hi sprite
I'm off to bed -- good night everyone :)
hi nan
Hi sprite! *hugs*
*hugs Kam* Good evening, dear one, how are you doing? How is the roof situation and how is Michael's dad?
Tree guy is coming tomorrow to get it out of here. Yay, because another big storm is coming.
nasty, Kam :(
Haven't talked with dad in a couple of days, he was better on Sat. Michael has been having some "off" time the past couple of days
neediness and readiness are phantoms? Oh man.
good for him, Kam. It can't be easy on him.
Now, I'm praying the roof won't leak! The adjuster said there was some shingle damage, but she didn't feel we needed emergency measures.
*fingers crossed*
cooee and g'day {{{{{spritey}}}}}} {{{{{{kam}}}}}}}}

Hi liz
Hi
am
Oops! Hi Kam
all good here apart from HOT HOT HOT.
*hugs rose* Hello my darling, good to see you are doing well.
Humid here but not overly hot.
*hugs Liz!*
better than well. been to the dentist, only needed a clean. *smug grin*
been to eye doc. need new glasses. first pair in 8 years, so not too bad
been to GP. she remembered the colonoscopy. mwah... i don't want it...
and all don did was sit there with this silly grin on his face. GP and her nurse were laughing so hard...
Good news on the dentist - I need a lot of fillings. Have to go to a new dentist too...dread.
I still haven't been pushed into having the scope, thank goodness.
how are you sprite? have your feet touched the floor yet? i think this was to be you last of the very busy weeks. but then you are moving earlier than expected.
we are busy as can be. Am beyond tired. Feb 1 cannot come fast enough. Rob and I had our first big fight due to moving stress last week, not fun. But worked it out and now we are better than ever.
you poor kids. it is very stressful for you both. but honey, your pain levels must be through the roof. how are you coping?
on willpower mostly. And taking short breaks, even lying down, whenever I can
good girl.... and take regular analgesia, even if you think you don't need it.
oh, I have great news! We had the new years meeting for my volunteer job yesterday. One of the big lotteries in the netherlands donates part of its revenue to worthy causes, among which is our organisation. Turned out that the management had put in my name as possible recipient... and I got it! They are giving me a laptop. Am chuffed.
Awesome, Sprite. That’s great.
oh wow, sprite. how incredible! but you earned it, over and over
also got a speech that made me blush for hours.
Congrats on the award, Sprite. I'm sure you put in a lot of effort.
*giggle* wish i had a shirt that colour sprite... hang on... i do....
lol
BBL. Have a good day / evening / night.
enjoy your evening lizgirl. xoxox to you both.

Fireflies. Have a good day, all.
*hugs Kam*
WTG KAMANJAH !!
oh yes and WTG!
fireflies for me as well. Gonna walk Terra and then get on with organising stuff. *hugs* my darling friend. Enjoy your relatively painfree time.
sprite, we have started looking at accommodation for next May. i need to answer your last email...i guess. would you like me to wait until the move is over? i really do not want to add to your list of concerns at the moment.
WTG SPRITE !!
honey, mail me, and do not worry about anything. I will answer whenever I can, and if I need to find out stuff locally, just let me know.

okay... tomorrow i only have the hairdresser. so will do it then. btw, my next infusion is already booked.
Okay first run through and I have 81 left to find. Have not found the 9 yet. Although I am not a big drinker of wine I did find one of my fave white wines in the grid. 1983 year is the best for that wine in my opinion.
Will come back later to see if I can find any more words. Happy babbling everyone! Make that exactly 80 words left now.
Can anyone give me stats for that R in the top row, second column? Please?
ri5.20
Matty Ri5.20 . Ri* where Christ the redeemer is + ja* of jam
Ah hah! I was hung up on that H. Thanks!

hi lyn
oops
these weekend-size grids on a workday!
Morning, dan.
morning
morning, everyone
Morning, welki.
nice grid - going quickly for me today
(so far - lol)
hi welk, how are you today?
ok, thanks. how about you? how's the car treating you in this weather?
ask me after this weekend. although i am ore likely to stay home and not test it.
Morning greetings, Babblers. Eek. Another chunky grid.
i hear you - if you don't have to go out in it, why chance it
it goes quickly, judi.
Morning, judi.
hij udi
ah, you are getting the hang of this not working thing ;)
that's been my practice since i had a bad accident on ice a million years ago
(heh - during the ice age)
:O
hello friends.
Morning, trif.
getting ready for mid-year exams here next week - it's SO serious here, omg.....
Too much testing in schools these days, imho.
Sounds like you're a little testy over the subject, Bea.
You are correct, judi. =)
One of the reasons I left teaching.
my 1st word was the 9 LOL
Harrumph. Yesterday was busy in the office. Today it's dead. The walking dead.
Zombies
And it's too freakin' warm in the office. Must be all the decomposition.
Down to 112 words. That did go rather fast.
It has been a fun grid.
to be fair, these are actual tests that have to do with each subject, not some dreaded state things
hello
Trif?

oops
I already have that word
Just off facetime with a three year old...I bit dizzy...=)
lol bzzzn
was it a good conversation bzz?
hi mlf, sorry, was talking to a colleague about a lovely student
trif did you hear Carol Channing died?
Always fun.
oh no! I can't really get updates at school. Just today?
yes she was a few weeks shy of her 98th birthday
I was being serious (for once) bzzn - this student actually IS lovely.
god bless Carol.....she had a GREAT run.
trif one of my favorites. hubby and I were saying though we thought she had died a long time ago
last column A?
at 4/4
hi luv ty
hi MLF yw
I find myself saying that a lot when people die "Oh! I thought she was dead!" usually followed by Beloved saying "she is."
strange isn't it. I hadn't heard her name in years!
I'm glad broadway remains vibrant and exciting. I don't really care for the "movies into musicals" being churned out (Sponge bob? NO) but I do love that it still exists at all.
trif sponge bob. king kong?
etc
shrek, sponge bob, frozen, aladdin, I could go on and on. I make an exception for Lion King, because Julie Taymer made it something FANTASTIC and new and so original
I saw beauty and the beast on stage it was wonderful!
I will have to take your word for it....
aw 6/30 please?
trif that is one to see on stage.. I have always wanted to see the Lon King on stage. I have seen parts of and I love the music have it on cd
it is a tricky, tricky business going from stage to screen and vice versa - Chorus line, rent, the Fantasticks - AMAZING on stage, failures on screen. Some exceptions, of course - Chicago, Les Miserables.....again, it's tricky
awnest should be a word. as in, "let's be awnest."
without aw4, luv

lolol pastor J - sure is in Boston, fah shooah!
thanks Bea
I kept trying the monster ending
trif and unless they do it right either way its going to stay that way unfortunately
I saw into the woods the movie. it wasn't bad but I felt it was a bit dark
luv am still doing that haven't found any words yet with that ending

ah, THAT monster! thanks!
Common clue around here, pastor.

He wo5.20 at the fireworks.
Breaking news, for those who care.... Prime Minister Theresa May has lost an MPs’ vote on her Brexit deal by 230 votes - the largest defeat for a sitting government in history. MPs voted by 432 votes to 202 to reject the deal, which sets out the terms of Britain's exit from the EU on 29 March.
shock bichon
i just shared that on FB, Google+, and Twitter. Crushing defeat for May LOL
clue the we 5/6 someone please?
Yarp. But I doubt Corbin's table of no confidence will go anywhere - the DUP nor the Conservatives will be willing to risk losing their seats.
Carol Channing died today if anyone cares
I just did, MLF - 1.52, before my breaking news
MLF: To get married for the first three letters, and the first part of the Israeli airline
what i saw yesterday indicated they wouldn't need either, but we'll see.

Hi Trif
hello origami! are you making some headway with this biggie?
I found the 9 all by my self, so feeling smug. Figures, it describes me....
About half-way. Probably won't finish today.
You should feel good! I had the words all around it, but didn't extend to the 9. DUH.
Take your DUH back Champ. Maybe those who don't feel it, don't see it. : D
:) It's funny what you see and don't see in a grid. I have 24 left, and JUST found some je words that made me feel really DUH-ish!

Sorry, don't have it gumpunk.
hello, if anyone is around who was around last night when i was having a rough time... i'm doing ok today. not like there is no chance of further upset, but, hopefully a reduced chance.
hello. lt's 4am andl just woke up feom bd dream with terible gastric re"dflux.
oh ruby, i have been there many times, i am so sorry to hear that
l'm back in bed, "eating crysrallized Ginger and with my dogs could make me tea&
have you got some pepcid or something?
wish*
l really need a cup o tea but it's to coold to go downstairs
i keep a bottle of chewable antacids by my bed for the occasions when i miseat
how cold?
lt's -éC outside and not much warmer in the fitchen because Rufe goes out during the night and didn't close the door
Probably 35°F in kitcheh
i keep thick socks in a pocket bed thing, then i just got this GREAT new pair of slippers to put over those, then i have warm fuzzy pants and two sweatshirts hung on hooks on my bedroom door
so that i can pretty easily be warm if necessary to get up
l Don't like to go downstairs at night bexause l'm afraid of falling
ahhh well there i canna help ye
you'd need one o' they powered chairs that goes up and down the stairs which i imagine are expensive
(((hurshy))) not playing today, just wandered in to see if you are doing any better
That sounds like what l wear during the day so i try not to get up 'tiil sçomeone is here to pmake a fire
RUBYFOOOOOOO!!!!!! *bounce bounce bounce* are you well? Is it cold in France right now?
thank you, i was just saying in case anyone was here that i am ok today. there is not zero chance of repeat upset, but hopefully reduced chance.
hello, rubyfoo, stidmama, and hurshy :)
I see that it is... *facepalm* I really should read the chog before I post....
I am glad you are okay today, hurshy. You are one of my favorite babble-people.
it's ok, i'm not someone who minds repeating once or twice :)
Ah, seain.... how's the snow?
if i have to give the same clue like 10 times, then i start to get tired of it, but otherwise, it doesn't bother me
what happened to you, Hurshy?
l'm never on at this time of ight
work stuff
we got a bout a foot where i live, an there's ice under it. What fun.
the principal, who did not get back from the christmas holiday break until yesterday, though the rest of us started back up on the 2nd, this morning said to me, "after several weeks away, i forgot just how dysfunctional this school is" (he is new this year)
no snow here but very cold
that doesn't bode well for the school year!
l quit teaching because of the awful administration
liens
sorry
I am so sorry, hurshy -- my school isn't perfect (what school is?) but our admins are supportive and my colleagues are kind even when we have differences of opinion. (((hugs)))
I prefer it when there is snow, although a foot of snow on top of ice is a bit .... excessive!
we often get layers of snow and ice.
That must make you flurryious
it's cause it's a so small private school - there are special issues with that
That's wwhat Binghamton was like
true -- small communities have different challenges
LOL ruru! Hello friend
yay cat went away. going to check dryer BRB
Later seain, stay warm!
I am heading out for good tonight... have a good rest of your week all. (((hugs and choclits as desired))) *poof*
it's always surprising how much hair comes off the quilt and the blanket when i launder bedding. Between me and three cats, i guess i oughtn't be so surprised, but there it is.
g'night stidmama
good night seain
fun times seain. you're a threefer also? :) i'm on my second "set" of three.
Yeah. 13, 7, and 1.5 currently .
the teenaged one is kind of fun.
my sets have been all pretty close in age, only a few months apart
by the teenaged one are you referring to the human years or the cat years?
i chose the eldest -- pick of the litter. the 1.5 year old one is in teenage growth state.
right that's why i didn't know if you were saying the 1.5 was fun or the 13, lol
the 7 year old was given to me -- i'm his third home. I found the 1.5 year old starving on the street at 4 weeks.
poor lil folks
my youngest is in my icon picture there
when she were a little wee thing
she's still fairly wee for a full grown 2 year old cat
fit in my palm, head between my fingers on the walk home.
my wee one here, Rilla, was spotted by a driver who saw something fall from the grasp of a bird of prey. stopped and went to see what it was. two tiny kittens. was on the road where the animal shelter is, so rushed them right in. they estimated they must have been born just that day or the day before. vet tech there took them home to bottle feed. the other one did not make it. :(
oh, wow
yeah so she is about 7.5 pounds now, little smaller than normal
l'd love to have a cat, but l Don't know what my 70+NLB DOGS WOULD DO
and she has a deep and abiding concern about covering food so that any leftover teeny bits will not attract predators
i tell her that she and her "brothers" are the only predators IN the house, but i can't convince her not to worry.
oh my, hurshy.
if you got a kitten, it would likely work out, ruby
she also loves to suckle on my hoodie string
we have to do it every morning
IT WOULD BE LOVELY; l miss having cats
Malachite, my youngest, suckles on afghans and blankets some still.
i'm not certain she was ever nursed, though i did give her formula until she rejected it.
The wet wool probably smells like a wet cat
yeah, i hear that any cat can keep up the suckle habit, regardless of their early life experiences
sensate
sorry, l'll try to go back to sleep
ty, i got three from that :)
ruby we will be here if you can't fall back asleep
thank you
i am upset about some words that i can't put the loch monster suffix on
like rad-
or wee-
me too.
and that it doesn't take rede4 cards
yeah
esp cause we have redear (not today but sometimes) which i'm like, is that red ear, or re dear, or what
exactly
red ear as it turns out. It's a sunfish: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redear_s\nunfish
trying to figure out the lower e, besides et4/4
LOL Someone i know just learned that i have a scholarly background in the Spanish Inquisition.
more than one S
oooooh seain that's cool
thanks
thanks. 7 years of research and study. I learnt a lot -- not least about means of torture.
yeah i don 't really want to know the means of torture but would probably be interested in other aspects
i learned enough about torture just with english kings, and more recent atrocities. i think i will decline the spanish inquisition ones.
Well, the Catholic church gave the go-ahead in late Sep 1492, then revoked its sponsorship due to it being more about political than religious things, in 1512. The Inquisition continued to 1868, when Isabella II ended it.
Spain has had two queens -- one started it, the other ended it.
three cheers for isabella II
so it was ferdinand and first isabella that started it?
Isabella I (la católica) was a religious zealot who thought religious unity would help unify Spain. She was ever so wrong.
you mean two queens regnant. they've had plenty of other queens, methinks :)
No, just Isabella. Fernando was ruling in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies -- Sicily and Naples at the time.
but it is that same isabella
the thing is, you can be a very specific zealot, or you can be a unifier, but it's a bit hard to be both
Isabella 1 started it. on her own, with help from the Church.
i'm just saying, so that i know, for reference, it is the isabella who we know of from christopher columbus fame, who was married to ferdinand, i'm asking you for confirmation that that's the same isabella
or is she one of the queens NON regnant
and this was another isabella altogether
?
i suppose i should have been putting question marks where they belonged earlier so you would know i was asking, lol
cause 1492 seems like that has to be the same isabella of CC fame
Under Spanish Law, ther have been only 2 queens -- Isabella I and Isabella II
but all the kings wives get called the queen, reina, right?
they don't even acknowledge the wives of kings legally, except for descendency.
REALLY
wow
that's pretty diff from england then
i feel like in english history books they still give the label queen to the spanish kings' wives tho
Reina is queen. Married to king is reina consorte
so yeah, different from England.
ok so at least that's got the word queen in it, that's not so shabby
like philip now in england, though. prince consort.
By his choice. He was entitled to have King as title, but refused it.
this would be the ultimate feminist victory: if england decided to CALL any future dude in philip's situation king consort, but not king, not have the power, while his wife is queen, regnant.
like there isn't something about the word king that is INHERENTLY "above" queen
which so far there always has been
yes. Fernando was Rey, Isabella Reina. At time of marriage, she was Reina of Castilla y Leon, he was Rey of Aragón, Catalunya, Sicilia, and Napoli. España was born of their marriage.
the were Co-regnant.
yes so they were ultimately very co-regnant, right?
haha crossed in cyberspace
rei consorte was the title of the husband of Isabella II
i am teaching 4th/5th grade
and i realized, one of the reasons they were having trouble remembering things in social studies is
oops. Isabella was also Queen of Asturias
if i tell you "the native americans" and "africans" or "african americans" and "americans" and "english" and "british" and "european" and "hispanic" and "middle eastern" - as an adult you know what those things all mean. you know what "black" people look like. at their age they don't know, so they can't picture much of anything that you're telling them in order to keep track of the different groups of people that you are talking about.
so i actually made a powerpoint slideshow with a bunch of pics of faces of all these various people groups and others to say, ok, so when people say "black people" or "african americans", this is what they mean
like they are in a diverse classroom but they don't know that these terms apply, they are beyond color blind
I grew up in an area 30% black and 40% hispanic.
so it's really awesome to me that they don't even know
good on you! They need know that
but it does make talking about history difficult
you don't realize how much visualization aids memory until you realize these kids have none
so one of the funny parts was
i was trying to show them how, hispanic people are a blend of spanish and native american, and like, people have this idea that people from spain look the same, and, i mean, some of them have the stereotypical dark hair and stuff like penelope cruz or antonio banderas, but plenty of them don't. so i showed the difference between "hispanic" and "spanish" including the current royal family of spain, with two little blond girls!
Huh. the Kings of Asturia were elected. So they elected Isabella on the death of her brother. On her death the first royal house of Spain was estapblish -- los Habpsburgos.
hispanic folks from Panama and Dominican Republic are mostly black.
yeah that varies too! gosh. so complex.
though Mestizos -- with indian blood -- is most common in Mesoamerica and Mexico.
LAST year, i was telling the students that i had thought we should say "native americans" because "indians" is just based on a stupid historical mistake of thinking they made it to india when they hadn't. but that i had then read an author who said that most native americans he has spoken to are comfortable with "indian" and use it to describe themselves
Yes, Indian is the preferred term by those peoples.
so when i said THAT, my student who was actually of indian-from-India descent said, "well they may not be insulted, but as an actual Indian, it bothers ME"
and i was like, huh, i forgot to think about that angle
Yeah, people from India find it confusing, so American Indian is okay.
