I have a story for you. Wednesday we traveled back from vacation in Canada, and of course no food in the house. Went to the store, and while there noticed that the diamond from my wedding ring (34 years Sunday) was GONE.

Yesterday, catching up on laundry, I looked into the washing machine AND THERE WAS MY DIAMOND! Didn't even compute. Thought it was a rhinestone from something of my daughters'. Oh happy day!

Yes, Harry, on Monday night, I think. We were driving out of the park when the storm began. Power was out in town. Then at dinner all of our phones screamed with tornado alerts from the Weather Channel.

Natasha, it was cooler in the woods, but in open areas it was hot. I thought I was going to have heat exhaustion on the ascent up Loft Mtn last Friday. So I stopped after 6.4 miles and let the other 3 continue for another 3.5 miles. They picked me up 2 hours later, but I got to watch mama bear with her yearling twins.
Many trees and branches were damaged from the storm.

A doe came close to up at Big Meadows. Way too docile. And far too many turkey vultures that were waiting for me to die.

The bears were to the right of the trail at Ivy Creek Overlook, maybe 75 feet. Hikers walked past them and many folks took photos. I warned all approaching hikers.

I went up on the trail and took photos. Mama had been lying down while the twins played. Then Mama got up on all 4's and hissed at me. I thought I was going to die and ran off the trail back to the overlook. Mama didn't follow. I about creamed my pants.

Scrabs, a friend of mine was chased by a bear a week or so ago near his hotel. He accidentally came upon her with her cubs. He was scared to death, but escaped unharmed.
I make wide berths around anything that has its young with it... even non scary animals get fierce then

I follow a hiker's blog and she accidentally came across a mountain lion on the trail the other day. They stood there staring each other down for a couple minutes, the girl waved her arms and yelled and the lion just stared, then the lion turned and sauntered off

Best British Short Stories 2017
I have had to resort back to a 6 volume series by Marcel Proust who I am finding a very hard read.
I finieshed one book and nearly through the second one but man it is reall a struggle.
Proust can be a bit of a slog... I'd rather reread something I enjoyed if hard-pressed for reading material. Will the book possibly arrive tomorrow, or will it not come until MOnday now?
The Short stories sounds nice for bedtime reading.
I am hoping it will arrive tomorrow as they said it has been despatched. From amazon.
Nah I will read the Proust books eventually. Will only read them as a last resort though. they cost me nearly £90 for them so will get through them at some point LOL
ah... at least you will be able to put Proust away after today ;)

Yes! finally warmer here. yesterday it got up to 30+ here yesterday...hotter than normal, but not complaining after the horrid winter we endured. trees have started to leaf, but many are still in bud.
Do you have a little used book store there zooz? Maybe it's time to peruse the aisles on a rainy day
The trees here are leafing much later than normal too. Maybe we will get an extended Summer to make up for the crap Winter!
(and the non-existent summer from last year too) Mother Nature has a lot to atone for :)
our forsythia is in full bloom the daffys and tulips are in bloom, lilaces are barely in bud-showing some colour, but it will be a while before they bloom
dandelions are in full bloom though, so the bees are happy

I don't mind bees at all.
they are very hardy - up with the crocus and last to go dormant...I've seen them bloom in snow!
Many people flap their arms when bees are around...But I just let them bee.

we have wasps here, I think there's a nest in the roof somewhere. That will have to be tended to as they somehow find their way into my apartment, so I am constantly having to escort them back outside!
arm flapping is a good way to get yourself stung.. I am not a flapper ;)
What purpose do wasps have apart from being annoying!
they eat dead insects, so they must do something - I could do without them as well... especially in "silly season" when they sting for no reason at the summer's end..ornery critters!

I want to strangle my landlord... he did the first grass mowing of the year a few days ago and ran right over a beautiful clump of daffys in full bloom... he should just pave over the entire yard. He doesn't like animals or birds and doesn't like most fowers. He's an odd duck.
