hiya, sprite
hi rbud! How are you doing?
good morning Sprite
*hugs flosey* Hello dear lady, how are you today?
great thanks Sprite and you?
am doing great too this morning.
thanks! How is the grid? Any fun? :)
I'm fair to partly cloudy, bout like most days.
almost ready to hit the sack though!
*smiles at rbud* You are pretty, even in shade!
so far it's not too bad, if you consider 99 in almost an hour
sounds good to me, flosey!
I have 105 left, been not bad so far. took a while to figure out the bottom N for my nbt/nbs, though
I see what you mean. Every time I think I found it, the word comes from the top N, lol
turns out it's a plural of one of those
that should help, thanks
{{sprite}} {{flosey}} hugs and kisses. i have done NOTHING today. it has been a beastly 39C. cool change has arrived in town central but not out here yet. i refuse to do anything away from the A/C and fans. yesterday was the pits. went to church in the morning, by the time i was home, you could have wrung the sweat from my top.
aw sweetie :( That sounds ghastly. *hugs* in an igloo.
Hi there Rose, hugs and kisses to you too
made the vicar laugh tho'. as i said good-bye i said i'm going home to sit in the frig.
:D
I should be ashamed to admit that I still cannot think in C so accustomed to thinking temperatures in F
that is literally a killing heat, I am glad to hear you are doing nothing at all except surviving.
a 102.2 F, flosey
must remedy that!!
grannyrose, i just read about a whole underground town in australia where it can be 122 above ground and 72 in the people's houses (without AC)
oooooooooooooooh, ugh, that is far too hot Rose, unbearable even
what sprite said flosey. is that warm enough for you?
hiya hursh
ah, hurshy, that would be Cooper Pedy. i plan on visiting one day.
hi, going to bed but just saw the thing about the heat
yes, that was it!
sleep well, hursh, and dream of pretty things
Sounds like our past summer - only a few days under 100. Sat in the AC all summer long. I'm sorry you're having to deal with it there too. I hope our coming summer isn't as awful, but if you're having it now, we'll probably get it again..
Night, hursh, sleep well!
*hugs Kam* Great to see you. How are you and your beloved?
*hugs* sprite, rose & flosey - we're ok. He's aleep on the couch, so I need to get sleepy..not gonna happen in the next 45 minutes tho
have you been able to process the disappointment a little?
hi there Kam - hope you can find lots of words in that 45 minutes then
He had a long day, this always happens. I'm a night owl. I've been plugging away at this for a while - about ready to list cuz I feel stuck
ks killed
I have half an hour left to play before I have to leave for my meeting
way to go Sprite - don't have a single one yet - working on Cs
am only halfway with those!
need 4 more here
gooooo flosey
just monkeyed eo7 - don't remember ever seeing it
it looks familiar to me... might be from another game though
good one to remember for scrabble
a game I haven't played for years
*giggles* And the other name for it: , tetrabromofluoresceinic.
I love scrabble. Used to play Words with Friends with some people. Petered out though.
I love all of the word games, but no one I know in person wants to play cuz I know too many Babble words, lol!
here we seem to play bridge more than anything else
lol, yeah, we are brutal adversaries
Even my daughter, the English teacher, won't play with me on WwF
awww :(
I feel bad sometimes, but this game teaches us more obsolete, weird, off-the-wall words than any dictionary could - I just tried to look one up - not in the dictionary, didn't go to my backup dictionary tho
I look up at least one new word every day, and try to remember it, lol.
I know!
good for you Sprite
mwah, the remembering part does not always go as planned
yeah... there is a term for that. checking the meaning of words. don found it. don't ask me... i forgot it as possible... loll
dictionaritis?
I'm simple, I just call it curious
that's a word??
hahaha, sprite!
nah, made it up at the spot, silly
*whispers, your secret is safe with me Kam *
well it is a great word....loll
*shhh*
:D
that gerund end comes mighty useful btw.
yeah it is a good one today
and that C tile needs to be shot. some very weird words from it.
just found the one with the latin ending, lol
Cs capped
and the first two de's should remind you of one of my grandkiddies.... loll
true, and you are in here as well
oh yeah... how about that ?? it's a ro4 gr4...
it is a ro- and de6 gr4
well, time's up here. *hugs* to you , one extra for ro4, and I wish you all a very good night.
And a good day for you!
bye for now Sprite, have a good day
see you sweet lady. hope your days goes well. xoxox
think it's time for me to go, 65 left for tomorrow, good night all
sweet dreams flosey. xoxox
Sleep well! I have to get 8 more...then get ready for bed.
kam, have to go. i have to fill out the paperwork for when i start cardiac rehab tomorrow. xoxox to you and DH
good luck with the rehab, be a "good girl" rose! hugs!
so much for sleep!! no idea what woke me but might as well put the wakefulness to good use!!
Hello, Flosey :-) Do you have the stats for the bottom N please?
ni6.18 I think Zooz
Thanks, Lynxxx, Looking...
its single version came from another n
Ah thank you found it!
it could be ni5/10
sorry to be so slow, was in the kitchen
It was the plural of that one, Flosey.
No need to be sorry. Real life comes first :-)
I have 74 words left but have slowed down almost to a halt!
Bye
Hope you have a sweet sleep, Lynxxx. And thank you for the help!
Well 52 left for me to try and find later. Happy babbling everyone!
Anybody still here?
Hello
yes, but about ready to go back to bed
Hello over there, Ruby. How are you today?
morning ruby and scrabbler
Hi Buttonman. I would like to sleep another 1-2 hours but I have an appointment in about 2 hours.
l'm managing, scrabs l had a medicatl question for you the other day, but l've forgotten itt!! LOL
Hi button
wise
hi to both of u
lt is colder now than when l got up 5 hours ago!
Not so wise.
Wise enough!!
I just got a winter storm advisory on my phone, but just 3-5 inches coming. I want more than that.
thanks for the word scrabbler, finished off the w's
YW
fw and back to bed, good night - once again!!
Sleep well, flosey.
My dog stays outside while the housekeeper is here, but when she leaves, he rushes in to keep me safe
Good dog.
l am very fortunate!
eros
sorry
TY, I missed that one.
Hi and thanks, Ruby from me too. I'd also missed that one.
Hi Liz
How are you keeping Ruby? Haven't seen you in a while.
is it still hot there? l am dy*** for spring!
l'm hanging on; winter is very hard!
It's hot - a regular summer for us - nothing like the termperatures they
they've had in Melbourne.
Grrr! Typos
It sounds like a hard winter in Europe. Heard that Paris is on flood alert.
l'm on a new medication, faslodex (fulvestrat) and tthe shots are very painful and leave me so** and bruised for days
Ouch.
Hopefully, it will work
Oooh! Not nice. Is it down to poor administration of the injection or just huge needles? Whatever, I hope the new meds work for you.
Anaprozole was much easier, but it stopped working
Which meant you were no longer in remission???
Actually, the visiting nure is very skillful, but it's a lot of liquid & takes minutes
That wouldn't be pleasant. Lots of sympathy coming your way.
l don't know if you can call it remission after so many years, but we Watch the markers
Fortunately, it's the most common form of breast cancer
Ah - sorry to be so ignorant. But like I said, hopefully this new stuff will be good for you.
I just read about those meds. New to me.
Must have good docs to have access to new drugs.
l think it is a new drug, second line of defence after anaprozole
I passed halfway so I am done. Not a fun gr4.
The care is very good her
Enjoy the day everyone.
Bye scrabs! Enjoy the new snow
I've just listed with 70 left. Too tired to fight the gr4. I'll go as far as I can tonight and finish tomorrow.
Have a good day Scrabs
I'm glad you've got such good care Ruby. That's important.
l don't know how to list, just limp along and stop when it's time for scrabble
And l'm in th' system, so l even get 4 little massages a week
I select and copy the words I have in My Word List and paste them into Lickety's bulk add.
That sounds nice.
All these c's are really baffling me.
c

ty chrisk
good morning everyone
is this a tough grid or is it me?
there is a ge 5 word that is the last part of that is 8.
They are all tough IMHO
i guess i prefer the ones with lots of ea combos rather than i's. i think i find i's challenging
i do find i's challenging.........
I find vowels to be tougher than consonants
for sure. but of all vowels the i and u are most difficult for me.
I've got to the point where there are so many non-recognizable words that I list as soon as I've reached nbt, nbs and can't see any more
u can be easier if it's un...otherwise yeah
there are a lot of esoteric a words tho
yup.
i recall a grid with high 400's of words and it wasnt hard due to all the s, t, e and a 's. also r and n 's/
yes, the scrabble rack with the most bingos is aeinrst
it's words like the fa 5/28 that annoy me -- no way should that be in any dictionary
also half words and prefixes
you think it's a fa5/28 kind of word?
Ultimately word dictionaries are like law...they rely on someone making a good argument and then it gets adopted :)
yeah (another piece of slang that shouldn't be allowed)
hard to come up with a good objective way to put words in dicitionaries
this dictionary, which is from about 1998 or so, was basically the TWL98, or official scrabble players dictionary from 1998
or thereabouts
the issue is we have become so global. when i was a kid in the 1950s there were no spanish words being used in our dictionaries. nor yiddish words. i spoke yiddish but knew those words were not in dictionaries. now they are in the grid.
they've updated it a bit since then, so now we have words like TIZ, EMAIL etc that are now good
yeah, that's certainly a part of it mkg...and it should be noted this is the AMERICAN dictionary we're using. There's a separate "Official Scrabble Words" dicitonary based out of the UK, which is far broader
the problem being depending on where you live, there is still no spanish, japanese, greek, italian, yiddish or anything else in common use
I'm most comfortable with the US one, and particularly this version, because it's what I started with. I play Wordtwist as well, and that has a pretty exotic dictionary
There's a lot of yiddish words that are pretty commonly used, or at least understood
a fair number of spanish words too...
There's a lot of French in the dictionary too
yup. i went to connecticut and was amazed to go to a grocery store and see ONLY white americans. employees were also only white americans. i am sure it is like that all over new england.
I imagine you know the Hawaiian words aloha and luau
A fair number of maori words as well, though only nouns...takahe, kiwi, tuatara, kauri
sauna I believe is finnish
depends on where in country for yiddish words. i lived in seattle and once said to a friend "what a schlepp" and the friend said "what?" she never heard the word before. also went to see Annie Hall in seattle theatre and we were laughing hysterically and no one else was laughing!!!!!!!!!! you had to be a new yorker or live close by, and had to be jewish.
I live in a bilingual country and very few people in the west can speak french -- isn't taught in our schools until grade 9 and even then it is an elective --- when I look at how fluent European children are in at least 2, if not 3 or 4, languages I think that is a crying shame and outright failure of our education system. What in the world is more important than good communication?!!!
and gaelic and scottish...........one day there may be one international language.
Indeed mkg...though I bet if you used the words schlong, kybosh or even verklempt, they might have broader understanding
Agreed nan, I think I learned far more about English, from learning some French. Picked up some limited Spanish too, and had a few "aha" moments as I learned the words for things
I do find verbs the hardest though. Listening to my daughter attempt to do past tense of English verbs, I realize how much inconsistency there is those
i agree as to languages. start kids in K with a second language and they will flourish. i say start them with a second alphabet too: like chinese, russian, thai, japanese.........learning two alphabets is crucial and creates a brain that is much smarter. studies have shown this. we all know the hebrew alphabet and the english one. and two of my sons they picked up chinese and speak that too now and read and write it.
done with this grid. 123 words only but enough for today.
yes I agree - conjugations are difficult, but when travelling in foreign countries I've found that people are pleased that you will try to communicate with them and they don't really care if you use the correct conjugation.
Although I wonder whether the Cyrillic alphabet might soon become more exclusive. Didn't Kazakhstan just make the decision to go to the English alphabet?
Have found the same nan...and it's surprising how far you can get with a few words
Managed to communicate with a Balinese person with broken english and gestures to find Drammamine
did you get the is word sue?
lol - biggest problem travelling was that we couldn't read the street signs in the Czech Republic
Heh, yeah....and their pronunciation is so different from English as well
Took me a few goes in Paris to get the taxidriver to understand my pronunciation of Montmartre...but we got there in the end
the best advice I can give anyone planning to travel in Europe is to learn 5 phrases in the languages you will need: please, thank you, I'm sorry, how much? and how do you say? (assuming you have a finger to point with)
solid advice :)
I guess 6 things -- hello is important too!
....and
and "where is the bathroom?"
there are signs in most places and "toilet" in some form or other is pretty universal
street signs are an issue........japan is good to travel in as english is there a lot.
and many japanese speak english. i was in negoya for a week and did fine.
do any of you play scrabble on pogp?
pogo
no -- play morewords sometimes, though
or wordsplay
mkg I lived in the orient for three years signs were good there too
i just had someone in scrabble accuse me of cheating?
all i did was get a BINGO ie 7 letter word

Can not get it here.
Oh, I wish ruru had been here to appreciate my wordplay ... I usually don't think of the right riposte until it's too late.
And looking back in the chat I see MLFAN had a "whine that is true" line that sounds like a Danny Kaye takeoff, and very very clever then.
is7,44?
Same as the is8 before it but ends in a sometimes vowel
ty fw.
yw
Clue for the lone n on the bottom row.
Plural of the one above. The singular is from the top.
Persons of Japanese descent born outside of Japan.
