We finally got some rain after the prolonged drought, so by the time my friends arrive in June, the shambly garden should be beautiul again
Right now there are tulips, allyssum, geraniums allium, wisteria, cherry quince,"sorbier" and other fruit tree blossoms and, soon iris buddleia and roses and maybe even water lilies

Hallo rubyfoo! I haven't played in a long time and it's nice to see the familiar faces here.
Oh, just seen how long a gap there is in the times of the messages.
Hi Sally and Ruby
Hi!
I haven't seen you here in a long time, Sally. Are you doing well?
It's taking time to get back into this after a long break.
I just finished reading, "H is for Hawk", so my head is in England right now.
I'm fine. It was just that i tended to use my ipad rather than my laptop and it wasn't so easy. Now I have a Bluetooth keyboard for it so I'm off!
A Bluetooth keyboard--wow.
My head is in England, but then so is the rest of me...
Haha. I loved that book so much. Have you read it?
It was very cheap but it's so much easier for proper typing. Also the grid doesn't vanish every time I add a word.
No, not read the book.
I am glad it works and that you are back.
:-)
The book is nonfiction and about a young woman that trains a goshawk as she deals with grief after her father dies. The writing is beautiful. She takes the hawk to the English countryside. I love nature and birds so I loved the book.
Who is the author?
Helen McDonald or MacDonald
I'll look it up.
Must check something. Be back soon. I'm not doing very well, I only have 27 words so far!
I have 63 and am stuck.
64 and stuck too Scrabb LOL LOL
Too many vowels.
Hello, scrabs. I read that book when it came out, but can't remember the name.
... the volcanic letters are there twelve times but the Sicilian mountain isn't ....

trust a non beer drinker :D
me too... I can't drink beer
cani get a reclue for he 7?
I don't like the taste of it either
i clued it at 9:14...
I don't like the smell of regular beer.
i am done...
nice.. would you clue my last 54 pen :D
he* cat + what you get at the beach + vowel
would rather drink a dry cider on a hot day -- not strongbow though as it tastes too much like beer
it was a nice grid for me...
still have 32 to go, so reserving judgement
i like hard cider but not beer...
i'd rather have a gin and tonic on a hot day
Here I am in the country of beer and wine and I only drink diet coke
we have quite a few micro brewers in our valley making hard cider now -- some of them very much like the Normandy ciders
i like pear ciders too
eric bordelet's are the best
will have to try it if I ever get to CA again -- like pear cider, but it is quite a bit sweeter than the apple usually
this one isn't sweek
sweet
it's from 300 year old trees
ok -- didn't know pear trees grow to be that old - wonder if the fruit has a more concentrated flavour?
I Do know that pear wood makes a wonderful sounding violin
it tastes like a white burgundy
it's pretty incredible stuff
maybe it wil appear on our shelves -- after all -- trump wants to dump US wine in our market. We already have WA state apples being dumped here but Mr. Greed won't be happy until he has it all
I wonder if he realizes just how much animosity he is generating for the US around the world - doesn't he know that nobody like a "me first" person?
to be honest nan.. you guys could use better wine there
your taxes on wines in Canada is beyond obscene
the reds yes -- we don't have a warm enough climate for red grapes -- other than the vineyards down by the border -- but not the wihites. I have never found a CA white that I like -- they are mostly too thin and taste like battery acid
mind you I am not buying $75 bottles of wine either
true. but i figured that when you said battery acid
yes -- liquor and tobacco taxes are very high --- helps to pay for the medical costs
i am all for super high tobacco costs :D
to my mind a good table wine should not cost more than $15 per bottle
there are plenty that do just cost that nan.. you just have to know them.
A lot of the wine I really enjoy is under $20 for everyday
but now that I'm older my palate has changed too
Trump doesn't care what the world thinks
There's a sizable percentage of the US population that don't care either
I have a lot of expensive wine.. but mostly i'm just selling it off now.. they don't interest me on a day to day basis of having a nice glass with a meal
as far as trump goes we are in for four years of hell here
I don't think he cares what anyone thinks mool --- he has a nice little nepotic oligarchy going for himself
just hope he hasn't turned the US into a dictatorship by then, ru
that is somewhat of a concern nan
all that is missing on him is a tiny little orange mustache
<---heads to the list
I don't believe he'll be able to turn the US into a dictatorship
But I do believe that he's harmed some basics in the democratic process, including transparency, objectivity and truth
he's trying to bully everything else mool
14 to go
yes, but you can only bully if those who are being bullied believe he has power over them
mool --- that thinking scares me --- did you believe he could be elected?
I think initially there were a number of republicans who thought he did, but I think there are fewer today who are scared of him
No, I didn't believe he could be elected
I did.. there's a lot of anger in middle america
But were all wrong some times :)
we're = were
And Clinton was such an awful candidate too
that is true
I think that US citizens should be very mindful of their rights and freedoms in the current climate --- already the current government is trying to withdraw rights of women and minority groups
WE ARE MINDFUL -- omg it's so scary
women especially
glad to hear it une
:-)
our economy is going to pot thanks to trump -- the dollar dropped another 1.3 cents yesterday
that will be good for my vacation plans nan :D
hello all. help with N in left column pls

I have ta8 but need help with ta7 pls

te 6 please?
it was a dark and spudly night...
having a smashing good time bonkler?
just me and the monkeys, mashing away at the keyboard
we have a granddaughter who didn't like "smushed" potatoes
so hard to unsmush
I liked smushed potatus
kids' language can be so descriptive. I remember our daughter making easter bonnets for myself and my mother at kindergarten. When her grandmother asked how she made it my daughter replied, well you just take pieces of tissue paper in any colour you want, scrunchle it up ..... and glue it on
craving smushed potatus n grave now
That or some poutine would be great :)
not sure on the te6 nan...still looking
te 6 please?
if it's any help, it's off the middle t, not the top one
yes -- it is my last word
oh, very good
I'm going all in, craving roast beef, smushed potatus and yorkshire pud all swimminig in gravy
then I shall try harder

cept
apologies. luckily not a word.
cept if you use an apostrophe
Cept if you talk in abbreviated text-speak. In which people don't bother to spell correctly or use capital letters
Well English is an ever changing language, so I guess if we wait a few years, cept will become ac-cept-able
These days, English is an ever deteriorating language.
he 7 driving me up a wall. Any help
HE + consonant + brown from the sun + vowel.
Did that help at all, Fit1?
I think you'll find English has always been "deteriorating"
I used to get annoyed at things like "mute point", until I started listening to some lexicographers talk about evolution in language
miniscule for instance is a corruption of minuscule
Still working on it Zoozoom
got it zoozzoom. Thanks a bunch
Anytime, Fit1, glad you got it!
Time for me to retire for the evening. Happy babbling everyone!
English has not been deteriorating as much as it has since the advent of text-speak and internet slang.
But then I don't follow lexicographers. Nice 50 dollar word.
Deteriorating by definition means it's becoming progressively worse. If you mean in terms of spoken language, I think you'll find that ever generation brings change to the language, both from a cultural perspective as well as a technical perspective
hi all. any clues for the 7 or 8 letter words? i dont have any yet. ty.
If you mean in terms of the written form, then I would agree there has been an acceleration in change because of the tools we use to communicate today
As to it being worse...that's a harder thing to evaluate. If you don't like the change, then you can say yes I don't like it, but if you look at whether it's making it harder to communicate, I think that's less evident
one 8 relates to whales
the other 8 relates to a place you might get a drink
compound word the second one
dont know the whale word. what are stats? ty
ce 8/50
a bar or pub? hmmm. dont have stats either.
a bit more oldschool
ta 8/55
got the whale word. ty
TY Moo
yw
looking for ta. i dont see tavern in grid. hmmm
compound word mkg
i got it! wow. ty.
nice!
thanks so much. any clues for 7s most welcome with the stat. ty
I have six of the 7s
also missing the N word for N in first column. ty.
ac7 adjective for something that is vinegary
ne5/12 on that n
comes up relatively commonly in grids, sounds like an army word contraction of two larger words
got the vinegary
ty
cool
got the ne word also. ty.
next 7 I have...he7 is a hydrocarbon with seven carbons :)
so nbt and nbs.
i will see if i can figure out he.
then there's ou6/7 combo...also compound word
then a pe 6/7 that refers to a gelatin like substance found in fruit
then an se7 which relates to se5 in a sense
woooo, you are way ahead of me. i just got he. ty.
nice
ou: any further clues?
to perform (in a movie or play) better than the others
ty got ou 6/7
got pe 6/7. ty
ta6.21 makes firmer - ta7 makes firmer a few times
dont know se clue. not getting it.
got ta 6/7 ty
the se7 starts like a month and ends in consumed
i have one se 5. is there only one? ty
ty got se 7.
wow. now have 6 of the 7s and ty very very much. keep going if you wish.
that's all I have so far
have 6 words to go
I suspect the final 7s are a C and an S, but don't know for sure
only half looking at the chat - do you both have ac7.32 & 7.36?
ty for clues so far. going to do dishes again. ty
oh, only the 36
Now have both
tx lyn
i have ac 7/36 only. clue for the 32 please lynxx
sounds like a vinegary sugar
there is also a pe7.32
okay
wow what is vinegary sugar?
a five headed sugar?
i have pe 7.36.
do you know what acid is in vinegar mkg? and do you know what sugars all end in?
pe 7/32 is a sugar also I would guess, but imagine it with five molecules
sorry but i dont recall this from high school chem. apologies.
no worries...do you know any sugar names?
malt***, gluc***, sucr***
fruct***
oh. ok
both the 7s I didn't clue end in that ending
tried pectose and not in dict.
right, think five sided
different prefix
ty got it.
Byeee
yay!
you are great cluers all. ty
I just try to avoid cluing too directly as much as I can
got the ac 7 also. ty.
awesome!
hi guys, I'm new! Does anyone know why a letter I've used still shows "0/1" in the tile stats?
off for now. ty
probably used a different letter frob
only one on the board - the y
It's uses the highest and leftest letter to start a word
for instance the N appears three times
so it might have used a different N
It's a word that starts with Y
is it not the stats for using a letter in a word? but for starting a word?
correct
ahhh
thanks!
np. and welcome
loved the book/movie
It was my favorite as a kid :)
still haven't seen the movie though :|
took my five year old to see it :)
well, gotta go assemble a trampoline

Hi folks
hi origami. just came back
how did the interview go?
How are you bugs?
I am good. Really enjoying not have a regular routine.
The interview was so-so. Parts went really well. We shall see :-)
I hope it would be something you would enjoy. The interview sounded like it would be gruelling.
It was grueling. I felt like I had fought ten rounds by the time I was done. It actually ran over to 5 hours. blech.
I'm sorry if it's a no-no to talk about other things, but I thought babblers would know, being puzzlers. Is the BBC's Sherlock Holmes worth diving into on Netflix?
If the interview was that long, I would be concerned about how much they would expect me to suffer on the job.
Hi Gadget. I never knew we couldn't talk about other things (except politics, sex and religion , of course). Some of the BBC Sherlock is quite interesting but there were a couple that were very odd and science=fictionish.
I quite liked their Watson.
It's not a no-no gadget.
Yes, origami. Most of the time the people who come here are remarkably supportive.
we just can't discuss Go Fund me things here nowadays
Don't get me started ru :-)
politics are back in action here in case you haven't noticed :D
yes, that is a good one to add to the official politeness list.
politics are back in action here in case you haven't noticed :D
People like to talk about politics but I was taught, and believe it to be true, just don't. It gets people fired up.
there is a "sensitive" Room for people who flip out about discussions of Politics and Religion
How are you , ruru? I have been meaning to email but keep getting distracted by shiney things
it's right next to the PB
I would rather be in the PB. Mroe fun in there and you don't feel like you are punished.
(imagines bugs locked up in a jewelry store)
with no snacks or alcohol
no.. just Xanax ori :D
in the room next to the PB I meant
and lots of Dr. Pepper
and all the other crows ;)
I'm ok bugs.. more or less
It takes a while, I know
:D a room to avoid
lol ori.. no shit
how are you two doing ?
I'm OK ru. Had a 5 hour interview yesterday. A little tired.
5 hours? holy cow
How are you?
I have an event in Fresno tomorrow.. so not looking forward to that drive
Not a nice drive, or a nice place.
I know how to live large :D ... Fresno
next is Bakersfield :D
There's a reason they don't call it Fresyes.
what could take 5 hours to interview? Jeezus
did we lose bugs?
Meeting with the interview committee, meeting with the direct reports, meeting with the associate vice chancellors, meeting with the VC.
Yes, she left :-(
too bad.. I might email her this weekend
my pool is back to working.. should be able to use it Friday or Saturday
Nice. Supposed to be about 80 here.
I have a new thing having a cocktail by the pool and watching the sunset at night
That guest room is ready, right? :D
yup
Cool! Packing the sunscreen :D
i'm going to buy lounge chairs soon.. probably in May.. and I need to buy an outside table with an umbrella
I just had to fork out some dollars for my brother's family
so I have to postpone frivolous purchases right now
i'd best feed the dog and get some shopping done.. have a great night ori
Nighters ru

Hey, Ori, are you still in Sacramento? (Just looked at your profile.)
Yes, Crayola. Are you nearby?
Yes, in Sacramento, too.
Small world :D We should get together for coffee sometime.
Yeah, nice to see a neighbor. I'd like that.
My email address is in my profile. Drop me a line and we can get together :D!
That would be great. :) Stay tuned!
Looking forward to it!
Off to exercise the beasts, be back later.
hey guys
