oh, right. I was stupid. I had planned to have my nails done the day after. Which meant driving for another hour, and yet another back home. Then groceries, and cooking dinner. Not a smart move.
so am paying a bit of a price for it all. But I did it, and I am still full of the heart academy stuff, happy and feeling I again know what it is all about in life... and what is a sore body compared to that? Also, my nails look beeee yooooouuuu teeeee fuuuul!

Any pain relief is good! And I'm thrilled with the Outback, but it has so many electronics that it had me laughing Thursday...I thought I was changing the radio station and it asked "what can I do for you?"

I said "I don't know" so it said it would give me channel 9. I was laughing so hard I almost had to pull over! Then I pushed that button again and told it I wanted channel 3, and got what I was after in the first place.

This car has so much new stuff, especially when the car I had was 20 years old, that I bring the manual in with me when I get home. I haven't figured out much except headlights, wipers and the "smart" cruise control - it actually will slow down and let you use the cruise control if the driver in front of you is erratic with speed, and I do love that.

the Corolla has an auto gear change thingy. at red lights it goes into a very slow idle, and picks up very quickly when you touch the accelerator. on hills, up and down, it auto adjusts, accelerating in the most economical way for up, auto dropping down through the gears to slow the car on a down-hill.
I was so amazed at the test drives, then they started showing us all the other stuff...geez, louise. I'll never learn or use it all, but it has heavy duty rubber mats for wet feet and dog feet in the back end, and will be easy to hose off the 'mats' since they are hard rubber.
We live in the California Sierra foothills, and I drive up and down hills from 500 feet to 4000 feet elevation often, and it has special handling in case of snow (which scares me!) so I won't be so frightened to drive in bad weather. Plus it is so easy to drive at night - my old Honda was horrid, I couldn't see. But I drove the new one home 55 miles, even freeway driving, no problem. So I feel a lot safer too

Really! Cuz the day I got it I had to drive in the dark, and we almost left it at the dealer to come back the next day, but I had hubby to follow, so I said I could do it. The mirrors auto dim, so I don't get blinded from behind, and it's up higher than a Civic. I got stuck with the time change and driving in the dark again, this new car is like having new eyes almost! My Honda was just too old I guess, cuz I actually don't panic if it gets dark before I get home - I never thought I would ever have another new car in my life...now I won't need one! This will last forever, if I don't crash it!
am so enjoying your enthusiasm! And am very happy for you that you feel safe and able to drive in the dark again.

i had a kinda lousy experience at the dealer today, but i'm still enthusiastic about getting a new, or maybe just new to me, car. my current car is a 2005 minivan that won't pass smog, so i'm driving a 1998 ford escort. let's just say, i don't feel very safe in it, or feel like my kids are very safe.

I'm glad Sprite, it is exciting after so many years to have a new 'toy' that I have to be very careful with, and not depend on all of the fancy electronics to keep me safe...still driving defensively!
i don't want a lease... dogs and kids and i drive my cars forever, or try to. also, i want something that'll tow a small travel trailer (like 3500lbs... so want a 5000lb tow capacity because i don't think pushing right up to the capacity on a smaller car is a good idea).

i'm in the los angeles area right now. have to move soon, might end up further south, might end up further north or east. (i live in my mom's house, and she died in august, so need to sell it, split the money with my sibling, and find my own place for me and the kids. and dogs, and cat. :) )

Mom was 90, she had a wonderful life, but brother got cut short by antibiotic resistant bacteria that ate his heart valve.

That evil bacteria seems to have come from the Galapagos Islands, but I will never know, now.
such a tragedy. Makes me so much aware of the fact every day of our life is a gift, and there is no telling what will happen.

the trouble is, in order to have a good understanding of public policy issues, which often have a lot of nuance and complexity, people need to go in depth. you know like, read a whole book. because *I* have read a book on something, i may feel confident about what i think a certain policy should be, but i do not necessarily feel equipped to make a convincing case for it in an online format, when it took much smarter people, who have a more thorough grasp of the subject, a whole book. so sometimes i don't know what to do other than say, "hey, you should read this book." which most people probably wouldn't do.
same goes for like, cocktail party chitchat.
Actually, all I meant was that if people discussed politics more, instead of shying away from it, there might be some good change.

for something as volatile as politics can be, it might be safer to have conversations out loud, rather than in real life. body language and facial expressions make a big difference.
I have read some interesting political discussion on line. It is all a matter of people just expressing their ideas, not trying to make others think the way they do.

Again, I think it is important for people to discuss politics. Whether or not it is a "safe" environment, whether or not people put forth the "correct" effort. I think it is NOT talking about politics, and shying away from those kinds of conversations, that makes people become apathetic and not involved in their government.
