Things are OK Nef. I got to visit my late sister's daughter who I hadn't seen in 40 years a few weeks ago. That was strangely interesting and awesome at the same time (she and her children are my last living family members).
I remember you were so excited about that! We'd talked just a day or so before you were going to do that!

Yes. It was very strange though. They are really, truly, hillbillies. It was an eye and heart-opening experience for me :-)

Not at all. I didn't know they lived out in the middle of nowhere in conditions that were very strange to me. I am serious when I say they were hillbillies.
What part of the country do they live in?
NO! My sister died when my niece was under 2 years old. My sister grew up in the SF Bay Area like me. there is no left over hippie stuff going on. I think they got there first dose of that when I showed up :-)

But, despite the three rusting fishin' boats out in front of their double-wide in the middle of nowhere, and their three lame dogs, and the non-functional pick-up truck out in front of the house with a bed full of crumpled beer cans, I wound up loving them all. She has a sullen daughter (17) and a gay son (23). I have family!

the metformin made him feel horrible. They've put him on novolin.. from Walmart. Pretty inexpensive and seems to be doing the trick... once in the morning and once in the evening. Now we're just working on tweaking things by figuring out what foods set it off..

No. We're doing pretty well and I'm a researchaholic..
But he's pretty new to trying to control it..so the doctor may want that at some point.
okay, get the book "the New Glucose Revolution" it's all about the Glycemic Index & I've found it very helpful
I may have that. i look up the glycemic index on things a LOT! That's one of the reasons I cook things al dente too :-)
It's written by a group of doctors & nutritionists & has been very helpful in keeping blood sugars under control
Cool.. If I don't have it, I'll make sure and get it.
It explains why certain foods may be high in carbs but are still recommended & why they are
