have you had a goo yesterday and night?
*hugs rose* Hello sweetie, how was your day?
out with june for coffee only, 3 loads of washing done, picked up the blessed CPAP machine, wrote shopping list(himself out doing it now) and packed two bags ready for tomorrow's sites to sell raffle tickets. *whew*
yesterday I had an early morning shift, was rather tired afterwards. But got a raving report on my way of doing the work from my trainer, so that was very nice to hear :D Feeling better today. How about you?
good job, honey!
nearly everything done for our trip, 70 days to go... very excited here.
me too!
and nice to see that your efforts are appreciated.
yeah it is. It is impossible to please them all, so it is good to know that in the cases people aren't happy, it isn't because of me doing something wrong.
good morning Sprite

Morning peeps! It's bright and sunny here today. May I have stats for any of the Ys - I seem to be Y blind...
Ye4 big monster in the mountains!
Arrrggh. Thanks.
Ye4 not the Noes but the ? That will give what makes bread rise!
Cheers Spel. I probably would have eventually got those with stats only - but thanks for the help :) It's funny how it's so easy to get grid blind - trying all the stupid combinations but leaving out the obvious
I want toity as in hoitytoity! But no...
Yeah, I tried that. I also tried the second half of that - the Y is not allowed
Late breakfast now as kettle has boiled!

Ah, Jaxx. Lovely to see you. How are you?
I'm back, a free word. I have had 15 months of cancer operations but am on the mend, thank you. And you and the family?
Soodle are you still here?
Very happy to hear that, Jaxx. May your recovery continue. Me & mine are all tip-top! My parents not so good. Dad now 89 & in good health physically, his memory is hone. Mother in bad health, physically & mentally.
Hey River :-)
(((Soodle))) I will be coming back to Ireland in June.
River - when will you be back here?
Hooray!!!! Another Babble meet! Whats your itinerary, River?
Sorry to hear about the parents. it puts a strain on you when you have to be in three places at once. I have been there so I know.
Start my vacation on June 14 with a week in Scotland and then 5 days in Ireland. I do not have the Ireland itinerary yet. Coming home on June 27.
Jaxx, happy to hear you are on the mend.
you are very lucky to still have both parents Soodle. Sorry they are failing. My Mom will be 89 in June. She is doing very well.
Oh, hopefully we can meet up again River! I really enjoyed your company last time.
Hi, River. Thank you. There were times when I thought it wasn't worth going on but here I am. I have one more op to 'tidy things up'
I enjoyed yours too....I will let you know as soon as I get it. I do know we fly into Dublin but fly out of Shannon.
And, just when much loved Babblers are on board, I must leave :-(. River, email or FB me your schedule. Jaxx, lovely to catch up. Rubes, speak to you soon. Hugs to all X
bye Soodle. I have get have to get back to work. No more goofing off!!! Have a great day everyone.

oh, you played prolific right?
You related to Benjamin?
that was FMitch's favorite, nan
I've played a fair bit of prolific. More recently I've only been playing the tournaments but I've dnped enough that I thought I'd take a break. Not related to Ben but am related to Mitch
Mostly I've been playing at serpentine lately
cool...yeah I'm not as big a fan of the dictionary on prolific...bit of an OSPD bigot I guess :)
haven't played serpentine for years
I do enjoy Babble though...as a contrast...fits into my life a bit better
it's a pretty small group of regulars these days
that's too bad
agreed. Babble is pretty fantastic. I think that most of the action is smartphone swiping these days.
There's some awful dictionaries on some of those games
play some scrabble on my phone...that's about it
haha wordament is hilariously weird. still fun though
hello friends
hey trif, how goes?
Does anyone here play Quote Puzzler? It's a bunch of intriguing word games. There are other babblers who play
just fine thank you.
no, haven't come across that one...is it for phone?

no, not at all. just play it on my laptop
yep. I like the format too - similar to serpentine but no limit on the number of players. there's usually 7-800 people playing

I don't do well in timed games. That's my problem in Quote puzzler

I like Scrabble as long as I can take my time

mortified to hear that a white rhino was poached in a French animal reserve and it's horn chainsawed off - really thought it was only an African problem
almost esoteric
sorry...in the board, not on the rhino
It appears the Chinese government is finally trying to crack down on it...
so hopefully we'll start to see a reduction
mool it is so awful here - we lose a rhino every day to poaching for their horns and some of them ore not even dead and left to die the most horrific death
the poachers are now using "silent" dart guns so they are not heard and the rhino dies from blood loss and suffocation by their own weight on their lungs :(
so horrific :-(
This is so hard to hear.
very sad. I was reading the other day about a reserve I think in Kenya which is now using thermal imaging to try and spot the poachers
When there's no more rhino, what will they kill next

hello...
pen?
not important anyway..
I have a non Babble question for anyone who is paying attention to chat. I was wondering if anyone knows where in the US, I wold be able to get a cd player that I can use my earphones with? no wi fi no Bluetooth no radio or mp3 just a cd player and a place to plug in the earphones? any ideas? I do have a portable cd player discman but that's it...
i am here....
i would suggest checking on eBay...
I didn't say hello to you before as I had intended to got distracted
Can you not get earphones that plug into the cd player that you already have?
i haven't used ebay for quite some time
no problem.... i was doing other things....
wvo have two cd player radio etc now that are both broken and we haven't gotten them fixed so i assume i have to get a new one.
wv the earphones are the easy part:)
had to get anything repaired these days...
one of the cd players i have is a 5 cd changer but they don't seem to last long
meant "hard"....
very true pen
so you really need to get a cd player that comes with earphones
i wouldn't know where to take them ot get them repaired but figured buying a new one if i can find one might be somewhat cheaper and easier
wv earphone jack
unfortunately it seems to be cheaper to get something new than to get the old thing repaired
wv yep :)
earphone jacks are generally one of two different sizes....smaller and larger... ;o) .... i think you can even get an attachment, perhaps at Radio Shack, that will convert one size to the other...
i use earphones with my discman now
so far it seems i have to get another disk man if i want to use earphones
they are the smaller size then....
how big a CD player are you looking for?
i have had an attachment to change the size and i can get one if need be
i don't need anything huge and would prefer it plays one cd not multiple
some of the boom boxes don't seem to have earphone jacks as often as they used to
then why isn't your disc man good enough for you?
it is but its not going to last forever and i would prefer a cd player have done both boom box and cd players
and with something like a disc man you never know how much longer they will be available
do you have something like a Best Buy near you?
battery life on them i snot long either
i have looked at Walmart lately and nothing including online
best buy is about a half hour from here or so
i just googled "portable CD players" and Walmart came up....they have a lot of disc man type players....
there are a lot of options at Best Buy....i checked by googling again....
i suggest you go to the store and talk to a clerk....if you don't see what you are looking for, ask the clerk to check if something else is available online at Best Buy....
pen yes I just checked best buy again too some possibilities but some are too expensive
hi
Hi...
pen yes portable cd players I can get but I want a cd player for home not portable unless I have to
brb
there appear to be quite a few reasonably priced...
this is manisha
manisha
pen gotta keep searching:)
first column greyed:)
there are a couple boom boxes that are around $35 or $40....i doubt you will find a cheaper player unless it is a disc man...
hi manisha...
doing you like me
pen yeah I am beginning to think a cd player by itself might not happen.
hi
manisha
manisha
not unless you get a disc man....boom boxes will have other stuff like FM radio....
I would find what you like and then search for it on eBay...
pen that's true
thanks pen but I am not going to use ebay
manisha
besides I cant as I cant access my email
manisha
sometimes I use amazon to shop for stuff MLFan its better than ebay I think
pen my biggest problem is that I use it frequently so the battery life doesn't last as long
hi lorena thanks:)
i use both....sometimes one is cheaper than the other...
if you have a boom box, you don't have to use batteries...can plug it in....
Hello :)
hi lorena...
true pen but whats the point if I don't use the other things on it ?
the point is....does it give you what you want?....and is the price reasonable for what you want?....you won't get penalized for not using all of the features...
or just buy another disc man....there are plenty of cheap ones out there...
pen yep they are cheap
but then you spend a lot on batteries...
exactly
see why I need a cd player?:) lol
so get a cheap boom box...i am done with this topic now.... ;o)
aww ty pen:D
help with the ra 5's pls?
I have the ra 5/12
rhymes with "Take a ch****.....buy a ticket"....
should have said lottery ticket...
need the 5/10
you asked for the 5/12....the 5/10 is an alt spelling for the indian princess....
sorry...i misunderstood...my fault...

phantom: balance
did everyone get the sa 5 the fur? or animal?
how isnt toastie a word
it is(spelled differently).
you can make bl7.36 though
both ways in fact
Love your profile biog, Lynn! All Babblers should be grateful to you :-)
hey Soodle, nice to see you again
Thank you Lynn for the Etui thing! Lol!
I was admiring this embroidery (doesn't look good at all in this picture), then I saw it was an etui so had to put it up here.
My Sarah, currently holidaying in Sydney, is sending me snapchats of herself wearing a hat with correspondence
damn auto correct..... a hat with corks dangling off it....
I wondered what on earth you were talking about!
She is really getting in touch with the real Australia (sarcastic font)
Is she doing the backpacker thing or just out here for a few weeks?
Get this ... she is there for 6 days!!
which just goes to show how fares have reduced! wow!
is she at least going to NZ as well?
2 full days to get there, 2 full days to get home & about 4 full days in Oz!
crazy
Meh! Youth is seriously wasted on the young!
Still - she made use of every minute there (dangly cork hat, petting kangaroos, cocktails at the Opera House) she is having a blast!
petting kangaroos!...should I tell you now about the female jogger who was pushed to the ground and badly clawed up by a kangaroo a month or so ago...or should I wait till Sarah is back on the plane?
Perhaps you should defer that for about /4
Perhaps you should defer that for about /4
24, hours, Lynn, if possible....
lol - it was a very rare event - everyone was gobsmacked
and I hope she sees a co5.12 (misspelt again!) although certainly she shouldn't cuddle one of those)
She DID get bitten by a spider or some sort of creepy-crawly. When I asked if it was poisonous, she said we'll have to wIt & see, won't we'?
'WAit'
she sounds as though she has her head screwed on and will seek med assist if it flares up. The red back and white tails are the ones to worry about - though antidotes readily available
hello all
hi Owl
hi lyn
Hey Owl :-)

oh the shame of it...my second last word is FMs favourite little creature
oh my, i didn't even see it!
i feel terrible that I missed her anniversary last year. I generally change my icon to one.
she has gone but I think quite a few of us will never forget her - she was very special
and you know, when i sent her a card when she was in hospital, she would send me one back!
Anyway a lovely cool morning here so no excuse in not getting to gym...see you later
ah yes, i still feel my tuesday workout. have fun@
I remember FM!
lyn, may I have help with that bl7/36 pls?
oh, she went to the gym. will keep looking
End the other bl7 with a man's neck wear
ty Molly
It is one of those Scot words most of us have never heard of.
what does gobsmacked mean
being smacked...by a gob
Flabbergasted
I wonder what flabber is
german I would guess
Not sure, but apparently it gets gasted
sounds painful
The technical definition is utterly astonished, astounded. It is a very dramatic word.
indeed
hyperbolic almost
still have 7 left, and I'm completely flabbergasted
I was watching Harry Potter and those kids talked about being gobsmacked, and I had no idea what they meant. And keep in mind, I spend several years living in England as a kid.
I think there are some terms that are local to certain parts of countries. For example, here in these united states, there are several was to refer to soft drinks, depending on what part of the country you are in.
Several ways
I say soda.
Right, I do too. We are from the same regional part of the country. Elsewhere they say tonic (New England) soda pop (out west) and Co-cola (for all soft drinks) down south.
And sub sandwiches...lots of variation on those too
I say subs. Unless we're talking about authentic hoagies from the Jersey shore area, and those are hoagies.
Philly is where hoagies are really from ;)
yes, true.
Also unique to the Philly/ Jersey shore lingo: fried dough (not funnel cakes), cheesesteak (not steak n cheese) and PIES (not pizza).
and macaroni and gravy
and let's (not) forget about scrapple
I thought that was Balmer, mac n gravy or fries n gravy
scrapple GROSS! My mom is from Philly and she was always cooking that disgusting thing.
great soft pretzels in philly too
who put the crap in scrapple?
Oh yes indeed, love the soft pretzels. Also Taylor Pork Roll.
and the Kielbasa is pretty good also
Here in Virginia, they pronounce it Kiel-bossy
heh
America has great cuisine
From Jumbalaya to Chowder and everything in between
Barbecue, shrimp n grits, pizza, tacos
Pit Beef, garlic fries
hush puppies
deep fried pickles
chili & cornbread
was just about to say chili
haaaaaaaaa are you hungry moo?
chicago dogs and italian beef
I wish, have some sort of flu thingy going
Italian sausage & peppers on a bun at the ball park
Buffalo wings
Fried oysters
Key lime pie
Sorry you are sick, moo. You must have a strong stomach.
well not nauseous fortunately
That's good
but harder to concentrate
this morning I asked my wife where the honey was and it was right in front of me
makes babbling a little tougher
Maybe you have a fever?
moderate one if any
Well I'm off to clean up the kitchen, only 151 left to find. Dammit.
have fun
ha! You too :) Feel better
I had the nauseous thing covered the other day. Hit me like a ton of bricks. I've been on crackers and broth ever since.
bleh, sorry to hear that
sorry to hear that Molly, hope you feel better soon
Oh thanks you two. I'm feeling much better now.
good to hear

Hi Tor
Lovely night here in southern Cal ..
Nice in northern CA also
hi folks - cold and snowy up north
I am tired of what passes for winter here :-) The first one we have really had in years.
Yeah, we're just now now getting back into some warmer weather.
We're kinda wimpy around here :-)
spend some time up here and no one could ever call you wimpy
the windchill makes it feel like -19F here right now
NO THANK YOU! I was raised in the SF Bay Area. anything outside of 60F to 80F is too cold or hot for me. Wish I still lived there!
Off to play with the wild ones. Back in a bit.

oh sorry harp had stepped away from computer. Where you going to be ?
bicycling in Capetown, Garden Route and Little Karoo. Then a photo safari in ZuluNatal, near St. Lucia. And, of course Victoria Falls!
Do you think I will need heavy rain gear, or just something light?
hmmm Cape Town is very dry at the moment they have winter rain if they lucky. Drought conditions there at present. Karoo very hot. St Lucia apparantly gorgeous have had plenty of rain. So a good mix but dont think "heavy" rain gear will be necessary - but then again this is Africa - anything can happen weather wise !
techically, it will be fall, not winter. but you know how that goes! I'm trying to pack light as I tend to overdo it!
I'm a little worried about cycling in hot weather after the winter we've had. I'll be miserable for the first few days, I'm sure.
Still can get very hot in KZN until well into April.
Cape Town at this time of the year should be quite mild
the little details amaze me--someone just told me to keep my mouth closed, and not lick my lips at Victoria Falls. Who knew?
Not been to Vic Falls - wonder why - spray ?
yes, evidently there is a parasite in the spray?
hmmm live and learn :)
schistosomiasis
never heard of that before with regard to Vic Falls
in fact never heard of it at all
I just learned about it from a few cousins who have gone. It must not be a big issue.
nbt nbs at least
