I am CRYING laughing right now.....this morning we are required to have the students fill out a "personal risk assessment" thing - its an anonymous survey the state sends us, so they can collect data about young people, I guess. One of the sweetest students in my class raised his hand, and in absolute earnestness asked "Mrs. C, this question asked "how many physical fights have I been involved in this year?" Do I INCLUDE hockey games, or should I only count street fight type things?" I high-fived him, told him to only count non-sport related altercations. A true New Englander, that one!

well, I started quilting a few years ago but have gotten into making my own clothes in the last year. I have at least 3 unfinished quilts and 9 or 10 finished tops that my grandmother made and never quilted. I talked my mom into giving me those to finish and give to all my cousins so I need to get back to quilting!

my first one I finished on a basic Brother machine with a tiny harp space and it is a mess in places. I now have a straight stitch machine with a big harp so that helps. My favorite quilt I have made was just wavy lines with a walking foot, so I may do that more.

My grandmother hand quilted all hers. She pieced some by hand but most of the tops I have she has machine pieced.

and I hand appliqué with wool - hand stitching for that - but I have someone else do the quilting
always count Trif, I did that for a time, until my neck/shoulders would no longer allow me to hand stitch as much
it still comes from the heart!
I started out hand appiqueing most of my quilts :)
I find that amazing - I am woeful at applique
I tried fmq - even took lessons. What I learned is that I think in straight lines and geometric patterns only. So it's better to leave the quilting to someone who is good at it.
that's part of the reason that I don't do the machine quilting... my hubby loves to do free motion!

i dont like the look of machine quilting, and I LOVE to hide little messages and symbols meaningful to the person I am making the quilt for into the work.

i love the slow pace and quiet of hand quilting. i love thinking about the person it's for, quilting it slowly. There is too much "rush" in the world. I relish doing something slowly.
I get that from hand appliqué - it takes me out of space and time in many ways.

Good morning. What a great conversation this morning! I have several quilts that I cherish but don't use because they're to special to me; or they're the wrong size for our beds. I have 2 antique quilts probably made in the 1920's or 30's (judging from the fabrics) but they are for single beds.

We're planning to move to a senior living place this year, so it all depends on where we move. If there would be a big enough north- facing wall; then yes; I'd consider framing them & hanging them. I would love to display them because they really are beautiful.
