well what are the odds
ph 8
thank you, grannies both
yeah, we grannies are pretty good old gals, aren't we ???
lots of yesterday's words in today's grid
LOL Rose, we sure are
good value for money too
happy house today here
tell all smom dear.xox
we had a birthday party for number one daughter.. she is 61. umber two dauighter and she were the same age uintil today.
wow! how on earth did you manage that? you are some woman you know. it would have been almost like having twins.
i also learned today( after all these years,) that when siblings are less than a year apart, they are called irish twins.. anyone ever hear of that?
yes, i have
i was only 18 when i had the first one an when i had the second a figures ouir what cauised it.. the next kid took 10m years.. by then the fiorst was able to baby ist/
baby sit my younger two are 50 and 4\8
ok, i have to clarify here. are you saying you had two children before you found out that sex makes babies?
and i bet you can still remember being 60 and 61. that's the scary part. remembering youself at the same age as your child.
i was a very aive yong lady an had no sex education growing up.. those things were not discussed in my house.
FWs
ditto diz
wow. that was... let me see... late 50s?
WTG DIZ!!!!
you an bet that my children KNEW.. i told them in plain english and street language so there was no mistaking the facts and the ways of reproduction
conga-rats you two!
yup hursh.
yeah, you're about a decade younger than my grandmother, who gave birth to ten children and commented to my sister, who seemed to be stopping after two, "you seem to have something figured out that i didn't"
meant so say i was naive
i have to tell you peeps. my mum was in her 80;s wh4 i had to tell her that female have THREE holes down there. i rally don't know where she thought babies came out. and she had 6 of them.
i understand
well, if you aren't taught these things they're not really that obvious? it's not really naivete
when i was in my 30 s and asked my mother why she never tol me the facts of life, she said that she still could not talk about it.. she learned the hard way too
it's quite enraging, as a "modern" woman, to hear these stories of how it was for you
exactly df. and it's such a shame too... although being part of a biggish family was fun.
can you imagine my poor mother after asking the question... who did whatever? and all the kids ointing to all the other kids. she never did work out who dunnit..... loll
*pointing*
and to think today's generation might be encountering the same type of first-hand discovery soon, with parents being overprotective about sex ed and it being removed from many curricula (coupled with the parents who expect it to be taught and so never themselves teach it)
si7
really df? over here we are having a right royal battle trying to keep the age for that information in the te5. the government wants it taught to 5 year olds.
apparently in the netherlands they teach it from quite a young age, and it works well. low teen pregnancy rates, happy relationships...
obviously they adjust what and how they teach the info by age group
but at five, hurshy? even todays kids are so innocent at 5.
ontario 2019, https://preview.tinyurl.com/y6tq5k4n (\nglobe and mail link)
my girls ha an easier time of it and my grand daughters did even better. no 12 grand was 30 an married 6 years before her first.. no 2 grand is 28 and just announced last week. ( the australian traveler) number 3 was 230 when she had her first and son walter 11 says he will never make babies.
in the video i watched, it did not appear to make them any less innocent.
lolll at son 11... wait til 13....his point of view will change dramatically....
20 that is. walter's fiance passed away about 3 months before they were to be married.
the thing is, you tell things to a five year old, and it's just information to them. like, my (other) grandmother had a stroke, and my ne6 was very young at the time. and i was explaining what had happened to him. it wasn't scary, he wasn't upset, it was just facts. no concept of mortality, no concept of how awful it is to be incapacitated and stuff. just, ok, this is what happened.
oh smom that is so sad.
i guess so hurshy.
people think that the facts are "not innocent" but the reality is, i think, that it's only the facts *when combined with an adult understanding* that are intense.
especially unfortunate :(
after all, dogs are still "innocent" after they have puppies. sex isn't "dirty" to them :)
just natural
that was 18 years ago an he never wanted to be that vulnerable again an with 3 sisters and 3 neices and a nephew and 3 grand neices and a grand nephew.. he says that is enough kids in th family
too sad smom. i hope one day he will feel otherwise. or not... if that's the way he wants it.
where does he live?
smom, would you mind if i prayed for his healing?
he is here with me// he moved back in when my husband ha his heart attack and surgery and spet 11 years taking care of his dad.. ( gave up his job as a chef to do it). ow he is taking care of me.. i am encouraging his to go back in the b\usiness
what an amazing man smom. you must be very proud of him.
i wpuld be grateful rose. he -we have been having a rough timer these past years. hubby ied last feb..no 1 daughter is quite ill an he helps her also while taking are mewith my infirmities. also our 17 year old cat ( chuckie died last week and that was traumatic
i understand smom.
hubbie died in walters arm and so did chuckie.. walter is a good man an i hope that he will marry
his girl friend will like it too
ah.. there is a beautiful woman for him. and i truly understand his reluctance to give his heart totally ever again. let's have him healed first.... then everything will fall into place.
wow.. what a blabbermouth i have been tonight ... sorry
smom... it's okay... part of a babbler's job description. have willing ears to listen.
finaloy got potting soil so i will start seeds tomorrow.. kin of late but i think thy will do ok
nice. what are you planting?
thank you trose and hursh and all who have been patient with me ( feels like i have shed a few years this eveing)
all good smom
don't be sorry - it was so nice of you to share :)
what df said...ditto
tomatoes peppers cukes.. squashes.. eggplants ..cabbage..onions.. raishes an parsley, sage an other stuff. thank goodness i have lots andf lots of large pots
wow !! you rock smom
we planted out tomatoes for the first time in ages. i had forgotten just how yummy they are picked straight off the vine.
i have bees saving egg shells in their cartons an have lots of peat pots on ol cookie trays all reay for the bi "planting"
*giggle* well that will keep you off the streets for a while...
yup i like resh tomatoes too. oing beefsteak, italian plum and cherry
yep, the neighbors hubcaps are safe
hmmmm. haven't heard of the first two. apart from cherries, we planted gross lisse and heritage. heritage are an old type from before all the selective breeding. full of flesh.
we had to plant marigolds with the heritage as they have no 'resistance' to bugs.
sounds good... i do marigols too, an mint in pots to discourage th deer.
lolll... wonder if that works for possoms...we don't have a lot of wild deer.
marigolds and mint, *takes notes*
i have found out that if you spray around your plants with Scat or Deter the possoms and cockatoos will leave the plants alone.
i live in the burbs an we have huge herds of them an i hate them. can t afford to fence to keep therm out
the cockies drive my insane. they are so mischievous. i had one which ripped my daffodils off at ground level, th4 ripped the flower off as well. i could have smacked them.
we now have coyotes and foxes in the area also along with possoms and racs and rabbits
cockies ??
good grief! it sounds like you live in a zoo.
cockatoos, sulphur-crested.
the squirrels do the same here in canada... rip flowers off the stem, tear the stem apart, and sometimes even dig the roots up for good measure
cacatoos...
how sweet of them, df. loll
it feels like it.. walter feeds severakl neighborhood cats ad ther is i opossum who gets up on the porch an helps himself too an a few squirrels and yes,.. rabbits will eat catfood
roflolll smom...
i have a bb gun but that woul not be fair since walter feeds the damned varmints
my next door neighbour used to feed the wild cockatoos until she realised the wretches would fly over to our house, and sit on the roof, removing the cement between the roof tiles.
are cockatoos edible??
we found out that cockatoos don't like our magpies. so we bought wooden magpie whose wings spin in even the lightest of breezes. no more problems.
nice!!
not sure smom. i would have to ask one of our indigenous folk. as far as i know, cockatoo is not on any menu i have seen. kangaroo and emu, not cockatoo.
and no.... i have not tried their meat.
i simply cannot bring myself to eat a native animal. weird, probably. but that's me.... weird and weirder... loll
i ha a friend from the south who used to tell me about eating squirrels, possoms and rabbits wish i couil get in touch. i our burb you cannot kill them, nor the deer. however i think some folks aroun here are getting fedup with that.. tings might get interesting this year
*giggle* keep me in the loop smom. it should be mighty interesting.
i grew up in the north an we had venison quite often, but i would not trust it from here....... these deer are not wild.. to many people feed them and i woul not be surprised if they were diseased
good morning all
and thanx to the babblers for allowing smom and i to have free hand with the chat. you all are lovely people. smom?? i should go and do something constructive around here. xoxox
hi sprite
hiya smom
oops !! nope... not going any where.... lolll {{{{ sprite}}}
*hugs rose* Hey honey, good to see you. How was your day? Did you enjoy your YOU time?
me too like read one of th new library shipment
have a great night
enjoy your reading, smom
lol... egyption crown babblet alert! :D
if i left now sprite would have my guts for garters... loll
too true. Unless you really have to go... then you are forgiven ;)
hiiiii sprite!
hiya dfm! How are you doing today?
still enjoying my alone time honey. haven't se4 himself for over 10 hours. i did walk around to the nail technician and had my nails done. i rested 4 times going and 4 times coming back.
existent, a bit distracted, not much else though, how are you?
are your nails gorgeous now again?
glad you exist, dmf ;) Hope the distractions are not too bad. I am doing well. Every day seems to bring more healing. At least that is how it feels.
yup, deep purple except for ring fingers which are blue and pink glitter which gives a sort of purplish look to them.
oh wow, sounds lovely
yeah, i like it. df, distracted honey? do tell.
healingeder is a good state to be in sprite :)
I couldn't agree morederder!
having to deal with things that have piled up since taking the second trip to europe in february... like taxes, and paying off all the card purchases, and finding errors and having to figure out who to call and how to resolve everything!
hey sprite... that's something we can do. et our nails done together. find a technician for us.
ugh df.... that sound ghastly.
okay, will try, honey. I need one that works with polygel. But I already have an idea.
it's a small price to pay for a mostly carefree month wandering europe though :)
ask sprite... we both HATE paperwork of any sort.
ugh dfm, those are things that would reduce me to tears. Taxes scare me.
yay df. it is a wonderful piece of our planet isn't it?
yes, all the culture and history, and everything so close together, also functional public transportation... compared to north america
added it to our to-do list, rose
we could also do a day of driving through the country, rose, if you and Don would like that. We could set out a nice touristic route and enjoy the netherlands from the car, in comfort.
too true df. i loved using the public transportation. and everyone was so well mannered. stood up immediately to give me a seat. and also steadied me if the bus etc took off to quickly. i had no fears.
sprite that sounds wonderful.
okay, adding it to our list of options :)
and df... every time you turned around there was a new thing to see. for us it was like walking through our history books. just amazing.
Rob also had a good idea. To visit one of our musea on old dutch crafts. They are re-enacted by people. It is fun.
sounds good too.
uh oh... motorcycle in drive. my day is over.
he will have lots to say.
added it.
i had better let him let it all out. xoxox
roflolollllll enjoy honey
luvsya sprite. hugs to you both and df too.
*hugs* to the both of you, rose. Have a grand evening with the Donster.
Rob says hi too
it is so much fun to plan Rose's visit, dmf! Am making a list (checking it twice) and we will pick and choose what to do when while they are here.
phantom: hectic
hope you two have fun together! when will she be arriving?
First of May, I believe. Wait, I can see exactly when
yes, May 1st at 13.15 hours (1.15 pm)
that'll be after you expect to be out of your cast, right?
absolutely. April 2 the cast comes off and I will see the surgeon. He will decide whether it has healed enough to stay out of the cast. I have faith. Once I am allowed to exercise without cast, I am on my way to full recovery. Though doc said it will take 6 months... but miracles do happen and I have faith they are happening right now.
pe
sorry about that
absolutely have faith in you too, sounds like you'll be ready to have a great time with rose when she arrives!
that, we will have, even if I am still in a wheelchair. But I will do my darnestest (nifty use of babble word!) to be mobile by then. Hopefully able to drive, at least with automatic transmission, but if possible with our own car.
I believe it should be darnedest, now that I re-read it
both amsterdam and rotterdam were beautiful and very unique, lots to see even within the city - kind of want to make the netherlands a stop for europe trip 3 (whenever that will happen) to see more too
oh please do, dfm, and if you do, please let me know... we could meet up for a coffee or lunch or dinner, if you like!
phantom: serpent
where do you suggest to visit next trip? was considering either Den Haag (more city?) and/or visiting Utrecht or Arnhem... will likely pair it with going to SPIEL again in Essen in october, some year
Arnhem is interesting, especially if you are interested in WWII. Den Haag is beautiful. Very different would be a visit to Giethoorn (our Little Venice). Or where I will take Rose and Don too, the Open Air Museum in Enkhuizen (Openluchtmuseum) which shows some of our history re-enacted by real people.
will keep those in mind and consider them too! sounds very interesting
great :)
my email is at the bottom of my profile. If you want, you can drop me a line with any questions and I will try to help.
Top row done in next to no time at all!
Hello everyone.
wtg zooz! *hugs zooz* How are you and the parents holding up?
Hello, Sprite, we are okay at the moment. How is your leg doing?
healing more all the time, I believe :) THanks for asking. Glad to hear you are okay atm.
Good to hear!
How is,Tim,getting on in, Scotland?
he LOVES it. Is doing great, both socially and in his studies.
Excellent! Although he must be fed up with the constant brexit talk shambles every time he turns the TV on lol
he does not have a tv and I doubt he is actively seeking it out on his laptop. It is a depressing item for sure.
Oh good for him.
fireflies. Dear zooz and dfm, a big *hug* to you. To all, a blessed day and a peaceful night. And for rose an extra *hug* to find if she should come back tonight.
Congratulations! Have a day, Sprite!
*great*
Okay first run through and I have 23 words left to find. Also found 3 of the 8s! Will come back later to see if I can find any more. Happy babbling everyone!
Phantom heretic
It was a chore getting through all those S words
Good Morning Molly. 've been up for two hours and am ready for a napl
l Wonder why l'm sleepy all the time
Age, medication, the battle with pain, could be a lot of things.
I know I tend to get vitamin B12 deficient and that makes me really tired until I get my levels up.
ph8, please?
Marc, sounds like the word that describes sound (eg.. ph8 alphabet), spelled with a different vowel.
Wow, you could fall down a rabbit hole trying to describe ph8, ph8ally.
thanks
I had a hard time finding the ps8, then looked at the definition and found out why

pl for the ps 7, impossible to clue
ps7 - ps plus the part of the body that contains heart and lungs, but replace the s with another consonant. The last three letters are mixed up number after nine.
that was great Haz
Not the easiest to clue, you're right. Hope it works for wvteach.
ty haz.
still looking
You're welcome, mixi.
okay, so I'm hung up on that CE8, any help. please and ty?
wv, if you did the grid yesterday, the ps7 and 8 appeared.
ce8 - a unit of currency for four, follow by most of the fiddling emperor (think Rome) and make it plural.
ty again
You're welcome.
I'm not catching that CE 8 Hazel..
nm I got it!! thank you so much!
Okay, it's a plural for ce7/42. The first four are ce4/5, the money, follow that by the opposite of far, but take out a vowel.
Great, glad you got it.
haz
TO.
your icon?
How are you? I should have acknowledged your e-mail.
Sorry, actually avatar, i guess.
whatever. :)
Oh, my icon is my grandmother.
what a lovely picture.
I think the photo was taken in the 1920s when she was a young woman. I never knew her, she died in 1938.
I was thrilled to have it passed on by a cousin, I had never known what she looked like.
on which side?
On my father's side.
It was a sad story, she died leaving 3 boys, 14, 12 and 6. My dad was the 12 year old.
ah. and have you received any emails lately?
haz- finally got it - thnx - did yesterdays grid but don't remember anything from it
Glad you got it, wv.
pardon me, i am chatting and doing something else. not doing justice to either. so i'll just chat.
Yes, I got one from you the other day, TO. Haven't checked my emails today.
that cartoon combo would drive many people mad.
Haz I have a similar picture of my mother. She died when my twin and I were 7. I didnt know any pictures of her existed but my elder sister had a couple of her as a young girl
Deeha, it was so strange to see her at last. I knew what my grandfather looked like, but somehow just had never seen her. There are a few that have been passed on now, only one existing with the whole family together.
i have a papaer photo and do no know who they are. it's crumbling. no one really to pass it to.
other hald not interested in father's side of the family.
TO, it may be possible to get it restored by an expert. At least then you might be able to frame it for your own pleasure.
has a lovely oval frame
when we were little there was a largecsepia coloured pictures of my grandparents over the mantelpiece. I didnt see it again for years. I was in my 50's before I saw it again. I was SO shocked. I thought that fat old lady is ME!!!!!
i am not sure if it would be repaired or copied.
The only thing about older photographs is that they all look so solemn.
oh dee!
It's amazing to see family resemblances jump out at you.
i look in the mirror and see my mother every day.
My cousin (10 years older than me) is rapidly turning into my great aunt. I haven't told her.
and all of my life i thought i looked like my father's side
good move, haz.
And my uncle, as he aged, became like the previous generation. It's a bit spooky sometimes.
No, some thoughts are best left unspoken...
we just buried my uncle tuesday. mother's side. only two and one aunt left. all in their 80s.
I'm sorry to hear that, TO. It's nice to have an older generation, mine are rapidly diminishing.
my bro's MIL said your children come out looking not so much like someone as like someone familiar, whom you should know. i found that an interesting take.
so we say he has his mother's eyes, etc as we struggle to recall
thank you , haz.
Yes, you know they have a familiar look - literally the family appearance.
lol i am sure m SIL thinks they all look like her side. she is something!
the death of one diminishes everyone, for we are all part of the main...
Is she a bit trying to deal with?
she's a different generation, being 16 years younger.
and very different. teaches elementary school, and explains everything in minute detail. i am not a detail person.
I've remained close to my cousins on my mother's side more than on the paternal side. We meet up to ensure that we keep in touch, it's too easy to drift apart.
our faomily was perhaps too big to survive intact. it broke into little sect by parents.
The cousin who passed on the photo is on my father's side but an afternoon spent in her company is ... monologue delivered in excruciating, slow detail.
no feud, no rifts, just drifts
Yes, drifting without intending to, no malice, just no longer part of your world.
there were photos taken at the event, with those in attendance. i am awaiting them.
I have lost a wiondeful brother and an amazing funny sister both of which I miss terribly. I hve two other siblings unfortunately one is in US and the other in S Africe. The brother in US is now 92!!
It'll be a good reminder of the occasion. One of the disadvantages of taking digital photos is that you don't print them out. So lots of photos taken, not so many survive in printed form for future generations.
Is there any prospect of visiting him, Deeha? Having scattered family must be difficult.
dee, my uncle was recounting his trip to adelaide to meet my grandfather's sisters clan. a whole bunch of them there. i was a bit jealous.
wow dee, hless him!
the others are in france
I've often thought how difficult it must have been in the days when people emigrated far away, not knowing if they'd ever see loved ones again.
saw him last year but finance prohibits visits now
Is he in reasonable health?
he is s fit as a butchers dog!! Still dows his 10 mile walks in the rockies!!
good for him! and i love that expression!
How amazing! It's great he's kept himself fit.
Okay, time for me to do other things. Enjoy this nice grid. Bye for now!
bye haz
and bye, dee. i am going to list and finish, too much to do today.
bye To

crown of a sorts
seech
My monkeys are having no luck with the ps's
an Egyptian crown
Got it. Had to go to Google to find that. Thanks.
I:) I wasn't sure how to clue it
yvw
I don't know that there is a better clue.
And your clue helped me see the rods that the king carries.
LOL
And now fireworks.
Thanks for the clues.
wow! vg!
might you help clue a 7 letter word that starts w/pe?
most perky
you rock!! ty!
any more clues before I go?
hold on a min, I
down to 11
I'm needing 2 w/the bottom R
that will start w/RE
don't have the tile ct
There are only 15 re words coming from that tile.
1 is a 6 ltr and the other is a 7
might it be the re6,21 which is something a surgeon might do, but it sounds like it would mean to be a cult again.
that was a popular tile
I have that one
and I have the one to turn from sin
maybe you should change your ways and seek forgiveness
:)
Or build a bird home again
yes that would be the 6
can you please clue the 7 letter one?
the 7 is a plural of one that I have already clued
I have to pl to do what the surg might do
and the pl to turning from sin
am thinking it might be the last 6 letter one that I'm actually missing
those two are the only r 7's
take the exam again
then it is a 6
I have that one
and the bug
and to feel bad about
there are re4 x 5, re5 x3, re6 x5 and re7 x2
and an ri4 and an ri5
Good luck. I need to go get some dinner.
I"m missing a 5
I have monthly house
and I have re--- button
thank you!
I really dislike words that are only plural :-(
like nerts? I keep thinking nert should work, but nooooo...
yay, done! laters, all
Nerts is a word that means nonsense. There is no singular. Anyone who watched "I Love Lucy" remembers the episode where "Nerts To Mertz" was used.
I guess if the word was not plural it would be Nert = No sense.
the only word I don't have is the ne6 and I'm not having much luck. :(
well, don't ask your niece, hokie
omg, can't believe I didn't see that, thanks!
yw (-:
and congrats on your fw !
.. and I missed seeing my last word, sp6 as in a figure of .. Happy Babbling, poof
