Hi Ruby, I knew you were struggling with email problem and suspected it got lost in the shuffle, happens often
good to see you
l've only seen one hedgehog, none of the others, but l think Rufie found fox scat in the garden and rolled in it!
He was happy to share!
lt's very cold again, warm weather keeps coming and going but some of the tomato plants already have flowers. l stay bundled up in my "couch blankets"
How is Rufus?
Doing well, we have mild weather now for the area, only in the 90's

You cannot fathom the depth of my "I'm so done with this"
tertiare took me to one of those shake places yesterday, and I bought a shake to have for breakfast today. I did not drink a coffee though, as I wasnt sure if I would explode or something if I mixed the two. CANNOT stop yawning
Oh..and we are OUT of coffee...so that is adding to my displeasure
Was it good?
chalky as all get out. I would prefer real food, all things being equal.
I am sick again :(

Especially since he is in the "I'm not doing anything unless I get paid" phase. So this would be perfect.
Well I can at least start my email and newsletter here at home, so I will go do that. grrrrrrr

oops, sorry, thumb falls down at very inconvenient times!!
Good morning flosey :)
hi there Kate, lovely morning here on west coast - how's your area
I am hoping to get back to Ontario some time soon
LOL don't ask ;) Glad to see you are enjoying good weather! brb making cuppa
aha, sounds like a good idea! have been working on this grid forever!
You have family in the WEston Rd/Langstaf area, don't you flosey?
(Somewhere in Woodbridge, anyway..)
no Kate, one son in East Toronto, the other son North/West Toronto
I thought you were the one with someone off Weston
Road..or was it Jane of Keele.... doesn't matter. I have a mind like a sieve :)
no, not familiar with that area at all Kate, perhaps a friend, but I've never been familiar with that area
Someone else then.. where in NW TO?
grew up in the Scarborough area then moved to Willowdale
It just sticks in my head because the main rail yard in Toronto was between Jane and Keele mostly north of Hwy 7...so it is a point of reference for me
ah..I do remember you teling me about Little Switz! :)
I think the area where my oldest son is would be Woodbridge??
Likely Woodbridge flo... it is NW TO
ah Little Switz, such wonderful memories - we skated there for many years
They had a tornado touch down there years ago...
(interruption!!, sorry)
np, life does get in the way of Babbling
must take a break and be sociable!! Very Dear Daughter arrived last night and also another friend has been staying with us for a few weeks, right now they're all on east deck enjoying coffee - will join them for a while and be back later to find my last 34 words,
down to 34. Well done flosey, enjoy yur weather, coffee, and good company
tks, bbs
I'm thinking of coming back in the near future
I mean back to Toronto area
That would be nice. Any special reason?
2 sons still there plus many other cousins, etc.
So, a visit, rather than big famiy reunin, wedding, christening etc...
and also old friends
no special event, just to see loved ones, etc
I hope you wait until we at least get spring to stay- if not summer (which was AWOL last year)
I'll let you know, do you keep in touch with any babblers in the area?
I keep in touch on FB, not much for e-mail flosey. There aren't a ton of Babblers in TO.. we have a few in the "far east" like Whitby. There's Crossy, but you couldn't pay him enough to cme to Toronto...and there's no Go train out his way yet...
hello again, supposed to get rain sometime today and rain for the next few days different percentages
... admittedly Crossy would drive to Toronto from Collingwood ... but you could take the GO to Barrie which is about an hour from Collingwood
... and in summer you can take the GO Train from Niagara to Toronto
Hello Whitby contingent ;) good idea dose. I know they have expanded the Barrie routes and think they have even ectended the run past Barrie a few times a day... it even runs to Niagara now
... GO has expanded and is expanding but I don't imagine the train will ever get to Collingwood ... there might be a GO bus from Barrie to Collingwood ... ... unfortunately the most convenient way to get there is going to be a car for a long time
The drive from crossy's place to Barrie wouldn't be bad - especially for a noon/sfternoon meet up...but he does have a work schedule to contend with now Pretty sure the Barrie train runs all day now - rather than a bus outside of the rush hour trains
... I'd guess he's a forty-five minute drive from Barrie ... it's been too long since I've been up that way
I haven't seriously looked into times and cost of train from Miagara - it goes to St Kits for sure, but there eas talk of extending to N Falls.. It WAS only trains in rush hour, with buses to Aldershot/Burlington?Hamilton. not sure now...and I wouls still have to get from Fort Erie to NF or St. Kits (2-3 buses with poor schedules)
When you're in cottage country, a short drive can still be a nightmare... but depending on the time of year, he could be escaping black flies and shad flies ;)
... The Niagara train is a summertime thing mostly. The regular Toronto-Aldershot train switches south just before Aldershot and stops in Hamiton and St.Kitss and I think somewhere else before getting to Niagara ... I think it runs three or four times a day in summer ...
... je
... he's up on the lake ... on-shore winds ... no bug problem where he is ... just prom night drunks in May and June ...
Hiyas, Kiddos. Geesh. Ate some turkey breast for lunch, now I've got the sleepies.
... need cranberry sauce to counteract the turkey sleepiness ... and coffee ... lots of coffee
Hmm. Had plenty of coffee this a.m. Perhaps some SUGARRRRRR would help.
... in the form of cake and ice-cream ... ... at least you'll nap happy
* off to find a sugary nosh *
... good hunting
maybe Judi's onto something... I just ate the largest doughnut I ever did see, from "Dough" in NYC, plus an iced coffee, and am sailing through the grid. Or perhaps it's all those e's and r's... :-)
... they do help ... got most of the 'e's ... but I'm short on the "r"s
sorry dose.. was looking at schedules for GO... looks like its'a a bus to Burlington no matter when I travel...can't find times for St. Kits..looks like that train now runs to Fonthill instead
It would only show me schedules up to end og June..and they were ALL buses between Burlington and Niagara..will look more later using Aldershot instead
... the train is starting up this weekend ... it's just a summer tourist thing ... ... but I didn't see a schedule
I have given up... the site is a mess.... I did glean that the trip by train only runs on weekends.. otherwise it is a minimum of 3.5 hour journey 1 way with bus to Burlington....and that's without construction traffic...and I still have to contend with 2 buses to get to NF or 3-4 to get tjo St. Kits...this sux
the fare looded like it was $20 one way...plus TTC there is a metro pass thing though now...for all transit
can you tell I've been out of TO for 5 years now?
... easily
... how would you get to Pearson Airport? ... the train into the city from there is great
There was an article in the NF Review that they were going to make the run year round though... 2.75 hours on a milkrun bus :/ I can look into WEGO bus... cheap if you can book early but never done it before. I should see if anyone i know is doing the VIA runs to NF/St. Kitts.. I may be able to hirxh a ride
I'd go Union to Pearson Via the old Brampton/Bramalea Go which is now Metrolinx... they have reduced the fares on that.. they were 10.50 one way airport to union...
It could cosr me the better part of 100 jsut to travel.. plus 9+ hours of trains and buses. I don't think it's do-able -especially on a week day
Too bad joso can't be found.
clue for ir4,5 please. have ir4,4 and have been up, down and all around and the combo is a mystery.
never mind found it!

I've discovered a new pasta shape at Target - trottole - organic! if you're into thick chewy pasta shapes, try it!
I found the recipe in a cookbook "Good and Cheap" by Leanne Brown. I got it from the library.
will look for it
I never saw an eggplant I didn't like. Or a pasta either
haha
went out for lunch with my sister and bro in law. I had a Portobello sandwich with swiss cheese, onion and pesto sauce. it was really good.

do you like broccoli rab? I had a hoagie yest with broccoli rab, provolone, sweet peppers and onions. there is a shop right up the street from me
they warmed up the whole sandwich for me
It depends how it's prepared -- sometimes it's a bit tough to chew, or bitter - but when prepared properly it's great

More storms moving through here tonight. We had some severe ones last night.
the Rs are driving me crazy...
hoping for good weather in New York City this weekend
which re 7 do you need Nan.. there are two of them at least maybe 4
the R words are driving me crazy...
You can look up a 7 day forecast for most areas
Have a good time in New York. Not a place I would ever want to visit, but lots of people love it.
new York is fabulous.. fun, exciting, a zillion things to do.. great museums, restaurants, and the people are really nice too
just their football team sucks :D
and even that not for long.. they drafted some good players
I'm not a person who likes big, over crowded cities I'm sure New York is fun for people who don't have that issue.
ah.. well that I understand.. it's just different than that though.. it is a city you don't want to go to on a budget that's for sure.
Hi all
hello liz
hi liz...
can someone please clue the first AN word?...
an 6 - ends with a saint
an abbreviated one
um....ok....ty...
Sorry - not a great clue - I'm sure someone else can do better.
Ends in 3 consonants
ty for the clue....still working on it...
Do you have the an 5 - the 2nd an word?
an+ scrambled bird home
yes...
Like Molly said or add another consonant as the penultimate letter
a scrambled bird home is an omelet
:D
:)
<---Should have used penultimate in my clue
Wow. I missed so many plurals yesterday.
No, a scrambled bird ejection is an omelet
I like that word :)
I would have used penqultimate
Nice
finally found it....ty...
WTG
Liz, do you go back to the previous day stats to see what you missed?
Using Lickety now.
My yesterday is when this grid started - at 3pm
It's those time zones again :)
I often forget that.
and the grids are upside down too :D
Of course. I stand on my head to complete them.
lol.. that's what I pictured :D
And flush down the toilet backwards.
No the water just circles round the other way.
i wonder about mafia toilets in austrailia
Backward toilet flushing would just be messy.
Round the other way is backwards for us.

gr8 most kermit the frog like

re8 landlords (i think)
sometimes one assumes one know what a word must mean and sometimes one is wrong
en8 trapped (using a shorter s word of the same basic meaning), en8 trapper
i'm finding S words harder than R though
your EN 8 has 3 different 8s from the EN 7 before it hurshy - if you're still looking
ahh thanks, i missed it cause it comes from the center E instead
traps, for any onlookers...
It's tricky snagging them all ;)
well that only leaves one more 8 for me
and the person who does...
right, i said that in my 9:32 clue
oops, sorry...
no need to be sorry :)
sn 8?
ever notice how people in murder mystery shows think if they saw, spoke to, or heard from someone recently, then they cannot be dead now?
ahh thanks kate - had the 7 and forgot to pl it
a mere 24 words remain
une bagatelle
Hadn't noticed hurshy, but now that you mention it... it always seems to work that way
de rien ;)
it always makes me want to say, that is how death works. first you are alive, and then you are dead. if being alive a few hours ago guaranteed that you'd be alive now, then nobody would ever die!
that's the shock of coming to grips with the news, likely
yeah, i know
but it's odd
when you see it over and over
i wonder if real police encounter that the same way
and why do they even have detectives tell the news? why not hire like, a trauma therapist to tell people right from the get-go?
Probably something to do with plot and charater development for hte story...how else would they tie everyone together and create "flashbacks"
Well, it is television... gotta keep the story interesting.
so you think real police forces do have trauma therapists whose job is to tell people the bad news?
i'd be impressed if so
I wouldn't think so hurshy... that is more of a mass trauma thng - and fairly recent too...never used to happen when I was young. there weren't any specialist like that then (that I know of)
that's what we need tons more of in this world - counselors.
:/
what? it's like saying we need more peace :)
we do need more peace... on the fence about proliferation of counseling for small things that should normally be handled in-family. Not that there aren't some good reasons for getting specialised counseling.
if you have to inform people of a loved one's death - that's a trauma
i say all kids shoulld have to take psych in school.
and life is hard. most people can use some help dealing with it.
you mean like police informing of auto accident? I believe they are trained for that.
SN8-- those who make lip twisting insulting faces
Agree with that - psych should be a required course
i have 16 left!
HI libarel...and mkg came back! :)
go, go hurshy!
didja see all the clues i put for you mkg?
Hi TK!
SN8-- those who make lip curling Elvis like but nasty faces
lol - this dialogue made me laugh: "what's wrong?" "nothing" "try telling your face that"
just read an article about the palestinians: it was interesting. it said since 1945, the end of WW2, over 10 million refugees have fled and started new lives in new places. it said the only refugees in world history who did not take roots and form new lives were: the palestinians. they were kept in camps purposefully by their leaders who told them they would wipe out the israeli's and get them back their land. and this mind set has held them back as a people. they are taught to hate jews, hate israel. but they are not taught to hate the other arab states who refused to give them a place of refuge. they are not taught to hate the grand muftie of jerusalem who told them to flee. they are not taught to hate their own leaders who teach them hatred and violence. i never read this before and so it was a suprise. it said the mind set of the palestinians, particularly those in gaza, is not one to ever say ok, we will stay where we are and create a great nation here. it was interseting.
ty lib... I put that up for hurshy and mkg..ty for the hint for it!
ty for sn 8
what on earth are you watching hurshy?
oh ok :)
midsomer murders
yw
still no 9s. clues>?
that sounds a bit one-sided, mkg...
way back when, part of their lands went to the formatin of Israel, but outside of the 6 day war, the history is still quite murky for me... it is a very complex problem
hurshy posted them mkg...along with all the 8s
oh! hurshy's lovely clues have now dropped off the bottom of the chat. just before that point is all the clues
My mom is reading a historical fiction about the six day war, by Herman Waugh. I think I'll read it when she's finished. I realize it will not be completely accurate but historical fiction is often a good way for me to get a feel for an era.
The Winds of War?
nm, that's woek.
yeah. What kate said. Herman Woek.
I like historical fiction to. It helps to give context..much better thatn dreary dates and who did what balttle manoeuver when...
Valuable information. It will be easier to find it in the bookstore if I know who wrote it.
Wouk
I read that book back in high school, don't really remember anything about it, but think there was a bit of a romance intertwined in it... soo longa ago and so many books away...
there ya go! Hi une :)
hey :-)
Wouk this way?
touk this way
more like wouk up with a hangover ;)
lol the I was in high school when the six day war took place!

LOL libarebel
No. Not my mom
Kennedy was pres when I was born
OMG ruru!
That would be even more messed up!!

I thought it was Eisenhower-- I do remember him
I wasn't born yet. For once I don't feel old lol
I remember Eisenhower
I came in as Douglas MacArthur went out...
I was born the year Elizabeth became queen!
The same week, actually.
My father gave me my middle name Douglas because of McArthur
rally jane? 1953?
that's pretty col!
53 is a great birth year. Wine wise
1952. Did I get the queen's history wrong?
or did you mean accesion in52.
52 sucks for wine
I didn't watch Big Brother at home, but at other kids' homes we watched BB & raised our glasses of milk to toast the prez-- they showed his picture & played "Hail to the Chief"-- how ridiculous that seems now!
no, not wrong... most US think of coronation as when she became queen... but accession if the real date
bet there are some nice reds foating around out there from back then ruru...
1949-- couldn't my parents have waited until 1950?
I have tasted a lot of great 53s
49 is a great year too
ruru douglas rocks... has a nice ring to it ;)
Doug Rocks
Better than what MacArthur named his own son....Arthur. Who does that?
for wine or babies? :D
Wine
that borders on child abuuse ;)
I can top that
George Foreman named all his sons George...
Narcissist
lib - I'm guessing they jsut couldn't help themselves... so '49 it had to be
that is seriously weird, yeah
awww-- maybe babies too-- at least this one?
I went to school with Crystal Lear.
Her middle name was Shanda
franik zappa and moon unit and .whatever weird thing he named his son... then there was wowie zowie...
That was cruel
Dweezel
Sept 1-- New Years Eve conception? can't count-- overtired...
Is that a joke ruru? the crystal Lear... I am tired and discern-o-meter is failing
That is why you like fireworks here lib
No joke tk
Are you serious ruru?
that's 9 months lib..
Yep. I am serious
There was a Marcia Mello in my High School-- an upperclassman...
I have a RL and FB friend... last name Gunn father named him Remmington... true... remi gunn in my friend list.
That's hilarious!! And even with just the middle initial she's then crystal CLear!!
hey all, i still have no 9s. any clues and stats out there?
I guess an amorous New Years Eve...
DE 9 French word for yur bum, rear end...

New years eve sex is the best
Apparently. My husband was born 9/28 ;-)
the de 9 is a pl and 9/60
isnt that a re 7 kate?
ruru, not if you are alone..hehehe
Those cold January nights...
no mkg, different word.
Cold nights and stiff winds
a door or gate in an *****way.... pl that and then do it again
They met New Year's Eve. Then next morning he rolled over and said "so...you wanna get married?" And my hubby was born 9 months later :-)
stiff?
gee blocked on that word. re+ come back into orbit right?
a horse is an***** in the dentucky dedrby *(root)

I have to go to the Dentucky Derby some day
got it. ty for those clues. ty ty . great clues
haha
good clues. ty.
you spelled dedrby wrong ruru ;)
if anyone has other 9 please clue. and i only have one 8 so far.
would love more 8s.
did you go backin the hcog and scoop the 8s mkg?
the other is the French word for yur tushie
wow i know the word but spelling is another story. will google. ty.
DE double consonant + most suffix + vowel then pl for the 9
sorry NOT MOST...MORE suffix
ty. got the tush. ty. and that gives me second 9 and another 8. ty.
ok one last one before sleep:
please clue me one of the E words for the E in the fourth row. ty. i have none. otherwise i am going to sleep. ty.
DE Midnight Runners, come on eileen...HINT
Tk is butting in sith french clues
more spooky migh be one of them mkg
With
Homonym for Londonderry Air?
most spooky? spookie... som,e run from different Es
fourth row e? that's the burner
huh? was that a clue for the E in 4th row? i dont know midnight runners or eileen. so sorry
to go out the door and pl is definitely one of them!
the midnight yunners was a band.. for a DE word with good points..nm the one below is that E
fourth row not fourth column, kate. i have the ex words. ty.
EX stage left?
damn...tired
4th row E is on top of the T. ty.
more spooky looks like it should be it...
nope. got that one too and it is from 3rd row or even second row. sorry
main course? soryy tough to figure which one
Oh-- too tired--'Nite all...
not main course. so sorry
think it might be the one who traps
there is an EN 7 - trap a critter, but the 3 8s that come from it don't all come from the same starting E
have those also. sorry kate not from that e.
taht RE 9 sored.. the root (pl) looks good
no. damn!
et4, 4 and et5, 10
that is 3rd row Es. so sorry

volcano
and there it is, sorry m9..you got lost in a flying chog :(
YEAH KATE! THAT WAS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a million thanks! i was going crazy. ty ty ty
Why do I bother
not me... m9 and then tall mike found them... I jsut got in the way and confused everything :(
mike, are you not getting these words?
oops phone call.........
It's easy to misss a post mike, nothing personal, I didnt see m9's either. did see yours though. mkg was probably too tired to see straight.
I live in a home with 9 other people. I'm used to it! LOL
no mike gave you the stats @ 20:57 mkg
FW!!!
you're used to utter chaos m9? I am pretty tired here too and missed a few comments. had ot go back and pick them up after..ugh
I was joking. It seemed ironic that the person who caused the most confusion received the accolades :)
wtg
wtg
whew! back at the flip :-)
congaratulations une... almost missed your FW too!
I will slink off mike.... leave more alert cluers to help
I have 124 to go
we have lost hurshy too. she only had 16 to go...
Don't slink off, TK, no-one who tries to help should feel bad here
especially this late
Peeping in... hi Kate and all!
hi Nat :) Still here Mike. went to make asammcich. tired and hungry though I had a big dinner weird
I always get hungry late at night Kate... sammich sounds good! if nobody needs a clue, I'm off to bed... can't stay up for the flip.
see anything good Nat? we just had a comedy of errors - poor mkg!
yes, I popped in just in time to watch the miscommunications fly :-)
hi all - back from bridge and 20 to go
On a grid with 7 E's, it can be rather difficult to figure out which is the word that starts from 4th row E in the middle...
were you amused Nat? nan came back :)
I was resisting the impulse to "try to help" as I figured I'd just muddy the waters yet further
lol... most people ask for colimns... that was the behinning of the end for me. really tired :/
still looking for that re 7/32 that follows replayed {the movie)
you should have jumped in... i shoulda scrolled back to see what i missed...
Nat or Tall Mike... wan t to take this one? she has been asking for ages
re7/32 - that big screen at the back of the altar in church...
ty nat
did that suffice? great! I couldn't find a way to clue it that didn't violate some sensibilities
Clue or stats for bottom row E pls?
sometimes you just have to spell them out... I hadn't looked that one up, but guarantee I won't remember it next time either
I love obscure nouns
ES 5/10
definitely
Thks much TK
I can never answer those row/column queries as I don't quite get the rules for deciding which letter starts the word (when there's more than one of same letter that might start it)
:D my pleasure TM
It's been a long time since I sweated through chemistry.
*!*~*!* thanks for the help
always starts from top left...horozontally to right then omto the next row Nat... still tricky on this grid think some of the EN ords that are related actually start from different Es... someone said, anyway
that word and variations are frequent fliers here tm
M
congrats nan!!!!
Starting to get the hang of this but must sleep now. Nite all.
thanks for re-explaining (! one of the few "re" words not on the grid today). Hoping this time the info doesn't escape out of one of the many holes in my brain
ty kate -- off to get a snack before the flip
niters TM...it won't take long before some of our "babblets" become second nature (like "the volcano" or "needlecase") many are crosswoed puzzle words
Hubby just turned out all the lights and dog went upstairs. Think they're giving me a hint... night all!
niters nat
It's not the babblets which throw me, it's the words I have not seen for a very long time and the others I never met before.
there are some really weird ones in here and definitely some "nonwords"...
you will encounter a good number of science-y words herefor sure...my last was anestri... checked a few dictionaries and found the probable root, but not the actual word.
HI gang , i am still not getting the re 9 . i dont understand the old movie reference. any other clues pls
is it more of a 7 or 8 ?
not sure what the movie reference was... do you have the EN 7/28 that means toss hats in the ring to compete?
i have an en 7,28 but its the trapping one
it is more of a re7/28 to go in again - the 90 is a plural
It is doing the EN 7 again The root word is an access poibn t - a gate or door could be called an * * * * * way...that is the root, you have to plurasl the root word the do it again for the RE 9
i keep trying that but it wont go \
not quite ursh... the 9 follows the "go in again 7 word"
it is NOT the same word as the re 7 before it
do you have the SE 8/40... chop of the guard's head and you have the basis for the RE 9
i think i know what you are saying but it must be an unfamiliar word the word im thinkiing ends in y
THAT is the clue that we all should have started with!
mama end it with someone making an effort
the root DOES end in a Y yes
re 9 : space capsules coming back into earth's atmosphere and gravitational pull
that 5 letter word that ends in Y must be made a pl...
go back to the SE 8 take off first letter and put RE in front
i got it finally and that is what i thought all along but i must have been misspelling ! TY ONE AND ALL
oh well, I tried -- think I am invisible today
i saw your clue several times nan and that is what i kept trying !
niot invisible nan... a lot of people understood after they get the word... I think it is because of getting hung up on the go in again word and tryingf to make that fit
yay nan for the clue that worked, grats on getting it mamaWA
and i would swear i tried it properly spelled as well ... LOL
ty ty
maybe the gremlins stole it from your list mama? I "lost " a few words in the last couple days - could swear it!
i started late but almost 1/2 wa
Did you find a good snack nan?
taht's good mama!
NIters all <3
nite kate
