brain is struggling. Lickety never allowed until half way!
Today my monkeys are getting help from Morewords too...
If, for me, waiting til half way, I would never finish
Up to 30 found!

How is the grid today? (Trying to figure out if I can get even half way if I start at this time or not)
Hello Nef! How are you doing today? Welcome to the grid
The grid is challenging but much easier with Lickety's list
Nef, I also posted a story in profile if you need to read it.
I'm doing fine, just having to wear an old pair of glasses while I wait for new prescription glasses. Things are fuzzy by this time of night.
Thanks, Min, for the story. I really enjoy most of your stories, & they do help.
How are you doing this evening Min?
I am doing well Nef. Nice to have a long weekend. Had a lazy day doing NOTHING! Too bad the grid was not bigger
LOL! How often do you ever get a lazy day anymore? I have to insist on 1 if I ever expect to get a day off.
Lazy days are great! Only left house to goto the dog park
How is your dog (Jack, I think?) doing? How old is he now?
Was in my PJs util 3:00.Got dressed to goto dog park and then I got back into my PJs as soon as I got back from DP
Jack is doing well. he is 8 years old.He got heart murmur this year which is what I have been expecting him to get.
Oh, Man! I haven't spent a day in my jimmies for years! Sounds like fun!
Yeah, My friend has 2 of those King Charles spaniels & 1 of hers has a heart murmur also.
They seem to be fairly common in that breed, right?
jammies, not jimmies (that could be taken wrong, couldn't it?
Most Cavaliers get heart murmurs because of mitral valve syndrome most of them get. Can be treated w/medicine.
(love your Icon, BTW. Thanks)
And I can never remember that word (Cavaleirs) in the name of the dogs. Sorry
Actually,Nef, they are two DIFFERENT breeds. There's the King Charles Spaniel and there's Cav. King Charles Spaniel
My friend has a Cavalier King Charles spaniel; she takes them to cavalier play times 2 -4 times a month.
I went to one Cavalier metope once on Long Island. It was great, but unfortunately they are so far away I do not get to go to most of them. They also have meetups in NYC.
Oops! I meant to write "metope" NOT metope
meet up? Is that what they are called out there? (maybe that's what they are here also, I don't know)
Nef, let me know when you are ready to get FWs. I would love to get my fireworks with you tonite. I've been saving my last word since 12:26 today. I already know what it is
Min, I won't get there tonight. I'm aiming for 1/2 way; & am hoping that DH won't need more help for a bit while I work on the grid (he's interrupted me 3 times so far; he saw 1 of his doctor's & has a new bedtime procedure that he keeps asking about). I will be here to cheer you on though; so if you want FW with company, I am here.
I am finished!I have fireworks! la5/14 was my final word.
YAY, Minveryork!!! WTG!!!
grats, min!
YAY, Minveryork!!! WTG!!!

Thank you for being a witness to my fireworks Nef. Glad I am not alone.I'm also playing Candy Crush Soda on FB too

Hope to be able to stay for flip tonigt. Haven't done that in ages.I am available for clues if anybody still needs any
Hello 72 Temple Owl!How are you doing?Welcome to grid
Hello medusa! How are you doing today? Welcome to grid
LOL! I forgot it's Friday night! I was worried about a tired teacher who had to face some sullen teens tomorrow AM!
Hi Min. I am good thanks. Busy as they come though. Had some amazing news.
hi min and bye all!
happy babbling!
What's your goodness, medusa?
Goodbye 72 Temple Owl!Hope to see you here again soon
Good Bye TO!
Do tell medusa!
good news, that is
I am back in touch with my youngest daughter and,if all goes well, she will be living with me by Wednesday. She hates her dad and his girlfriend.
Ahh. How old is she medusa?
15. She is my double in character as well as looks when I was her age.
The really freaky thing is I named her Carrie after the song by Europe.
That is wonderful news and yes I know that song medusa.
Well the last time I saw my Carrie she was 1 year old. If you know the song then you will know how freaky that is!
(I don't, I'll have to find it& listen to it.
15 is such a hard age; I hope that all goes well with you & her.
It is a beautiful song Nef. I just love that band.
Thank you. I am sure it will.
Wow, medusa. That must have been sooooo hard. I am glad she will be right there in your life again. My heart is with you.
Thank you origami. Has been very hard. Did not see her sister either. Have been speaking to her for a while now. She is 18 now. It was their dad that would not let me have contact with them and would not let me leave with them. Long story.
The only thing that matters now is that she will be w/U.
It is. I have missed so much with her but will have so much more with her.
It is better late than never and she is still young so you 2 have years ahead of you to bond and build a relationship.
We have so many things planned to do
It's a beautiful song, medusa.. (I have to smile though at the lead singer's big hair & shoulder pads; and also his singing with both hands in his pockets!)
How long have they been gone?
Joey does have style. lol. Just adore that band. It is funny how the lyrics came true
since Carrie was 1. She is now 15
Oh, WOW! That is a LONG Time!!!
(re: the lead singer; he's beautiful!)
It is. The only thing that kept me going was my oldest daughter.
You think he is hot you should see the bassman!
I don't think he's hot; he's very pretty though.
They were a pretty band back then. Gotta love the 80's
Yes; I remember my nephew being a fan of a bunch of this e big hair pretty bands.
I so love the 80s! I grew up listening to 80s music. I know almost all lyrics from any song from the 1980s. Pretty sad
lol. I still love my rock music. Have met 3 of Europe. Great guys and a good laugh
But I have a question for you about your daughter: have you had any communication between the 2 of you during that time? And how long have you been communicating with her?
However, I don't remember all the lyrics to Carrie though
(I think my nephew liked BonJovi and Guns & Roses?
We have had contact on and off but not for long each time coz of her dad. We have been talking a few months now this time. That is when she can get away from him. She keeps running away from him
Thats where I can fill in Min. lol
Have seen both of them live too Nef. Bon Jovi was the first concert I ever went too. Guns n roses was after Slash
I was a fan of Def Leppard, another big hair band in 80s.
Love them too.
Love them too.
Love most of the 80's rock. Poison are good.
Saw them in concert. Was the best concert I've ever been to.The drummer has an interesting backstory.Lost an arm
Oh, yeah, I forgot he loved poison too (they had such strange band names back then...)
Def Leopard you mean?
Skidrow was another good band. The singer was the support for Guns N Roses when I saw them. He was amazing.
Yes medusa. I should be ashamed of myself!I do not even know how to spell favorite 80s band. Thanks 4 correction.
I did not even notice! If I am right the drummer lost his arm in a car crash. I have so much respect for the band coz they had his kit adjusted for him and stopped the tour until he could rejoin them. That's what you call dedication!
(I was working nights & raising babies back then. No time for Rock bands I guess)
Even raising my children there was always time for rock.
Googled them. It IS spelled Def Leppard. Not so ashamed.
I got it wrong! Der me! lol
When I did have the radio on, we were listening to baseball games since my son was a Twins Fan from the time he was 5 or so.
Bless.
Medusa; You're staying up all night tonight? Are you too wound up & excited to sleep tonight?
Sleep has been bad for a few nights now. It goes like this every so often. Good thing with having Carrie here is that I will have to get up so it should sort my sleep out
Is she still in school? If so, is she a good student?
She is still in school but I don't know what her grades are like. At the moment I am just trying to get her out of where she is.
okay. (I hope the changes go well for both of you.
Thank you. I think she will be more settled with school once she gets settled here.
true. Does she have to change schools? Did they live in your area or far away?
The fun part will be getting her birth certificate.
Why would that be hard? Your the mother for goodness sakes.
Her dad wont give it easily. She is the only hold he has on me.
Seems to me the mother should have more say there since the child came out of you.
I will probably have to send off for a new one
Not the way it works over here unfortunately. The thing that really makes me angry is that he wanted me to terminate her.
Not the way it works over here unfortunately. The thing that really makes me angry is that he wanted me to terminate her.
Isn't there a registers office there that you can get an official notarized copy of it? (That's what's done here)
I can. Will not cost much either.
Might be the easiest way to get it then.
I think it will. Will need it to sort out money
Am hoping the police here will be more understanding with her. They keep forcing her back with him that end.
Do you think it's expensive there? I think that it's less than $10,00 here; basically, it's the notary fee.
