Thanks, Jess
hello everyone
Hi nan

two grids in a row close to having aloha but not quite
hi liz -- everything still ok with you?
Yes - much better today. We just arrived home this morning. We were actually in Melbourne for a wedding and had no idea how our house was - feared the worst, especially after our flight was cancelled on Thursday but actually everything was OK.
The park behind our house is now a river!
:O
We were so lucky - there was loads of flooding around here.
We could see so much of the flooding as we flew in this morning.
that must have been quite an experience
The stress of not knowing was the worst. But compared to others we were very lucky.
Clues are up
phantom: pshaw
Thanks, Lickety
thanks Lickety
and crash -- good night everyone

Thanks, Hurshy - I'd missed 4 of them!
No - 2 of them. 2 are phantoms.

Only 3 I think.
2 al's, ps5, se5, sh6, sh5
And an sa 4
technically the ps is greek but i associate it with hebrew
Wasn't counting the ps one.
which sa4 do you mean? i have one that says it is a persian poet
Yes - well I guess that technically that should be ts - so it doesn't count.
My mistake!
how nice to have sn4 and sl6 together - lots of families headed to tahoe this week too...
Still cold over there then.

oh wow! Must be so nice to feel you are cold.
hurry back, peach :)
awww that's so good darling.
did the children have a good time in church?
given the amount of paint, bits of paper, dominoes, skittles, balls spread everywhere, i opine that they did. and so did i.
hehehe good for you! I love it, the way you are involved in all those church activities. You must be such an inspirational force there.
i hope so dear. and every time i go into the hospital, the big guy seems to put me in a room with either a fellow christian or someone who needs support.
:) that is great. As long as He remembers to put you in with someone supportive when you need that
he does dear. the times when i need support, the pastoral care worker calls on me, and no-one else.
ah, that is wonderful. *gives the big guy a huge thumbs-up*
*grins*
I will attend summer school of the heart academy this summer and I am going to teach one period. Theme is 'Reality and Illusion'. Am already having all kinds of ideas! Gonna write a story, followed by a guided fantasy/visualisation, and round it up with painting a (very real) rock.
spluid - when you spill something fluid and it splatters all over the place
what about the ads for clothing? showing those ultra-thin models? reality is the majority of the population ARE NOT THIN.

No need to be sorry, Marigold. At least I now knnow there is a HA6 :-)
And now have found a HA 6/24! Thanks to you :-)
Good morning.
((zzoozz)) I haven't seen you in ages!!
((Ruby)) How are you keeping?
Have been her..just at different times. And not been talking much lol
Here*
Spring is here -- more flowers every day and no more frost.
I come in stealthily, too....
Yes it has arrived here too! It has been rather nice of late. Hope it will last!
Glad you are not getting any more frosts. It really does make the bones cold.
IIt looks like rain today but the garden is thirsty
So I don't mind
How are your two bodyguards doing?
Rufie becomes more fierce and also more affectionate every day. He's even started doing "puppy things", funny since he's 5.
Oh bless him. Not sure about the fierce bit though..As long as it is not directed at you or genral public. Intruders is okay though to do it too though :-)
Morning peeps! I still got nothin' for the upper left O and the bottom E - may I have stats please?
Hello, Matty. Not long started myself And have nothing for the Top O and have only just started on the first S.
ol6/27
el6/24
Hello Matty and Ursh. I just started, too, and only have 18 words.
Thank you for the stats, Ursh.
i got frustrated with that top O - so listed early still got 62 left
Ah so it is not an everyday word then.
Thanks - looking now :)
Rufe is extraordinary with me and anybody I say is OK. Otherwise, I don't know what he'd do if somebody hitt me
Well I hope it never comes to that, Ruby.
He makes me feel safe, alone in this big house
Found an EL 6/24 for a bottom E
Can you give me a nudge, zoom?
EL + vowel + consonant + who are you? show me some **
Not sure if that helps you.
Working...
And it does - thank you!
Will you be getting your gardener to help you this year, Ruby?
Finally found the OL 6/27 Thank you, Ursh!
If you want A clue, Matty, just let me know.
There are 222 words today but I hate to think how many words and non-words we actually type in by the time we have finished lol
There are plenty of non-words in this one
Yep I thinnk I have found most of those lol
Well I am down to 59 words to find. Better go and cut my hair. Happy babbling everyone!
Enable really bugs me. If you look up that el6 it refers to an 8 word with the Latin ending. Does Enable accept that? Hell no.
It wouldn't be legit in this grid, because you would have to use the E twice, but I just wanted to see if it was accepted.
Hello, I'm back. Lunch was delivered and the dopey boy who wlks the dogs on the weekends was here
He speaks less than my dogs!
Dopey boy...ha ha...I have a friend whose response when you tell her about some stupid thing a man did is "Boys are dopey"
Hahah and this kid's name is Idou, a synonym for idiot! I had to show himhow to use a rake -- and he's about 17!
It's chilly today, less than 50, and he arrived on his scooter i a t-shirt
It is chilly here today too. I am really sick of this retro winter crap in Spring.
Good morning all.
Me, too. I wouldn't mind a little rain because the garden is so dry but it's just cold and grey
hello Sukee
Hi Ruby. Cold and grey here too. 2C right now.
We had a solid day of rain yesterday, so all my outdoor plants are soaked and happy
good morning all. help pls with the corner O and the corner L
Corner o...Spanish cheer + fish appendage
ty Molly.
Ty Molly
we had rain all day yesterday too and today looks like it will be gray and gloomy with some rain.
On top of the weather, our buses are on strike on Monday.
That sounds like a good excuse for staying in bed
I had to reschedule a hospital test because it costs too much to take a cab to the hospital
Yes those corner Ls are driving me mad.
Soup spoon, of sorts.
Soup servers
I'm sorry; I shouldn't make light of it
Ty Matty and Molly
ladle
Well, it's not such an important test, just an update.
aarghh. I'll disapper now, back into my web
That's the one, Ruby!
Of I just do not believe i could not see those two words!! I am so crap at this game lol
Many thanks.
May I have stats for the 8s?
I missed them too zoo
Man, you people are WAY too hard on yourselves.
sn8/65 and wh8/75
SN 8/65
Compound word.
WH 8/75
Compound word too.
Sorry, Molly, Just saw your stat post.
OK, looking :)
And you can get one from doing the other. Hahaha
LOL
Scrabs loves SN 8/65
Thank you - got them both now :)
I prefer indoor sports in the winter. 12 ounce curls by the fireplace.
So, does SN 8 start with the white precipitation?
YEs, Sukee
Sounds nice, Molly.
Good idea Molly.
<-- fave indoor sport: babble by the fire
Be back in a flash, breakfast time
Although it was such a (yes Zoom) mild winter that we did not have a fire once.
Lucky you. Have had heating on for ages now!
It is a hard sport, Ruby, but I am happy to keep doing this sport :-)
Happy Birthday to all the April Fools
You're kidding, right? LOL
Who is kidding?
My friend was born on April fools day. Boy did he get a ribbing at school on his Birthday poor lad.
I was married to an April Fool, once upon a time.
I am lucky as I am a fool everyday so I am used to it LOL
May I have any stat for the two 'i' pease?
Please even.
id4 and 5
id4 adjective for me
*Waits for Zoom to wail about how he should have seen them
Oh my goodness!! How did I miss those!!!!
LOL
Must be something about that ending for me not seeing those types of words today.
You and me both
See you later, kids
Take care Ruby.
Toodle pips, Ruby!
Finally got the SN 8
Nice one!
The difficulty in this game is how the words are sometimes laid out in the grid. The soup server words are all up-down, which is not how our brains are used to reading
Then you get all used to looking for words that way and you can miss one that is spelled out left to right across the bottom of the grid. : D
For sure :)
Well after you said that I tried mosel just in case :-)
And visa-versa of course.
Me too!
still need 10 Ws
: D We had one the other day that was spelled out across the bottom and I didn't see it for a while because I was so busy reading right to left and upside down
Yes that was on the 27th and the word was' Other' :-)
Zoom, I worry that you have such things committed to memory
Nope not to memory. I too remember there was a word across the bottom so did a quick check on the archives to see :-)
Am I missing something really obvious with the la6/33?
To have as much as possible on ones legs..like a child for instance.
Do not forget to plural :-)
I would not consider that an "obvious" word. It's actually kind of a clunky word.
OK, looking :)
OK, should have seen that. Forgot about that suffix. Thanks!
I was stuck on the idea there was going to be a ph in there
And why is the hi6 version of that word not allowed. If you can have a la6 full of a toddler, you can certainly have a hi6 of him, if you are carrying him
LOL
Ty Molly, that finally gave me the word :)
I still wonder why the acronym, AW 4& 5 is allowed.
If anyone is a Stephen King fan, the trailer for the new movie based on his novel "It" is extremely creepy.
I think I will pass on that :)
I've seen it - it looks good...and very creepy
I'm quite the King fan
Must go look for the trailer.
No sign of the Losers' Club as adults though. There is one bit of the book that was left out of the TV adaptation and hopefully will be left out of the new movie...
The sex bit? I thought that was a very cheap shot from King.
And I am a big fan.
Yeah - it was just wrong. Really discordant.
It's a shame because the rest of the book is so good
Finally, nbt
Taking a break, take care all.
I have read a lot of fan reaction to that story and that part seems universally disliked.
Just watched the trailer. Looks like it is a good film to watch!
My son is hoping the new version deals more with the smoke lodge and The Ritual of Chud.
I could see that
He has a point, in that it is a big part of the story. Where "It" came from and how to defeat it.
Also, with the turtle, it ties it in to the Dark Tower
The TV version was limited by time and what they could get away with on TV.
So I take it that I should read the book before seeing the film then?
Indeed. With a pretty crap spide special effect. But heh, it was the 80s
I'm a little miffed that this film version will be set in the 80's as far as when the kids were young. But hey, they are trying to attract a different age group I guess.
So they're doing the 'thirty year ago' from the present day, rather than from the 80s...like if they remade Back to the Future for now!
Yeah, and parts of the story don't seem to work for that. 80's kids didn't sail boats made of newspaper down the rain swollen street. In the 80's there were no drug stores like the one Eddie got his inhaler from. And other such things that just don't transfer up thirty years.

Happy babbling everyone!
Job well done, young man. Go forth and conquer your day. : D

hi ru...
i am in and out...stopped at 35 for now....playing at wordsplay...
i'm stuck at 58
i went around the board and started entering nonsense words....it paid off... ;o)
i'm not quite awake yet though
my internet connection is wonky....so if i disappear it's not because i wanted to...well, probably not... ;o)
well that's ok..i'm used to rejection this week :D
bummer....*pats ru on the shoulder*....
no sensible person would reject you, ru.
well.. she did
Well dust yourself off and cock a snoot. Whatever that is.
well.. there's a funny saying
*staying away from that one*.... :o|
(me too..i'll get in trouble with the censors around here)
(is glad Molly didn't jump in on that one :D
It turns out to be that thumb on nose, waggling fingers gesture of contempt. And apparently should be cock a snook, though I hadn't met that before today!
well.. that sounds cute helens.. but I better keep my lips shut here :D
Thought to indicate a cock's comb - though why we should think waggling it meant anything more (on the part of the cock) than that he is moving his head!
I always learn so much in this chat room, one way or another!
well.. i'll recover and be ok thanks though
AT least I provided a slight diversion of your attention!
yeah.. thanks.. I feel like i'm a nice guy and I have some nice qualities.. it just wasn't right for her... we had a great time together on our last date and then wham
okey dokey.. got to get to work today.. bye for now
bye ru...
i am heading out, too....gotta work on taxes today....ugh...bye all....
*Hiding in the corner, laughing my ass off over "cock a snoot"
Is that the male version of the woman thing that goes "the only way she knows how to get over one man is to get under another one"?
belated thank you Molly for the la words. I went to the market. And the sun is out!!!
I found the wh8. stats for the other 8 pls

glan what is the phonetic pronunciation of where you live
well doen Nna
My old house name which is my ID here?
or the town I live in, which is really fun?
is that not pronounced the way it looks? -- meant the name of the town
Ystrad Mynach - Uh-strad Muh-na-ch (as in start of choir)
interesting -- the problem with gaelic in all it's forms -- never pronounced the way it looks
House name is not quite how it looks a double ll is a letter of its own in the Welsh alphabet, and I don;t have an English equivalent phonetic, but you can make the sound easily - to pronounce ll you put your tongue to the roof of your mouth, right upo to and touching your top teeth and then you kins of blow and a llll sound comes out LOL
It wouldn't ever work for me
Welsh is incredibly consistent. Once you can pronounce each of the 28 letters, it is always pronounced the same way - except for Y, which is pronounced either 'i' as in 'if' or uh, depends where in the word it is.
So, Aberystwyth is pronouinced Aber - ust - with
do you speak any of the irish or scots?
None whatsoever, a complete mystery - how can Siobhan be pronounced shevaawn?
but a long time ago they were the same language, alomng with Cornish and Breton. I think the schism happened when people strated writing them down, perhaps 1200 years ahgo?
and slainte maithe and slanj ee vah
definitely impenetrable LOL
The only language I can pronounce is Hebrew. And thzt has some weird sounds
sh 6/24, pls
many welsh names here. but mostly anglicized. llanarch, llanfair, cynwyd
Welsh has a number of letters which are double letters, like ff, ll, rh but also confuses English speakers because f is pronounced as v, but if you want the f sound, you put ff...
Llanfair means something very close to 'the parish of (saint) Mary
It is relaly common in Wales
Llanarch means something like the parish of the gift/behest
I can't quite put my fonger on Cynwyd, but have seen the word. No doubt I'll remember tomorrow
bala cynwyd
tredyffrin
bryn mawr
There are a couple of Welsh towns called Cynwyd. Cyn means before... and now I have to go and get my placenames book out LOL
gwynedd, north wales, uwchlyn
bryn mawr is easy - big hill
hahaha
tredyffrin also easy - valley town
uwchlyn - upper lake
hmbgrwfrys...-hamburger with fries
*glad i don't have to take the welsh quiz*....
sh 6/24, pls
making me hungry!
Bala is the name of a lake in north Wales, which contains a species of fish which is almost prehistoric and which dpoesn't exist anywhere else in the world apparently
love that one Ru - how about pysgod a 'sglodion?
bryn is big?
also bryn athen
bryn is hill, mawr (or sometime fawr) is big
Bryn Mawr?
Athan is the name of a saint
so bryn athen is probabaly Athan's hill
in the grid, I see welsh words as well as english and it's really annoying soemtimes - today there is llaw (hand as well as wales
i see french words all the time.. ;o)
athyn, my error
moi aussi
athyn isn't a modern welsh word
so it still probably a corruption of Athan
There are parts of Pennsylvania where the dialect is directly descended form Welsh - many miners emigrated there in the 1800s
Hi kids.
we have weird phrases in English, like 'over by there', 'come by here'
hi Scrabs, not out hiking in the woods
yes, the main line was created by the welsh ironic if miners created what is now some of the most excludive real estate here.
hi scrabbler.
Cold, rainy, foggy. So I did some art work, finished the NYT crossword puzzle, and am back here. I lurked earlier and found 125.
very ironmic, many left Wales because of famine caused by 2 years of crop failure as a result of Krakatoa eruption
You did today's Times puzzle. Mr. Bich said was difficult
I did not find it difficult. I usually spend 2-3 days working on it and I finished it in several hours.
Mr. Bich said it took him 18 minutes
Many of those who left Wales at that time walked to Liverpool, often with an animal or two and just the clotehs they stood up in, then waited in Liverpool for up to a month to sail to the US. There's a whole bunch who ended up in Ohia, from mid Wales
do you ever get clues?
I never do Saturday's
I once stayed in Willsboro, Pennsylvania, at a bed & breakfast which was also a sheep farm, and across the road was an old Welsh cemetery.
I love the NYT weekend cross word puzzle--highlight of my week--such a brain challenge!
i am a subscriber to the NYT puzzles...
sp 7/36, pls
Tomorrow is a crostic, as well as a regular puzzle
I visited Wisconsin a few years ag, adn the scenery is very similar to that of Wales. My freids then took me to Wales, WI....
we get them one week behind.
Bichon, did you get the sh6? I have it now.
i doubt north wales looks much like any part o f wales
no peach, please clue it for me
Nearby me, Glantarell, are 2 towns, Wales and South Wales.
North Wales doesn't look like Wales WI, but Carmarthenshire looks just the same
jewish word for hello
sh 6 peace in Hebrew?
Whereabouts are you Scrab?
i did not know that merion and haverford were also welsh
it is Hebrew...meaning hello or farewell
ty ru and Glant
Meirion is a man's name

Haverfordwest is a town in Pembrokeshire, Wales
Did that help, bichon?
the sun is trying to come out but it's still snowing...weird day....snowing most of the time, but not much of any accumulation....
sunny and nice here today for once

I don't have sp7-36 yet, will look.
But the Welsh name is Hwylffordd, which means 'sail road' or 'goodbye road' or 'fun road' - given it's location I think probably goodbye road as it is one of the most westerly places in Briatin
and is it pronounced like the local version is spelled?
2 x sp7/36, 2nd is sp4 to make yarn then just go elft form there
hoo-will - forth (hwylfordd)
TY, Glant
and now I must depart, half way through...
haverford is much easier!
i am done....:o)
you mean lvnw
bye glan ty for the cultural enlightenment
some odd words in this one...
those must be the 33 i'm missing pen :D
Woohoo penquis!
hello all just starting
ty!
Hi MLFAN
hi scrab
bichon, did you get the 7-36? I have it now.
gapeach?
Yes, MILFAN?
can you clue the sp 7 you just found please?
If you have the 1st sp7, the 2nd is to just change the last letter to another vowel.
Did that help?
I don't have either of them
the longest sp word I have at the moment is sp 6/33
there are two sp 7/36 words...
yes i think we all gathered that from the conversation :)
There is an exception to every r***.
first six letters are the same....
ty scrab
got them ty
ty scrabs
OK the next word is to make yarn sp4....then the 1st sp7 is use the sp4 and go left from there....the 2nd sp7 is like the the first except the last letter is a different vowel
gapeach I have both sp 7's
Good.
OL 6 clue please?
a southern university nickname: "*** Miss" + fish appendage
ty hurshy
speaking of fish, sa6/7!
lol I just found those words hurshy:)
And sometimes people clue when no clues are asked for.
*looking*
sp 7/36, both of them, pls
Found 'em.
Clued below, bichon.
do you dislike that Molly, or are you just mentioning?
Scrabs, don't understand the clue
yes that does happen I think its called a haibt
I'm just not sure why people clue when no clue was asked for.
What is a haibt?
I don't understand either, say it's human nature
i do it for two reasons - 1) i'm excited about the word because i like it and i think it's a nice word that we don't often get in the grid, or 2) it's a very weird one that I'm sure a lot of people would want a clue for anyway.
bichon first part is you **** when you make something go in a circular motion.. and then ends with spat*** for the second one change the last vowel
habit
typo
agreed hrshy
hurshy
yes, it's just a little halibut i have
Perhaps they are just trying to be helpful. There is always the option to turn off the chat. Hello Gape... Lovely to see yo :-) how are you?
fan, I am confused by your clue
when you are on a the game show Wheel of Fortune you **** the wheel
but if i know someone is around who really hates it, then i would try to refrain
Hi there, Soodle> Gosh, I haven't seen you for a long time....I hope all is well with you and yours. Blessings
when you are stirring something like frosting or batter you use a spat*** to stir it
Okay Hursh, I get it. It's like the flip where people are cluing words because they found them first.
well the flip is more calling than full-on cluing, but, yeah
got it, ty fan
it's one reason i don't like the flip...
hurshy but those people can turn off the chat
Everything here top of the pops, Gape!! How are you doing?
that was one reason I loved the flip
I'm sure people are just trying to be helpful. And I am aware of how to turn off the chat. But thanks for your helpful comment.
The flip is maniacal insanity.
helpful is correct and when I was at flip finding words in the beginning such as a 7 is exciting against others doing the same thing at the same time sometimes
yes, and if trolls come around the rest of us CAN turn off the chat. but i prefer to be thoughtful than insist on my rights, whenever i can reasonably do so.
Some people like getting clues fed to them. Others like to work the grid on their own. No worries, everyone can play the way they want to.
Just getting older, dear one. Have many physical issues but am hanging on. LOL
scrab and I love it:)
corner L stats please?
you and me both peach
la5/12 and pl
The flip is 1300 my time so I have only stayed up a few times to observe it, and observe it what I do. It is like a 100 meter race. All out running. It is fascinating to observe.
la5/12= large soup dispenser
agreed scrab it is at 1am for me
It's great in Europe. Late morning
Scrabs, it is getting near the time when we lost our little ones....I always think of you. Hope all is well now....I still have my little one's picture in my phone.
and then there are those times when someone asks stats and someone clues the stats and then someone thinks the stats are a request for a clue and gives a clue, lol
Gapeach - it makes me happy to see you & know you are well :-) Flip time here is 6.00 am & i usually lurk,.
May 10th, right, peach? I have trouble remembering the dates for all of my bunnies.
very common hurshy
scrabbler, i believe 1300 is one in the afternoon, 0100 is one in the morning.
but like I said before it is also a habit for some
Yes, Scrabbler, May 10th.
That's what I meant, hurshy. Thanks for the correction.
ty scrab I had to find your clue
bbl
nbt..is the sn8 a compound word?
now why does the mention of military time suddenly give me the desire to watch the Brady Bunch? how odd.
peach, I have bunnies # 12 and 13 now, Gulliver and Remy.
hurshy yes that is odd lol
MLF....yes, sn 8 is a compound word...
My big news is that my oft-referred to offspring - Son of Soodle (Paul), has gone & got engaged!
ty pen does it start with the winter white stuff?
Do you like his SO, Soodle?
WTG Soodle's son. Grandchildren will be coming
Well, obviously, the woman who deserves my son hasn't been born yet, Scrabbs, but Kerrie comes close. She is a lovely girl, pretty, chatty, & totally nuts about Paul, so.... I'm content. :-)

morning Liz - hope you haven't been effected by all the rain up there - terrible
Park at the back of our house was flooded but thankfully our house is fine. It was a big worry because we were in Melbourne for a wedding. Our flight home on Thursday was cancelled - got back yesterday, not knowing what to expect. We were very lucky compared to many people.
glad it worked out OK for you
Thanks
ty lyn
Liz...it wasn't your husbands sons wedding was it?
No - it was his ex-wife's brother. We're all one big happy family :)
well you all seem extremely nice so I am not surprised
Aw thanks. I think I'm very lucky to have an Australian "family". I was introduced as "***'s aunt - with no blood relationship."
another word I don't even understand the def of..the sp6.39
where was the wedding?
Brighton Savoy.
sa7/52 anybody?
nice - just down the road from me
Not sure how to clue it - it ends in the high letter tile. The ending sounds like a colour.
It was a lovely venue but there was so much noise from the traffic all night - couldn't sleep at all.
Brighton is a lovely area. Went for a walk to see the beach huts and also went into St Kilda and walked there.
