not so busy today, thank heavens. sprite, how did it go at the dentist? i was praying for you so hard.
oooh ok thanks let me see...
it went okayish, rose, but I have to go back on thursday :( He could only do one cavity, because he had to go so very slow for me.
there's supposed to be a po6/24. if there is, i'll eat Hurshy's hat.

stress is eating me up atm. Dentist, bills and my sister's party. Ugh. Can't sleep at nights.
honey, so wish i was with you. how about a sangria before bed..
i can't sleep either, that's why i am here
sangria is all finished, hun. I am back to the occasional cider :)
sorry you can't sleep, hursh, though it is nice to have you here in chat with us

*smiling at you* something to make you happier. Don has sorted all the photos into folders for each country. gonna nail him down and get him to email you the Netherlands one.

I fall asleep in the evening, then wake up an hour later and cannot get back to sleep until 6 am.
so irritating!
my poor darling... xoxox... i don't know how to help you.
just hang in with me for the duration. Things should settle back down once the party is history. Well, about a week later, lol, I need some time to clear the fallout. And pray for me, please?

Hello.
Hello.
Goody, a big grid.
hi ruby, hello all
Hi Peri, this grid is harder than it looks at first glance
yes it is. time to eat breakfast, bbl

Hello Lorii. I haven't seen you before.

Do you know the difference between a lemur and a lo***?
(not a joke, I have no idea)
No...
Well, now we're gonna have to ask Mr. Google!
a loris is a lemur but a lemur isn't necessarily a loris
Thank you, Dose, and how are you feeling these days?
And a Dose is a médicine or a very nice fellow from Canada
... have felt better ... but mustn't complain ... too much ... it's boring ...
but l understand, complain away!!
... being not busy ... waiting for the school year to start again ... so that I have something to do that isn't yard work
I can't do much in tthe garden -- l feed the fish, dead-head some of the roses and pick fruit, but only if there is somebody here. l'm too afraid of falling
I used to be ambitious.....
... by the way ... is there something happening in France the first week of October ... a holiday ... an election ... it was just hard to book a hotel in Paris that week
I don't know but will ask my friends
... just wondered ... got a seemingly nice place in Montmartre, near Sacre Coeur, but it seemed like everything near the Champs Elysee or on the left bank was booked
There used to be a shop between floors toward the ast end of the Louvre that sold actual prints from old engraving plates -- botanicals and the like. It was back in '64, and things were very different
... or perhaps we just didn't check out enough places
I used to take my 8- monhth old baby, witth his stroller, and tthe guards would help me
I especially loved the basement with its Assyrian and Babylonian massive statues, and l'd sit on the steps below the Winged Victory and draw.
... that's what we're planning ... just going for walks around the town because we haven't been there since '70 and '73
We spent a whole summer (lst husband) at the Hotel Cusset on yhe rue Richelieu. It was a greatt location as my husband was working at the Bibliothèque Nationale and we'd picnic at the Palais Royal because we were on an extremely limited budget
Comme ça change.....
... le plus c'est la meme chose
The Louvre was virtually empty, marvellous to have been there then. And Paris was still black; it was sand-blasted before my next visit in '67
... were you there for the excitement in '68?
Yes, I was living in London and my parents flew to Paris on the 1st flight available. I had a photo of a banner "Louvre en grève" and there were bodies in the river
no no, l misemembetred. Itt was "L'Op'ra en grève!"
(sorry for typos, my eyes were better then, too)
dose...I was there in January, and we stayed in a small hotel near the Louvre...a 5 minute walk away. Can't remember the name, but will check for you.
... heavens ... I've got the board expanded so large it doesn't all fit on the screen at the same time ... and I've got this stupid keyboard on the Surface which requires you to rest your palms on the machine which somehow causes the machine to think that you're clicking on the adverts
Paris has always been my favorite city
... thanks Champ ... we got a place in Montmartre up near Gare du Nord so we can catch the chunnel train to London for week two ... thanks anyways ...
Oh, no worries! When are you going?
I'll look forward to your reactions; Octt is the perfect time to visit. The hordes of lemmings will be gone
Oooh...I'll bet it's lovely then.
It''s always beautiful but summer crowds can be unbearable
... first two weeks of October ... wife wants to see London and I didn't want two weeks in the same town and the National Ballet of Canada was dancing in Paris the first week and I discovered where my mother's family came from ... so I talked her into Paris and London .
When you were there, Champ, wre there a lot of regugees sleeping in the streets
.... younger daughter gave me Orwell's Down and Out in London and Paris for my birthday
I did that with my daughter in January. No ruby...I imaging it was too dang cold for them!
We used Europe o,n $5/day on our first trips
My daughter graduated early from college, so I took her to see The Mousetrap in London. It was a dream of hers. Built the trip around that. "Made" her to go Paris too, while we were there. ;)
... I am much to old and stuffy to live out of a backpack any more ... did it once ... but I was young and fit then
Not like husband #deux who stayed at the Ritz! LOL
... ooh ... the Mousetrap ... forgot about that ... hmmm
... checked out the prices at the Ritz ... maybe for lunch ... once ...
Check it out. It's not playing every day. I think we went on a Wednesday. We did tea at the Ritz before the play.
Anyone care to clue an I or the Y?
It was elegant, and he was courting me
ya 4/7
ir 5/12
We were 30 mins late, due to Uber not working well in London. (That's a travel tip, Dose). But the lovely people at the Ritz settled us in, and made us feel like we weren't crazy, awful travelers. Thank you, Luv!
Hi, Luv, I don't have either one
Got the y...thx
hi ruby, I was clueing for Champ. If you need clues for them I can give them
I haven't even reached half and don't really care
I'm enjoying dose's planning vicariously
I hardly e ven go to "downtown" Annecy any more
tael
sorry
... Ruby ... have you every been through Chatillon-sur-Seine ... it's mid way between Troyes and Dijon ... ... turns out that's where my mother's mother's family is from ...
I've been in Troyes (manuscripts in the Library) and Dijon, bujt not Chatillon. What's there?
... just a small town as far as I can tell ... it was the French Army headquarters for the first battle of the Marne ... ... but it seems that Charles Gouin left there with the army in 1655 and got left in Quebec when Louis Xiii died and the regency had more important things to think about than a struggling agricultural community in the New World
... my grandmother is something like 7 great's granddaughter
That is very interesting. My first trips to Europe were sspent tracking down Huegenot manuscrapts
ryby, you've such an interesting life
. Later ones were sightseeing with an erstwhile French suitor, and the last oners were with 2nd husband, who wasn't really interested in much, but wanted to impress me
Yes, bichon, I am very llucky to have all those memories and to have wound up in this beautiful place.
... I thought he was a Huegenot because my grandfather's family were strict fundamentalist Scots Presbyterians ... but he was the loser in the family and ended up getting his housekeeper pregnant after his first wife had died ... so he married a Pur Laine Quebecoise Catholic much to his family's continuing disgust
Howw wonderful to be able to trace your family that way. I knolw the name of my grandmother's shtetl in the Ukraine, but, aside from some 19th C photos, there is Nothing else
... oh it was pure luck ... I didn't know my grandmother's name until I was 62 ... I just stumbled on it when one of my uncles passed away and my mother got a box of stuff
I have a dog crying for "good boy cookies"
... then he must have some
They each get 10 cocktail snacks with roquefort; it's a sweet ritual
no cocktails, though
... sounds like they eat better than I do ...
They certainly eat better (and more) than I do
... speaking of which ... I should do something about breakfast before I forget again ... and as I can't seem to take any particular letter past half way I must be off until later ... have a good day Ruby ... sunny skies and luck to all
bye Dose, thank you for bringing back Paris!
174 and l give up -- not even nbt or nbs
Bye bichon and luv (if you're still here)

hi haz
Haz! O bright and beauteous day! Thank you.
Hello! And you're welcome.
I keep thinking that this grid will magically transform into a much easier one. I continue to be disappointed.
I agree. I keep shaking my head and wondering if the problem is a foggy brain this morning. Much relief to know you find the grid difficult too.
No, it's not just you, it just isn't behaving nicely at all.
It's no doubt exacerbated by the fact I haven't had breakfast yet. So I'll take care of that now, and return later when my blood sugar is happy again. Great to see you, Haz!
Breakfast MIGHT just help, but I've had breakfast, lunch and afternoon coffee and it's not done a thing. Good to see you as well!
:) Be back later, all.
Bye, ch.
guess I won't be able to polish this grid off before the eclipse, just started - hi all (-:
ca 6/24, pls
Hello, Aloy.
ca + to whip someone with a ****
good to see you, Haz :-)
mix, wet noodle?
ty mixi
lol
I am very excited for the eclipse to start. my son went south to Columbia SC, I am staying here in Salisbury NC. 3% difference, and 2 hrs saved in traffic.
per usual, NE Oh will cloud over - arrgh
i have one ps, ps8/45, are there other ps
There was an interesting article in the paper today about the forthcoming eclipse and about some of the commercial ventures arising from it.
stats for 2nd column O please
'Lunar lattes' in a coffee shop and 'Total Eclipse Moonshine'
ps5, two ps8 and a ps9.
You know a grid is going to be tricky when you see stats like that...
I am charging everyone $3 to look through my glasses, lol
Just right, sue!
if I hear Total Eclipse of the Heart again, I am going to barf.
Oh dear. The original Bonnie Tyler version?
hubby has welding helmet. finally looked up rating. should have 14 +, our helmets are rated 13. oo4
saw something on the TV last night - stand with your back to the sun and use a cracker that has little holes in it - place it in front of a white background, using the cracker as a pinhole filter - the image of the eclipse will appear on the paper.
Aloy, that wont work with the peanut butter on it.
Mix, the 004 is from the bottom O, isnt it?
LOL - true, sue - am using a Ritz here
os4/4 comes from that o, haven't found the second yet.
yes
two oo4 from bottom o
I hope someone takes photos of people in welding helmets holding crackers to paper.
LOL Haz
am planning on watching the Nova special, "eclipse across America" tonight for the best views
I hope the weather behaves, it's really annoying if you prepare for something and then total cloud cover wrecks it.
am used to it here, Haz - but one year we did see a lovely lunar eclipse. Miraculously, the skies were clear
... Baltimore baseball team also from the 2nd column o
we are mostly sunny right now. just a couple of puff clouds. it should start in a couple of hours.
ty doseff
we're supposed to get 92% coverage.
no surprise, "aloy" is not in enable - had to try it anyway.. ooh, mixi - great
*lurking and stealing clues*
It's not stealing, it's recycling.
TY Haz. I feel better now. :)
Good.
sue you will be seeing it around 2 oe 3 this afternoon am I right? I don't have the proper "eyewear" so hopefully I wont even be near a window. you CAN go blind if you look directly at it
But have you got Ritz crackers and a bit of paper?
haz oddly enough we do have some crackers with holes in them lol
but true that should work
em5?
There you go, scroll back in the chat log and you'll get the method for the crackers.
10.45 - Aloy posted the method.
hmm interesting ty
em5 is a plural.
Or just stick a pin (to make a hole) in a card - hold over the paper.
If you have no ritz crackers!
There'll be a run on Ritz crackers in the shops, prices will soar.
Ack. so4/4.
ty
hi helen
hi haz
'Lo all - I'm having trouble reading the chat and checking the time, and calling my son, as well as Babbling - so I don't pay enough attention to the chat. Feel free to ignore me!
- back - know how you feel helens, phone ringing, hubby showing me his smoked glass alternative to my cracker filter - hard to concentrate on Babble- have to stop munching on the crackers, lol
Nice that the adjective applied to today's eclipse is in the grid!
yes it is!
Smoked glass sounds interesting. Is this a method he thought up on his own?
helen glad you didn't say the s word as it is in the grid(type of eclipse)
no - he learned it a long time ago - I googled and it is not recommended because of a chance of small slits that could let too much light through -but he has tested his and will use it anyway
who discovered the ritz cracker thing Andy Griffith?
hi ru - any cracker with holes will work , ie., little holes!
sounds cheesy to me
1829 by a guy with the last name graham
not going to give you a groan for that (-:
:D
just trying to spread the jokes around
lol, that was better
but the cheesy jokes because you want to crack us up and you are crackers and cheesy too
MLF - what's with the skull?
I'll never wafer from a punning opportunity
I love taxidermy items but not the real ones that is just ceramic
can't suppress it - groaaaan
i don't own any but i have always liked them
quite a good replica, MLF
yeah i thought it was neat when i found it while looking for one to post in here as my pic
that is stunning mlf I want one!!!
i got a link from a magazine whre this person got it hers from its called nearanddeer. they range in different prices
deeha i wish i had a whole collection of different sizes and colors of them
I think I have a bone to pick about the colors
no pun intended right ruru?:D Hello ruru
what steered you to the skull mlf :D
Down to 6 words - must go get something to eat. Bye all - have a good day - enjoy the eclipse.
bye helen
u2, helens!
{groans, ruru :) }

strange grid today
that skull is an O'Keefe-r mlf

that was sooo cool -- totality here in Nashville . . . street lights came on, crickets started chirping . . . and the corona was just electric white . . . wow!
okay . . . bye
Greetings, all!
Wow! So glad you got a good view, Une. Clouds gathing here. :-(
Hope many of you enjoyed the totality eclipse!
Watched it live on the TV looked amazing!
Was supposed to be a small covering of the sun here but it is too cloudy here to see anything.
shag
oh i am so sorry everyone.
reminded me of the joyous experience when the start of 2000 was covered worldwide - the Eclipse Across America was a treat to watch - so much happiness and celebration ! Hi all - back to Babble now
Well, we know what's really on your mind, Zooz.
:-)
Aloy is in the grid today!
yes ! (but enable won
won't accept it)
What does enable know. Wear the tiara with pride young lady :-0

And congrats on getting over 10 million points on babble so far!
red bARS, so I'll repeat - tyvm, haven't checked rankings in a while and did not realize
Yes I just had a few red bars here too.
so nice of a friend to drop off eclipse glasses - great view of the last part
Glad you got to enjoy it!
will watch it again tonight on the special TV show - very cool !
I find it amazing how the moon is exact size and distance to fit perfectly for a total eclipse.
we do live on a special planet!
True.

When I saw it, I couldn't resist!

Some new words for me in this grid.
congrats, zooz!
yay zooz, congrats!
I had the cats eye nebula, then just changed to my sidewalk with really odd shape shadows from the eclipse.
we didn't get totality. only about 92 %.
Oh I see!
ditto here in Seattle area, mix.
Time for me to grab a bite to eat. Hope you all have a great evening.
