My son had a sub in Spanish who knew French...
It sends the kids a message that the education system doesn't really take its job, or them, seriously.

I am typing words that I think are there and they are...the joy of massive grids with the right letters.
We had a Japanese exchange student stay with us a couple of years ago. She went to school 240 days a year from 8 am to 6 pm, then home for homework, dinner, and bed. I'm certainly not advocating that as it seems to leave no room for enjoying life, but our school system is still built around the idea that the kids are needed to help around the farm. That's not going to keep our nation competitive in the 21st c.

Most of what I am typing is working
we are having an awful problem with work completion in the 8th grade this year. They just ARENT doing their work, and they dont care. A full 30% of the eighth grade is failing, because of this.
And you have to ask yourself, what will be with them? And with our economy and society? We are ripe for takeover by some more ambitious and driven society.
we have told the parents, we have laid it out for the kids, we have done all we can from our end. they are not doing the work, and they dont care
That is so tragic, Trif. Lack of work ethic, ambition, etc will not lead to success in adulthood.
It doesn't seem impossible to me that someday everything in the economy will be flipped and we will be the ones manufacturing goods for low pay to be shipped to the rich countries in Asia.
I think that is the way the powers that currently be want things. An uneducated populace is MUCH easier to herd. Like sheep.
