I feel like I paid my dues and earned my retirement. When I left the school district I worked for years as a tutor so I got a higher hourly salary and only worked with kids whose parents were interested. Much more fulfulling.
After I got OAP I didn't need to tutor any more so now I am truly retired.
How are your grandkids? Must be huge by now.
Congrats on the full retirement. I still have a "few" years to go. The grands are getting big...17, 8 and 2 now. The eldest in studying in Denmark this year. (I'm jealous of that, too.)

Indeed! I had to evacuate my home in the Santa Cruz mountains once because of mud slides and didn't know for 2 weeks. Oh, California. People think we worry about earthquakes. It's fire and freaky weather that scares us.
Fires and freaky winds are a terrifying combination that seems to happen every year. We are waiting for "The Big One", meaning huge earthquake, up here but it could come anytime in the next 100 years so it doesn't seem as imminent. We are supposed to have earthquake kits and most people do.
I am woefully unprepared for any catastrophe. I need to get a go bag together and water, etc.
I hope it never comes to the point where you need it. I often believe being prepared is a protection in itself.
