hello friends

8:11 am

Hello, trif. I hope your day goes well.

8:13 am

The weather here is soul-crushing. I quote Forrest Gump: "One day it started to rain. It didn't stop for four months." It's May 14, it's 38 degrees out, I'm wearing tights and an undershirt under my professional dress, and the heat is still on at my house. ON MAY 14TH. Everyone is pissy and over it.

8:14 am

wicked pissy

8:14 am

and not in the usual lovely boston way, bichon. It's just so gross. People have mold growing on them

8:14 am

I'm so sorry. But it can't last much longer.

8:15 am

We've never had the heat on in mid May before this

8:16 am

Absolutely NEVER bichon. I usually shut it off April 1st. Seriously. I am sure my oil company is delighted, but I am not. We can't even just "oh well wear a sweater" and power through. 38 degrees is untenable.

8:19 am

anyway, sorry to be a wet blanket. I love babble, and will be pleasant and cheery for the rest of the day I promise

8:20 am

and here i am, in alberta. had the air on last night and will have the heat on this weekend. ahhhh, springtime!

8:20 am

I'm shivering here with you Trif

8:28 am

This, of course, means a direct plunge from chilly Spring into Sweltering Summer. Like going from first to fourth with no clutch.

8:33 am

exactly molly. Though this weekend promises two sunny days in the 60s.

8:33 am

With all this dampness, we will be inundated with mozzies, so there is THAT to look forward to. Sigh.

8:41 am

could I have stats for the 9?

9:32 am

9:33 am

80 actors would drive one batty

9:34 am

as long as they are not children or animals it shouldn't be as bad :)

9:34 am

secondo stayed in a gorgeous house last summer in New Rochelle, NY. The owners have lived there for decades, and, loving the old-time look of the place, never fixed it up much. At the advice of a friend, they listed it as an available property for film shoots - within a MONTH they were booked out - at the tidy sum of $1000 a DAY!

9:36 am

wow!

9:36 am

Personally, I wish "hangry" and "adorbs" would disappear from use forever.

9:36 am

I know right? I was so happy for the family, very nice people

9:36 am

I like hangry. Applies to my beloved in spades

9:37 am

I hate adorbs remind me of the valley girls

9:37 am

language must evolve, or else we would be in a real state

9:38 am

actually trif It applies to a lot of people when they are hungry lol

9:38 am

its a good word.

9:38 am

i don't mind it

9:39 am

i wish somehow the phrase "it is what it is" would disappear for good

9:39 am

I am such a massive word ne4, it's not even funny. I love reading the etiology of foreign words....there are some truly fantastic german words that I would love to come into use here. Schaudenfraude is fabulous, and another german word for when you eat when you are sad. The literal translation is "grief bacon" - LOVE THAT

9:41 am

well people would be grieving if something ever happened to bacon or htat it wasn't good on everything anymore

9:41 am

exaclty!

9:41 am

exactly! sorry, fat fingers today

9:42 am

like i always say i can spell i just cant type correctly

9:42 am

EL 7 clue pls?

9:44 am

funny, I had a student like that once - she was an american child whose parents sent her to a local french school, as they thought it was "really cool" - which it was, but they should have researched it farther. They assumed it was half french, half english. Nope. All French, all the time. By 8th grade they realized their daughter could SPEAK English perfectly, as that is what they did at home, but she could not READ English. Not one word

9:44 am

oops

9:44 am

twofer definition has been updated now, it means what it does now. i don't remember what the definition was before

9:44 am

MLF, Growth Media Productions

9:44 am

does enable accept twofer?

9:45 am

trif i don't think so

9:45 am

yes: twofer does not exist in the puzzle

9:45 am

cool dc

9:45 am

sigh. perhaps if it was spelled the welsh way, with no vowels, it would.

9:47 am

i know someone who is the co owner of Ashwood Projects in Fl

9:49 am

dc is that located in wv or va?

9:49 am

I wonder if the studios pulling out of georgia will have any effect on the new legislations?

9:50 am

why would that be trif?

9:50 am

the idea is to hit them in the pocketbook

11:41 am

11:42 am

thanks, I'm skimming through the chat right now. looks like they are mostly here already.

11:43 am

Not finding that au 8, even with the clue 😢

11:45 am

car + spirit that lives in a bottle with a sometimes vowel ending

11:46 am

I think it’s the car that’s baffling me.

11:47 am

German car with 4 letters?

11:47 am

the car is not a brand of car it is a general word

11:47 am

Got it! Thanks

11:47 am

thanks Molly

11:48 am

Exhausted from touring around.

12:34 pm

Do you not use the au word for car in UK/Australia?

12:35 pm

Sure but I’d missed the word completely

12:35 pm

We’ve been touring ireland -still are and I’m pretty tired from the pace we’ve been going at.

12:37 pm

i hope you enjoy the trip anyway, Lizlin

12:37 pm

It’s amazing. So beautiful.

12:38 pm

should au4 acquaintance...

12:39 pm

😊 Scottish, I think.

12:40 pm

indeed! Scots never had the vowel shift, so English diverged, if still retaining a high mutual intelligibility

12:40 pm

Ve no idea how to pronounce the Irish words I’ve seen.

12:41 pm

my name is Irish: Séain, pronounced as 'shane'.

12:42 pm

Thanks. I’d always thought it was pronounced Sean - so I’ve learned something.

12:43 pm

Séain means 'Sean's".

12:43 pm

Got to get ready to go out for dinner. Enjoy your day and thanks all for help with the clues.

12:43 pm

mother's father's middle name put into Irish and made possessive.

12:43 pm

Hi all! Is anyone experiencing difficulties with More Words? I have entered "da--" twice now and it tells me that there are no words that match.

12:44 pm

i am now, wasn't minutes ago. I tried several searches, and they all failed.

12:45 pm

Thanks, dc. Glad to know that it is not just me. I am sure they are having issues and hopefully they will resolve it soon.

12:47 pm

it seems back up. I think they rolled out an update. I refreshed, and voilà.

12:48 pm

The look has changed some.

12:48 pm

Good to know. I will try again.

12:48 pm

try atozwordfinder

12:50 pm

Interesting. While More Words does look a little different, it still does not work for me. I will try restarting my computer and see if that helps.

12:51 pm

i'm using Chrome on a MacBook Pro, FWIW

12:51 pm

Chris, I have never used AtoZ word finder.

12:51 pm

dc, I am using a HP lap top.

12:51 pm

I use it all the time - works for me

1:13 pm

good morning all

1:14 pm

resources tab at the top of this page works much the same as a2z

1:16 pm

Resources tab? Are you referring to Lickety Expert?

1:16 pm

kyes

1:17 pm

FYI to the non-Expert users, there is no Resources tab here

1:20 pm

sorry - been using expert ever since lickety first introduced it, so tend to forget that not everyone has downloaded it. Used BJ's list before that --- didn't seem to need it as much back then. I guess there weren't so many foreign and manufactured words then

1:21 pm

I just suggested atoz because some people were saying they were having problems with the program they usually use.

1:26 pm

laud

1:27 pm

OMG pardon my mistake. Just arrived and did not make sure where the cursor was. . . anyway, hi everyone

1:28 pm

1:28 pm

1:28 pm

Hello :-)

1:28 pm

1:28 pm

hello zooz

1:29 pm

Hello, Bugs

1:30 pm

we've had a couple in the interior as well

1:30 pm

I'm not looking forward to another summer where we can't go outside for the smoke

1:31 pm

me too. last year was unusual and I hope it stays unusual

1:31 pm

I guess that's what we have to put up with until certain politicians pull their heads out of the sand

1:32 pm

yes. I am not impressed with our federal governments record on helping citizens do more about climate change. Right now it feels like they are punishing us.

1:35 pm

2 words from the new year's song today

1:39 pm

time for me to list -- hosting coffee and dessert for 8 tonight, so need to get cracking. Cake has cooled and ready to fill

1:40 pm

enjoy your evening. it sounds like fun

1:43 pm

something we do once a month with a group of our friends -- the host picks a restaurant to go to for dinner then has everyone over for coffee and dessert (maybe another drink or liquer :D) afterwards

1:51 pm

au 8 please? -- assuming it begins with the car

last part sounds like the spirit who comes out of the bottle ;-)

and I don't mean whiskey

1:59 pm

oh darn - and I was thinking limoncello or something

:-)

2:01 pm

am I am I right in thinking of some form of the drink made from juniper berries?

I have never tried that, but do like Bacarci Limon

ha ha....NO, I mean the little "spirit" who comes out of the bottle.....e.g. "Barbara Eden"

2:03 pm

limoncello is much sweeter - more like amaretto only lemon flavoured. Making limoncello cake for tonight

2:03 pm

ah - ty diane

Sounds delicious !

You were on a "one track mind", with the type of spirit !! LOL

2:06 pm

yes - one of our group doesn't like chocolate, so.... the next best thing :)

I just looked up Limoncello Cake from Olga's Flavour Factory.....Ohhhhh, but it sounds delicious. Does your recipe have a cream cheese frosting? I have some lemon lovers in my family!

2:10 pm

no - a limoncello glaze. I just use the Baccardi Rum Cake recipe you can find on line and substitude limoncello for the rum. Then I slice the cake in half and fill it with lemon curd and top it with whipped cream and a slice of mango when serving.

2:12 pm

*also substitute lemon pudding for the vanilla

Okay, this recipe went one step further....after the glaze, it is frosted with a cream cheese frosting. THIS is going to be my next special birthday cake for someone. I love to bake and I do make the Bacarcdi rum cake quite often. And speaking of baking, I have bread about to come out of the oven. Enjoy your evening !

2:16 pm

bye diane
