Hi all
hi Liz
Hi Flosey - has the weather warmed up a bit?
it isn't that cold Liz, just unusual to have snow here - the ground is not frozen so it's quite slippery
That's really not very pleasant for you. I saw a photo of my friend's dog - they live in Vancouver. The dog was not impressed with the snow.
ah, some love romping in it
still need a 9 but crashing -- see you tomorrow
I guess he might too - this could've just been a photo for the fun of it!
bridge was cancelled - this island is quite hilly
Sleep well nan
If it's anything like the islands we passed on our cruise, it's beautiful.
Shame about the bridge though.
yes Liz, it is quite beautiful - especially with the now, it looks like Christmas should for me, being from Ontario
lol, with the SNOW
found the re's - good night
That's lovely and no doubt, very nostalgic for you.
I knew you meant snow :)

ouch. So sorry.
{{hugs}} and good morning my darling sprite. cooee glant. lovely to see you both. xoxox
*hugs rose* Hello my dear friend. How are you today?
doing goodly. did two loads of washing.. himself hung it out. other than that not much.
very good. Are you feeling a little less down as well?
sort of..zapping nerve in knee which isn't quite so painful as a result.
*hugs rose* Know that you are in my heart and prayers constantly, darling. Did my translated poem make any sense to you?
yes thanx sweetie. it was lovely and so deeply meaningful to me. xoxox
am so glad. Translating poetry is a... errrr... lady dog.
you did well... loll
prose is as good as poetry as far as i am concerned.
yeah, I knew beforehand that trying to keep the rhyme would be a very bad idea, lol.
am I a big party pooper if I say I wish it was january already? All the december stress is getting to me. Too busy, too much obligations, and such a stressful energy going around. While all I want is simple, simpler, simplest. A candle is at least as effective as a house full of blinking lights. A branch of spruce at least as lovely as a whole tree. Ugh.
i hear you sweetie.
and now I have to run off again, sigh. Tomorrow morning I will be working until 11 am. 7-11 morning shift. And Thursday I have to drive Tim to the dentist, he has broken a tooth. Then friday morning a nail customer. I will email you, sweetie... so sorry to be so inconsistent this week.
*hugs* and lots of love to you both. And rose... hold on, dear one. Be very very kind to yourself. Luvsyalots
xoxox darling sprite
Morning folk. Please may I have stats for the E in the last column and the lone N next to it?
ET 4
Still looking for that N
Oh that bloody volcano. Grrrr at me!
The N is a mans name
Mr Hawthorne comes from the other N...or is there another man's name?
Or Ozzie and Harriet's last name
Thank you!
Oh for goodness sake how did I not see that! Than you, Molly :-)
I knew it had to include the other same letter.
Thank*
The only Mr Hawthorne first name I know is nathaniel An that is not in the grid?
Short for that plus an s
Oh I see...I have that one I always try to remember those words that are only plurals lol
Thanks for clearing that up for me, Molly.
And no berating yourself for not seeing the lone N. Words that go up left, down and up right are very hard to see.
ooh Maurice Ravel's masterpiece is in the grid today!
naoi
Damn..sorry went off and made a cup of tea. Forgot to put the cursor back.
already had that one Zooz.....
It is too bad that piece of music will forever be associated with the movie 10 and Bo Derek running on the beach
http://tinyurl.com/jg8qkqk
1984 olympics, Torville & Dean ice skating to that music, amazing
Ha was just going to say that...morning all
much better image than boderek
still sends shivers up my spine watching them dance on ice
yep was a memorable moment
Thanks for lone N clue, famous admiral LOL - I had to google Ozzie & Harriet as I'd never heard of them...
Hello, Glantarell & Kallia :-)
Yes I remember Torville & Dean what an amazing skate figures they were!
hi zooz, is it grey anddamp on the island today?
1984 wow only seems like a couple of years ago...how time goes by!
Yep all dank here. I take it it is where you are too?
yes it is miserable day
It has just stopped raining in thos Welsh valley, but I think the mist is about to descend now LOL
I suppose we should not expect anything else for this time of the year lol
At least it isn't brrrrr freezing
Haven't even got my heating on
We are lucky here on the island though we only get grey days or rainy days here for 364 days of the year!
And there I was thinking you were virtually mediterranean...
We get 28 inches of water falling out of the sky every year here
LOL yeah right :-)
That is a lot of precipitation!
we get a mixture of both here
I hate it when we get gales...not keen on high winds.
that's because you are in between my Welsh wateriness and Zooz's mediterranean warmth and sunshine LOL
are there really 12 u's in this puzzle?
dunno, only found 3 so far
There are I am afraid to say, Kallia. Although I do have all of them now :-)
4here,but the others are very wel hidden
There are 8 UN words in there.

the first Ash Wednesday that comes up down here is a v. bad bushfire day

When you give up things for 40 days
The third CH 7/36 is plural of the word meaning anger; wrath; irritability.
first day of 6 weeks of abstinence
ch7.36 (the Ash Wednesday thing) is one of the Friday dishes for those of the jewish faith

awwww.....wut w cute widdle kiddy tat!
yes, she is quite darling
Nice, Hurshy! What a cutie. Will he be living in your hoodie permanently?
She. Sorry.
And... Hello!
no, she also likes to run about :)
hello :)
With any luck, I will be rescuing a kitty tonight and turning him over to a shelter/foster organization. A sweet tabby who is living outside a resturant at the mall.
i hope it goes smoothly!!
Paws crossed. He is so friendly. Comes right over and greets everyone. Some employees are feeding him, but no one wants to claim him.
aww, hope there's a happy ending in store, home for the holidays
That is my plan!
Wish I could take him, but my other male cat would beat him up.
i follow a rescue online, tinykittens.com - the woman who runs it also coordinates with a shelter in her area and they have been doing TNR with ferals and some of the ferals have become un-feral and gotten homes
usually 2 males can get along well, if introduced properly. it's 2 females that is the most trouble.
The one I'm working with does the same. I have two of my kitties from them. They get the non-feral ones vetted and out to fosters.
phantom: sentinel
I already have 3 cats. That's enough!
ah, yes.
we just returned to being a 3 cat household, after 2.75 years of being a 2 cat household.
Trying to avoid the stigma of "Crazy Cat Lady".
i embrace the crazy cat lady ness but yeah if you get too many - even with three - when you see bad poo or find vomit, the more you have, the harder it is to figure out who is sick!
So true. Plus we have a dog, so, the humans are vastly outnumbered in my house.
what kind of dog
She is a husky / border collie mix.
ooo, sounds pretty
She's beautiful and such a love. Angel dog.
judi - our puppers is a husky mix as well! (though we dont know what es mixed with - i suspect corgi...)
Can anyone clue the Bo5/18 Please ;-)
Name for German used in WW2
Thanks Deeha could not see that x
could I get a clue for un7 please?
Not consumed at dinnertime
ty!
hi all
Hello; not many around right now?
... evening Nef ... winter hit you yet ...
Oh, yeah. We got 8 inches of fluffy snow & also below zero temps. It's okay; we just need to get used to it
... ya beat us ... good for you ... we only got 5" and are only getting down to 14F ... good to hear someone is colder than I am
How about you?
... of course ours wasn't fluffy ... it was heart attack heavy wet stuff
I think Toronto usually is warmer than MN, isn't it?
... heart of winter ... yeah ... you're colder than Toronto ... but not Winnipeg ... which I'd never go to between October and May ... too cold
Oh My! I'm glad *I* didn't have to shovel your snow! (Not that I shovel our own snow anymore anyway; we've hired people to do that for us).
... It's my main exercise in winter ... but I cheat and shovel it two or three times during the snowfall so that I'm usually not shoveling too much
... but if it falls over night my wife will get her feet wet walking out to the street because I rarely do it before leaving for school
Good idea. BTW, I grew up about 150 miles southeast of Winnipeg in NW MN. So, I moved south for the nicer climate (to the Twin Cities - Mpls/St. Paul) & there really is a big difference being 350 miles south of there.
... it's crazy around here ... I'm down near the lake so we don't usually get that much snow any more ... but go 5 miles north to Highway 7 and they get twice the snow I get ...
... and I grew up "pur laine" in Montreal ... so I'm supposed to immune to cold and snow ... I'm not
I hear you! I live exactly 6 miles east of my one aunt; she might get rain (during the summer) & we'd get no rain. It seems the weather doesn't always run in straight lines
LOL! Isn't that the truth! My daughter works for the MN tourism department; & people call in June wondering if they can go cross country skiing here -- in June!
... yeah ... most of our snow comes from Kansas and Nebraska ... it sweeps across the border at Detroit and then splits in two ... one stream goes south of Lake Ontario and dumps all over Scrabbler ... the other bends north and dumps all over Crossy ... and the north shore of Lake Ontario gets half of what those two places get
... I lived with some guys from the Niagara Peninsula during my undergrad years and they told stories of people coming across the border with skis on their car tops in July
... but then I worked one summer near what is now called Thunderbay ... not that far from Duluth ... an on the 22nd of August while doing road work in the lee of the mountain there was two inches of snow on the ground in August ... it was gone by noon ... but the heaviest coat I had was a denim jacket and it was miserably cold for the first two hours of the day
Wow! We get a lot of weather from Alaska (those "Alberta Clippers") or from Montana (mostly in the summer I think). Sometimes you just have to wonder where some people get their ideas about where you live, right?
Oh, I've seen it snow in NW MN in May; but it never lasts
nice to read about a lot of people colder that I am
... Toronto used to get a really big dump in the first week of May about every five years but it hasn't happened recently ... mid April maybe but not later than that
Hi Eva. Vermont isn't cold? (or is that a not cold YET statement?)
... oh well ... but you've got ski hills ... and that means far too much snow for me
It was 4 the other morning (you have a really good memory Nef!), but the past couple of winters we haven't had the weeks of -20's that we used to get
we badly need a lot of snow this winter.
(I read you profile, Eva -- I don't remember much) ;-)
Isn't Thunder Bay there the bald eagles go in the summer?
... for the resort business or for the water in spring?
both
phew Nef. Know I don't feel so bad about myself
Think MN might be colder than here?
... haven't heard of that ... I'd think they'd go north in Alberta so that they can stay in the mountains (Rockies) ... Thunderbay is just rocks and trees and swamp ...
Now that we're having such a nice chat; I have to leave. :-(
... enjoy dinner ... my wife got held up a work so I must hold off
There are bald eagles all along the upper Mississippi River all year round. And we had at least 2 pair of them in our neighborhood this past summer; (there's a whole bunch of lakes within 5 miles of where I live, & sometimes we see them fishing in the lake about a block from our house.
... they'd probably go farther north than Thunderbay ... it's on Superior ... they'd go north to all the smaller lakes
how wonderful to see them so easily!
I need to take my daughter to Costco. She had a seizure (for no reason!) a few months ago & isn't allowed to drive until after Dec. 19th. So, I need to play taxi again (I think she's Christmas shopping)
Anyway, time to go. Happy Babbling! (I'll be back later to finish).
... the life of parent ... I don't miss not driving too much ... and I wouldn't like to drive into the city in order to save the day the way I used to
sonnet
oops
... it's a rule ... ya can't type words that I've already entered ... only words that I haven't entered
Need a nudge on the se 8,9 pls.

Well, I had a good lunch. Does that count?

Oh duh. Just occurred to me to turn it down....
He's not a very good boyfriend in that department. lol

Either! Ha!
oh wow.. then there is no hope for this relationship
He's always cold...I'm usually warm.

Hi babble buddies!
hello friends
Hi Bugs!!
any news on the job front origami?
Ty ddb and Bugsaw!
I don't like to do it much either, aeb
They called me to ask if they could contact my references. A good sign :D
very nice. I hope it goes well for you.
Thanks. I don't think they have contacted them yet, though. I would have heard.
crumbs. maybe they are just slow or someone hasn't got back to them yet
All of my references are retired, so they are probably out playing golf, quilting, volunteering or something.
that must be it
keep hoping
things are less than ideal where I am, so I am keeping up hope
Hi again. ori, I hope you have good news soon!
tabies
We should all be references for ori
Oops. Sorry
Oooh, yes. I will list you Ru :D
Thanks Nef. I am looking forward to hearing from them.
That would be a good idea, ru, except the only thing I know about ore is that she's nice, & a good cluer.
Every little bit helps Nef :-)
true; heck! Being a good cluer might be the perfect reference for an absent-minded professor! ;-)
Interviewer: so mr rururocks... may i call you mr rocks?
Exactly!
LOL! :-D
Mr. Rocks. I shall refer to you as that always!
Lol
I am imagining a reference list of babblers ... Mr. Rocks, Nef, Rubyfoo, Bugsaw, etc. My references sound a little sketchy.
Just a little bit sketchy? ;-) Sounds like members of a gang of some sort...
Or maybe a rap group :D
We will have to refer to ru as Mr. Rocks all of the time so we don't confuse him with The Rock...
Yeah, a rap group seems like the Babble group
We are nefarious characters :-)
with good vocabularies
Indeed!
and neck problems :D
(from looking at twisty words) (finishes joke)
OK, now got it! Pesky twisty words.
I agree too (but I had to think about it too)
it would help a lot if you guys had a warped sense of humor like me
ru, you don't think we have warped senses of humor? Maybe our warps are a bit different than yours?
waves to doren
Oh, Mr. Rocks. I am a legend regarding the warped sense of humor.
um.. hard to actually guess nef.. but I doubt your sense of humor would rival mine
I'm a very sick puppy :D
Guess who is going out on a dinner date soon?
Oooooh, a warped Mr. Rocks?
yes indeedy
i'm pretty excited
Cool Mr. Rocks. I will see you tomorrow.
Actually, if you consider that I worked as an RN for 45 years (& as an aide in a nursing home for 3 years before that); my sense of humor is pretty dark sometimes.... Nurses see some things that others don't
Signing out now. Got stuff to do. See you all soon.
see you about 12:30-1:00 ori..i'll text you
Sounds good ru.
Niters, origami! Keep your hopes up!
she is waaaay above my Pay grade if you know what I mean..but she is going out with me. I'm pretty stoked.
if she drinks diet coke at dinner though I'm going to be upset :D
So, where did you meet her, ru?
Cool Mr. Rock. Think high!
a friend introduced us
You have to give her a diet coke once in a while, dude.
no.. no.. nooo..
Poof.
bye ori
NICE!!! If your friend introduced you; your friend had to make you seem to be up to her level at least.
well.. not really, she told her I was a "nice" guy..
ru, how would you react if she drank some other soda; say, a 7 Up?
sorry nef.. that's an inside joke.. regarding another friend.. just some whacky humor for me
A "nice guy" is high praise from a friend.
well. I guess. we had a nice talk over coffee.. so she might be slightly interested.. she's really hard for me to read
at least you female friend didn't rate you as a 3 on a scale of 10 or something like that...
thank god for that. :D
Women don't do that usually; a "nice guy" is a compliment from a woman
well.. it feels good to reach out and give it a try again.. i'm not giving up on having a relationship
anyone in the US have suggestions about what kind of store i would go to in order to find christmas STICKERS ? like sheets or rolls of stickers for kids? i don't have time to get them delivered from buying on amz
that's good. Just don't rush things or get pushy.
tried dollar tree and big lots today, no luck
target has them
lots of them
I really don't even know how old you are; but my thinking is that women of a certain age have been around long enough to judge people fairly quickly
ahhh thanks ruru
What do you need them for hurshy?
kids
are you a teacher?
getting there...
i've been an aide and will be doing student teaching after the holidays.
Ahh! Congrats!
I'm 62 Nef
I knew you weren't a spring chicken, ru; just didn't know how old.
i'm more like a sprung chicken :D
LOL!
(wonders what women of a certain age is)
hello and good night.
It's a phrase used when the women are old enough to know better but still have the courage to go ahead & do something anyway
Hi Dorens; & good night Dorens
hi and bye doren
that sounds like a LOT of women I know
Well, maybe they are all about the same age then
Hi all!
hello Kaman; I don't believe I've met you before.
Ru, you're too young to give up trying, for sure!
Hi Nef, we have, I believe, but it's been a long while...I'm usually done by now, but I spent all day trying to figure out which computer to give hubby, ugh! He's still using an XP machine and I'm sick of trying to maintain an unsupported operating system
So I'm doing what he did last year, lol! Giving him something to save me grief!
:D kama.. thanks for that
help with BO 5/18 and 6/30 - my last two words
French mouth without a U
Hubs just turned 62, and we've only been married 5 1/2 years.
Well, I bought my hubby a computer for his birthday this past year; an HP Windows !0. He recently broke the touch screen feature
thnx ru
yw teach
Oh no, Nef! I wouldn't trust hubby with a touch screen - he tried a mechanical pencil on my phone over Thanksgiving! ::shudder:: Grabbed that thing out of his hand so quickly...and he's "huh? what?"
My DH has MS and forgets a lot lately and I thought the touch screen would help him. It didn't (he's almost 69)
DH refuses a 'smart' phone, and is happy with his flip phone. Fine with me - one less thing to fix - I'm the techie, he's more of a carpenter, fixer type! The forgetting is frightening, my DH has PD, so a touch screen is difficult for him. Movement disorders suck.
I'm shuddering with you just thinking about someone using a mechanical pencil on my iPhone!
Kamanjah, I am fascinated by your icon, can you tell me about it?
sandyloo, what is a chook?
I play violin and viola. I found this print on eBay and bought it. I used to dance too, but an injury put a stop to that, so I started playing more violin with the other musicians that accompanied the dance troupe. Kamanjah is the English version of an old Arabic/Egyptian word for violin.
aah that sounds interesting, My father (passed away now) played the violin -
Nef, surely you know that a chook is a chicken - I have 22 now oops sorry 21 , a snake got one the other day
Sandy, you sound like my next door neighbor! You have many of the same critters!
you aren't just stringing us along are you kama?
lol
a snake?
Thanks for the info, sandyloo. But no, I've never heard of a hook before (not an American term I guess)
chook nef is a chicken
My dad was a music teacher and wanted me to play violin. He played ok, but was a great pianist. Never would teach me piano, insisted that parents shouldn't be their kid's teacher for instruments. Don't understand that now - he taught me so much about science and nature!
yes we have dugites, tigers and brown snakes - all of which are very venemous and can kill you. Ous alpaca was bitten by one - it died - the stock can be bitten on the face while they are grazing
That was what Elvis was singing about nef..
HaHa, Ru! Not string anyone along, just have a lot of string and strings around this place ;)
brown snakes are awful.. ugh
they are very aggressive too
LOL,ru!
We worry about the rattlesnakes here in Calif
aren't they the most deadly snake on the planet Sandy?
rattlesnakes have nothing on brown snakes kama brown snakes have a much deadlier venom
I really hate all snakes - We have seen 5 already since the beginning of November when the sunny weather has set in. I don't know how deadly comparitively they are but I just run if I see one and yell for husband - we have a gun loaded with ratshot to shoot them - Husband won't let me touch it!!!
Isn't the term "chook" an insult when used by Australians?
not really - more a term of endearment - eg: she's an old chook! LOL
I would be paralyzed seeing a brown snake . .they are big too aren't they?
Interesting. A Google search on the word compared it to the use of moron.
go with the Australian here molly.. google isn't always right :D
dugites look a lot like a brown snake and they are the most common here . Down here in the south west I have seen some that are very big We also get the largest kangaroos down here
I don't want to find out about brown snakes then!
oh really?
I've only seen kangaroos in a zoo
it'd be awesome to see them in the wild
dugites sounds weird too
so what kind of snake nailed your chicken?
Google knows what Ash Wednesday is Ru. : D
They are a pest down here . lots of people have baby joeys as pets but when they become adults they are too aggresive Most lkely a dugite got the chook - you never see the ones that bite
LOL Molly
We see a family of Kangaroos every morning on our paddock , I like them they are fun to watch and sometimes the horses seem to have games with them
I'm all for horsing around with Roos
The most common cause of deaths among the chickens are the foxes which are an introduced species and reek havoc on our native animals
Our chookyard is like fort knox and we have to lock them up at night or they won't survive
jeez I bet sandy
I couldn't live around snakes all the time.. it would totally creep me out
I agree with you, ru.
Fortunately we dont see them often but this year seems to be different and I hate them too, but its one of the few disadvantages of living in paradise....serpents'''''
We have a lot of wild critters here, never quite know which one gets the chickens. Coyotes, foxes, raccoons, skunks, bobcats, mountain lions and the occasional bear. Rural life is interesting.
mr president once told us a horrible story about brown snakes
yeah kama.. you live in wild country .. that's for sure
You have a lot more dangerous animals than we do that is for sure.
i think Australia has more venomous creatures at the top of the list than anywhere else in the world
and great whites too.. it's amazing you guys thrive
i have to go finish the laundry.. be back later.. nice chat everyone
Hi all.
I know we have a lot of spiders that are not good as well - and I must admit there seem to more sharks - more people getting killed by them
Hi Jellen
hello all - we survive here in South Africa with black mambas - often found in residential areas. Green mambas fortunately prefer river side bush
Oh. I was supposed to do laundry tonight. :(
They sound pretty fierce, we don't have a lot of snakes in the built up suburbs
I don't like snakes at all!
We have cottonmouths and copperheads where I live.
Any clues for those ch7s please
Our tiger snakes live mostly wherethere is water We have a creek which runs aroud the property (lol)
ch 7 = the cereal spelled without the i?
Up here in Minnesota we don't have many poisonous critters; although I understand that now along the Mississippi River in the extreme SE corner of the state there have been rattle snakes found in recent years...
I dont really mind snakes - lots of respect so keep my distance until identified - but no kill - we always release them - there are hundreds out there anyway
ch7 disease caused by unclean drinking water, with different final letter
ch + vowel + season before Easter
got them thanks une
yw :-)
I have to go soon , we are having a round yard put in for the horses and the man is coming with his machine to spread the sand out
We are very excited about it -
I have 64 words left, and I am at a loss! :)
That's nice, Sandy!
I have 90 left lol
So will anyone be willing to throw out random clues for us? :D
what do you need - you can always live in hope
Just opened lickety.
