7:08 am

Anyone here?

7:08 am

Good morning, scrabs.

7:08 am

Hi Bea. How are you today?

7:10 am

I'm up and moving. Always a good day.

7:10 am

Hope you are well too.

7:10 am

I just greyed out the top row. Biggest move of my day.

7:10 am

I will soon shop for my mother and visit her.

7:10 am

=)

7:12 am

I'm so glad my mom has moved in with us. She is doing so much better. And I enjoy having her around.

7:15 am

I couldn't live with my mother. She is quite difficult. My brother lives at home and can care for her thus far.

7:17 am

I'm lucky that she is a pleasant person to be around. She will fuss at me every now and again, but I fuss at her too.

7:18 am

My mother can be bossy, demanding, and ungrateful and that has worsened as she has gotten older. I do my best to be patient.

7:19 am

I'm sure that is a difficult position.

7:20 am

It is at times.

Hi again. May I have stats for the E in the fourth row, fourth column, below the H?

7:28 am

en4/4

Gosh, I feel stupid now. Thanks!

7:29 am

Sometimes our eyes don't see the obvious.

I think I tried every other conceivable order of those four letters. Except for the obvious one

don;t answer. I think i made my point. i will not argue.

do what you want but leave me out of it. it pays to do the research before speaking.

and fireworks! good luck all

every monument was vandalize, including the privately funded museum which is below someone's home. and the statue of the first viking to land here was pulled off its base and thrown into the river.

i know when i protested, i did ot hide mu face and was ready to get arrested. i did not cower and run or riot.

5:14 pm

How did the handcuffs match with your shoes?

huh?

5:15 pm

just a joke.. sorry

who would think of that?

5:15 pm

I thought it is was pretty funny, ruru.

probably was not wearing any, given the era

aybe those buffalo sandals.. the ones you had to soak for days before you wore them.

5:20 pm

vandalism is really a serious crime.. we have a lot of it out here

jeese... fe5 and he5/22! manana

they vandals equated columbus with mussolini. how will we learn if we erase history because it is not in line with what we believe now?

ok sorry , rhetorical. see you tomorow.

5:34 pm

lots of columbus monuments have been vandalized over the years, every year, plenty of first nations groups deface columbus in the southwest. columbus is a problematic figure, he was a great explorer, he was also a slave trader whose men committed atrocities. erasing romantic myth and owning the truth behind history is perhaps not a terrible thing.

5:37 pm

rife

5:37 pm

oops

5:47 pm

that said, 500 year old crimes are not the direct responsibility of the children of 25 generations since. they do deserve to be recognized correctly for what they were and individuals like columbus need to be lowered from their plinths and measured against their deeds but those deeds occurred half a millennia ago, though the repercussion of his crimes echoed through history. columbus was a monster but he lived in the context of monstrous times, conquest, slavery, genocide were not seen as crimes just entrepreneurial growth.

6:03 pm

Apparently forty year old crimes are not the responobility of the repulican senare either

selective crime, rewards instead of punishment. professor blasey-ford still can't go home because of constant death threats. and apparentlly the viking statue was tossed into the rive by philadelphia eagles fans in advance of the minnesota vikings football game. some vandals have different priorities.

Hello folks

Oh no... another grid full of vowels - espeecially Es... *wail*

8:41 pm

Hi ori. How are you doing today?

8:41 pm

Hi ori ;)

8:41 pm

Hi Nef1

8:42 pm

Hi Kate; how are you doing?

8:43 pm

Was doing not too bad until I took a food look at the grid - I only checked on the size earlier... and you Nef, how's it going?

8:43 pm

Doing OK, Nef. Back from a mini-vacation. How are you/

8:43 pm

Hiya Kate.

8:43 pm

Doing okay also. If this dang rain would ever quit; I'd be doing great.

8:45 pm

waves to ori... must dive in and see how bad this grid reeally is... we're getting pretty soggy out this way too Nef :( BUT tomorrow is suposed to clear and 2 days of 80ish!

8:45 pm

Got a little snow in the high desert yesterday

8:45 pm

I saw posts from Howie... the white stuff, indeed! :(

8:49 pm

Yeah, there was snow up north in MN too last Friday; at least it only lasted a day; but this is the beginning of October, so it's nearly a month early for up there.

8:50 pm

other friends in Minn are posting about all the rain too... you guys all need row boats!

8:51 pm

at least *we* don't (we live on a hill about 100 ft above the nearest lake) but it's getting very soaked and very depressing here.

8:51 pm

it's too early for the s word in most parts still... (she said hopefully)

8:52 pm

I don't know how you folks that live with snow do it. An occasional visit is enough for me :

8:53 pm

I have the grey skies and quacking like a duck blues too Nef... tomorrow's sun will be much needed for the soul. YOu're staying on the side of the cold front thoguh, aren't you?

8:53 pm

They are talking about maybe up to 3 inches of snow this next week around Grand Forks I heard.

8:53 pm

!!!!!! We just decide that we are tougher than the snow ori, LOL

8:54 pm

Yes. "They" say we will have a nice day Wednesday; then back to rain again. :-/

8:54 pm

Ugh! poor Nef... I'll be moaning with you :(

8:55 pm

When we are "young & able" there is so much to do in the snow & cold. And we have 4 beautiful seasons too. As we age, we just don't know any better, ori

8:56 pm

hahaha,....

8:57 pm

At least I don't live up near Grand Forks anymore; I moved south for the warmer climate of MPLS & St. Paul 45 years ago! ;-)

8:57 pm

I was on a high, steep, rocky dirt road when it started to snow. Fortunately my Subaru plowed through it :D

8:58 pm

Where were you, ori?

8:59 pm

You're a lot milder there, aren't you? Have RR friends in the Forks, they're not amused. Those Subarus... people swear by them! Good thing for you ori - first snow is always tough.

9:02 pm

Up North in that area of MN, the temp is often double digits below zero; and the wind makes it worse. Down here the humidity is much more noticeable & if it dips below zero here it doesn't stay there for days & days.

9:02 pm

I was visiting a ghost town (Brodie) high up in the desert mountains.

9:03 pm

By yourself? Sounds interesting; but not something I'd care to do alone.

9:05 pm

I love that the bodies of water help keep us milder, but we pay with humidity too.

9:05 pm

My friend was with me. It was interesting.

9:05 pm

Visiting ghost towns is fun but I prefer someone with me too - jsut in case I go exploring and fall through a floor or something...

9:07 pm

It has an interesting history. At one time 10,000 miners lived there. It is very isolated and can be a very hostile environment.

9:08 pm

Net! Still original, or has it become a bit of a touristy thing?

9:08 pm

That's exactly how I feel about exploring too, Kate. If I go places with lots of people; but a ghost town sounds deserted. ;-)

9:08 pm

That's a lot of peop0le for a remote area back then.. assuming gold rush?

9:09 pm

There were people there :D It is a state historic park.

9:09 pm

That does sound interesting. How did you pick Brodie?

9:10 pm

Oh - that is neat!

9:11 pm

Huh! Now I need to check it out! (My family always jokes that if there's any historic marker or town or history anything; the car automatically turns in there!)

9:12 pm

Go, go, aNef... before the season turns!

9:12 pm

Where to next ori?

9:12 pm

There were gold and silver mines there, yes. We were nearby in Lone Pine.

9:13 pm

we're going to have to change your name to ORE

9:13 pm

The park is closed mid-October to May. No way to get in there in the winter. It is at 8700 feet on a dirt road.

9:14 pm

I'll have to go look at a map when i get through this grid.

9:14 pm

It won't be a trip this season; I'm saving up my money for more family trips to MT. right now. (My baby brother has ALS & it's progressing very rapidly.)

9:14 pm

Hi ruru :)

9:29 pm

There were actually young girl twins in residence. Added to the whole experience.

9:31 pm

I shouldn't be laughing...

9:31 pm

that movie was fantastic

9:31 pm

loved it too!

9:31 pm

That sent shivers down my back, ori. Did you or your friend reserve that place?

9:31 pm

I started watching it this morning and have it paused half-way. It really is Kubric at his best :D

9:32 pm

My friend's brother was with us - he reserved it. Everything else within 60 miles was booked up.

9:34 pm

Was this the closing of it for the season?

9:35 pm

It is a very rural area with few lodging options. Most of the lodging was full due to the film festival we were attending.

9:36 pm

Ahh!. okay then.

9:40 pm

Here I was thinking that it's a ghost town, lots of people, scary B&B, up in the mountains, etc. It sounded very weird

9:41 pm

I am not sure where lone pine is

9:43 pm

No, we weren't staying in the ghost town :D That was a side trip.

9:44 pm

Lone Pine is south of Bishop on 395. We had to stay in Independence - about 15 mi North.

9:44 pm

So, how was the film festival?

9:45 pm

I was so busy reading the puns I missed the details!

9:46 pm

I was prepared to hate it. I am not a huge fan of Westerns. But it was really enjoyable. Visited a couple of interesting museums and went on three tours of the area highlighting locations where movies were made (lots of lots of movies made out there) and a geologic tour that was pretty interesting.

9:47 pm

And visited Manzanar.

9:48 pm

You've been very busy! Sounds great... lots to see

9:48 pm

HOw many films did you see?

9:49 pm

(I'm curious because I can't imagine sitting through more than 1 or 2 westerns)

9:52 pm

Bishop is near Joshua Tree park?

9:52 pm

We only saw two :D One was the first movie John Wayne did. Sooooo cheesy.

9:52 pm

LOL! :-D

9:52 pm

God john wayne movies were the worst

9:54 pm

Bishop is pretty far north from Joshua Tree. Much closer to Death Valley.

9:54 pm

Oh

9:54 pm

I agree, ru

9:54 pm

The uncle who raised me thought they were the best, however (I think it was that generation)

9:54 pm

I love Death Valley. So beautiful

9:55 pm

Yep, Nef. My friend's brother and I were the youngest people around. And we are not youngsters :D

9:55 pm

My sister & brother in law used to be park rangers there in the wintertime; they were in Glacier Nat'l park in the summer months (this was back in the 1970's

9:56 pm

Death Valle is amazing. I try to visit at least every 3 years.

9:56 pm

there are 2 wa 4/8s

10:03 pm

Kate make the plural as if the word ended in the sometimes vowel.

10:04 pm

Sorry, phan, I don't have those yet, but will start looking for them

10:04 pm

ty very much phand! and hello :)

10:04 pm

missing your SH words ... looking now

I did have the sh after the grave; I didn't have the grave!

10:08 pm

Well, what is the SH after the grave, Please

10:08 pm

a dog

10:08 pm

I have a 6/21 that is a girl's name... esp a British lass

10:09 pm

miniature collie

10:09 pm

but the definition is lacking. Think of a knight in armor with a protector plate & leave off the last letter

10:09 pm

I have that as a 7

I have the girls name, I need the one after it

10:09 pm

I have the dog as a 7

10:09 pm

the other is like the rolling Stones. GImme Sh6

the 7/32 is easier to clue...like a miniature collie.. then the 6/21 bfore the doggie is just making a different single vowel for the last letter

10:10 pm

can't believe i just found the footwear.

10:10 pm

thanks for the 6, now for the 5/12 after the grave.

10:11 pm

which is the grave?

10:18 pm

10:19 pm

Where did you hear of it, ru? (I pretty much only listen to MPR & BBC these days; it's less depressing)

10:19 pm

ty ruru... I know that word... musta mistyped when monkeying ;(

10:19 pm

it was in the news.. seems to be centered around minneapolis

10:19 pm

10:19 pm

I don't have the LI 5/10 either phand

10:20 pm

10:20 pm

10:20 pm

the aa5 is that babblet all vowels mostly

10:21 pm

aa 5/10 is a frequent babble, it's a shrub

10:21 pm

that's hedging your bets nef

10:22 pm

Ru, I'll try to Google it & see what it is

10:22 pm

thanks, Nef.

10:22 pm

Not straight up...

10:22 pm

hmmm

10:23 pm

it's very twisty phan

10:24 pm

ha... thought you were talking about the LI 5/10...

10:28 pm

I gotta crawl into bed.. night folks

10:29 pm

nighters ruru... pretty early to head off to the land of Nod?

10:29 pm

Ru, it's acute flaccid meyolitis; and they say it's possible that a a "polio-like virus" (which is new) may be causing it. About 100 children in 34 states have come down with it since 2014; 6 of them around southern MN.

10:30 pm

myelitis, not meyolitis

10:32 pm

That is really not good news ;(

10:33 pm

Yeah, Kate; but so far it seems that there's more than 1 virus that may be causing it.

10:34 pm

I will have to go looking for articles... it'snot on the tv news and not in my feed yet.

10:36 pm

hang on & I'll post a couple I was reading. It seems to be not a new virus; (maybe)

10:36 pm

Got the BBC news on now form PBS... and must find something to nibble on. BBS still 10 fishies to find

10:39 pm

ty Nef, assuming that the link is for an article.. PC still sliowly loading... wondering if it's because polio is so little heard of now that there are to many immunisation gaps and variants are arising?

10:40 pm

And Kate, I still have 20 words to find.(I was making a pattern in my tile stats grid again

10:41 pm

giot them both on tab to read after nibbles and news ty so much for fetching them up for me!

10:41 pm

11:02 pm

waiting for fancy shmacy garlic butter to thaw enough to cut a hunk off :)

11:03 pm

11:12 pm

Actually, I didn't open Babble until somewhere around 8 PM

11:13 pm

LOL... and you believed him when he said he was going?

11:14 pm

I was very late too... you were here, but hadn't chatted in a while, and i thought there wasn't anyone lurking...

11:14 pm

No, 1 person wearing velcro shoes in a house is more than enough I'd think (esp. at our ages!)I'll just work at this & get it untied

11:14 pm

hello 77 to go

11:15 pm

So; it took us somewhere around 3, 3 1/2 hr to finish? With all these dang vowels I wasn't sure I'd finish!

11:16 pm

Hi harp!

11:16 pm

Hi, harp. It's a lovely grid today. Not too hard, & definitely not too easy either

11:18 pm

I finally got my shoelace un tied now! What a day!

11:18 pm

8:41 was my arrival (9:41, my time) so definitely not putting up any speed records - but I had a lot of fun along the way with the puns :)

11:19 pm

it was punny for a while there! :-)

11:19 pm

Not a lot in the critter depatrment either...

11:20 pm

haha... you know if ruru smells a pun opening, he'll pop in :)

11:27 pm

that was tough Nef, I couldn't figure out a clue that made sense for "on the receiving end of *ET* "

11:29 pm

Well,I thought the Enable dictionary definition was bad.

11:29 pm

I forgot there were N's in two corners. That was my problem

11:30 pm

huh... just looked it up.

11:30 pm

11:40 pm

li+ cons + 2 different vowels

11:41 pm

11:42 pm

While I'm looking for my last 6 words...do any of you use a pressure cooker? (electronic or stove top?)

11:43 pm

4 to go

11:43 pm

I used to use a stove top one back in the day when they'd sometimes blow ;) Others were talking about the new countertop ones a while ago.

11:44 pm

FOUR.....

11:44 pm

I have a stove top one I use

11:44 pm

I've been looking into them...

11:44 pm

I use both. Stove top mainly to do my canning; electric one (instant pot) to do cooking. Love it.

11:44 pm

They do make cooking "real" food much faster.

11:45 pm

Personally, if you want a new gadget; I think an instant pot would be fabulous

11:45 pm

Hi mcurl :)

11:45 pm

Go, Go Kate!

11:45 pm

I've been checking Consumer Reports and think that's the way to go, too...stove top for canning and electric for quick meails

11:46 pm

Hi curl. How's school this year?

11:46 pm

11:55 pm

I am trying to stick with my belief that "it is what it is" and "it's all good". Everybody deserves a chance to prove themselves and I will give that to my new supervising teacher. It will just be quite a change when my dear friend is no longer my teaching partner. I will make every effort to find or assist in finding the best person to fill her shoes and keep our program moving in an upward direction. The students deserve nothing less.

11:56 pm

Admirable mindset for yourslef and the program

11:57 pm

Must wander to the kitchen...

11:57 pm

brb

11:58 pm

Good night all.

11:58 pm
