Hi jane and Liz :) Final shakeout for decluttering sprite?
We're Ok thanks - I've been reading all about the progress on your house, Sprite. Sounds brilliant.
hi
not as much decluttering this weekend, as making the house look pretty and clean for the people who come to look at it.
thanks Liz. It is a big adventure!
great to hear you are both okay.
Good luck with the house sale, Sprite! I hope you find a buyer quickly and can get on with your plans!

a rock with nerves
Busy day and great movie for relaxing later - maybe you need a little catnap?
bit shaky sprite. but advice from June was just relax and let it happen. if the "other" family are there June said not to let them drive me away.
Yes, true sprite, but she only has to keep in mind that she changed his nappies.... doesn't seem so stressful then.
if they start up, i am just excuse myself by saying i need the toilet. she said they'll quickly learn it's them which make me go potty so frequently.
good advice from June. And as I said yesterday, my advice is to simply be yourself. Firstly, because you are an awesome person and a very loving mother and grandmother. And secondly, because if things go south and your son cannot connect to you at all, better it be because of who you really are, than because of your trying to be who you think he wants you to be.
exactly sprite.
what sprite said.
and if the other family is giving you shit, either do the toilet thing or very very kindly say: "What an odd thing to say. If I didn't know better, I'd think you were being unpolite to me." And smile like they are your best friends.
It might have made more sense if they had invited you for luncheon and the other side for dinner or vice versa... I hope it will be jsut the few of you. Would love to see you connect with your son properly again. and I would definitely be thinking of inviting them to your place as well. Did you decide on a gift for your son yet?
inpolite*
impolite* Well hell, I don't know.
What an odd thing to say might be enough... that way you look the agrieved one rather than going on the (very polite) offensive - hsouldn't be seen as an instigator. It gives them leverage. Ask "what would Lilibet do?" Utter grace and politeness works almost every time... and cart before horse, you don't even know if they'll be there when you are.
no gift forhim, just a card with a loving message. haven't given any of the boys a gift except on special occasions. and ditto from them. as for inviting them to my/our place... lolll.... ask sprite about the saga of the kitchen...
:D
im rather than un for common usage, but think both are correct.
That was ages ago rose... think positive!
thanks Kate
It's very easy to forget that you aren't a native speaker.... astounding capacity for language!
is it not correct to have im- or in- before a p word?
I could go look uit up...
thanks for the compliment :) I often make mistakes like this one though, sigh.
then again, it is UNpleasant isn't it?
english is nothing if not inconsistent.
The prefix un is commonly used to negate a word, but is is quite rare with words that start with the letter p; the prefix im seems more common. For example: Impossible Implausible Imperfect But there are certain p words whose opposite is prefixed with un, such as: Unpolluted Unpolished Unplugged
and unpolite IS a word.
hey sprite, i still have to stop and think hard which prefix to use.. lolll.... how about INput kate?
glad to hear it. And thanks for the info. Will try and remember.
Now we know ;) TY rose.... we all use the "rules" without thought to them...
There is a rule, but it’s only of value to somebody who knows which language the root word came from, so it’s really no help at all for most of us. In general, words take un- when they are of English (Germanic) origin and in- if they come from Latin. (The forms im-, il-, and ir- are variations on in-.) Apart from that, there’s really no good guide to which one you should choose. You’re just going to have to stick to learning them by rote.
imput, umpleasant, impossible :D
using the one that sounds most common. But the problem (for me) is, that once I start to doubt, every option starts to look and sound odd, lol.
Problematic cases Throughout the history of English, there had been a vigorous battle going on – despite this rule! For centuries, words in both versions, like inability and unability have been co-existing (the first one being the nowadays correct version). Most of these cases are cleared by now, with definite lexicon entries that tell you which form to use.
Yet, there are still a few pairs that haven’t been assigned an ultimate correct version, for example inarguable and unarguable. It becomes even more problematic when different prefixes are used for the noun and corresponding adjectives, a famous example being uncivil, the adjective formed using the “un-†prefix, and incivility, the thus formed noun taking “in-†instead.
gotta love english
* alll copy/pasted.. insert your own quote marks ;)
interesting, thanks Kate
a lot of the words jsut sound "wrong"/awkward when the other prefix is used..
whacky language for sure...oh! I have a funny meme I will have to go find...

Hello dcseain! How are you doing? Welcome to the chog.
a no4 is a person, place or thing. :)
Good dcseain!I'm glad you learned something in grammar school! Won't even ask you about non-countable no4/45s
LOL Yay Schoolhouse Rock :D
How come Schoolhouse Rocks did not teach us words like that co 8/45, both ps 5/12 words and that mi7/32 word?
mi7/32 i heard a lot growing up, as a not-so-polite way to refer to a group of haughty girls.
Actually, I meant to say my7/40 word, not mi 7/32 word
ah, that one was a doozy. i'm guessing British spelling.
This whole grid was a doozy! I have been stuck on last 2 words all night! How many words do U have left dcseain?
looked up the co8 -- mesothelioma is such. i still learn a lot playing this game. :)
In6 Vacuum Oil Company LOL
