so7
(apologetic offering)
lol
It's actually spelled Wile E.
Clues are up
et 7
guess I should have said wilie c/6
Nope, it's "Wile E. C/6"
E is his middle initial
Thank you Dr. God :) Thanks Lickety! :) Good night and happy babbling everyone :)
whatever -- still guessing it was the first word for a lot of us
Hi all
lol, nan, I was here a good five minutes and didn't even see the chog chat about it, never mind the word itself. It's too early and too hot to concentrate.
sooey
oh, crap, sorry. I'm going to go and wake up a bit and come back to this.
crashing - back after golf tomorrow
actually my first word was ea4/6 - my dear departed Hubby's nickname. ♥
but thanks for all the co6 and 7 clues, lol
how does a person acquire such a nickname?
depends on whose story you believe... at first he told me it was because he was so ea4-going... later his friends gave me a slightly different version, haha
lol
Oh, rbud ... is that why you married him?
Juniperberet ... so hot, so early in the day?
haha, might be why he let me catch him. But he was a one-woman man once he made up his mind, which his friends also told me early on. Point in his favor.
A keeper ...
thirty plus years together, hard to adjust.
16 left...
You were lucky, rbud ... well, lucky, and both working at it.
dreaded 14
did everyone else leave?
hi everyone, just home from bridge
hello flosey :)
Hi there, flosey et al
we have called all but one of the 7s, but not the 8 or 9, fyi
sh-9
oh peach, you're so talented!
yay, i found it, thank you!
Just lucky, hurshy.
lucky to have been born so talented, yes, of course
;)
Si 7/8
yay, thank you sue!!!
My pleasure!
I'm tired now....back later. Blessings y'all.
me too Peach, to tired for this, just home from an evening of bridge. BB in the morning, happy babbling folks
funny how the si7 comes from one S, and the si8 comes from the other S.
good hint, rbud!
odd word, must be a mineral or element? can't get the def. to open from here. googling...
ah, a rock.
Yep, and not in the regular dictionary either. Sometimes this enable version of the language drives me nutz!
so how's your hubby doing?
He's doing ok. Moving forward with his programming very slowly, I think it scares him a bit
I imagine so. Must be pretty different, too, if it's working as planned.
They started him at 1 volt, and gave him permission to go to 2 volts. It took him over 2 days to try 1.1, and he doesn't want to mess with it. He did have a bad time Sat night, but I think most of that was from being over-tired
He says it's an amazing feeling
Tapering meds isn't easy either, so I'm not pushing. I have absolutely no idea what he feels inside, but I did see all the hairs on his arm stand on end when they pushed the limit on Friday. WEIRD!
anything "invasive" is always scary.
For sure! And, I think they were testing placement of electrodes on Friday too - seems the surgeon was very precise with his placement, which made both of us happy.
is it a scheduled thing? or an as-needed thing, like when he thinks it's needed? I know nothing about it, really, just what I've seen you say in here over the last week or so.
or maybe automatic...?
We left with him at 1 volt on Fri, a max of 2 volts until his next appt on the 11th
He can choose
There's an "antenna" that he puts over his implanted computer, and plugs the antenna into a little thing like a flip phone, and can raise or lower the voltage. It's much more complex than I ever knew.
I think he's slightly afraid of it right now! He'll settle in and accept the technology before we go back, I'm sure. I will be doing some hand holding, with much love.
amazing what they can do. I recall my mother-in-law telling my husband she could just call a number, put the phone on her chest, and somehow her pacemaker communicated with something at her doctor's that could tell if it was working okay, or even needed a new battery.
I know!! I truly am amazed. I knew the general principles of the implant, and we did a lot of research together, including talking to others who had the DBS. But until I witnessed the first programming and testing, I really only had a bare inkling of what they can do. I guess they keep it simple, but I'm retired IT...
well, that has to help. makes it not quite as much of a mystery as it would be to someone like me.
Yes, it helps a lot. I think hubs is a bit baffled - he won't touch his controller without me looking over his shoulder, but he is learning that pushing a button won't hurt, that he can always push the other button that takes it down if he doesn't like the way it feels. He has only used it once, but has a stressful situation to deal with tomorrow, so he can deal with learning his controller "deal-a-ma-gig" after that stress is over.
They make it so a person can't hurt their body by limiting what can be done at the beginning.
slogging through the 61 SW words, wow
S words, I meant
darn fingernails...
just finished that slog, 9 left. Somehow I missed 2 E words, and
I didn't even notice, I'm grid-blind
Yay, finished! Good chatting with you, rbud!
Okay quick first run through and have 49 words left for later. Happy babbling everyone!
Congrats, Kamanjah!
Thanks! Have a great day!
congrats, Kam! ((hugs)) to you both.
l don't understand why some Japanese words are accepted and others, not
like sensei, shiso and more
because ruby, like ketchup, tycoon, fjord, gourmet and corgi and hundreds of others, the chosen words had no counterpart in English but were in common use. Make sense?
That's what makes English the most "flexible" language in the world!
It is not exactly that simple. The Enable Word List just randomly chooses what words it will include and what words it will not. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.
As far as the adopted Japanese and Indian words go, I have found them to be in common use in the US, often with those of military or international business backgrounds. I've lived and worked in both countries and have a working knowledge of Japanese as well as the Dravidian and some Indo-Euro vocabularies. "shiso" is known by Americans who like Japanese food, especially if they make it with that spice (or herb, not sure which).
Thanks for the memories Ruby. You made me hungry in the middle of the night but that's okay since I'm at work. Stopping at 120 words for my last break. Night all.
Which, I think, was Ruby's point. Those words are familiar and used by more than the Japanese, and yet they are not included in this list. Very strange.
And to broaden my horizons, I just looked up shiso. Looks like a kind of spicy mint. I bet it is good in certain dishes.
