FWs...last two words were al 6/36 and pl.
good morning all, an early babble for me
good morning Sprite
hi sprite
what time is it there now Sprite?
good evening, flosey! How did the doctor appointment go? And how are you doing?
hi harpjane
exactly 11 pm here
it is 8 am here
is that Saturday or Sunday
wow, 15 hours ahead of me
sunday here
no Sprite, you are ahead of us - it's Saturday night here
sprite, we are behind you! It's exactly midnight in Montana
9 hours ahead of West Coast Canada
oh! Wow, did I have it all wrong in my head. So... aussie first, then US and Europe, and then Canada.
thanks, harpjane. I can get so confused with timezones :)
aussie, europe, US, canada. Right.
Right. It turned Sunday on the International Date Line about 15 hours ago. Then Sunday crept across Australia, Asia, Africa, Europe, and now it's heading into the US. But it will be Monday soon in Australia....
don't laugh... I have written that down :)
not laughing Sprite, smart move
:) I stink at topography too. Always had the highest marks, but one day later I had forgotten the maps completely.
ks killed
I love maps. I dislike GPS and I find myself smug and intolerable when GPS is out and I have the only map in the group.....
lolol! I can read maps. We didn't have a gps in the car until recently (Don and Rose donated the one they used during their trip to us!) and always used maps. I just can't remember them for long.
*giggles at 'intolerable smug'* Great feeling, isn't it :D
your icon always makes me smile, harpjane. Those harps look like an angel.
...and jut to add to the mess, it is 2.23pm here in Western Australia, while Rose, Liz and other east coasters have 4.23pm.
flosey, I see that my question got lost in chat. How did the doctor appointments go?
hiya dofith! Yeah, internal timezones for aussie and US too... it is a mess :D
and canada too, no doubt. Too big for just one timezone.
and then all the differences in DST allover the world... madness.
When the USSR existed, we used to teach that it experienced 12 time zones!
..at least in terms of 15degree longitudinal bands, not necessarily how their government decreed.
indeed. We have quite a few different timezones in europe as well. Can you imagine, 12 zones in one country?
Yes, you'r right. Here in Aust, only southern states have DST, we don't, neither does Qld and NT.
Then there's my pet peeve - time changes twice a year here in the US. Drives me batty!
Hi everyone!!
We keep having referendums (referenda?) here over daylight saving, but it never gets in - people say it's too damn hot for too long on a summer's day without delaying nightfall for another hour.
hi Kamanjah
*hugs Kam* Ikr! I hate DST. Messes up my system completely. At least the summer-to-winter change here is relatively smooth. But the other way around, when everything has to be earlier than feels right... I have a bad week of it at least.
Hi Kamanjah. Same here!
so true, dofith. Can't see the advantage for you over there.
*hugs* back, Sprite! I'm the opposite of you - I love long evenings and hate it when it's dark at 4:30PM. Plus, they change the date for the time changes every few years...silly, imho
When I was a worker and when we had daylight saving trials, I enjoyed having that extra hour before dark - could get stuff done outside before dark and the horrible creepy crawlies came out.
here, it is always in a weekend. So the date changes every year. It is a good thing my computer does it automatically, that is often my cue that things are rotten for a while again :D
But, it is easier to 'fall back' on one's body because we can 'sleep in' until we adjust.
I worded that a bit incorrectly - they change weekends. The dates change every year, because it's always at 2AM Sunday regardless of our time zone.
rose and Liz told me that you don't have much twilight time in aus. Here, daylight goes away slowwwwwly. In Summer, it is easily 10 pm before the light is really gone. 11 with DST.
Apparently our farmers are always against daylight saving - the farmers themselves work work by the sun but their school kids would work by the clock - the whole family would end up in a mess. So they said anyway. What about farmers in the US and Europe?
here, farmers are the most vocal about keeping DST. Guess their families don't mind the different schedules.
wow, frustrating, Kam! They changed the weekend here once. From the first in Fall to the last of september, iirc.
I just wish the government would leave time alone. Our bodies tend to go with the sun, not the clock. But they don't want to delay the time for school starting, so they turn the clock back an hour so the kids can catch the bus after the sun rises. Then their poor parents get home from work after dark...
It is just another issue we confront every few years, along with the republic, the flag and now same sex marriage! And everyone gets their knickers in a twist again!
I am with you, Kam. Let the time stand, and let us adjust. Must easier.
Gotta love democracy!
lol dofith, indeed! Can't wait to see what the outcome of the referendum is, about the same sex marriage.
I think we change the first weekend in November now, and I forget when in the spring. They moved it up a few years ago. The fall time change used to be before Halloween so the kids could go trick-or-treat earlier
democracy stinks. Problem is, all other forms of government are worse, grin.
must = much*
It's not a referendum because it's an act that is to be changed rather than the constitution. This vote is neither - just an opinion poll for the gov't to gauge public opinion, I think. What a waste of time and huge $$$. Let the gov't govern, I say.
true, I read that, sorry.
I am going to get myself all worked up again. Will put away my soapbox and have a stiff drink, perhaps!
*pours dofith a drink and brings up some new-learned aussie slang: no worries, mate!*
An election for "opinions"? That seems a waste of money. Of course, election issues in the US have become a world-wide farce lately. I'll leave my soapbox behind tonight... ;)
The biggest problem with the same sex marriage thing is, I think, the lack of discussion about the legal advantages to these marriages being recognised - next-of-kin issues etc.
they should follow the same lines as for man-wife marriages, in my opinion. No need to have different legal patterns.
Lol, Kam and Sprite! US politics is fascinating, right now - makes our lot look quite reasonable, for once! Goodonya, Sprite!
rose and don sent me a book on aussie slang :D Am a student now :D
I'm 100% with you, Sprite. I believe in equal rights for all humans.
Of course they should, Sprite. It won't make a bean of difference to hetero couples, so I don't understand why anyone would vote no.
Ha, from my viewpoint, politics in the US today is a bad joke. Oops, the soapbox is sneaking out...
*sighs and wishes babble chat could rule the world*
OK, Kam , Sprite and dofith - soapboxes away NOW!
Thumbs up to babble chat!
*breaks soapbox, feeds campfire, brings out guitar* Kumbaya, My Lord... Kumbaya...
Babble chat rools!
::giggle:: Good one, Sprite
Thanks for the chat, ladies. 'Bye now xx
Ah, campfire...sounds so nice and peaceful. Our weather has finally dropped into tolerable ranges
Bye, dofith, nice to 'meet' you!
bye dofith, lovely to have you join us for chat!
Likewise, Kam and Sprite. Really going now...
fireflies. Last word eu7/64. I mean, come on! Needed lickety and a2z for it. "the ability of an organism to live under variable conditions". My new word learned for today... oh, it is alternative spelling too!
Congrats, Sprite! There are some oddball words in this grid! That's my missing 7, at least you already looked it up for me!
*hugs Kam* Have a lovely day! *leaves hug in chog for rose to find* bye all, have a blessed day and a peaceful night.
And a great day to you too!!
I hope I didn't give away too much for the eu7. Though I think, unless you know the word, it is impossible to find monkeying :D
fw and off to bed - nice and early tonight!! good night all

They are very cute.
off now for day out bbl good luck all
Back. Hello, Molly, if you're still here
There was an endless discussion about DST this morning.
The only Strange thing about it for me is that it's a week different here than the US
Wow, I didn't know there was that much to say about daylight savings time. : D
They went on for ages and then had a "deep" discussioin of democracy
I'm not a big fan of "dark at 5PM".
c ommie
Nor am l, but there's nothin g to be done about it
In Dec, it's dark here at AM and also at 5PM
8AM*
<-- very far north
Well, this time of year is less light and more darkness, whether we adjust the clocks or not. As for Democracy, well it seems somewhat of a sport here to find fault with America in general.
l'mout of the way and the climate is pretty temperate glad l live here, dark or not. At least it's

Don't tell scrabbler!
Hopes scrabs doesn't show up for that
I don't get a choice, sadly
I'm surprised at some of the things you get. It doesn't seem like this meals program takes the dietary and digestive needs of those they serve into account.
Not at all. l'm certainly not the oldest, but often meat is so tough that it's unchewable and often too salty.
They brought soup only once in the past year!
*
They need a good dietician
"monkey boy" just left. He is the sweetest 16 yr old l've ever met unlike yesterday's boy who is like a hu7, but less interesting
"Like a hu7, but less interesting". Ouch. I have met, mopey teenage boys like that. I would think soup would be a great thing for a meals on wheels organization to make. It uses up leftovers and is very nutritious.
*Decides to take the job as Ruby's personal chef and ghost writer
Morning all. Well, afternoon but we didn't get in until after 4 last night thanks to delayed flights from Portugal. May I have stats, please, for the O smack bang in the middle of the board?

I'm clearly tired and missing the blindingly obvious. Thanks, bich.
No problem. As usual, there are plenty of weird words in this grid that you won't feel bad about missing.

But there is always the possibility of that rigid 4-hour period (Women joke about this far fetched possibility)
well.. time may pass flaccidly... errr I mean fluidly
2 minutes? Believable. 4 hours? A pipe dream.
Howdy, all.
hi judy
<---way past two minutes :D
nome
Shit. Sorry.
Oh (bats eyes innocently) I thought Judi was going to Alaska
Nome an is an island.
I thought she was shopping for lawn ornaments
Nome I didn't know that. Yes 'em, I know about Alaska.
well judi it takes one to nome
Is there anything more ta5/24 than a yard full of lawn ornaments?
A former classmate of mine has a lawn ornament making business. She buys molds and posts the new statuettes on Facebook. They are God Awful.
I never really got that stuff....but I do like the pink flamingos though
one of my neighbors has the Lawn Jockeys
Yeah. Pick flamingos are the hippest.
Apparently the older, chalkware figures are now very collectible and equally pricey.
This includes original (not reproduction) lawn jockeys, animals - such as foxes, rabbit, squirrel, etc.
I confess to buying my nephew a lawn ornament for his garden. It's a platypus.
I have a bunch of rock in my front yard so Lawn ornaments are inappropriate :D
It never ceases to amaze me what some people will funnel money into to make those things "pricey". Lawn ornaments, beanie babies, etc.
*cringes at Beanie Babies * I hate those stupid things. Feel sorry for all the suckers who collected those.
Remember when people used to put those metallic balls on cement stands in their front lawns? WTF was up with that?
My SIL had a 6' tall display case with all her Beanie Babies in it. * eye roll *
Let us not forget the blessed mother within what looked like a 1/2 bath tub.
Collectibles elude me. Especially those things with the big eyes that look like Weemees.
Precious Moments
* barfs *
Totally with you on this. Good morning/afternoon!
my grandmother had a bunch of precious moment statues.. they were horrible
If something needs to be advertised as "collectible", that's a clue. To me, collectible is something you just choose to collect.
I agree champ
Yep. My grandmother collected Hummels.
I collect wine.. but I make profits off the bottles
I'd like to collect hummers too
oh hummels
Hmmmm...a glass of wine sounds quite nice right now, since you mentioned it. ;)
I had champagne yesterday.. was delish
What kind?
domaine agrapart
Classic cars, art, wine, all understandable collectibles.
Never had that. Glad you enjoyed it.
he's a great producer and reasonable (sort of)
I'm sure it is better than the cheap ass grocery store champagne I sometimes purchase.
Molly buys Shamepagne.
I have friends who know champagne. Works for me...I just drink what they like!
you can buy decent sparkling wine at Costco.. molly the Roederer (Mendocino) Brut.. it's about $15-$16 and it is pretty damn good
Love me some Costco.
lol! I still refuse to buy wine that's in a box, can or bag.
store bought cheap sparkling wine is really bad for your health.. bad chemicals and additives
Wine comes in cans? ICK.
it does.. I can't believe it but it does
Pretty sure I haven't missed anything.
bet you haven't either
my dad used to drink wine in a box..
People like it. Someone's buying the stuff.
actually my dad drank a lot of stuff..
Mine too, Ru. He raved about how well it fit in the fridge. I tried it once. Awful. Completely spit-outable.
I have a friend who kept it in her RV. It fit perfectly.
yeah.. I tried it once too.. it's pretty awful
Nice recommendation, but I don't shop at Costco. Hard to justify that for a food budget for two.
oh.. maybe at a total wine and more.. they have pretty cheap prices too
There is a carrier made called "bag-o-wine". It is a canvass bag made specifically made to hold the bag from a box of wine. There's room for glasses.
Portable party!
Mouse wants a new battery and cat wants attention. Off I go.
You remove the bag from the box and insert it into the carrier. I has a hole for the spout. Perfect to take to an party...........if you like the wine.
bye!
Bag-O-Wine. I'm thinking MD 2020 now
:)
Bag-O-Wine used to be of the brown paper variety. On the street corner.
MD 2020?
It's street bum wine. Very cheap.
Oh, I see.

That's what the priests used to use for mass when I was growing up . Loved going to communion
Boones Farm used to be very popular too. Among the winos and the underage crowd.

Before 2 Buck Chuck.
Somehow, cheap wine on the altar for a holy ceremony seems wrong.
I need to ask what they use at church. Have no idea.
I can tell you for certain.. it's not Lafite
I guess if you are going to bless it and make it holy, it doesn't matter what you start with. I have to wonder how good the wine in the time of Jesus was.
well.. if I was going to have my last supper, you can bet it'd be a pretty good wine :D
hello 73 to go
This reminds me of a joke. "Jesus walks into a bar. Orders 12 waters. Winks at disciples."
heading out to go for a hike.. have fun everyone
Cute!

Take the at out of a word that means juvenile or acting below one's age.

good clue molly, thanks
Two vastly different clues right there!
cow patty? pancake? ... juvenile.... mmmm don't tell me! :)
got it! Great clues, both of you!
hi chch it's always nice to see you!
hi harp! I was thinking of you the other day when I saw the weather map, and the smoke in Montana.
yeah. I was not personally impacted by the fires, so I don't mind the smoke. This was the longest fire season in record, though. Ever.
I hate to say this, but probably the longest fire season on record until next year. It's been awful across western Canada and the northwestern U.S. too.
I forget, where do you live? Washington State? Were you near the fires in the Gorge?
yo5?
We live in north of Seattle, so we have smoke drifting down from Canada, and from eastern Washington. YO5 is an odd word. yo + first 3 of the silent French street entertainer.
thanks, taking a break now, with 44 to go
